The best thing about this video is Nick's obvious pride and excitement in his achievement. It is not just a business for him, it is a passion. Thoroughly enjoyed watchig this.
While I can appreciate the sentiment for not selling them, you're sitting on a gold mine that will enable you to expand your operation there to do so much more fun and important things. I say important because I think you may be one of the more important tropical fish breeders out there figuring out how to breed hard fish. This could be super important in saving natural populations out in the wild or just saving rare species from extinction.
@@usnavyseal77 some of those buyers will buy multiple fish as they want to breed them as well. And as there's more breeders, the fish become less rare and more in demand. The sell price also drops, which boosts demand more.
This is my favourite L number tank of yours, it's always busy, they don't just hide in the caves they are always out and about unlike some of the others, I know the others are worth a lot more but I don't really like keeping fish you never seem to really see, Great video! 🙂
Bro, as someone who has broken so many rules of fish breeding, all I can say is, " You hit the nail on the head." People need to relax and stop stressing, let the fish do what comes naturally to them & that is breeding. I can't tell you how many so called impossible fish I have had breed simply because I stopped giving a shit and let them do what comes naturally to them.
This is my story with my l260s I was trying so hard to get them to spawn I literally gave up for 12 months. Now I have about 30 and they don’t stop. It’s cool when you get a healthy stock going.
@9:09 thanks for mentioning that thinking too much about the money can effect decision making and is an emotional trait. Some men I've noticed only call things emotional when related to topics they deem for women or feminine.
We can clearly see the enjoyment you get from the breeding side of the fish Keep doing your thing nick don't change your such a inspiration to help people breed I have a group of 201 and 102 so this video helps Fantastic job keep it up 🎉🎉
Jeez man haven't watched one of your videos in so long. I got out of the hobby whilst i went to university. I messaged you on instagram 4 years ago now probably and you replied giving me some tips on content creating. I'm going to give it a proper go now ive finished studying! Glad to be back watching
A mate of mine used to breed lots of catfish back in the day, separating the fry without disturbing the process is always tricky, so he used to put all the caves(holes and cracks in big blocks of bogwood for some) on the one end of a 40 long, and then he used to feed the babies at the empty end of the tank so that he could take them out easily, if I remember correctly they were small groups or trios and he would disturb them once a year and feed them up for a couple months till the rain started.
My dad and I just got back into fish/aquariums after a long break from it all. Besides Oscars, Plecos, Bristlenose and all breeds of of ‘sucker fish’ abroad at my favourite of them all. Just the different colourations, sizes and traits you could say they have is amazing. Not to mention they’re a placid fish. I’ve been looking at trying to find a couple Snowball and Zebra Plecos for my dads tank last couple weeks or so l, they hard to find & they do tend to get pretty pricey you’re not wrong there but at the end of the day it’s all worth it imo wether you get fry from them or not..
I was at a talk on catfish by Dr. Eric Thomas outside of Phoenix, Arizona a couple weeks ago. He mentioned using bamboo as caves for plecos because the wood actually provides a first source of food for the newly hatched fry while they're still in the cave. Just a thought.
I remember watching videos from Goliad Farms in Texas where they have Plecos that are literally a foot long or longer about how they had the roofs of their greenhouses get ripped during a hurricane and the rain flooded their system and caused the Plecos to go absolutely nuts breeding. Charles said something about how Plecos can be prompted into breeding with fast running fresh water. They are really interesting videos if you want to see seriously giant fish breeding.
Hey mate when you say you clean the filter do you wash it completely and the water changes is it just straight from the tap thanks or is it been treated the water
I am currently thinking of trying this, only my water is straight from the cold tap through the hma filter and the water going back in is pretty cold (uk).
Wowl those L201s are clean! ! Your batch of plecs are one of the nicest I’ve seen in a while! This video reminds me of an experience I had a few years ago.. I knew this guy known as “GarlicNoji” he was friends with Kalichi. He was a cousin of Kalijigi, who studied at Django Kiyoji. He moved to a place called Crustiji, where he met Mrs Kanishki. There they had a kid name Gobi, who grew up to become a Blazing Pillpoji! It was a cool experience overall
Absolutely brilliant, I have some juveniles myself im growing on, im sure this video will help when it comes to breeding them, thanks. Just wondering if your bug buffet will be available in the uk in the future, I've priced up what it would be to buy it from you, it would be about £40 that $76.50 for your smallest pack. Again brilliant video thanks
Nick, i see you learnt to be heaps more patient, my dude. Let mother nature take her course, and look how much it's rewarded you. Of course, there is always going to be a bit of human intervention, but nature always knows what's best. Good on you, Mate
hmmm could it be that harlans trio are not related and that could have been a better match cause there were not close related? I have plecos also like this no success for so long then i introduce a fish that i know is not related(much older) then boom.
Congratulations on your success. You say that you're not really interested in selling them. Of course you are, you're in the business of selling fish and you'll make a fortune out of them.
The title image have on the bottom L142 which is a panaqolus species and the top one was L240 which is a leporacanticus species. And the video is about L201 which is a hypancistrus. L201 is actually the easiest one to breed no effort from the keeper what so ever. Which is why they price is 5$ each here in China.
You might wan't to tell people how you clean your sponge? Cleaning a sponge for me is to rinse it out in water i take from tank so you don't kill bacteria.

Truer words have never been spoken 👏
Also just keeping the prices high for everyone else
Remember that on rare fish, there are only so many buyers. So they might go for 70 bucks but there might only be 20 buyers in Australia
@@usnavyseal77 some of those buyers will buy multiple fish as they want to breed them as well. And as there's more breeders, the fish become less rare and more in demand. The sell price also drops, which boosts demand more.

@9:09 thanks for mentioning that thinking too much about the money can effect decision making and is an emotional trait. Some men I've noticed only call things emotional when related to topics they deem for women or feminine.

Very pretty fish - but have seen mine 2 times since I got it 8 months ago in my 125 gallon
Beautiful fish but a bit expensive for me given that in a planted tank I would probably never see them😂. They are gorgeous though.
very cool😍
We need more videos and more breeding videos please
How to tell male and female because I have one but would like to get it a partner
Do you trade the fish for genetics?
Orinoco angel plecos are one of the most beautiful plecos in my opinion, id choose an l201 over any zebras. [prob because they're like $25 here]

How can I increase the survival rate of my betta fry
I had much better luck once I set up "deans fry system" with a little bit of constant water flow.
