- Tarzan. Thinking about giving this movie a watch?
In this movie review, I discuss what Tarzan has to offer to movie fans today and whether they should stay far away, or give it a shot.
Tarzan, released in 1999 was Walt Disney's final film in the 90's Disney renaissance. Starring Tony Goldwyn, Minnie Driver, Glenn Close and Phil Collins with the amazing soundtrack, Tarzan tells the story of a man raised by gorillas who must decide where he really belongs when he discovers he is a human.

Tarzan is my number 1 favorite Disney movie of all time! And nothing’s gonna change my mind about that. I loved it as a child and I still love it today.
That's awesome Isaiah!
It is my favorite movie too
It's my number one too!
This Movie, Mulan, and Hercules were my 3 favorite movies growing up. Hell i didn't even realize how much i loved the soundtrack until i was around 10 years old.
The soundtrack is killer!
Undeniably, the most astonishing, beautifully animated disney film by a mile
Zahir Sookoor In terms of the visuals, it’s up there for sure!
An underrated Disney classic for sure! Great review!
Screening Diary Absolutely! Thanks Jasmine 😊
dont know bout underrated lmao
Tarzan is a bit like Treasure Planet in the sense that both characters feel like outcasts but I think that's why I was so drawn to such movies. As a foster child I never really fit in or was a true member of a family so it resonated with my childhood years at 9 to see this movie. It made you think that even though you're a misfit now oneday you'll become your own person and become strong
I haven't seen Treasure Planet yet!
@@BrandoCritic Do it, it is so underrated! The visuals are also incredible
Theory is tarzan is ancestor of jim hawkins
amazing review dude and i loved this movie as a kid still do actually this was a movie that people need to watch more
Amauri Poyntz Haha Thanks man! The soundtrack is my jam!
@@BrandoCritic yeah they have some good music on the soundtrack Phil Collins can't do no wrong
Great video! So glad you took the time to review it! Personally it’s one of my ALL TIME favourites! Tarzan’s arc is underscored by his lack of acceptance from his “father” Kerchek, and I think the movie does a phenomenal job at developing that relationship - especially that final moment when Kerchak puts his hand on Tarzan’s shoulder and says “My son” ...gets me every time!
Totally agree! I love that moment and totally understand why people love this movie. Hell, it was one of my favs as a kid and will always have a spot for Tarzan in my collection!
You’re not wrong. The film feels like it wants to reach up for something dynamic, but bogs itself with easy answers, trying to fit the (at the time) expectedmodel for an animated film from the company. It’s still passionately animated, with the use of CG environments married to the 2D designs in key scenes. It feels like a good, not quite great picture.
James Polk Thanks James! Exactly! Tarzan is a good movie! But it doesn’t reach up to that AMAZING Disney magic
Amazing review. Loved the movie when i was younger and i still do
OOGA BOOGA Awesome man! This movie will always “Be In My Heart” if you will
@@BrandoCritic Keep up the good work Man. Absolute legend. Nice joke :)
@@mrmiyagi3524 Thanks buddy
Same here
Dudes yes! Some of Phil Collins best work!
My favourite artist!
One of my favorite Disney movies.
Great review Brandon and take care and stay safe 👍🏻.
Thanks Walther! Appreciate all the support!
@@BrandoCritic Right on.
I also love the soundtrack. Strangers Like Me is my favorite Disney song
Awesome one! My fav too
Probably the best review of TARZAN I have seen yet !!! Couldn't agree more mate! I love the soundtrack, but *it pains me as well to say it but* IT JUST DOESN'T CONNECT. Still a strong 7 for me but could of been better !
Thanks buddy! Glad you can agree!
I used to play heck out of Disney's Tarzan on my old pc back in mid 2000s cuz we haven't had much to play in our house. That was my first experience of the movie from the in game cutscenes. I remember seeing the cutscene with "Son of man" and loving it with the bottom of my heart. This is impossible to convey in words. Then, near to 2010 I got the movie finally but was shocked that there was one. Surreal feeling to experience the characters how they intended to be
Hahaha I remember that game!
Ever thought of reviewing Disney's The Little Mermaid, the movie that kickstarted the Disney Renesance? After all, it turned 30 last year and we're not getting any new movies in theaters at this point.
I'm planning on doing many more Disney Videos in the Future!
I Will Never Forget The Death Scene With Clayton. Ps. Long Live Phil Collins & Genesis❤
Edit. This Film Got Love From Square Enix & Kingdom Hearts 🔥
Yes they did!
Good morning! you play very nice, by the way. Brandon you gave an excellent analysis! Tarzan is a lovely and funny movie. As for the soundtrack, I think the songs are played this way because Tarzan never uses the pronouns "I" or "me", he always speaks in the third person, "Tarzan likes Jane". So, I guess the songs are in line with his character. My favourite Disney soundtrack is "A Whole New World" from Aladdin (1992).
Heidi A Whole New World is a banger! Thanks for tuning in once again!
anything about Tarzan from the edgar rice burroughs books, tv shows, movies and disney. my fave tarzan actor is Joe Lara but i’ve seen them all. my fave song from the disney version is Two Worlds because on one hand he’s tarzan raised by the apes and on the other he’s john clayton, 3rd earl of greystoke so he’s caught between these two worlds. i’m 51 years old so i’ve seen a lot of tarzan movies etc . i wish there were men like tarzan out there in the world. he’s my hero, my book husband and my screen husband ( i wish)
Thanks for the insight!
After rewatching it yesterday, it solidified that I always thought Tarzan was just a solid film. Yes, the soundtrack is great and I'm thankful Disney went with someone different when it comes to the music but at times he sorta outshines the movie which is a big issue. The movie does what it does well but the things you mentioned needed to be pushed more. I think it's a solid way to close out the Renaissance era and I will add it probably has the best blend of 2D and 3D animation in the era.
Yes William! I have always and will always enjoy Tarzan!
Back when animated movies had soul and not be some squeaky clean modern animated tale
I'm sure people said that about this film too back in the day though...
@@BrandoCritic tru
i love Tarzan and Jane as a couple
That's great!
Happy Birthday to John Clayton III aka Tarzan born on Thursday November 22,1888 his Birth Card is Jack of Hearts 💕 He inspired Marvel Lord Kevin Plunder aka KA-ZAR! I saw the movie 🍿🎥 on his Birthday as a tribute to him! Merry Christmas ⛄🎄 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!

Thank you Mark!
Nice review! Did you have the PC game for it too?
You know what, Thomas, I remember playing some form of a Tarzan PC game when I was a kid at a friend's house!
@@BrandoCritic nice! Yeah I had the same one when I was a kid, it was great!
Also while in books Clayton is his cousin, in this adaptation he is not. Just as tablature isn't tarzans adoptive father.
So let's be clear, disneyverse isn't fully following books
Yeah... if the Disney movies followed all their books to a tee, then they would be extremely dark
@@BrandoCritic and extremely predictable. And honestly this movie already has enough body count with dead leopard, Clayton corpse, plus royal couple being mauled to death.
Ehhh... it's not too bad
@@BrandoCritic no not too bad we just have alternative here with this tarzam
I love the bond Between Tarzan and his ape mother.
Gorilla*
I absolutely love Tarzan, even to this day! I give it a 10 :D
That's awesome man!
Did you watch the old black and white Tarzan movies? Movies like Tarzan and his mate and Tarzan The Fearless?
No I did not Aran. Should I?
@@BrandoCritic You might enjoy it.
Are you gonna review hunchback any time soon
Andy sMITH More of Disney videos are definitely on the way
Hey hey hey no no frozen 2 didn't destroy this possibility.
It just retconned the theory, they survived dark sea and stranded in sea and on different ship end up in Africa months later
Hmmmm bit of a stretch
@@BrandoCritic well its complex but logical. Abd if anyone cam pull that off its disney and frozen crew
My favorite disney movie imo
That's awesome!
The villain in Mulan is named Shan Yu
Yep. Got it!
The only thing I remember is the song by Genesis.
*Phil Collins buddy!
@@BrandoCritic He's part of it. He sings and plays drum.
i agree that the soundtrack is amazing and the film for some parts quite forgettable.
But overall i am positive about the film, i like it 3/5
and my favourite disney soundtrack is easily the lion king because i grew with the lion king.
Well, now you gotta tell me your favourite Lion King song!
@@BrandoCritic Hakuna Matata hands down!
that was my favorite song of all time untill i was like 12. still is among my 10 favorite songs of all time.
Florrie Morrie Interesting choice! Love me some Be Prepared and Can You Feel The Love Tonight
BrandoCritic The movie is full of amazing songs. I love every single one of them!
@@BrandoCritic hey what is your take on Disney renaissance films
Nothing really stands out in Tarzan's childhood it's all played as a Land Before Time ripoff where he Terk & Tantor often get into trouble
Thanks for the insight
Nice 3Ds XL
Thanks bud!
@@BrandoCritic No problem man, also Tarzan is my favorite Disney movie, but the points against it you made are super strong. Friggin nostalgia goggles. Lol
Other Tarzan movies. Tarzan The Fearless 1933. Tarzan and his mate. Tarzan the ape man.
Thanks Aran!
@@BrandoCritic are you interested in them?
Maybe one day
"And then we have you know like Turk and...Tabor?".
Me: Tantor.
Either way, forgettable characters
@@BrandoCriticit's a shame, really. Some of the funny moments I remember was that they had to wear clothes and get viciously chased by Kerchak, Tantor yelling at Terk to get a hold of herself and forces her to accompany him on a rescue mission, and him pulling her aside, telling her that sometimes she embarrasses him.
Clayton should have been tarzans father
THAT would be a twist!
Well agnar is not a bad twist either
i wish u commented on then ending, i think it was a bit childish that he and jane stay in the jungle, he shouldv reunited with his own kind and went with her to london, like mowglie did.
I didn't have a problem with the ending. She wanted to stay in the jungle... so she did
They went to London in other projects, so staying in jungle is better for a change
One thing I wish they did with Clayton in this film was make him related to Tarzan. Because Tarzan’s English name, and the name of his father, is John Clayton. This could have set up a fascinating dynamic where Tarzan is initially torn between his loving adopted family (which Clayton is hunting) and this biological family member with ties to his origins. Clayton might be shocked to find his nephew or distant cousin alive, but it gets dark when he pretends to be his friend but intends to kill Tarzan and claim the family estate for himself.
That would have made the stakes much higher!
@@BrandoCritic I’m glad you agree! The only reasons I could think of for why that story line wasn’t followed up on were for pacing issues and because they did the evil uncle thing with Scar. But it still could have worked!
Well that would be interesting but that was already done before with both lion king and original tarzan films, so maybe changing his family connection from Clayton to arendelles is a lot better fit for this movie to me as a change
@@Orto-jj2di Yeah, they probably realized that making Tarzan and Clayton related was treading on similar ground to The Lion King, especially with another talking animals film set in Africa. Also, I really don't get why the Tarzan and Frozen connection theory has persisted this long since Tarzan's parents don't really look like the King and Queen of Arendelle.
@@oscarstainton they do actually since both men are like twins. It's also possible for hair to change colors if exposed to a different environment for a while
