I hate my neighbor so I will buy the 100 watter.
actually is 120 w :P
+XDX Even better!!!

:))
I'm fucking crying lmao 😂
+Chill Vibes Music Group The cops have orders to ignore his calls. He will never get a night of sleep until he moves. Rock n roll.
It's nice to see some amp manufacturers figuring out that 90% of us play at home and 1 Watt is plenty loud enough. The only problem amp companies haven't solved yet, is your neighbour!;-)
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Exactly ! Hughes and kettner also have some amps loud enough to gig that have 1w and 5w options. Who said you can't have the best of both world?
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Well I think the idea was that you were supposed to practice in your garage. And you made it big or took a job that crushed your soul. If the latter then it didn't matter much any more. :)
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods Why not just turn the amp down?
This is something that people just don't get. Tube amps don't get their beautiful trademark distortion until you get an awful lot of volume. I'll use my half stack on 3 to practice, but jesus does it sound amazing cranked. Low watt heads have less headroom, so you can get fucking brutal at low volumes. Deathrape2001
Deathrape2001 These power attenuation devices are only a tiny part of the story of why amps sound good at high volumes though. I've already written something relating to this in another comment on this video; that lower powered amps have better lower volume performance than higher-powered amps (by virtue of having a low RMS power rating) is a myth for the most part and that actually, other factors have a far greater effect on low-volume performance than the amp's power. Such as the power supply design, the output transformer design and the speakers themselves. Those are the sorts of things people should really be thinking about if they want to take the issue of low volume amp performance seriously.
And with an amplifier like a 6505, the vast, vast majority of the reason why that amp is famous for sounding the way it does is because of preamp distortion it creates, not the power section. The two sound totally different tonally. Power amp distortion introduces a lot of sag in the low end that's uncharacteristic of the 6505's extremely tight low end.
Not to mention that things flat-out sound better when they're loud by the mere nature of how we perceive sound and music in general. The same signal at different volumes affects how we perceive and interpret the signal and there is no getting around that.
Hey Rob,
What do you Think about making a Chapman Guitars SG- Type Model?
An Affordable one with only one Pickup (like a Chapman Passive Agressive or some AlNiCo 2 Pickup) in the Bridge ; a Mahagony Body and a Recessed bolt on Maple Neck and a baked maple or rosewood Fingerboard and a Volume and Tone knob in a natural Finish
+ACDC1998Zippo That honestly sounds amazing.
+ACDC1998Zippo I'd definitely buy that
I'd buy one
yep, sounds good, thumbs up
Yeah, and have a Phil X sig model.
"Im rhythm chapman
And im lead anderton"
I have depression.
Then get the 120 watt
Lee: "I don't think blues players would take this to a gig".
Proceeds to make awesome blues sounds with channel one. :) Awesome amp, gonna pick one up early next year. If only there were Andertons in the states!
I was about to say the same thing. lol.
DITTO!!!!!
Was totally gonna get this but found a USA made 6505+ for $650, seemed like a pure winner, this still sounds stupidly amazing though compared to the big brother.
bakerXderek hey man, just wanted to say I love your vlogs. Do you know of any other amps that give that 6505 sound? I'm going for a Gojira or Black Dahlia tone but I'm broke as fuck
bugera 6262 and laney ironheart (with a boost)
CHEAAHHHHH
bakerXderek - how bout the full sized 5150? ua-cam.com/video/uaePWSooYiE/v-deo.html
@@GrassFed67 try the 5150 3 they're very comparable
Cap always enjoys playing with knobs!
That amp sounds really good!
I just bought this amp. I run the east river overdrive and an isp decimator 2. Gain on about 3.75 on lead channel and level around 3:00 on od and i run it on 5 watts! This thing slays!
No pick should ever cost £7
No Les Paul should never cost 3/4 of a million dollars either!
Ooops - 2nd re-upload in a week. This one was taken down because there was a bit of language that should really have been bleeped but wasn't. Sorry to anyone who was offended in the 1st video - hopefully, all is clean & tasteful now (well, as clean & tasteful as were ever likely to get!). Cheers.
+CaptAnderton I actually prefer non-bleeped version.
+CaptAnderton I'd love an alternate Channel without or less censoring. :)
+CaptAnderton I'd more probably be offended by bleeping out words which prevents me from getting the jokes
+CaptAnderton Bleeping out swear words is unenlightened, not unlike forbidding the use of tritones was in the old days. Imagine how silly it would be if these videos had bleeps every time Rob played that interval.
+CaptAnderton I have to say that the mic DI did not sound as original sounding as you would hear from directly from the microphone. I have low wattage amps at home such as the marshall class five, VOX AC4TV head and cab, Gibson Les Paul Jr. Reissue amp and the Fender Super Champ XD. They can get loud without losing their balls. My VOX has an attenuator that will go from a four watt to a quarter watt and still have some balls. Don't worry about being clean and tasteful because you guys are cool and most of us are adults anyway. Cheers, Flood!
I love that you can basically see the whole blues scale worn into that Squat (Squire/Strat as we lovingly call them in my social circles).
+Evans Goff Totally went back to the guitar challange video. And that neck was clean. Did you have it further relic'd or did you just play the crap out of it.
Most people seem to love Vintage 30s with their 5150s/6505s, but I really think those amps sound amazing through a greenback loaded cab... an this video shows it.
I just bought 6505+ and a 1x12 cab for my bedroom and the cab has a greenback and it sounds amazing. Great low ends, the highs are searing, and the mids sound really thick if you crank them. Very pleased with the toan.
DID YOU GET THE COMBO? IM GUESSING YOU GOT THE 120W HEAD SO BE CARFULL, DO NOT TURN IT ALL THE WAY UP OR YOU WILL BLOW THE 1X12 AND THE HEAD UP
There's no way you can get the full tightness of the 6505 with a single V30 you need at least a 2x12. Whereas a G12 1x12 cab still sounds great with this amp.
Jaime Noro They had a peavey 2x12 with those GB's there that i liked too with the 6505+ but there also was a Diezel 4x12 which i just HAD to buy. I actually chose a Blackstar id 150 amp because i preferred it at bedroom level and still sounded pretty good loud
Wow i though this cab had the peavey Sheffield speakers.. what do you guys think about those speakers? (sheffields)
Thanks!
Just got this thing today. Along with this amp, i also have a full sized 6505+, Fender Blues Deluxe, and have owned several others in my guitar playing journey over the past 9-10 years. This thing is my favorite out of all of em.
Is it gigable
August 2, 2020. Just bought this amp with accompanying 1X12 for my wife, son and I to jam on. I too LOVED the Peavey sound as a kid and even though I now have fallen in love with Orange amps this thing reminds me of the high school crush you just can’t ever get over. Think it’s gonna be a blast to bring my son up the Peavey way!!
I wish they played more metal on an amp pretty much designed for metal.. it would've made a lot of sense in my opinion, but hey who am I?
I still rock my Peavey Vypyr 30. The 6505 modulation (& the Diezel/XXX mods too) are absolute prime.
Sweet shirt Rob, Official Live 101 Proof is a kickass record.
I had a Bandit 112. Loved... LOVED that amp. Had to sell it, but, damn... Solid State for the win. :)
Can you do a review of that lava lamp ? :]
You all will be the David Attenborough's of UA-cam. 40 years from now, and still making entertaining videos. Lol. David Attenborough is the man by the way.
I wish they'd make a 6505 *PREAMP* . . . . . with the exact signal path of the preamp section of the 6505+ head, just in a standalone pre, so I could use it with an in-line pad into the front end of a little 5 watt bare bones single-ended amp, into a 20/20 watt stereo power amp, a 50 or 60 2x6L6 power amp, a quad el34 Marshall power amp, or straight into the interface with a clean amp impulse.
honestly I prefer them talking about the gear than the playing. I like a lil playing for context just. Batter on guys.
I'm sold! \m/
I have on of these and run it through a harley benton 2x12. Sick tones for sure.
rob that top is stunning, damn!!
Not sure if I'll ever buy another Peavey product after the undercover boss episode. Run by heartless people.
+Guitar Stu You think they're the only one in the business who have these type of business practices? They're not.. the only difference is Peavey was the only one who did it on TV. I bought my 5150 years ago when it was still made in the USA.... really wish the economy didn't force peavey to have overseas production. The best part of it was it was in MINT(used) condition, with brand new pre and power tubes, and I only paid $700 for it. Block letter 5150.
+Fifty0ne it's not the far eastern manufacture I don't like I have far eastern made amps (Orange/EvilRobot). It was the fact that they lied to their employees and promised them jobs they knew wouldn't exist. I used to have a 6505 and it sounded great!
+Guitar Stu Are they worse than Gibson?
.
Then buy it used. It in no way benefits the company but the person selling it privately.
Love it.... You should compare it to the new EVH 5150 LBX.... should be a fun comparison.
Willem Kerpel also a difference of about $200 so nah, not a good comparison.
the 6506 mh is better
@@azabuvsobelo5687 definitely not
@@TornByThornss it really depends on your needs. The MH has the LBX beat by miles as far as features.
silentflaw Yeah, If I want features I’d get a modelling amp. When it comes to higher end tube amps I just want simple good tone, personal preference though.
after watching this a year ago I bought this head. couple months later be had it for a year and love it.boost it with maxonod808 it's sick.thats if you just want more bite doesn't really need it imo.its an amazing amp

You forgot hair product
The 5150 number is owned by EVH. Because of this copyright, peavey changed the name to 6505 which is different from the 6505+
Hi, as always a great review with such nice English humor built in.. just one comment: I think the DI output signal sounds "not good", so microphones will still be needed to catch up the sound, in my opinion, Uwe, Guitar player, South Germany.
These things are stupidly cool.
21:23 You legend Rob.
It took 18 minutes for me to realise that me and Rob are wearing the same shirt.
Who has a 4x12 cab in there 10'x10'bedroom? WTF? I play a 1x12" 50w amp on 2 and my neighbors has pitchforks outside my door...
When I lived with my parents I had a 4x12 cab and a 75w amp stuffed in my tiny bedroom. It was very impractical.
I have a 1w Marshall thru a 1960A 4x12 in my bedroom. Nothing beats it. I play it sometimes at 3am no probs, just turn it down.
"[that price] puts it firmly in, kind of, you know, the territory of a few different amplifiers that you can buy for that kind of money".
That's the kind of insight you just don't get on other channels.
;-)
Bought a Katana Mk2 head last week: sent it back and bought one of these! Done with digital :)
PS: It was Lee Marvin :)
@@KJ_S1K You will not regret it! Got my 6505 MH 2 days ago and love it! Just received upgraded tubes for it today :)
@@KJ_S1K I bought 2 x Tung Sol power tubes, a Sovtek 12AX7WA (for V1), EHX 12AX7 GOLD (for V2) + Sovtek 5751 (for V3). I also bought a standard EHX 12AX7 just to have a spare in case I wanted to experiment. All of my tubes are Russian made (I only use Russian)...
PS: You cannot use 6L6's in these: it only uses smaller power tubes with a different pin configuration. 6L6's are much bigger with a different pin placement...
That head is bangin! \m/
Really nice review! Although this lead me to wonder how this little beast compares to its big brother 6505? I know how 5150 bands sound like and I think 6505 bands sound the same, but in this review the mini didn't sound like those bands (maybe the gear, settings and such though, the bands being pretty riff based fast metal). Also how do EL84s compare to 6L6GC which 6505 has? EL84 makes me think of EL34 more than 6L6GC and I know those two have difference in sound, I would describe them like EL34 to be more british while 6L6GC being more american and that's the difference between let's say Peavey and Marshall.
Could you maybe include some comparison between these two (and/or the power tubes) in some future Peavey video? This would really much decide if I would buy the mini instead of saving for 6505! The mini had so many useful features though and being a mini there's definitely some pros so I would love to know how 6505 and the mini compare! Thanks Chappers & Capt!
When Rob plugged in the CAP10, OH MY LAWD THE TONEZ!
i think the capt is using his modded strat from one of the challenges.
nice shirt Rob!
This is like Christmas for me :-) Been waiting for you guys to demo the Peavey 5150 (6505) for the past 5 years!! Bought my Peavey 5150ii (6505+) back in 2000 and never looked back...still my main amplifier til this day! Much more versatile amp than most give it credit for. You get downright awesome blues/classic rock tones from the crunch channel and one of the best hard rock/heavy metal tones on the market from the lead channel! This little monster captures the tones of its big brother perfectly.
Is it ok to play it at home with a strat or les Paul traditional?
I've had this amp for a couple months now and I can say now that it's phenomenal. I also have a 5150 2x12 but this is easily just as good. Slightly different overall but it's got it's own character. Reliability has been rock solid. As for the output switch I think the 5 watt mode is the sweet spot for bedroom use. I rarely use the 1 watt unless I'm really trying to be quiet but the 5 watt mode retains a lot more character of the 20 watt mode where I feel the 1 watt mode sacrifices a bit too much. That said, it still sounds phenomenal in all settings. Just don't dial out the midrange because that's where the bite is, but that's a mistake you shouldn't make on any amp, especially the 5150/6505 family amps.
would it be able to handle small gigs?band rehearsals?
+Luca C. Easily. It's got more than enough for rehearsals and shows. It may not have the headroom of the full heads but it's got more than enough to gig with in my opinion
How is the quality of recordings from its DI?
+Abhishek Gaur passable. It's ok from a perspective of throwing down a riff idea or recording something real quick, but it's still clearly a direct input which isn't the best thing in the world. Mine is mic'd up with an Audix i5 which is obviously much better, but in a pinch the direct recording output isn't bad. It's not the worst I've ever heard by far but I think that's just the nature of direct outputs. They're nice for practicing and demo recordings but you're going to want to mic it up.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the 6505 and the 6505+ all have 6L6 power output tubes. I find I like the bass response of 6L6 better. Why would they put EL84 in the circuit instead of 6V6? Just my opinion but the 6V6 would have gave it a more American sound. This is more like the Peavey 6534 which is the old van halen 5150 but with EL34 tubes to get a more British sound.
8:18 if you'd rather hear the amp....................
I actually think the amp sounds better with the Duncan loaded CAP-10
Man the CAP-10 is a killer machine and very versatile, I love it. I've been playing on it for only three months but it seams more, it's a romance. Love the guitar. Coming from a Les Paul I would say that a shorter and thinner neck could be better for me but doesn't bother me too much and if I had to make a custom one I would probably move a bit the knobs but yeah, that just nitpicking. I will certainly change the tuners also for locking ones very soon.
This one or the Hughes&Kettner Tubemeister 18??
btw, your videos are not only informative, but also very entertaining and fun to watch :)
Slumber! The Peavey has A LOT more gain
Agreed
I found a sweet looking Peavey Classic 100 for $300. I'm not metal, I mostly play rhythm and sing. I'm not sure if I'll like it.
I've never had 100 amps of pure noise. What to do. What to do! :)
Yes, were mostly adults. Why didn't you just put a warning up? Please let's don't go politically correct
all of a sudden!
You PC brah?

+hemminatorrssh Hell no!
Just about every player from my generation had a Peavey rage 158 :(
anonymous dumbfuk1976 awesome amp
Miss the red stripe
And so many also started with a Washburn WR-150 to play through it. Haha
I wish i had a rage 158. But i had a Gorilla amp lol. Actually wish I still had it
anonymous dumbfuk1976 I still have it lol
rage 158 silver stripe!!
When I was doing a lot of gigging a few years ago, I bought an inexpensive Peavey Valveking VK100 head as a backup to my main amp, Carvin X100B. I love that Peavey amp! Sounds fantastic.
Hi Rob. I'm so desperate to buy this amp, but will it be heard unmic'd at small pub gigs and rehearsals? And the complication is that I play metal. This is very important for me, but I cannot find any realiable info anywhere. Would really apreciate a reply from you and also other viewers, who know what they are talking about.
Man these are probably the best tones Ive heard out of this channel and that strat didnt sound half bad with that strat. also that riff the captain played with the harmonics was killer
There is something i dont yet understand. Does this amp give you the same sound / tone as the normal 6505 head but just a lower volume? people have been telling me diffrent things. some say the sound quality is lower on these kind of cheaper versions of amps and others tell me its just lower wattage (less sound volume). can someone please make this clear to me for once :c
Thnx :D
ROB. You are a GEAR GOD, and KILLER PLAYER, no question. I must say though that I've played this little head through a standard peavey cab and it had just way more bass than the 57 is picking in this vid IMHO. I realize an SM57 would be used in standard recording, but perhaps putting a second mic on the cab with better bass response on to better convey just how much low/thump/head crushing/krunch comes out of this little head would be handy? or for Future bits?
TechWith Todd not to be that guy, but does this micro head give that "djent" sound? if you dial it obviously...?
Yup. I did a review on my youtube channel where you can hear the djenty goodness :)
I have to admit that sometimes I watch your videos only to cheer up a little bit, I love video editing. Review also. Great amp :D
i'm just about to buy the combo version of this
I’m debating between this amp or the EVH 5150 iii , basically the price and watts I’m determining but both sound great and this amp for a 20w still sounds like it packs a punch.
I small gig with it but mostly home use. Any inputs ?
Go with the 6505.. and honestly the 6505 plus combo specifically. It's got a better clean channel and you get reverb, AND it's cheaper. The 5150 3 sounds over-gained in the preamp and lacks the warmth/brown-ness of the 6505 imho. They are quite brittle and harsh in the high end. A 6505 is actually an infinitely more versatile amp than how most people use it. I mean just listen to those blues tones Lee got. Legit.
wish there was two speaker out puts. im down with the 2x12.. but would be even cooler if i could run 2- 1x12s instead of one 2x12 cab.. point being if i only want to take 1x12 but have the option to add another.
"One does bottomy things, and one does toppy things..." I freaking love these guys...
Lee Marvin sang Wandering Star in Paint Your Wagon
I got a 6505+ the 120 watt version at a pawnshop in san Antonio texas which they were selling for parts for $150 and all it needed was the back fuse casing and the fuse !!!😁👍
Pantera's Official live shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You sir are a true elegant gentleman!! and the little amp is devastating!! Cheers from Morocco!!!
i'm going to get the 5150 lbx instead.. because of Peavey... Retailers have ordered peavey amps and not received them.. There is a video made by a smaller retailer that he had a lot of peavey amps ordered and half never arrived and this was at the same time as they closed down the factories because that didn't have enough amps ordered... doesn't make sense.. also the service at Peavey....
Holy shit! This little fucking amplifier is fucking.. not bad! #fuckcensorship . Dude, there is a really expressive meanings in profanity you can't find in normal words :(. what a shame that there are some people get offended by such expressive words!
Hey Lee, it appears in the intro or outro, can't remember, that Andertons stocks JHS pedals. I was just wondering how come you've never done a demo of any of them. You and I have very similar tastes when it comes to gear, and I am fairly certain you would completely dig some of their drive pedals. I also like the Twin Twelve and Thunderbolt, that emulate Silvertone and Supro amps respectively. Just wondering? Cheers! Keep up all the new types of videos, and Thank You for not doing away with the original!
+Brad Carroll bro, they did, look it up
14:46 - Squeal damn you!
And that's a fine sounding CAP-10!
It actually looks like there's fly fisting written on that blackboard.
great amp ...........BUT- No Master volume is quite a crappy thing to forget to install .... Instead they have 2 distortion dials. lol You can have distortion or More distortion, the louder you turn the ditortion the volume increases, highly dont like this feature. 1 master vol would have made this amp Tops imo. Set your sound then turn up.
Rob chapman, I'm either buying the Peavey 6505 mini head or the Blackstar HT-20 head. If you had to choose between those two which one would you get and why? Please help me out! Thanks
Rob before Andertons sold Peavey:
"The Delta was an unreliable piece of shit"
Rob since Andertons started selling Peavey:
"I loved the Delta"
+Erik Nyberg When has he talked about the delta before?
I love my Delta.
Erik Nyberg not trying to be a smart ass, but I've also had unreliable gear that I've loved the sound and functions of. When they DID work they were phenomenal.. very much a love/hate relationship when they didn't though hahaha.
Something i always want to hear is clean channel with the guitar volume on 10/full/max, if you roll back we dont really know what we get. Otherwise thank you for reviewing this and vk 20mh, perfect for me!
I have an EVH frankenstein pickup in a guitar I use with this amp. On the high gain channel, set the pre gain to around 11-12 oclock and you're in brown sound heaven :)
This amp sounds absolutly br00tal!
can you review the Randall RD20 and RD45 ?
It's Lee Marvin, dude.
Great review. Thanks
13:29 cheeky bit of flash flood!!
Lee Marvin from Paint your Wagon.... Clint Eastwood sing as well... different song..
God it reminds me of the Peavey Classic65 I had when I was a much younger lad. I AB'de it with a HiWatt custom50 OMG!!! Again equipment I NEVER should have got rid of AAARRRGH... HiWatt was Holykrap expensive even back then too. Someone just asked me how much$$$ it was back then/when.And it was Peavey U.S.A.. Somewhere along the way we lost the Recipe
WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT YOU GUYS THINK OF THE NEW SUBWOLFER PEAVEY CAME OUT WITH TO ADD BOTTOM END, SOUNDS MASSIVE, MORE THEN A 4X12, THAT COULD BE A COOL VIDEO, THE SUB VS A 4X12
Own this amp. I got the head for 200 dollars off and couldn't pass it up. Kinda disappointed with it after 2 years. I just don't get the hype.
that intro sounded like the narration from baldurs gate :P
That CAP10 sounds fatter and heavier than the Gibson IMO ;)
Some nice tones have always been achievable from most peavey amps but always had a bit too much fizz on the gain channels for my personal taste. Rob you seem to love your Gibson. Seriously look into a crimson custom guitars. I just got hold off one and it makes my les Paul seem like a bit of a cheap and dirty tool.
Turned back down to 480p because.... I just don't need to see the intricate details of their arm hair that much...
Come on put that switch to the bridge pickup! It's made to play metal and forget about single coils!!!
Hi, do you have any problem about overheat? I read something about this on pvy forums and i don't know if buy it :/.
I am surprised Peavey has not attempted to remove this video from the internet....sorry guys, but this is a horrible demonstration of how this amp sounds. Just hearing it sound this bad has convinced me never to buy one.
Dayuuum....just bought the Amplifire, and then you show this...
2:42 Ha, homeboy got his drunk ass fired because he showed up to NAMM wasted outta his mind.
In real life this amp is really noisy and buzzes a lot which really bothers me. I've tried it and I'm just not a fan.
By "funky" I think he means to say "crappy" foot switch. I love Peavey and own one but those switches are crap and don't stand up to use. I bought a better aftermarket that's a more solid metal box. Better than that crappy cheap plastic one
Michael Moniz Can you please tell me the name of it? I need one myself...
It was just some no name switch I found on ebay. Just search for "peavey footswitch" and you should see peavey compatible ones come up as part of the search.
Thanks, mate :)
Those blues tones are miles above what I remember being able to get with my 2x12 6505... Very nice.
I love how the Captain has access to essentially every new guitar that costs more than my car, and yet, he still chooses to use his modded Squier. Lol it's awesome.
Josh32 It's like "bro, esp, jackson, prs". And sorry Chappers but those guitars are ugggly!
Nice sounding amp, but why do Peavey still issue those shitty pound shop footswitches?
They start playing at 8:27.
too bad People dont give much Attention to Peavey guitars...they are actually sooooo good..
Lee Marvin sung Wandering Star.
Lee Marvin was a Badass!!! Not really because of that song, from a movie he did, but because of his general 'don't give a fuck' attitude. I do like the the song, and relate heavily to it.
Bandit 112 vs Marshall Valvestate 8080. OOh!
(I had an 8080.)
