BEFORE TRYING TO PUT ON WEIGHT:
Do you actually need to put on weight? The easiest way to do this is to check your body mass index (BMI). Please use the BMI calculator below to check your weight status.

EXAMPLES OF HEALTHY HIGH CALORIE FOODS:
Here is a quick run through of high calorie food ideas! Please speak to your healthcare professional and ideally a Dietician for a full diet plan. The NHS also have a really good page on weight gain tips and foods,

➽FAT & PROTEIN combos: Nuts, nut butter, Oily fish- healthy fat like salmon, Eggs, Cheese
Full fat foods are also great. But remember to keep portion sizes limited!
➽Here are some carbohydrate ideas: Granola, oats, Rice, Potatoes, Seeded bread, pasta.
➽Fats only: Plant-based spreads, Avocados, coconut oil and olive oil.
➽Note on treats: they’re okay to have but they tend to be high in fat and sugar with little nutritional benefit, so keep them occasional. This includes pizza, cake, biscuits etc.
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE:
There may be some underlying issues that could stop you from putting on weight. If any of these SIX cases sound like you, then please see your healthcare professional for advice.
Number ONE: Food Anxiety is when you feel stressed about making food choices. This can prevent you from eating food. Please see your Healthcare Professional if this applies to you.
Number TWO: Appetite suppression due to medicines is not uncommon. If you have started a new medicine and are worried that you don’t feel as hungry as you normally do then please let your healthcare professional know.
Number THREE: If your teeth feel sensitive or you have mouth sores or ulcers it can be difficult or painful to eat. You might need to see your dentist for treatment. Don’t suffer in silence!
Number FOUR: Pain or reflux after eating could lead to weight loss as you lose the desire to eat. If you have any difficulty swallowing. Ask your healthcare professional for more advice if this sounds like you!
Number FIVE: Darker than normal stools, change in normal colour of stools or blood in your stools when you go to the toilet could be a sign there is a problem. Please get checked by a healthcare professional.
Number SIX: Chronic diseases can lead to unexplained weight loss or being unable to gain weight. Please get checked ASAP if you are worried about any unexplained or sudden weight loss!

Who else has it hard to put on weight?
Gaining/Losing weight is always hard. Luckily, it's a lot easier to stay the same weight once you've reached your goal, so once you can get over that speed bump, it's smooth sailing.
True I'm 5 foot 4 inches and under 100 pounds I'm so much smaller by weight and height for a male all of my friends are so much taller than me

I'm not a doctor but I'll give my 2cents for anyone else that's battling with gaining weight. Because I went through it. Having weighed 52kg most of my life I managed to get up to 94kg which is where I stand today. There's a few things I learnt.... You are not eating alot, only convincing urself that u are. It doesn't help to eat alot on one day and then have next to nothing the following day. Your body responds to consistency only. Initially what work for me to prove to myself that I was capable of weight gain was to replace any fizzy drinks I drank in a day with full fat milk. Weigh urself at the exact same time of day every single day. If u gain even 100g.... Take it as a win and keep going. And lastly for a skinny guy if ur tummy is growling u have messed up. Never allow it to get to that point. The only time it should growl is in the morning when it wakes u up. Other than that u should be feeling full to the brim every minute of every day. Consistency is key.

The idea of feeling full all the time is making me nauseous, do mean like just feeling contentment or so full that eating a little more would make your stomach hurt?
I’m so sick of people telling me “you look thin, thinner, did you lose weight, you look tired” i’m not even underweight but I need to gain weight that I know. I stuggle so much cause no matter now much I try to exercise or eat, I don’t seem to gain weight. I probably don’t eat enough and I need to follow a real plan and that’s my aim for next year.
Hardest part for me was knowing what to eat man. VB Fitness makes some good videos on these topics, you should check him out!

Same I'm not underweight but people still call me skinny because I have small frame. I want to gain weight on my shoulder areas especially and little bit on my thighs area. It's hard to gain weight even 1kg.

You don’t need to gain weight if you’re healthy and that’s where your body likes to be. I’ve had people call me anorexic my whole life, but I was healthy! I lost weight and now I need to gain it back to be healthy again not because of anyone else. You’re not there to make people feel comfortable or to be pleasing for them to look at. You are there to be healthy and to live a good life.

PS If it's hard to cook a proper meal whilst hangry, eat a tiny snack while cooking. Just to take the edge off.
Some advice from someone who has been skinny their whole life. Take it slow. This HAS to be a lifestyle change and not a "oh im going to eat a ton and instantly gain weight" no matter how motivated you are, you will eventually burn out. Slowly increase your caloric intake in a way that isn't miserable. I used to eat until I threw up everyday, I gained 20 pounds but eventually couldn't do it anymore and lost all the weight.

I know I can gain weight if I really tried, my weight fluctuates a lot, depending on my mindset. A lot of times when I am stressed about work and life, I tend to forget to take care of myself. I don't eat as much, which makes me lose weight quite quickly and by not eating much, I don't have the energy to work out. But I know if I work out, I will get more hungry and working out + food, helps me gain some weight. I was 98lbs, while I was on the verge of depression and got some help, started doing yoga and other workouts for about 3 months and managed to get my weight up to 110lbs. Unfortunately, I got stressed again and lost focus, and I am struggling again and trying so hard not to get below 100lbs again. I am 5'2 and I think I am 105lbs last I checked...

The heaviest weight I've had was 43kg(i'm 164cm) which was even a struggle. It was last year. Now I'm back on 39kg.

I am underweight and a 40 y.o dad with a high metabolism, but with with all this lockdown ( no.6 here in Melbourne, Australia) I have plenty of time.

I’m sure most people feel me here but I’m a 17 yo boy and I was stuck at like 120 pounds for a good while. Looked a bit too skinny. But I decided to start working out to try gaining muscle weight. It’s actually been working. I gained 5 pounds in around 2 months and I started putting on muscle pretty fast.

@@seanduffy6226 It’s going very well still. Found out that in the first months that weight boost is mostly water but I’m up around 7 pounds now(127) most of which is muscle. I try getting my body weight in grams of protein and at least 2,000 calories a day. Most of the protein is from food.

I have been on every diet known to mankind on how to gain weight and bulk up but nothing seems to work I am very knowledgeable about fitness and know my way around the gym The amount of food I eat daily is rather frightening to others who witness it, here is an example of a days food intake, I have full glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning, then I cook about 3 cups of steel cut oat and I mix in one mashed banana ,ground flax seeds 1/4 cup coconut oil, chia seed and wheat germ topped to ground cinnamon About twenty minutes after that I will have three poached eggs with broccoli, spinach, sauerkraut , four slices of toast with lots of homemade almond butter topped with honey. then I will have my coffee with a homemade muffin and about 4 crackers and with homemade peanut butter and homemade strawberry jam then i go my daily 45 walk. On my return I will have tuna salad with celery, green and red peppers with homemade dressing and topped with crushed nuts, then I will have parfait made in my food processor with strawberry, banna mango and blue berries, then will have dark black tea with half bar of dark chocolate. In mid afternoon will a salmon sandwich with side sauerkraut mixed with red beets. For supper will have roast chcken with carrots, sweet potato and cauliflower and through the rest of the day will have protein shake and many many snacks,
I am 64, 5'11' and 130 lbs. If i do not continue the large daily food intake I can loose weight rapidly so keeping weight on is a challenge But that being said I feel extremely healthy and have no illnesses .
you sound really healthy and you should have no problem gaining weight and muscle with the amount of healthy food you eat... are you sure you dont have an underlying health condition? sorry if that sounds rude
Sport really helps me gain (muscle) weight. I gained 3 kg during 2020 from lots of home workouts. Started to get more lazy and lost most again.. Getting back on track. Sitting at 50 kg as 163 cm female, goal is a BMI of 20 with around 54 kg. It's a struggle!

During quarentine, I used to only eat green food like lettuce all day so I lost kind of half of my weight, after that I became under weight so I had to start eating more than I wanted but it really did nothing I only gained one kilogram so I hope this helps.

I struggled with putting on weight my entire life. My normal weight is 86lbs and I'm 5'4" 31 years old . I got up to 114lbs and maintained it (for 4 years)after delivery of my son and was super happy with that weight. Well I lost 30lbs within 3 months and found out my a1c was at 22.1 my sugars were in the 700 range so I found out I'm diabetic. (Diabetes is under control now)Also found out my thyroid is under active , have high blood pressure, could have lymphoma were doing test for it now and struggle bad with constipation (like all of y'all want to know this lol) with knowing all my health issues what do you suggest? My doctor tells me to eat lots of protein and that was her only suggestion. I have been doing that for awhile now and it's not doing anything. Also tried 3 meals a day with snacks and that's not doing anything. Somebody please help. It's really making me depressed. I'm now a 82lb skeleton and I'm sick of others telling me to eat a burger!! I guess halloween Is coming up so I won't need to buy a skeleton for decorations. :)
Please don't make the same mistake I did and eat burgers to gain weight. The least you want is high cholesterol. Now I have to watch what I eat. Being skinny is stressing me even more. I think it is causing me to lose even more weight
Hi , what was the results with the lymphoma? How are things going now? I gave birth 2020 and was at 55kg I have lost down to 48kg. Also started struggling a lot with heartburn had a Nissen Fundoplication which added to my weight loss. I am hoping as time goes things get better now that the heartburn should be under control

@@Sk3r0 it’s ok to ask 😃 many people ask. Well, I don’t really have a reason and I didn’t choose to be picky. When even tad bit too much salt is there I hate the dish and eat only half of it, or if there’s a tad bit too much of anything I’ll not eat. I don’t know why but the more I try, the more I feel like puking. I am starting to eat better because I’m to get constipation cuz of it. And started gaining weight but I am still under wait for my age, I’m 11 btw

I never realized how fast my metabolism was, i put on a lot of weight through my childhood, once i got into fitness i lost abt 35 pounds this summer, now im very much struggling to bulk up again

Now I am:
16 years old, 6'0 (183cm), 59.1kg (130lbs) at 9.8 percent body fat
Still skinny but ive made a lot of progress

I just started to make a really good protein shake that’s pretty high in calories figured I’d drop the ingredients if anyone wants to try it, u will definitely like it
- 1 chocolate boost protein shake (I buy the 12 packs
- 1 cup of milk (I like whole milk for the calories)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 banana
- 1 scoop of whey protein (I use the triple chocolate which also contains creatine)
- 1 tablespoon of peanut-butter
875 calories total and it’s not too much to drink 👍👍lemme know if anyone tries it

@@cr6g660 not if you lift heavy weights, cut out most cardio, and EAT. Lots of protein. I was always 5’7 and 116lbs my whole life no matter what I ate. I started lifting weights and got up to 145lbs! It took two years but the first ten pounds came really quick, like a couple months.

Started working out and I gained 10kg from July to December. Most of it was muscle as i can see my abs and i have muscle definition but I'm still skinny.
I can't seem to gain any more weight. I started at 55kg 6'0 (underweight) and I'm now 65kg and 6'1 (healthy weight but im still slim). My goal is 75kg by Summer.

Also seen alot of teen commenting here about their BMI. If you are less than 18 years old we use BMI for Age as a measure for your nutrition status. Reason being you are constantly growing and going thru changes hence we cannot use the same BMI as that of an adult. The BMI for age shows you how much you are supposed to weigh at you current age and height and also at what weight you will be considered underweight
Gaining weight is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my entire life. 3 months of increased intake, extra meals, high calorie and only gained 4lbs! Its so disheartening I have literally cried myself to sleep for the past month. I'm becoming obsessed. I hate myself 😔

Never thought I’d be watching this video. Two years ago, I had a BMI of around 30. Then, I started “eating sensibly”, lost 50 pounds (~23kg) and felt awesome. Today, my BMI fell below 24 and I’m freaking out because I wanted to stay borderline 25 BMI.
I've a bmi of 18.7-19 health's fine try not to worry.

I lost 106 pounds and now I am almost too thin. If I lose 4 more pounds I will be considered underweight. Ive struggled to lose weight forever and now suddenly my body does not want to gain! Id like to gain 10 pounds.
@@a.l.a7901 This was tricky for me too. I stopped intermittent fasting and evening walks, and tried to eat more calories. I have high cholesterol too so I have to walk. I gained a few pounds since then and now I’m back to my comfort zone.
Mine is 15.7 and im 20 next week... Rediculous... im going to try my very best although I already eat a lot, to the point I fear vomiting and start feeling sick... Maybe I just have to try eating more times a day, and not at one moment but still...

Hey there, so for me, before i could only put on like 2 pounds in a YEAR. Then we found out that i was gluten free (alergic to glutem) and i needed to stop eating gluten since the alergy slowed my weight gain. I stopped a year ago and in one year i gained 10 pounds but i still look very skinny which i hate and my bmi is still in the underweighted section. But i admit i am 14 and i sleep not more than 7 hours a day so that might be the problem, but i just cant sleep. If any of you feel like your stomach hurts often, and that you are constipated with alternation of dhirea, you might want to take the blood test to see if you are gluten free cuz that were my symtoms.
Gaining weight is easy guys. I gained 3kg in just a month. I tried to eat twice the amount of what i normally eat, and it works.
So far I've put on 20 lbs in 3 months the healthy way. Ty so much!

Bruh I really needed this i haven’t been eating enough and I reached 90lbs which even for my height is below average :( I think it’s a mental thing (maybe depression or something since I lost interest in a lot of things and I have mood swings often)

I used to weigh 135lb now I’m 100lb I tried literally everything and still not gaining anything . I spent so much money on super mass but still not seeing any difference 😢. I also have (anxiety, depression) that could be the reason why 🤷♀️ i don’t even know anymore .
