I would strongly suggest that if you are going to take magnesium supplements to do so at night before you go to bed. I used to take all of my supplements in the morning and then I would be so tired during the day and I didn’t know why. Taking magnesium at night before bed was a game changer for me.

I've dealt with severe pain for decades. I was anorexic & after I began eating daily it took me over a year to realize I was eating the wrong foods. I'm still allergic to milk, beef and soy. Magnesium has helped my pain levels to go down a lot along with the diet changes. And helps my sleep a lot. I did have neurosurgery in March & it helped get rid of about 40% of my overall pain. But I had been malnourished big time. Eating correctly & taking supplements has changed my life drastically.

I began taking magnesium malate or glycinate a few years ago due to eating a ketogenic diet due to diabetes. As a wonderful side effect my migraines became far less, muscle pain decreases quite a lot, and my BP doesn't have as many swings. We found it helps my husband with pain, and stress issues he had. It also helps him sleep better. There are two vitamins that I notice reduce my muscle pain, magnesium and vitamin D. They make a big difference. Other vitamins do help, but magnesium I never want to be without again.

Read the supplement label and get the one without the other forms of magnesium. I no longer have migraines and no loose bowels (which I had with the cheaper magnesium oxide), and I sleep much better! @@lauraschroeder8177 To be more specific, I developed interstitial cystitis from too many UTIs when I was young. Then I was given a nerve block which unfortunately irritated my pudendal nerve and then I end up with something horrible called pudendal neuralgia. Of course you can add pelvic floor dysfunction on top of that which generally develops when you have excessive nerve pain. I was a mountain biker before all this happened, and as you can imagine, with these conditions it can be excruciating to sit on a bike seat. Some people would tell me it’s even damaging, but I have found that with the right bike set up and slow return to my favorite activities, I can ride Pretty much pain-free now. I just have to use a special saddle and I’m good. It wasn’t easy at first, you’re always gonna have a bit more pain when trying to get back into activity when you’re this sensitive. I would consider myself 80% better. I have people contacting me all the time from support groups because they can’t believe I’m sitting on a bike and doing better from some thing supposedly so incurable. I tell them I use mind-body approaches but that it’s not an overnight fix. It’s a constant maintenance.

I stumbled upon magnesium 2 yrs ago from another source. But today while I’m watching this, it’s great explanation and very true. I will not go without. Your body uses it 300 Times a second on the cellular level. It does just about everything. Much more than pain. Blood pressure, strong bones and teeth , it also makes the arteries in your heart and veins more elastic like they were when we were kids and young adults. So basically your chances of having heart disease lessons and it keeps your circulatory system in much better working condition by taking magnesium. Taking vitamin D3 not only helps with depression, pain and strong bones, it also is needed to be taken with all your other vitamins and supplements to be evenly distributed around your body. Recently came across this info, incase anyone else was not aware of this info on D3 and magnesium. So I will not take my vitamins and supplements without vitamin D3 at same time now

That was really interesting. Thanks. Just looking on Cronometer it seems very easy to get up to the daily amount and at under a 1000 calories too. I took 15g of raw cacao because it's non dutched and therefore froths very effectively in a milk frother, especially using organic, unsweetened soya milk (250ml). Two medium slices of whole wheat bread and 200g of baked beans. Milled flax seeds 10g...the sprouted type are especially good. Then sweet potato and carrots 150g each and 150g each of broccoli and cabbage. That's 965 Kcal and approx 420mg of magnesium. Incidentally that also gives well over 100% of Phosphorous, iron, manganese and copper and nearly 100% of calcium, potassium, zinc and selenium, not to mention most of the daily vitamin requirements and a great omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. In the UK that's very inexpensive food especially at those small quantities

Unfortunately most commercially grown vegetables are lacking natural minerals due to the methods used to grow them. Soils are depleted of natural minerals and so farmers are using fertilisers to grow. As well hydroponics, where they use fertilisers and so the vegetables are lacking in many minerals usually found in organically production.
Then there's the pesticides and other chemicals used to get picture perfect uniform products on the shelves.
This is also the case with meats.

You gave factual information, good sources of information and explained it in detail. I have CFS, Fibro Myalgia and diabetic neuropathy. I eat a fair number of the foods that you listed that have a good source of magnesium yet I still have all the signs of deficiency. I think it's due to all the medications I take. I think adding the magnesium Glycinate taken in the evening would be a good option for me. My leg pain and feet pain is far greater when trying to sleep. Synergy is basically the theory of multiple nutrients needed to be ingested because they need to be able to work together. Taking a magnesium pill could drive down other nutrients in your body that are low already causing disease. If you are well to do or have a relative that loves to garden you would be best to grow green vegetables especially vegetables such as broccoli to get the multiple nutrients that are needed. Increasing your magnesium without maintaining proper potassium levels could be a dire problem

I’ve taken calcium with magnesium (called vital-mag, Shaklee brand) for years for migraines, or for muscle spasms in the back (which are quite painful, like labor pains in the back 😩), and it works real well. It’s not instant relief. It takes time to work, depending on the severity of pain. Better to take it daily, but sometimes I get bad about that. This is a safer, more natural method above over-the-counter drugs.
Also good for charlie horses in the shins.

My doctor just told me to start taking 500mg of this a day as I suffer from chronic pain from countless injuries throughout a very violent life as well as extreme anxiety and PTSD, lately I was experiencing taquacardia and bracacardia due to lowering my Clonazepam too quickly...... This lead to a level of terror even I have never experienced before.... I was waking up scared of what the day would bring, if I even slept, to going to bed in terror.... Last week my big toe went numb and I told him about the discomfort in the same leg.... It was as if he had an epiphany and said I needed to take the magnesium...... It's only been a few days of taking 400mg but tonight I'll be taking the recommend 500 as I had to wait for delivery...... I already feel a bit better but I'm getting a EKG and something else done later this week.... Oh and my numb toe has decreased...... I'll update this in a bit when I know more.... Thanks for the explanation, it helped.....

Magnesium also is instrumental in regulating calcium in vivo. I had prostate calcifications and an event caused a huge prostatitis flare-up and literally could not urinate until my bladder was very uncomfortably overfull. I took 1000 mlg. of magnesium, and literally within 5-10 minutes, there was noticeably marked improvement and I could urinate. Within days I was completely back to normal.

This is good to know. I have been taking magnesium citrate and I stopped taking it for a while before and after gallbladder surgery to give my gut a rest. Now I think I need it again and I would like to try magnesium glycinate.
Also, since my gallbladder has been removed it seems my metabolism is using food and supplemental nutrients better. My fingernails are growing for the first time in 10 years. I feel better, more energetics. I’m still tired but that could be something else. Two years ago I fell in my backyard and could not get up, without help. I fell again a few weeks ago and I got right up myself. This is a huge change.
I’d appreciate it if people would designate which magnesium they take in their comments about their own experience. They mention what kind of pain they had and where but then they just say magnesium and we don’t know which one if we have the same type of pain.

Ketamine in street addicts destroyed their bladders and gave them IC. I use Ketamine and was very worried. Doctors and Pharmacists will tell you it is safe. I have cut down on my usage but want to completely get off of the drug. I will try Magnesium Malate. Movement has helped my pain.

Laura, be sure to drink lots of clean water before and after using keta, and drink lots of water the day after, don't hit the coffee the next day. I do recommend using only small amounts, microdosing and never every day, it is difficult. If you smoke, stopping will improve your pain threshold dramaically. taking cold showers/cold swims will also do a world of good for your pain, stay away from normal pain meds as they lower your pain threshold. If you arent doing yoga, give it a go for at least a month and see how it works for you. adding potassium suppliments does a world of good for me with my energy and pain relief mixed with magnesium, it is a daily basic for me. Just be sure to drink a glass of orange juice or water with lemon juice in it as to stop kidney stones. listen to your body as best as you can , and take it easy on yourself. Blessings

I started taking Magnesium Taurate by the recommendation of York Cardiology for irregular heart rhythms. It helped my heart and I also realized it made me sleep so well when taken at night and also my back pain went away.

I take magnesium tartrate which was prescribed by my doctor because of my chronic diarrhea. I have migraine and many other body pain issues. I also use a magnesium spray on my legs and feet for cramps which works if you put enough on. I take my magnesium in night shortly before I go to bed to help me sleep also.

Dr. Andrea is there a similar medicine compared to magnesium ? I'm asking that because of the reaction of the medicine in the intestine as I usually have problems with diarrhea, I'm certain I cannot take it. Thk you.

Mag is the most important factor in hypertension. Mag deficiency makes excess minerals (mainly calcium) accumulate in soft tissue, which restricts blood flow between different areas and directly causes hypertension. Cholesterol is 100% meaningless. Hypertension and heart disease are all about mag deficiency.

I have to say how crazy it was to hear you talk about migraine. After a lifetime of trial and error. I do everything you talk about and raised my kids on the same diet. This is SO important.Tons of nuts ,avocados , ect... We avoid anything processed or with a ton of preservatives. Do we cheat. Yes but that can hurt. . Lol. I also have been taking baths in the salts for decades when it’s bad. A good rare steak seems to help also. My question is in reference to insomnia. I had it BAD. I could go days without sleep to the point of hallucinations. 5 days was the longest. Worked my regular schedules , kids , baths ect.... I wasent just laying around. I had no idea how to explain this to my dr without sounding insane. This we,t on for about 10 years. I learned a trick to tell what was real and if it was just in my head. The fix. Gabapentin. Have no idea why but it works. I have a failing ACDF at C4 /C 5. And instead of pain meds he prescribed gabapentin. I’m taking 1200 mg a day. I have been on same dose for almost 2 years and I sleep like a normal person. Every night around 6 hrs a night. For me. That is AMAZING . Do you have any idea why this works a,d what is causing it ?

Hormones, especially for females can cause sleep issues. Might get that checked. Also a sleep study wouldn't hurt. I've also used gabapentin after a bad car accident for my legs due to severed nerves. It helps and with sleep, but unfortunately for me, it makes me depressed if I take it everyday.

I took gabapentin for about 11 weeks 3x a day for they thought it would help my fibromyalgia pain.... It helped NOTHING and I didn't like the way it made me feel! More importantly I basically quit taking my magnesium because it had to be separated out from the medicine! And so now I'm playing catch up to replace my magnesium! Rheumatologist appointment tomorrow , blood work and see where all my levels are .... I've decided NO STEROID SHOT TOMORROW EITHER!
