I don't know where to begin to tell you how much fun it was to be a teenager in the UK early 1970s. I enjoyed serious rock/soul but loved the glamorous stuff as well.

Have you heard of ELO (the Electric Light Orchestra)? Roy Wood, the singer of Wizzard, formed ELO with Jeff Lynne, & they're still friends to this day. Wood doesn't just play the French horn, he's a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, cello, sax, oboe, piano/keyboards, bagpipes & percussion. Later on in the same year as See My baby Jive, 1973, Wizzard had their biggest hit, I Wish it Could Be Xmas Every Day. It's been re-released several times & is always played at Xmas. I'd say it's 1 of the top 5 Xmas songs in the UK.

This had hit number one in the UK & this is the performance on Top of the Pops. I remember buying this I was 10 or 11 year's old. The music was such fun growing up back then.

Fun Fact : ABBA were struggling to get hit songs at the beginning of the 70s. Then they heard this in 1973 and it inspired them to do 'Waterloo' in 1974. The rest is history as they say 😊

I was born in '81, but I grew up on the music of my parents from the 60s and 70s. ^_^
Wizzard was a frequent sound in our household. My dad was a huge glam-kid back in the day!

Excellent pick. The genius of Roy Wood. Incredible producer, arranger, songwriter. Listen to how he stacks the tracks multiple times.
Reminiscent of Phil Spectors "Wall of Sound" projects. "See My Baby Jive" was a hit in the UK, however it stiffed in the states. There is a longer version , you may want to listen to. Roy Wood from The Move, early ELO, Wizzard and beyond...such a talent.
    Thanks for sharing.

Roy Wood was with 60's band The Move, then helped form The Electric Light Orchestra, before leaving to form Wizzard. He is an exceptionally talented guy. He can play everything from guitar, drums etc all the way through to bagpipes. On his mid 70's solo albums, Boulders and Mustard, he plays everything and experimented with tape speeds to make his voice sound like female voices. You need to hear the full 5 minute plus version of this. This is the edited version used for TV and as other people have said, Wizzard's Christmas song "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday".

How people can get things so wrong, Roy Wood didn't help to form The Electric Light Orchestra, the band was Roy Wood's brainchild in 1968 when he was in The Move, he told his mate Jeff Lynne about his idea, Lynne was in rival Brummie band The Idle Race. Jeff said he'd like to help Roy Wood with his ELO project, Lynne left The Idle Race to join The Move so that both Roy and Jeff would be on the same record label. The Move were on EMI's Regal Zonophone label and The Idle Race were on the United Artists Liberty label. ELO could go ahead when both of them were on Regal Zonophone.

I think you’ll find Roy Wood played all the instruments on the Wizzard tracks as well - the difference being that the other band members were allowed to play along. Roy couldn’t read or write music notation so it was easier and quicker for him to demonstrate what he wanted rather than trying to explain it.

Roy Wood is a musical genius. He was, as you can hear here the originator of rock orchestra. He formed a band called Electric Light Orcerstra (ELO). Unfortunately, he was more music than business and was ousted from the band he formed by the dick who became ELOS lead singer. He was brilliant. Still is. When ELO was inducted into the RNR hall of fame it was on the condition Roy was named as the founder.

Ousted…!! Have never heard Roy Wood or Jeff Lynne, the presumed “Dick” in your comments, refer to the parting in such terms…..you must be party to some music history that nobody else has been…🤔

    • @flanflinger37

Roy wasn’t ousted by Jeff Lynne. Roy wasn’t happy with the management of Don Arden, couldn’t work with him and decided to leave. Roy and Jeff are still good friends.

If you’re a manager and you have Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood in a band together it’s a waste. Much better to drive wedge between them and split them off into two separate - lucrative - money streams.

The one and only Roy Wood,
The word legend is thrown around too much these days, but in Roy Woods case, it’s totally justified.
He formed a band in the 80s called Roy Woods Helicopters,
the first single was titled “Rock City”.
    Well worth a listen.🙏

CANBERRA IS THE CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA.
    CANBERRA means 'Meeting Place"
Which is ironically coincidental because that's where our Parliament House is.
From 1901 - 1927 our 1st Parliament was in Melbourne, Victoria.
There is a different Melbourne in Florida U.S.A. where Jim Morrison was born.
You are aware that they are miming.
    Monkeys can't play musical instruments.
Plus Roy is nowhere near the microphone.
    It's all good fun.
    1973 Glam Rock.
There's even elements of Motown in the Rhythms.
In the U.K., Wizzard are an institution, they had many Hit songs.
Wizzard had one of the biggest and most popular Xmas songs in U.K. history.
Well so did SLADE, even QUO had a Xmas Hit song, very corny and daggy songs.
    Is Daggy an Australian word?
Several years ago Wizzard and Kim Wilde went on Tour supporting Status Quo.
Here is a Link for an interview with Rick Parfitt & Francis Rossi along with Kim Wilde and Roy Wood (Wizzard).
The biggest selling Single of 1974 in Australia is "My Coo Ca Choo" by Alvin Stardust.
The biggest selling Single of 1975 in Australia is "Fox on the Run" by Sweet.
My birth in 1961 timed it beautifully for me being a great age to enjoy the music of the eras that followed.
I remember our family sitting around the 'Radiogram' singing along to the latest tunes by a Band called THE BEATLES.
The most influential Band of all time gave birth to thousands of Hit making artists.
