I can't recommend this amp anymore than possible, if your looking for straight up metal, from thrash to low tuned crunch at a very good price whether for jamming on your own or with a band or even playing low profile live, this amp is just amazing. As the geezer said in this vid though if you are looking for also good clean tones this amp isnt for you. I'll be honest and say this is the first tube amp I have ever owned...I've played a few in my time but not enough to settle down and understand what the amp is capable of and I am never going back from this, tube amps are really something else! What sucks is ive just turned 27 and ive been playing since i was 12...started on solid state amps and then spent at least 10 years with a certain ridiculed digital amp (150 watt head and cab) which is known throughout the guitar community for negative reasons....for so long id jam with it always feeling 'errrgghhh or meehhhhhh' or this is horrible! Got the bollocks to finally own a tube amp and I am over the moon. I may not be the best to recommend certain tube amps through experience...but it's my lack of experience with tube amps which just says it's the way to go! and with these mini amp heads it's a great era to play guitar, fair prices for good quality at a maintainable volume.
i got 2 questions, first is it enough loud to cover the sound of a loud drummer? and second what wattage do you choose when your are playing by yourself at bedroom levels? are the tubes engaged when you are using the 1 or 5 watt setting?
Best tone i got out of mine is with the gain at 10:00, bass at 4:00, mids at 1:00, treble at 4:00, resonance at 8:00, presence at 2:00 but i also boost it with an overdrive and eq the effects loop because i find it has too much 400hz for my liking otherwise. Can't complain with this setup but yeah, stay away from low-mid heavy cabs with this amp.
I just bought one and it's on it's way. I play a lot of stuff with that kind of tone and with a TS9 in front of my 5150 already (bought this for bedroom stuff where my regular 5150 is just way too loud of bedroom jamming and recording) so I'll definitely let you know. I'm picky as hell with my tone and that's what I like tonally myself so I'll let you know when it shows up!
Dan O'Flaherty Sorry for getting back to you a little late, but I can confirm this thing sounds killer. The TS9, like all 5150/6505 amps I've used, really opens it up and tightens the tone as a clean boost. I'd definitely recommend one. I've had the chance to play with it for about a week now and it sounds awesome through my Orange PPC112. I'd go for it if you were interested but also try the EVH 5150 LBX. It's a little more expensive and has less features (there's really no clean channel, it won't get as clean as the 6505MH, but it also offers a killer tone too). But yes, I can get really sharp "djenty" tones out of it. It's a bit different than my full 5150, but it's still very clearly in the same family. Also for bedroom practicing, it sounds great. The 5 watt setting really is perfect for bedroom practicing and/or playing at reasonable levels and it's more than loud enough to hang with a band at 20 watts.
@@BagusWibisono for small pub gigs with a 1X12 cab go 20W and you will have no worries! For bigger venues you will mic up your cab and go only 5W for a bit stage sound! Every sound engineer will be your friend! Promise:) Check: ua-cam.com/video/N_Cpyj6opLs/v-deo.html
There are two jacks for the footswitch (so you can use two identical Footswitches at the same time, if you want). Plug it in the channel switch jack, left button switches from lead channel to rhythm channel and the right button turns the bright/crunch features of each channel on or off. On the effects loop/reverb jack, I honestly didn't try so far :P but I think one of the buttons should disable/enable the reverb and the other one should disable/enable the fx loop.
I just picked up this little monster. I am trying to decide on a 1-12 cabinet. I don't gig or anything. Would like to keep it at 1-12 for portability. Thanks.
I am entertaining the idea of obtaining this head. Great side table/speaker slanted cab, I wonder where to get one like that. 12:06 start of 12 to 14 picked notes per second ? . Time bending skill, even though it could be broken into 6 to 7downstrokes per second with picked upstrokes as a by a product of fast down picking it is superbly executed with ease. I enjoyed the whole review very much, thanks.
Great review. Nicely covered a variety of tones in a very informative and concise manner. However, for a brief moment, I thought your shirt said "GAY" on it. lol
+GAK was thinking more a side by side comparison with your thoughts and feelings as these are really the two micro amps people will be choosing between
I had the IRT and it is great but the 6505 will be better without a doubt! The IRT doesn't have enough gain without an overdrive. The built-in boost on the IRT is terrible...
NG One Seven well i still have the irt and i am happy for your answer :) i just order the 6505 and i was afraid if it have also same lvl of gain with my irt. also i was thinking for the 6505+ with a volume pedal at effect loop....
XDX The 6505 MH will have much much more gain than the IRT. If you take an overdrive as a clean boost at the front, you will not have to go above level 3 on the amp gain. I imagine gain half way on the 6505 will be more than you get on the IRT...
I feel its a great amp, but my only compalint is ........... the Gain knob doesnt feel accurate, meaning it raises the gain rather quickly from 10% to about 60% then from that point has a very gradual increase to tooo much gain/ Nother words ............0-60 it increases fast , 60-100 barely any change & mostly unusuable. -OTHERWISE killer amp.
The clean channel is dirty AF. If you are planning to ever use an actual clean tone, this is not a good option. I love metal, but also like clean tones. I bought it and I am returning because of that.
Dayummmm, I love this amp but I'm more impressed with his playing. Holy shite. Kudos

I love this amplifier.
Your bluesy shred on the lower gain was incredible
Please also demo the Peavey Valveking MH. I would really like to see a comparison between them

what about the peavey cabs 212/112 with the greenbacks ? good for this amp?
@@OrangeLight08 I never used one. Eq the effects loop if you don't like the tone.
Would it be good for periphery style with an od in front? Great demo

You are one of the best players on UA-cam, mate. Brilliant.
I just ordered this amp with the 112 cab gonna do some GnR
Perfect! I think thats the only review video I was able to hear what the resonance an presence exactly affect the sound!
What is the signal chain ?
OH; HA; Great vid! i used the minihead for giging and for recording, really like the build-in audio interface!
Hi.. they sound huge for giging? Enough?

great review joss
love to see a orange or15 demo from you guys :D

Yes...DREADFUL!
what songs do you play from 9.31 until 10.10?
Is the breath normal ? Mine has a lot of noise when tje lead chanel is on :/

If anything get a Mesa 1x12 of a Harley Benton 1x12 cab, those are great in my opinion

6505 or MT15?
in 20 watt mode would this be loud enough to play with a drummer with the right speakers?
Yes! at half volume it holds up with my drummer who plays very loud and the kick are going in the PA
Cool thanks just put one on layaway!
Patmclean232 yup I try this on a gig open concert and he'll yeah it's to loud just line in the amp through MSDI.

How is it a 'great' review? He calls it by the name of another amp within 15 seconds
comparison between this and the EVH5150 lbx? Great video as always!

That’s what I was thinking!
I just bought one :D :D :D
how is it??
it worth the money??also i will be glad if you test laney irt for comparison

The lead tone on mine sound terrible. The sound is ear piercing and unpleasing... cant figure out why
2bdkid you may need a compressor to smoothen out the notes by creating a bit more added sustain
Presence is too high
Man, I wish I could score that guitar with a trem... Ibanez 870 RWZ. Somebody hook a brother UP!
I had one, and it was great for crunch and lead distortion, but not clean tones. It's kind of a one trick pony.
those lights will also turn red if the tubes need replacment
mids are set a bit higher lol!!
