Slade were managed by Chas Chandler, who was originally the Bass player of the band 'The Animals'. They have one of the biggest Christmas songs in the UK - Merry Christmas Everybody. Most of their earlier songs and names were deliberately misspelled as a gimmick but not all. They came from Wolverhampton, near Birmingham UK, playing around the same time as Black Sabbath and ELO who were from the same area. They had a huge run of hits in the 1970's before losing popularity. One of those songs, 'Cum on feel the Noize' was covered by USA band Quiet Riot. They made a comeback in the early 1980's after the song 'We'll bring the house down' entered the charts. This song is one of their comeback songs.

I used to live near where they were living and based in Willenhall and I was even a paperboy for Dave Hill. Slade were such an iconic band in the 70's and 80's. They will always be a part of my life and I'm 61 now.
    Try listening to
    EveryDay
    My Friend Stan
Merry Christmas Everybody, (which is re-released evert Christmas)
And do many more amazing songs. Noddy's voice is so amazing, ing and nobody has come near it ever since!

Slade was the Band of the 70's, 3 Records going straight to No1, I grew up with Slade and at 66 I still listen to them daily, have about 90% of their Albums and Singles, listen to Dapple Rose, and In For A Penny, great Oldies. Slade's Music will never Die/

Slade were huge in the 70’s and the biggest selling singles artist of the period. Popularity waned in late 70’s but after Ozzy Osbourne dropped out of the Reading festival Slade filled the spot and was the highlight of the festival…they had a resurgence and this one reached No.2…should have been their 7th No.1 but a novelty act beat them, Run Run Away followed which was recognised in billboard chart.
Their last hit was Radio Wall of Sound then called it a day in early 90’s but their Christmas hit still charts yearly

I also discovered this band recently, although I listened to their songs over the years without knowing who they were. I would have liked to see a concert by them, very good vibes and good integration with the public, it happens with few bands. They were informal and They had a lot of fun on stage. Time has passed and those fun guys on stage last over time, even though they are no longer young. Beautiful era of music. Pioneers of GlamRock

Bigger than Led Zeppelin? Don't get me wrong, I lived through the era and I know how huge Slade were, but I really remember that it was only during the first half of the decade, I feel like after that they fell apart, I could swear that all the Led Zeppelin albums in the 70s, from the From 1970 to 1979, were number 1.
