Ralph Schut teach you how to play Man of constant sorrow on gitar. He is one of the gitar teachers at the Risør Bluegrassfestival workshops 2013 www.risorbluegrassfestival.no/
While not explained perfectly, this is actually the best tutorial I have seen/heard for this song (and I have watched a ton of these to try to figure out this song). Awesome job!
Tuned down by “one note” means one whole step, the low E string is tuned to D. I just watched a video of Tyminski and could see him tuning down the top string while chatting to the crowd before this song. Dan’s chord shapes look exactly like this nice guy’s. Well done.
This is an awesome version sounds so full even when picking notes that takes a lot of practice to do as I am finding out :-) Thanks for posting Brother
Thanks very much for the video. It was vert helpful. One thing I caught when I was watching Dan Tyminski play this. When he plays the "A" chord he bars the D, G and B string and plays the A open. He uses his thumb on the low E, second fret to get the low E note. It seems to give the A chord a lot more bottom.
Kristian, this is really fabulous! Please please please, post another video of a part two that shows some of your thoughts as to the improvised solos between verses. I believe there are three different solos with a separate ending. I can see where this video will be a tremendous asset to anyone learning to play "Man of Constant Sorrow". Thanks very. Uh for taking the time to post this video, I can't wait to get started. You play the same phrasing but in different locations. It's great!
Thanks, very nice version and efficient tutorial ! You're right, the best lessons are the clearest and the shortest ! I like the sound of your guitar : crisp and resonnant. It fits well with the bluegrass sound. Which strings do you use ?
this is great kristian. You have this dead on. I was playing it in a cheat way but I could never sing with it because I was doing it wrong. this was very helpful
I still have no idea what the intro is. I can't tell what bars his fingers are on during the pull off stage but this is by far the best sounding way for an intermediate to do this song. could you please tab it or use your words?
that was awesome is there any way that you can put that on tablature for guitar I can't really see what your friends are doing and I would love to play that
That was great ....i subscribed straight away , really good singing I could allmost smell the smoke from a moonshine still ,and see the sun rise through the mist of a an early morning in the Smokies ...thanks
Ignore any negative comments you see. If someone is trying to learn, ANYTHING is helpful. I don't understand why some a****** has to be so critical, when your lesson is so helpful and generous. Keep on rockin'.
Thanks for putting this up. Would have loved for you to put in some close ups of your left hand's finger work, but figured it out anyway. Great playing and thanks again for the lesson!
Of all the players covering this tune you are unquestionably the best. Most guys I've seen take all kinds of short cuts when it comes to the picking, You have really done the song justice. Thank you very much for the tutorial. Yours truly PICKY PICKER.I got er down pat
Thanks! I just played it as I remembered it as one of the students at the workshop asked for it. I therefore do not claim to play it exactly as Dan Tyminski did it. Glad it is useful to some of you!!!
Clayton cook the tuning is dadgad same tuning as the song Kashmir by Zeppelin odd but super cool tuning sir. so follow the double drop d with the b string tuned to a sounds just like the movie
I have just no talent but this vidio has made me determent to persavere with this song(Ilove) and try to learn it to the best of my lack of ability.Ralf comes accross as a lovely guy,and also I love the sound of his guitar. Thanks very much Ralf, may the road rise before you.owney
