Mahogany dread sounds great for this.
Awesome! Yeah Randy's doing a great job over there. The guitar is in transit to my house right now. Can't wait to play it! I'll post a video soon with a demo after his repair job. Pretty amazing what Randy was able to do with it.

Dick Burnett has one hell of a life story. Lived through WW1, WW2 & Vietnam. I think that losing his eyesight to a mugger and turning to music saved his life. With his vision He would have been in his early 30s when WW1 started and likely would have been drafted. Survival rate was not very high for that war. He died in 1977 at 93. That’s wild. This song was published in 1913 but without him diving deeper into his career, this song would have been forgotten about. Makes me think of how many unheard of classics we’re missing out on.
music history is fucking awesome
Best Man of Sorrow lesson on UA-cam !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed
Besides the original 😉
You’re a fucking asshole cause Tim plays the shit way better way fucking better jackass
Very professionally done... Slow enough for the beginner. Tab on screen were extremely helpful. Playing slow to screen tabs was incredible. This is the best tutorial on the web.
Thanks Kevin!
At 0:59 I was like. "Ahh. Why did you stop?" lol
This is why I LOVE Drop D tuning!
Said a Tool fan :)
Drop double D is even more d-elicious 😋
@@gmichaelhall crazy. I came to comment the same thing. Really just found double drop d. It's so fun and sounds awesome
Damn son I believe you did sell your soul to the devil!
"MERT & ALOYSIUS will just have to sign X's... Only 4 of us can write..."
I read this with Sam Elliott voice
I saw him at the crossroads......it's true
I wasn't using it.
I wasn't using it at the time.
I look forward to learning this amazing song, I have loved this song ever since the first time I heard it on "O' Brother Where Art Thou" it will go great with my singing
Awesome, yeah one of my favorite songs of all time right here.
I must say that your tutorial for tab recognition is the must superior quality video I have ever seen on you tube . The way you allow a bar to travel across the staza bar as you play each note formation is the most awesome presentation for beginners and even those like myself wanting to get a better understand of how to read Tab . Thanks for your attention of quality . Thinking of getting lessons from a youtube teacher . You are top of my consideration.
Thanks William! Really appreciate the kind words! I spend a lot of time on the lessons and it's always nice getting positive fedback. If you watch this video on my site, you can also click the "-" button at the lower center of the player to slow it down a bit more. Here's a link if you want to give it a try countryguitaronline.com/man-of-constant-sorrow/ Have a good one - Devin
You make it look so easy but this is harder than the flamenco strum pattern I learned that took 3 hours to get under my fingers. But just listen to that sound, it'll be glorious when it's done 😊 🇮🇪
This musician sounds fantastic! Enjoy!
Great lesson! 🎸🇺🇸
This is what I've been trying to find the correct way to play this, Thank you.

VERY, VERY WELL DONE, sir!! As a guitar player myself, I ESPECIALLY like that "lead" bit you do right before the end of your demonstration.
Thanks Dennis! Appreciate it
Would you please check out a song & video I have here on UA-cam? It's called "Small Wonders," Dennis Cassley, written & performed by me, and I would VALUE YOUR OPINION & COMMENTS VERY MUCH!!!! (With my next paycheck, I'm going to invest in your lesson for the solo in this "Man of..." song...)

Thanks Bro, God bless you !
juat found your channel and it is great! i am a fairly experienced player so a lot of the stuff you teach i already know but some of the licks you teach have definitely improved my improvisation skills! i also went back and saw videos from the beginning ofmyour channel and your channel has progressed amazingly! keep up the great work!
Hey Matthew, Thanks a lot for the comment! Yeah, the channel and my website have both come a long way...started out shooting some pretty low quality videos on the old webcam and the original website was pretty poor. I can hardly bear to watch some of the older videos haha..trying to improve on the technology side each lesson. Glad you're able to put some of the advanced licks and improvising tips to use! Thanks for the note - Devin

Thank you, Devin Shawn, for the good video. I learned it, and eager to learn the last part - the part with fingers. Could you make it, please?
Hi Sviatoslav - That solo is taught over in the members area of CGO...here's the link countryguitaronline.com/man-of-constant-sorrow/ Hope to see you over there!
Devin Shawn, finally, after 3 weeks of almost every day lessons, I almost learned to play it -- I hope in another week or so I'll play it in a right rithm. Thank you!!
Nice work! This is a tough song for sure. Glad the lesson video helped out! - Devin
What kind of acoustic and mic is he using I wonder? Such a nice, full, warm sound.
I'm having trouble playing the muted string parts clean when I play it fast. It seems unnatural to me, not to press down, but not to let go entirely either when i'm going fast
Excellent.!! Well done...
Awesome well done
New subscriber here, cracking job thank you so much. Hi from the UK.
bravo!!!
Freaking awesome!!!
thanks!
Sweet! Thanks!
Is it normally supposed to be really hard to pick up? I got it slow. But when I go a bit faster I come off the rails. This seems pretty advanced even for who’s played for 18 years
I don’t even play guitar I just like his voice
I know that this song is dated to the 30’s and the Great Depression but when I hear it I picture the outlaw Jesse James
Good attempt.
following. but what about after the introduction :)
Hot damn! Git after it!
Muy bueno el tutorial, muchas gracias por compartirlo. Like y suscribe.
