Such an underrated band. If this is the kind of music you like, you will love "far far away" by slade. Great reaction. Keep up the fantastic work. Greeting from Germany.
It might please you to learn that in their native UK, they were anything but underrated, and were in fact one of the bestselling acts of the whole 1970s - which is quite a feat when you consider they were up against the likes of peak Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, T Rex, Led Zep, Elton John, ABBA, Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees ... and the likes of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, the Rolling Stones and Tom Jones were still releasing hit records and close to their peak. Slade's record sales and chart feats in the 70s stack up well against any of them, and flat out beat many of them :) Their power and influence has, admittedly, been overlooked somewhat in recent times. But their achievements are impressive for those who take the trouble to look (or can remember) Great reaction btw. I was 9 when this song was released and I loved it as a kid but am a bit too young to remember early Slade first hand (even though I'm 48, lol!) but they were still very much loved in the late 70s and early 80s when I became aware of music. It's great to see them get some well deserved love again!
To be fair, they were a lot bigger in Britian than they were in the States. They did tour in the States, but were usually the opening act for bands like Alice Cooper and ZZ Top in the 70s.
Slade was my 'Rock' Band/Group through my youth (Early 70's through to the 80's). I had all their albums on cassette, yes... Cassette. You will have to play their famous Christmas song... at Christmas - LOL!
Wow casette. I actually had a few casettes too! When I was in junior high, casette and freestyle was still a thing! Then shortly after, came the Walkman with CD. Then in highschool came Mp3, then Mp4 and then the iPod was invented. After that, the iPhone. And yeah well, you know the rest LOL. But good times! I love having casettes. Such a retro feel. And I am very thorough to explain to the kids what it is and how it works heheh. Yeah I gotta do SLADE at christmas if its a famous song indeed! =) Please, remind me though hahah
It did chart in the top 40 in the US Billboard charts, but in Worcester, Ma where I lived it was # 1 on our local hard rock radio station WAAF for weeks !!!
you have been slayed, simply the best live band of the 70,s early 80,s with out doubt, if you love my oh my then lisen to radio wall of sound, or universe simply brillant
Everyone talks about Slade... but don't forget T. Rex!! the first band that was compared to the Beatles after their separation! They made the studio album with the most number 1 weeks in the UK in the 70s! Electric Warrior.
I was there at the start , back in 71, but here I am all these decades later, and my feelings for this bands great music has not dimmed. I guess my current buzz, is youtube and these great guys who keep them in the current news, great stuff young man, Where the hell have you been ?.😅
Well..Hello there! Another Glam Rock Classic! So much great 80s music out there to be heard! As you say, David, there are so many treasures to be unearthed out there! Keep them coming! Oh..the band are touring right now. See ya soon bello!😉
Glad to see another Slade reaction by you; one thing I find with your own video reactions is that they often fit the spirit of Slade, who can be and are often very playful and humorous in their personal style. You are right it is a shame Slade did not become as big a name as they should have been in the US; of course, they were a big name in the UK, and many bands have been influenced by them (KISS, Quiet Riot which actually became famous in part for two Slade covers they did, etc). They have a great range in style, and their fans probably like them all (as I did), they probably also have a favorite style (which is why, though this is a good song, it is not on my favorite list for them, but I can see and appreciate why others would put it high on their list).
Yes, this song is very beautiful, it takes me back to my youth just after graduating high school in '82. A most powerful tune from a band that began as more of a glam rock band way back when. I can't add any superlatives to what you've said, Mr. Toe...
Being a big fan of them l only first got to see them live in 1980, when they went back out on tour their for a grand hurrah tour on the University and college and smaller venues. It was a night I’ll never forget.
I didn't discover this song until about 2010 mate, the first time you listen to it you are blown away and then you just want to listen to it again and again!
I think there's an explanation as to why you never heard it before: Slade was largely a 70s band that briefly struck gold in the early 80s with this song and Run Runaway. But every decade has a tendency to move away from the heroes of the previous decade. So their 80s moment was very brief and quickly forgotten. Lots of exciting new things happened in the 80s: Just the year after this you had Prince and Purple Rain, for example.
Just finished watching the emotional livestream tonight so thought a bit of Slade would rock me back down to earth...I was 24 when this song came out and had almost forgotten about it...not one that springs to mind from their back catalogue but what a great uplifting anthem it is...well done for reviving this one Patreon and the magic wheel...and you,of course👍💖
Wow, pleased this has been reacted to, should have been their 7th No.1 had it not been for a novelty act….No.2 which was their highest chart position for them since 1974 Such a huge back catalogue for you to explore, thanks
Another great reaction to another classic Slade anthem. I have their greatest hits cd and it's crammed full of great songs like this. Cuz I Luv You and Far Far Away are also worth a listen. Brilliant! 👍😊👍
power ballads, as they came to be called, were all the rage in the 1980s, with all kinds of otherwise "hard" rock bands doing ballads like this, and this was Slade's attempt to get on that bandwagon
Åh vilka " flashbacks " man får 😃 men roligt hade man ! Slade snurrade på skivtallriken för jämnan inne i brorsans rum , hans favoritband 🤘 🥰...Men David vad hände med den stackars vovven ? Kan säkert fixa rabatt på Veterinärhögskolan i Uppsala åt dig 🤣
slade started in nineteen sixty six. they released tons of singles . i too have never heard this song since it only hit number thirty seven on the u.s. charts. should have been a bigger hit here.
So many English and European bands seem to totally pass America by, one of my favourite Slade's is Mysterious Mr Jones (not necessarily their best but I like it), there is probably a lifetimes worth of European music that never had any impact in the US, one of my favourite stories is about Duran Duran's management trying to work out why they were selling some places really well and getting nothing, sometimes on the other side of the road (MTV on one side of the road and not the other), favourite Duran Duran song - Wild Boys (lots of other fun and different songs)
What about "In like a shot from my gun" or their rendition of "Born to be wild" ? They are not exactly ballads but it can replace a giant can of RedBull if you are depressed.
Loved your reaction, check out the Greatest hits album by Slade, not one bad tune, plus all their other albums and singles and videos and and and etc.............
You think this is good? Listen to Universe by Slade. My Oh My got me hooked on them back in 84. They have a very wide subset of music from 1969 till 1991. The only reason they never got superstardom was due to poor promotion and lack of radio play in the US.
Slade er nydelig. Jeg er 93modell og denne gikk på repeat. Slade, ABBA og Smokie var blant platene jeg smuglånte av pappa 🤭 Jeg vil også anbefale Far, far away. Klem fra nabolandet i vest 🥰
This is such a beautiful ballad with very deep lyrics. The drums and the guitar are a perfect duet. I LOVE IT
Yeah I loved it a lot!

absolut....beste 3 minuten band 70er...meine absoluten favoriten
They were the best selling singles artist of the 70’s
Yeah, that's SLADE, baby!
I've discovered them a year ago and my reaction is the same: how could I have never heard of them? HOW?
To be fair, they were a lot bigger in Britian than they were in the States. They did tour in the States, but were usually the opening act for bands like Alice Cooper and ZZ Top in the 70s.

I was lucky enough to them live, have had loads of hits. Thank you for whoever requested it ❤️
Wow that is so cool! I would have wanted that toO!
your reaction is that of a minor who just found gold................ And you are right : THIS IS.
Slade is just unmatched.
Thank you.
Indeed they are gold! :D Thanks!
Just listen to more of their older songs from the 70's 😁
Without a doubt !
This song was a smash hit in Brazil (where I live) and UK, but failed miserably on US Billboard charts. A masterpiece.
I bet it was! Yeah its great!
It did chart in the top 40 in the US Billboard charts, but in Worcester, Ma where I lived it was # 1 on our local hard rock radio station WAAF for weeks !!!
Hit #37 on Billboard in 1984 after Run Run Away hut #20

Slade were the BLOKES band of the 70's in England. Fantastic band ....listen to their xmas classic and others. Just amazing.
Everyone talks about Slade... but don't forget T. Rex!! the first band that was compared to the Beatles after their separation! They made the studio album with the most number 1 weeks in the UK in the 70s! Electric Warrior.
I've never heard 80s Slade before (only the 70s version), so this was a genuine new reaction for me too. Love your reaction here!
So glad you enjoyed it Michael! =)
Take me back to my teenage years 😀❤
I'm very glad you enjoyed it David 🙏❤ And I was the one who wanted this one 😍

Almost made it to the Christmas No1, 10 years after their iconic Merry Christmas Everybody, very underrated brilliant live
One of my favorites of all time. The guitar solo on the extended version is even better

Because Its the first time I hear them?
Well..Hello there! Another Glam Rock Classic! So much great 80s music out there to be heard!
As you say, David, there are so many treasures to be unearthed out there!

Epic!
The USA missed out on Slade, because it's run for the benefit of the music business, not the music fans
Classic Slade
The most underrated rock band ever and noddy holder has the best rock voice ever
I didn't discover this song until about 2010 mate, the first time you listen to it you are blown away and then you just want to listen to it again and again!

Not only a glam rock band, they were also pre-punk .

Slade's final act was with the song 'Universe' in 1991. Very powerful song as well....
Love that and should have been huge but was end for them 😢
