Just remember lol, don't put them in a tank unless you are ready to destroy the whole tank to catch them out lol. Hardest f'ers to catch known to man lol
I just ordered a super red long fin online for my 70 litre tank for now where I have neo cardina fire shrimp. Later it will be going into my larger 120 litre tank. I’m not getting another until I know what sex it is as it’s unsexed as yet. Thanks for the info, very good!
In my experience my Bristlenose would never hurt a fly. Currently have both in sumner tubs. Surprised they were hard to find in Norway, when they’re sold on every corner in the USA. For us it’s the quality shrimp that a struggle to find locally.
Super awesome! I used to have a bristlenose (2 males and a female) before shrimp keeping and I managed to breed them. It was great adventure. Those tiny "tadpoles" are so cute 🥰 Be careful, because if you succeed, you will have a hundred from one spawn 🤪
Oooh never thought of putting a pleco with shrimp. I tended to stick to nano fish like chili rasbora and axelrodi. The shrimp are all over the tanks like ricochetting bullets yet the fish hang out out at the back. Great idea about the bristlenose. I could put my pleco juvies in the shrimp tank to grow out now I know it can be done.
I love them. I just got two of them in the neocaridina tanks, and they’re getting along just fine. Some are a little lazy and some really clean the tank through. It is kind of tricky to catch them because they can get stuck in the net, but they’re not aggressive at all.
Yeah otocinclus are helpful too, but they’re too small and wouldn’t clean the tank that much if there’s only one. Will never attack or eat the baby shrimp tho. I have two… "barbo cerezo" I don’t know the English name, they’re also pretty peaceful and don’t really care about the shrimp, also they look great with a few red shrimp and/or plants with a little orange/reddish on top.
@@csharpe5787 I've got one In my shrimp tank right now. I heard they eat planaria so I tried it out. Im going to keep an eye out for that. So far shrimps of all sizes are safe.
That’s so exciting, I’m glad you have something new - and babies too! I corral my betta into the net with the aquarium trowel thing. Your fish look really fast.
Nice looking Plecos, I know Mark Shelly loves them in his NEO tanks. Let us know in time if you see any little shrimps missing, still on the fence about mixing fish and shrimp myself.
Good choice of tank mates with the bristleys, clown plecos are good too, smaller than the bristles but produce similar levels of plant/shrimp/snail food😉. Catching wise i normally just use a net and lift the piece of wood out so they drop off into the net, im normally catching 100 at a time though lol, currently got 1,300 ish 😂. Other good tank mates are pigmy corydoras. Bristlenoses do eat plenty so an algae wafer a day per plec is about enough, or a chunk of green veg, courgette is good.
I use Dwarf suckers (Otocincus) with my shrimps and it works great. One huge issue with Bristlenose is they grow big and most of them will be to big for shrimp tanks. Cheers
I raise them and it's better just to catch them with your hands this way you can feel them and not damage with a net but the babies are much harder to catch what I do for them is put a small net and catch them when there swimming to go into the net. I wish you all the good luck in your hobby, really enjoyed your vids. Stephen
Carful when you handle the larger ones by hand because those have larger spikes that protrude from their cheeks when scared. I didn’t know this until I scooped mine up with a net and he got tangled in it because of the spikes.
I've got a little ember tetra in my shrimp tank. I heard they eat planaria so why not. Haven't had a problem yet. Gotta keep an eye out to see if the Tera goes after baby shrimp though 😩
Heya, Mark! My otocinclus help my neos quite a bit. My neos don't particularly enjoy black beard algae, but the otos will suck it off the leaves. I've been worried about the otos eating shrimplets, but my population has increased dramatically since adding the otos around a year ago.
I don't have plecos myself (looking for some nice longfin variants), but from what I know the best way to catch them is to shoo them in a glass jar with your hand. Using nets on them is risky, since they can get stuck in there if they struggle too much (I believe they have spikes on their pectoral fins)
Hi Mark, I have watched type show on and off for the past 2 years. I'm staying to watch it more and more as one of my shrimp colonies has been plaguedwith planeria and I'm having to redo the tank. I'm also getting into caradena shrimp as well so just looking for more tips. Bristlenose plecos are awesome with neocaradena shrimp. I breed plecos and endlers with my cherry shrimp and my shrimp colony still thrives. Sorry to toot my own horn, but I'm actually got a video on my own channel where I talk about tank mates for shrimp. I just wanted to reach out and wish you luck with your precos. I know you don't need it. You'll do fine. Jack

Norway is a bit far mate, I could send you a nice pair of lemon blue eye bn plecos, I breed a bunch of them🙂 but being here in the USA It’s a too far for me to ship. I might try and send mark Shelly some of my line of bn plecos. Congrats on your bn plecos mark I think you will enjoy them🙂👍🏻
How would bristle nose be beneficial to a shrimp tank? Wouldn't they out compete baby shrimp for biofilm? I've been thinking about adding them to mine, but haven't for that very reason.
i have rc shrimps in my 29 community tank w platies, honey gouramis (baby assassins), and zebra danios as well as in a 15 gallon w a betta and some corydoras habrosus. they seem to be having a much better time in the 15 gallon. if u decide to get any more fish i think u should get a betta! ive never even seen mine flinch at a shrimp, let alone chase one. if u get one with long flowy fins they end up being way slower than the shrimplets
I keep a school of Ember Tetra's in my shrimp tanks, and the shrimps are doing amazing. They are calm and shy. Well you could say boring, but they arent.
You can see in my tanks, I keep fish, snails, shrimp and plants in ALL tanks (except hospital). I find setting up an ecosystem that is pretty much self sustaining is the best. Really, look at my vids (they are awful but show what I mean). At a minimum I keep a trio of guppy's in each tank, but I also have a community tank with swords, various tetras and danios, loaches ... lots of fish and it is my heaviest breed out of shrimp.
You might have wanted to quarantine them before putting them in but thats just me being very careful my self, looking forward to see how it goes and hope they do super well for you i have some snow White in one of my tanks that I hope to get breeding that yellow one is gorgeous
I keep Least Killifish in my tank with neocaridinas. The females get about 3cm and the males get about 2cm. With them being so small, they can only fit the tiniest shrimp babies in their mouths. I've never seen them hunt down shrimp, but I'm sure I've lost a few due to crimes of opportunity. The tank is heavily planted so that cuts down on predation as well. I keep an MFF trio and get about 30-40 babies a month. They're a live bearer and there's no predation on the young. I trade the Least Killifish along with other things from the same tank, like plants and snails, for store credit at the LFS. I rarely have to pay for anything out of pocket. While it might not be a symbiotic relationship like the shrimp eating pleco poop, one does benefit greatly from the other. I'm able to feed the shrimp a much higher quality diet of foods, such as frozen stuff more often.
I'm looking to get into caradina shrimp, but i don't want to have to buy an RO system to then remineralize. It just seems like a lot, i have hard water, is there another way around it???
Is ancistrus hard to find in Norway?? In Sweden, it is kind of a pest. I accidentally bread mine with no predators in my tank. Ended up with about 140 fry. Such a pain to get rid of. No one wants them. I put them up on Facebook for free but not much interest at all. A couple of weeks ago I had about 70 full-grown left. Then suddenly a guy contacted me and took 50. So now I can manage the rest of them. I will never breed them again, that's for sure.

Its not that they are so hard to find nobody is willing to ship at all.
Watching one of my shrimp gorging itself on snail eggs I realised why they do better with a few snail in the tank

Well, I must honest you have any baby shrimp, because embers are the worst for eating babies.

Thanks for the shout out 👋
Fun video Mark 👍

My two favorite shrimp keepers. My best to you both.
Let’s go
Pygmy Cory’s who sometimes breed more then the Neo’s without trying. I don’t know if they do anything but their cute and don’t mess with shrimp.
Its true ancistrus and shrimps make a good team. I had an RCS invasion were i had some little ancistrus. You need wood in the aquarium for them.
I got wood.....NOT LIKE THAT 😂👍

not really unless you buy shrimp from someone that is breeding them in hard water to start with.
there goes your biofilm!
I keep Corey cat's in my shrimp tanks 🐥
shrimp eat fish 😂
Mark , just mind that the Ancistris don't eat most of the biofilm and deprive your shrimp .
they will provide plenty of poop for food for the shrimp 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I keep pygmy corry cat with my shrimps. They are about the same size as the shrimps and their mouths are small so they won't eat the baby shrimps.
Added one to my tank 2 weeks ago never seen it since

I think surface dwelling fish like hatchetfish are good because they won't get in the way of the shrimp.
Can you breed shrimp and bristlenose plecos together in same tank?
Yes for neos sure 👍
Oto's,✔CPD's✔ Chilie Rasbora's, ✔ Pygmy Corydora's✔

I am not sure to be honest.
You may find that they don't do well alone !
They normally live in groups.
we shall see, they have shrimp friends now
I've got tanks that have had just 1 pleco for years and years, they do just fine on their own.
I keep bristle nose and many types of coridoras in my shrimp tanks. The Cory’s do not bother them. They work well together.
I keep limia vittata and cherry’s
I had to google what they were, very nice.
Ha ha they can spike you lol
You need wood in their tanks , they require it for their diet .
I have wood in all of the tanks and they will get wood in the tabs I feed.

Why bristle nose plecos
my friend Mark Shelly has a lot of success breeding shrimp with them.
