    Thanks for mentioning how loud it can get...i see SO many idiots saying this thing can't be gigged with or keep up with a drummer....hilarious when i use mine with a drummer every week and he asks me all the time to turn it the fuck down

      What level is your volume knob at when playing with a drummer? I don't want any power amp distortion and 20w is not a lot of headroom. Hopefully it's enough to not get any power amp distortion..

      CREPERUM Band Ended up selling mine about a year ago for a 5150 50 watt simply for the tone difference and build quality. After 8 months it just wasn’t holding up. Plus I wanted the 6L6 power tubes of the 5150. The low end on the Peavey could be a bit thin and required a 10 band EQ in the fx loop to compensate. And you definitely would want to run it through a 4x12 to push the volume I was. But if I recall I had it at around 1030/11 o’ clock. But long story short: it can make the noise but I’d recommend (for the price) a used 5150 if you’re gigging and use the Peavey in a permanent jam location or for bedroom jams/recording. I also had found they used cheap ruby tubes that I had to swap because they were so noisy and sounded bad. Taking it apart to swap the tubes was terrifying to uncover how poorly this thing was constructed and it really started literally decaying at a rapid pace after that. But that’s my two cents for what it’s worth!

    Great vid, I will add that if u want to use the raw signal into an impulse loader, instead of using the mic emulatator output, u can use the effects loop send as an output (of course with the mic defeat button engaged) into an external impulse loader or through interface into a daw with an impulse loader plugin and use ur favorite impulses, which sounds way better than the mic emulation. Basically it comes with an internal speaker load box, which is awesome because load boxes aren't cheap

    I was making light of your self created word...ohm...age. It's referred to as impedance...a form of electrical resistance measured in ohms. I bought one of these new and in the manual it actually says..."wait till you plug this into a 4x12, you'll be in for a treat!"...on the section explaining the 8 or 16 switch. I use a set of four 10 in Celestions and it sounds amazing but now I want twelves! It's a great amp.

    • @aaronarandac4

      Yes, because the channel one toggles the crunch and the lead channel. And other one does fx loop and reverb. Each jack has two functions. So unless you got some custom footswitch that had 4 switches and 2 plugs, you need 2 individual footswitches to control everything.

    I am looking at this or Marshall DSL15C head as my next amp. Which do you think is more versatile? I usually play metal and classic rock. Does this Peavey take pedals well?

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  6 років тому +1

      Hello! I would say that if you really cherish a clean channel, then you ought to go with the Marshall because the Peavey really doesn't really clean up. For metal I would say the Peavey beats the marshall for sure. They will both take pedals well, but the marshall may benefit more from overdrive/ distortion pedals. The Peavey really flourishes with high gain, but it is a bit of a one trick pony. The peavey does have built in reverb though, and more wattage, plus the direct out functions if you're interested in that. So overall I would advise you to go with the amp that satisfies you the most with its main feature being the sound. If you really want that iconic metal sound, get the peavey, but if you would want clean tone and the marshall sound, then get the marshall. Thanks for your question!

    Thanks

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  3 роки тому

      Fair question! It's actually kinda reversed. So they are both gains so cranking either will add more crunch and grit. However, the post gain has more control over the volume of the amp and the pregain adds more grit to guitar signal before it hits the eq and post gain.

    Never had a tube amp. Just got this thing. Love it. But can someone explain the standby thing. Do I turn power switch on, wait 30 seconds or so then turn standby on? Do I leave standby on the whole time I jam? Do I flick both switches off when turning it off. Thanks. Sorry for noob questions

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  6 років тому +2

      Chris Calvert Not a problem! Everyone that playsbtube amps had these questions at some point. What you traditionally do is click the power switch up, wait 30seconds, then click the standby swith up. Both lights above the switches will be green when its fully on. Turning it off you would do the reverse order click stanby down, then power down. The whole point of waiting the 30secs is to let the tubes heat up. Since this amp is really small it doesnt take a long time to heat up at all. Its kinda like one of those old giant box TVs where the screen is the tube. When you turn it on it takes a little while for it to turn on completely. Thats the nature of tube technology, they are meant to run hot.

    • @chriscalvert4625
      @chriscalvert4625 6 років тому

      Aaron Aranda Another question. I have a really bad hum noise when on the lead channel. Especially when facing the amp with the guitar. (Emgs) how can I go about fixing this issue.

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  6 років тому +1

      Well any amp distortion will have a buzz/ hiss noise. It gets really bad if your amp is cranked and you're really close to it. You can try turning down some of the gain. Otherwise, you can get rid of the hiss completely with a noise gate pedal. I made a video explaining that here.

    Now could you play this compeletely out of itself, no cab? I currently do not have a cabinet but I've heard that it is possible to just plug your amp head into the speaker of a combo amp.
    However, my amp is a Kustom Defender 50W tube amp and the tubes are too old to be active. I am planning on buying a new set--but my question is would it be possible to simply use the speaker without activating the Kustom's tubes and having the 6505's tubes just power the speaker alone?

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  5 років тому

      Good question! That is totally possible, a combo amp is essentially a head and cabinet screwed together, so you can simply bypass the amp and use just the speaker. It just depends how your speaker is wired in the back. If it's just a 1/4 inch speaker jack connection you can unplug it and put it into the peavey head. Keep your combo amp unplugged too just to be safe when touching connections in the back.

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  7 років тому

      I got it to work on reaper, make sure the amp isn't on standby, and both guitar and amps volumes are appropriately up. Go to Reapers preferences/options. The amp will show up under audio device as usb audio codec. Then make sure the new track you start is armed to record. You should have sound after that. The Peavey 6505 mh doesn't have any additional drivers to download, so depending on what DAW you're using, it will show up under device settings or it won't.
      I also got it to work on audacity, same thing essentially, make sure that the recording device is set to usb audio codec.

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  6 років тому +1

      Good question, the Bugera Trirec does have a ton more features and capabilities, but if we are just talking clean tone and distortion tone then we can narrow it down. The Bugera has superior cleans because the peavey isn't really meant to be clean. However, I'd probably pick the Peavey for straight metal tones because it doesn't disappoint. The Bugera is also really good for metal, but what it does well that the peavey doesn't is lighter overdrive tones. All that being said, I do use the Bugera more often than the Peavey, primarily because I require a clean channel quite often.

      Siriusblck3 Ahh didn't know that. Some China stuff I've bought had issues, for instance the Behringer Deepmind 12 synth I bought this past year .. cool sounding, but just really poor workmanship on the keybed. I have never had anything guitar related that was made in China so I'm not sure there. The MIM stuff has been great. I almost consider the Fender Ensenada stuff American made. I know the guy who set up the Fender Ensenada factory in the 90's (Dave Maddox .. a US citizen) Was a neihbor of mine here in So.Cal. The Ensenada factory is only an hour away from us here in So.Cal., and there are almost as many hispanic workers at the US factory as there are the Ensenada factory, and I'd argue some of those Ensenada employee's take more pride in their work than some of the US guys I've met (when Fender was in Fullerton at least). Dave was a stickler for quality personel at that Ensenada plant, and it still shows these many years latter. The MIM Charvel I have is just as nice as the one I had in 1979/80. Anyway no matter if its made in China or not I still plan on getting the 6505mh......it sounds good. Thanks again for your vid.

      For what I read, the only issue on this MH is that SOME of them can kinda overheat, but is not is just in rare cases. I have played through the 6505+ 112 combo, and the tone was amazing, and felt well built as well, and they are crafted in China too.

      I've wondered the same thing for years. The 6505+ combo is great, but it's huge and difficult to get good really low bedroom volume for practicing without disturbing anyone else in the house. 60 watts is way too much for that. This head in a combo amp with a 10" or 12" speaker would be nice.
