  • Thanks for watching my comparison of the Peavey 6505 MH mini head to the Invective MH mini head (Misha Mansoor - Periphery). These compact tube amplifier lunchbox heads both deliver when it comes to tone and features but they certainly sound unique in their own ways. But which one of these 2 is the best choice for you? Find out by watching this comparison!

Invective is way more noisy, and something honking and pooping in the mids. Everything Misha touches, sucks.

6505MH because it has this mid punch while the Invective is the more scooped one in my ears.

I bought the 6505 a couple weeks ago and I just wanted to share this
I played a Show Yesterday at a skate contest and the Backline consisted of just 1 Speaker Cabinet which we didn't know (we are 2 Guitarists in my band) and we were panicking a little bit and thought that we could cancel our show. BUT the engineer there saw my 6505 MH and told me that i could go directly into the front of house. At first i was worried about it not sounding good but when i plugged in and he turned me up i was just blown away, the sound was fantastic considering the fact that it was running through the MDSI Input.
So If you are worried about the MDSI Input being terrible i can tell you it is not and you can definitely use it.

After trying one in person, the Invective seemed more suited to low-tuned and extended range guitars with its gain voicing. Played a baritone through it and it worked very well. A D tuned six-string sounded too twangy.
The mini 6505 on the other hand sounds good no matter what guitar you run through it..

6505 sounds killer but for my sound I think an invective fits me better. It seems individual notes are more pronounced and have the bouncy djenty sound which I love. Seems like 6505 is a jack of all trades and invective is a master of modern metal.

By this comparison, I like the Invective MH over the 6505 MH, especially for studio recording. It has a much clearer sound across all the frequencies and this would lend itself to varying the EQ section for more choices.

Good job! I recently acquired a 6505mh and love it. Big gain on the lead, nice bright cleans easy to push. Humbuckers so far. In your test the very top-end of the MH is a little more sparkly. To my ear. I am learning about which amps use which tubes, and these have the similar capabilities as say the AC 30. I made myself a master list of my amps, with notes, tubes, and serial numbers. I'm up to 14 lol, and I've been lusting over a Morgan for one. Thanks for the video!

Just picked up an Invective MH on a trade this week and honestly didn't think I'd be super into it but it sounds beastly. It's almost like a cross between a 5150 and an EVH. It's still got that huge and mean lower midrange but with the sparkle and clarity of the EVH amps. I haven't played the 120 but if it's anywhere close to the MH it's gotta be badass.

This is a hard choice for sure. Personally I think the boost switch on the invective is a little bit limited and I would almost prefer the throw a boost or od pedal in front of the 6505 mh which I already have plenty of to choose from.

  • @TJK_Audio
    @TJK_Audio 2 роки тому +3

Great comparison! Some notes as I listen - the Invective clean is very nice, I like it more than the 6505, but people are not really getting these for the cleans. The mid-gain on the Invective is much more high-mid forward - not as nice sounding in isolation but cuts better through the mix. The highs are a bit harsher (especially seeing the high turned down like it was, but that really only becomes a problem further up the neck. High gain is (as expected) similarly more high-mid focused on the Invective, but it cuts through the mix much better - it applies the kind of EQ I would probably put on the 6505 to ease some congestion in the midrange. The Invective seems a bit more nasally in the mids, but that works better in the mix and can be easily tamed (along with the highs) to taste with an EQ. Overall, they're both pretty good but I'd get the invective over the 6505.

Thought the 6505 would be great for recordings. I have two 6505 MH's, I got a deal. Great little amp. Some people feel the lead channel is not too versatile with the gain, that it's just way too much gain. I would love to see quad tracked guitars where each guitar has one take on each amp, specifically for the rock tone segment. I think the two amps would complement nicely, and if the gain was pushed just a TINY bit more from what you had here, or maybe if you engaged the boost switch on the Invective and then did nothing more, the quad tracking would thicken things up enough for high gain metal tones and it would sound awesome.

They're both great but in all honesty having a 6505 MH makes me feel like I made the better purchase, just because of the rawness and overall feel that the 6505 has over the invective. I might be in the minority here, but I just like how it sounds more tube-like to my ears and less artificial if that makes sense. Having all of the features on the invective like the noise gate and the built-in boosts are great, particularly the gate, because I have so many boost pedals that it doesn't really matter if an amp has a built-in boost cuz I'm going to want to boost the amp anyway. They sounded similar on both of the lead channels but on the rhythm channels when you took it to a rock sound there was the biggest noticeable difference. Both good but yeah I just prefer that thickness and aggression of the 6505.

I'm kinda not on-board with the whole EL84 tubes for overdriven tones. I belive they are very appropriate for clean/chimey tones, and low gain territory, but unsuitable for power section grunt that you expect from EL34s, 6L6s, 5881s, 6550s, KT66s, KT77s,KT88s. In fact it doesn't seem like EL84s have a direct replacement tube/valve other than 6BQ5. But there's good news, in case you missed the huge outpouring of media back in 2011 (sarcasm), JJ brought out the EL844 (the last 4 is not a type-o, it's actually the EL844 instead of EL84).
If you didnt know, JJ stands for Jan Jurco. Mr. Jurco bought up the old TESLA Electronics company, and its all important machinery, to manufacture and distribute its iconic radio tubes/valves. The manufacturers of vacuum tubes/valves are very few, 1. JJ Electronics in the Slovak Republic, 2. SED-SPb in St. Petersburg, Russia, 3. Expo-PUL(Electro Harmonix) factory surprisingly owned by American's in Saratov, Russia, and hold the rights too Svetlana/Sovtec/Mullard/Tung-Sol, 4. ShuGuang in Changsha, Hunan Province, and hi fidelity tube maker 5. PSVane also in Changsha, Hunan Province. That makes a total of 5 tube manufacturers left in the world, and all of them either "were" or "are" in a Communist Country. Not a single western country involved in then manufacturing or Reasearch & Development of these much needed electronics components.
Who's going to create a new 12ax7z tube that is quiet and possesses a gain structure with warmth/smooth hi end/ low end grunt/reliability/ , perfect for the guitar amp market? Plus*, made in the U.S., U.K., GERMANY, SWEDEN, CANADA, JAPAN? WHO???
Its my biggest armchair Dictator topic to date? But other than musicians who love the sound of tube driven tones, nobody understands the problem at hand???

On the clean that you started off with the 6505 MH is a little warmer and a tad bit fuller sounding than the Invective, but I like both. I'd pick the 6505 MH for the clean if I just had to choose. On your run with the overdrive I can not choose. I like both alot! Can't choose on that one. With the lead comparison I'll have both for the win. I think the invective has a little bit brighter top end sound to it than the MH. I still lean toward the MH but really don't know why. In a band with 2 guitarist one player using the invective and the other player using the MH sound similar then and would be soundtastic!!!

I also had a 6505 MH a few years ago. You really can't go wrong with either one. The difference is like splitting hairs but money being no object, I prefer the Invective. If you want to take some of that high end fizz out and sound closer to the 6505, just back off the presence knob. Problem solved.

what beautiful song is that? it's an interesting riff that holds on its own, sounds like a mix of Buckethead and Mark Tremonti, very melodic, loved it 🤘

    I have a 6505mh it's a great amp
The invective is a bit more expensive
Even used it's arround 700 bucks..
My MH cost ne arround 370 bucks
And for that price i think it's really awesome and rare to find.
I agree the invective Sounds a lot colder
And in my opinion the 6505 Sounds cold aswell
But it's really, really Tight and versitele

Since you were using an IR were you using the XLR out? Or how did you record direct?

How do you balance the difference between clean and lead volumes on the invective?

How did you run it thru an IR if the DI output already has a speaker sim on it?

Amazing, this is exactly the comparison I was hoping for! Thank you for showing the amp with boost on and off as well, that's super handy. Interestingly, I noticed you had the post-gain in the Lead example on 5 for the Invective, but only 3 for the 6505. Was there any particular reason for that? Like, the Invective maybe being quieter, or having a different taper on the volume pot - or is it the same and it just sounded better a little cranked? Oh, and sick riffs as always. I've started learning some of the ones from your other videos 👀

For every segment I tried to match the level so that they were just as loud. So the master controls just react differently

@@SonicDriveStudio I see! Thanks for the reply. Do think the Invective would max out before the 6505 then, if it needs more post-gain to match it in volume? Or do they even out closer to the top?

I like the 6505 for it's versatility. Also, it sounds closer to the Bogner Uber i use in the studio. The Invective sounds a tad more "sterile" in a Mesa Dual Rec sorta way. Both are amazing. But for my $, the 6505MH takes it (I bought 2 used for less than 1 Invective MH).

Did Peavey just release the same amp with an added boost and gate? They sound extremely similar to me.

Hi I am new to Peavy Min Heads, late to the party, for now can I practice on the 6505 using just headphones? I will the speakers later.

You can't beat the depth of that chug on the 6505 MH.

I like the 6505 for everything. The invective is too tight for my taste and not as 3D. Almost like it’s a hybrid solid state or something.

I thought I was hearing a difference, but then I closed my eyes and the amp stopped changing... The only thing I really noticed is that the "boost" has the opposite effect of using a tubescreamer and actually makes it more fuzzy and less chunky. So I would buy which ever one is cheaper and use a tubescreamer. Any difference in tone was miniscule and would never be noticed by an audience.

Invective is much brighter, scooped and less saturated/compressed/spongy. I like both. Not as big a fan of the mid shift in the invective especially with boost engaged. Mid knob all the way out doesn’t really give you that drastically scooped sound either. It’s subtle.
