I am a lover of aquatic animals, I do my best to maintain their health and well-being in my fish tank, and I love cherry shrimp. All the options in the videos are precious species and the data of each one that you show us, really thank you, that information is very useful. My favorites are the Neon tetras, I think they give the environment more color and are good companions.
I have a rili and cherry shrimp tank and it's the most therapeutic thing ever!! I find myself staring at the tank every now and then during breaks from work. Wow that's a amazing viedo and well explained about cherry shrimp tank mates. Thanks for making this type of viedo. This video was very informative. Your content never disappoint us
I am hoping that my 7.5gal bioactive tank will support the 7 cherry shrimp I added last week. Its heavily planted and well cycled, with 7 celestial pearl danios and countless tiny ramshorn snails. I'm starting to have an algal growth that should be a feast for shrimp. The CPDs ignore the shrimp entirely. I'm very new at this, and would take any advice.
i have a 20 gallon long that i plan on putting neo shrimps in and i was wanting to add a black khuli loach, would anyone advise me against it or should it be okay? it will be an aquascaped tank w plenty of hardscape, places to hide, & plants. still doing more research but any advice helps
Three more suggestions: threadfin rainbowfish, norman's lampeye and smaller pseusomugil species like gertrudae. Endler's livebearers will bother shrimps, they have very strong hunter's instinct and they'll chase and pinch even larger shrimps.
We appreciate you sharing your ideas @Sic, and we are looking for volunteers like you who can enhance the viewing experience & knowledge of future viewers.
0:40 what plant is this?? I went hunting for aquatic plants and found this specific one but idk what it is. Please help !! Great video!! I have rice fish with my cherry shrimp 😬
Can confirm Endler's Livebearers are good tank mates, but I do suspect they snag a shrimplet now and then. Not that it seems to affect the shrimp population - they're doing just fine. I recently added the wild type neocardinas to a tank with White Clouds and Danio albolineatus. The females are berried, so we shall see, but they aren't bothering the adult shrimp. One tank has two nerite snails, the other has two nerites, three mystery snails, and some blue ramshorns and bladder snails hitchhiked in on some plants, but they're helping and are kinda pretty... I was thinking about taking out the Endler's and putting in Thai Microcrabs and doing an inverts-only tank. Anyone have experience with them?
Endler’s the least risky livebearers that you can try. Otos remain the safest fish you can buy for shrimp. Dwarf raspboras would be less risky than the endler’s
I got my cherry shrimp in with my pea puffers they don't bother him at all they may eat the babies but once the cherry shrimp are semi adults the Pea puffers don't bother him and they work great to keep the algae down in the tank I also have Corey Dora's in there along with some Hillsdale loaches
Can Rummynose be a option? I really want them but i have tons of baby shrimps and i need them alive. Currently have Mollies and they leave my baby shrimps alone.
Pencilfish you said it’s safe with cherrie. It won’t always stay on top of the tank and seems like from other internet sources it is very nippy. I have them in with my cherries but I am thinking of returning them to the pet store. Do many people actually have success with pencil fish in cherry shrimp tank ???
I have a 10 gal tank with about 10 cherry shrimp, 3 small guppies & 1 Kuhli loach (maybe 2 😇 tops) Ive spotted 2 or 3 heavelly pregnant cherry shrimp females last week but no signs of babies yet! I have few smaller/juveniles shrimp that live just fine & the tank is no joke 3/4 java moss at the moment. Is it possible 1 Kuhli loach (2 max) would be able to eat every egg or hatchling? Even if only 2 of 10 eggs survive adulthood, that would still seem very reasonable right? Im having trouble believing 1 Kuhli loach would go through all the eggs everytime & hopefully the babies r just hiding. The only darn reason the loach is even in there cuz its too thick to catch him. Any ideas? Thank yoy
I looked in my nearest pet store and the only crabs they have are: emerald crab, porcelain crab, sally light foot crab and some arrow crabs, along with various hermit crabs. Which of these would be the best option? Thank you!
@@AquariumStoreDepot okay thank you, I’m pretty new to this and just wondering if there were any other freshwater crustaceans to go along with these shrimp
Black skirt tetras? I know the answer I’m just in denial. Adult shrimp are fine so far. Also I have very hard slightly acidic water. 6.8ph. I tested tank and tap water. How is that possible? I thought hard water was alkaline?
any experience adding Ancistrus cirrhosus ? I 'thought' i've read they were okay with Neo caridinas? but ARE they really? anyone with experience on this?"I've got a couple in my tank (Ancistrus), and some of my female Neo caridinas are burried right now.. and i'm a new time fish tank owner (2 months) and i'm a little affraid the baby shrimp won't survive.. I have a lot of plants, from top to bottom in my tank, and a lot of hiding holes.. but as a new going to be father i'm worried :p
They usually aren't considered as popular. They will work. They may eat some babies, but I would consider them relatively safe compared to most other fish.
Depends on nutrient levels. Technically a tank can go without water changes if the tank is full of plants. Shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates and TDS so they are less likely to go water change free than hardy fish that can live in a planted tank
They can. Neos only though as they have similar water requirements the crabs are slow but will still try to catch them. Stick with cheap shrimp and expect to lose a few. Shelter and space is essential for success
I think that’s a sexy shrimp. Our editor pulled the wrong footage. Pretty sure that’s a saltwater variety 😅. Sorry about that. We are going to redo a lot of our older videos in the future
Giant Colombian Ramshorn snails are great with cherry shrimp and it's fun to sit and watch them munching on cucumber. Neon tetras ate my pineapple swordtail fry.

Hi, out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on putting medakas and cherry shrimp in the same tank?
I am hoping that my 7.5gal bioactive tank will support the 7 cherry shrimp I added last week. Its heavily planted and well cycled, with 7 celestial pearl danios and countless tiny ramshorn snails. I can confirm, ember and neon tetras, and corydoras, are good fish to have in general. I keep them with amanos.
If I add some lava rocks ,woods and lot of christmas moss, can I add 6x Corydoras Sterbai in a 100L aquarium together with cherry shrimps?
Should work

Those are all saltwater inverts, they would not be appropriate for a freshwater tank
@@AquariumStoreDepot okay thank you, I’m pretty new to this and just wondering if there were any other freshwater crustaceans to go along with these shrimp
@@brandonfrankel3145 Hi. I'm just learning also. A crab that seems quite safe with shrimp is the pom pom crab - might be worth reading about.
I had about 8 neon tetras and two guppies and they decimated our shrimp population
What are your thoughts about cherry barbs and shrimps? Just asking.
Cherry barbs and shrimp are a bad combo once the cherry barbs become adults. They are known for eating adult cherry shrimp!
Will Cardinal tetra work too?
They can. More risky than neons due to their size. They will consume shrimp babies and make nip at adult shrimp
Hello. How about medaka fish?
Medaka fish works great too. Missed it on the list when I made this :)
Black skirt tetras? I know the answer I’m just in denial. Adult shrimp are fine so far.
Also I have very hard slightly acidic water. 6.8ph. I tested tank and tap water. How is that possible? I thought hard water was alkaline?
It usually is 🤔. But yes black skirts will eat shrimp sometimes adults too
I really like to see these little animals moving
What is that plant at 3 mins in?????
That’s Christmas moss 😊. Works really well in shrimp tanks.

Can caridina and neo caridina be tank mates ??
are guppies okay to have?
What’s the best way to cook these shrimp 🦐?
Bread and fry them 🙃
@@AquariumStoreDepot lmao 🤣
Can cherrys live with platies
Can we put pea puffer w cherry shrimp???
No - pea puffers will eat them
How come no one mentions Hatchet Fish as possible mates or bad ideas for Cherry Shrimp?
They usually aren't considered as popular. They will work. They may eat some babies, but I would consider them relatively safe compared to most other fish.
@@AquariumStoreDepot I used to have Hatchet fish with guppies. The guppy adults were a bigger threat to the guppy fry
Just make sure you keep your tank closed. Hatchetfish love to jump.
What about zebra danios?
They will eat the babies. Adults should be okay as long as you have a lot of hiding spots (e.g. - planted tank)
How much, can shrimp go without water change ?
Depends on nutrient levels. Technically a tank can go without water changes if the tank is full of plants. Shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates and TDS so they are less likely to go water change free than hardy fish that can live in a planted tank
@@AquariumStoreDepot Thank You.
how about guppy?
Endlers are better with shrimp if you want a livebearer
how about guppies?
Guppies May pick at them. Endler’s are a safer bet - which is why they are on the list over guppies.
Can we keep cherry shrimps with loaches
Generally no. Kuhli and hillstream would be your safest. They will both eat baby shrimp and may eat adults.
@@AquariumStoreDepot what about zipper loach
Can I keep frogs with my cherry shrimp?
It can be done. I would consider it low to moderate risk. The frogs may eat a shrimp here or there.
@@AquariumStoreDepot ammonia spike in water ended up killing them all lol the frogs only ate one
If you’re not trying to grow a colony you can keep them with bettas and gourami.
And gubbys? They safe?
I have a kuhli with loads of baby shrimp, and the loach is scared of the shrimp 🦐 😂
Lol. Too many shrimp 💀
Niceee
Glofish?
Amano shrimp will 100% eat any neos that are less than half their size if they get the chance.
What about guppies?
Guppies will eat babies and may nip at adults. Try Endler’s instead
@@AquariumStoreDepot currently i have guppies and shrimps in same tank and they are doing really fine in planted tank
Can i keep vampire crabs with shrimps
They can. Neos only though as they have similar water requirements the crabs are slow but will still try to catch them. Stick with cheap shrimp and expect to lose a few. Shelter and space is essential for success

Amano is a no no no for me.
Yes, you may share your story so that people in the future understand the challenges you encountered when you had these snails.
Why is that?
Keeping different colors will eventually leave their offsprings with wild colors(brown or smth)
That correct - it’s best not to mix species as they will breed with each other. Though some species like Amano will not breed with cherry shrimp
Neon tetras keep picking off and killing my cherry shrimps
Sorry to hear that 😔. Are they going after your adults too?
I had an Amano shrimp eat all of my cherry shrimp. Big female
