TRAILER TROUBLE!!! A LITTLE OFF THE RIGHT SIDE..

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I take our flagship Peterbilt 389-X, Miller Industries, Century 1150R heavy rotator towing and recovery unit to help out a customer and driver who had a little bit of a problem with a trailer. I'm not sure what happened, other than the trailer came loose from the truck when the driver went to turn. This incident had traffic throughout the facility rerouted to single lane in and out on the inbound side due to this one blocking the only outbound lane. When the trailer came loose, it became stuck in the frame of the truck. You will see it jump when I break it free. No injuries and I didn't notice any damage, so best case, other than a bit of inconvenience for a little while for the warehouse and possibly the driver. Hey, we all make mistakes and we all have THOSE days. This was minor in the Grand scheme of things, as they say. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Another safe and professional job done by a professional tow company
I love watching Ron work. It really is artistry. Some of these other tow crews on youtube, I'm a nervous wreck until no one gets hurt. None of that here. Just pure, relaxed edutainment.
That driver learned a very important lesson that night. Always do a tug test and get under the trailer to physically look at the jaws on the 5th wheel. I can bet he will never make that mistake again.
Or do a tug test. It is much easier.
Autocorrect from "tug test" or do you call it something else? Looks kinda like he might have high pinned it, which might survive a tug test, but reveal itself the first time you turn. But yeah, a visual test would reveal that issue too.
tug* test :-)
Better yet, get out and look at the trailer alignment _before_ you get all the way under it. Much easier to fix a height issue before you've overrun your fifth wheel plate. If necessary, get a yard driver to pick up on it so you can adjust the landing gear.
I know that I didn’t
Tuesday morning treat!!!!!!
Love how Ron only does something in a safe professional manner. I wish there was more company’s in the world we could count on that from. Absolutely amazing Mr Pratt. Keep it up! 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
YOURS is the ONLY channel I clicke the LIKE and stuff BEFORE I even look to see what the video is about!!! :) GREAT job as usual. LOVE MY DAILY TATOR!!! :)
We always love the "Tuesday extras."
The consummate professional saves the day once again. Stay safe and God bless. :-)
OMG @Ron Pratt uploaded on a Tuesday just made my day so much better. Thank you so much. Can't wait to see what Friday's episode is
You can almost bet on it being a big job.
OOO, A Tuesday Treat. Thanks Ron.

Tuesday bonus video! 🎉
No injuries except to the drivers pride, best possible outcome
Thank you for a Tuesday treat! Hope that pin stays locked in this time around. I did pick the right chains in advance, but never heard you ask the driver the weight of the trailer as in empty or full.
The weight of the trailer nose was less than 30,000 pounds, which Ron already knew.
When I was working for Alamo Transportation in Memphis, I missed the king pin and when I pulled out, the trailer dropped down. Luckily, the trailer was empty and on the cement pad and we were able to use two lift trucks to raise the nose.
Just a little picker upper. And, away he goes. Thanks for getting under there making sure he was hooked.
Have a blessed day Mr. Pratt and thanks for the bonus video on this Tuesday morning.
Always check your trailer height _before_ you back completely under it. It's always easier to lower it a bit than to try to get it back over the fifth wheel.
Agreed, I almost always try to make sure the landing gear will come off the ground when I back under the trailer. That way when you do a tug test it’s not putting a bind on the landing gear.
I would always look for the trailer to lift a little as I backed under it. If not, I would get out and crank up the landing gear to lower the trailer on to the fifth wheel.
I enjoy watching your work i find it interesting also i am really impressed with how you are always respectful to others im 71yrs and live in the land downunder (Australia)
I like your videos when you work alone.
nothing like watching a Ron Pratt video on my Birthday.
Morning Ron.. What nice Blessing! A surprise Monday video. Thank you for another great video. May God bless you and watch over you, and both your personal and work families!
Bonus video day from Ron, best way to spend mu lunch breaks
Sorry if this is a bit late, but congrats on reaching the half-million mark in subscribers! You are definitely my favorite recovery-video channel. And if I am correct, the only one that has a "rolling" recovery unit.
Another good video, no traffic to worry about, no overhead power lines. Just a quick recovery to get this fella back on his way. Stay safe and healthy!
He don't care about you comment
@charliesli6751 And how would you know that I don't care? Very presumptuous of you. I can speak for myself, thank you. Welcome to the channel. Understand, however, this is a POLITE and Family-friendly channel. If that's not what you are looking for then, I hope you can find it elsewhere. God bless.
I enjoyed it.
Ohhhhh!!!! Tuesday bonus video!!! Stay safe and God bless
#wherestalon
First time first …. Love the videos.
Always do a tug test in an attempt this from occurring. It doesn't mean that you may not have a problem with the 5th wheel prevented it from locking all the way. Still, no one hurt. Ron is quick to get the job done. I always enjoy your videos.
Should have made the steering wheel holder do the crank of shame. What a pro doing him a solid Ron.
Yes. Lol. That looked like something the driver could have fixed on his own with just a little cranking.
Threading the needle Ron mate tugg tests always recommend
I like these mid week bonus videos!
Ron, you and your team are awesome. It's great to see another generation to continue the business.
Ron you make it look so dang easy although i know it isnt by any means at all ! Thanks for letting us ride along with you on these adventures Sir ! Stay Safe out there ! ✌️❤️🙏
Somebody didn't do a tug test did they. Trailer was in such a position he couldn't do the crank of shame.. Ron Pratt saves the day.
Well in a yard there is no 70 mph traffic whizzing past, good job
Ron, I never fail to be really impressed with your skill and mastery of the rotator’s controls. Feeding the boom between the front of the trailer and the back of the truck cab(in the dark,as well !!) was a star turn. I can ALWAYS find time to watch your vids!! Stay Safe, Best Wishes Roy W UK
🎉yay a 'tator Tuesday upload

Always a pleasure watching you guys work.
Thank you for this video
Another EAZY PEAZY recovery! Stay safe!
Always fun to watch and learn.
Great Recovery Ron. Nothing beats sticking your head under the trailer to see that the locking lever is properly locked around the trailer kingpin, & that you haven't over shot the 5th wheel during a high hook.. Thank God this happened in the parking lot instead of the freeway.
Thanks for the video, really love watching you channel, especially with a bonus video.
Great job as always !!! 👍🏻

Great job Ron
Well done. Ron! Stay safe!
Oh dear...I gather we forgot to do a "tug test" and eyeball inspection before raising the landing gear? I'm gonna try not to judge or denigrate the guy, but I'm guessing he was either in a hurry, or became complacent. Or maybe he wasn't entirely awake? Hopefully he's learned a valuable lesson. At least it happened in a yard and not out on a busy public road, where people could have been hurt. Personally, I always did a tug test and eyeball check very first thing, before even hooking up the lines, and then a thorough PTI as soon as I've pulled away from the dock or parking space and have room to work. Always carried spare marker lights and such, too, for replacing anything that's faulty right then and there. You can save a whole of time and hassle (and money) if you do things properly and spend just a couple extra minutes at the beginning. Glad Ron was able to get this fella squared away pretty quick.
Another wonderful job done there Ron
When I dropped mine, at least I was empty, by myself & to stubborn to call for help.
Cranked on the landing gear until I was tried, let the air down, backed in as far as I could, then cranked until I was tired, aired it back up & repeated 3-4 times. Never did it again.
And didn’t tell anyone else until now.
Best way to do it. 😊 don't worry, we won't tell anyone 😉
It happens. I've under-run a few trailers in my time. USUALLY no biggie.
However, I once did have a 5th wheel let go on a hard bounce up at the intersection intersection of I-5 and I-405 north of Seattle, 4PM, July 3rd, and 55mph. (note the time and date) 70K lbs of Japanese cast iron hibachis all loaded in the front of a 20' can. After smashing my air tanks and bending my frame, it leaped out and hit the pavement sparks from the landing gear and huge black clouds from the dynamited tires on the trailer. In a second I was alone in the middle of rush hour holiday traffic-the 4-wheelers vanished like a cloud of gnats. I sure made the evening news. No direct injuries although one lookie-loo managed to flip his car on the Johnson about 3-4 miles back trying to see what was the jam about.
I didn't know the 5th wheel was oddly damaged. The tongue let go. It was not my truck. But I would like to pass on a hint. It is not always good enough to do a hard tug test and visual inspection. If you're not sure, use your pry bar and try to lift the tongue up in a dry-locked position to see if it will let go.
Good job 👍
Ron got another driver out of a tough situation! Good job Ron!
You made that one look too easy Ron.
A nice quick easy job. I want to say Good job Ron you got it fixed & back on the road in no time. Be careful out there God bless
Looks like someone forgot to do the tug test , but it's either very early or very late & everyone makes mistakes .. lol , just glad my mistakes don't end up on You-Tube
Solid video Ron, no fluff and drama. Best one since dragging a car out the self storage with a flatbed.
God bless you and yours ✝️ stay safe out there 👍 awesome job Mr Ron thanks for sharing
Another successful mission Ron
I injoy your videos. I am a diesel mechanic ,but have done all sorts of jobs.
Threading the needle with the boom nice work awesome vid thanks for posting
Thank you so much for the video God bless you I love your videos
Ron i watch your videos a lot and you and your are awesome. I have noticed that several times have spreaders bar would help out in the lifts. I would suggest three. One long bar and two shorter ones. I have been a rigger in my youth and the use of the bars have many uses. Thank you for your hard work
Driver Era. 😅😅
Awesome video thanks for sharing
Beautiful Ron 👍❤️
Nice work
Wow! Great!
Hi Ron, great job and I was wondering how you bill your jobs. The complexity of the recovery, the time spent on the job. I don't need to know how much $ just how they are charged because that job was quick and simple.👍
as far as i can tell each wrecker has an hourly rate ( bigger the wrecker , bigger the hourly rate ) .. plus callout , plus hazmat
$$$ per hour many $$$ per hour
Another thing the $$$ per depends on how much equipment is used $$$
It’s just $$$ & it’s not my $$$
I dropped a trailer) embarrassing to the extreme ( My 5th wheel was worn out still embarrassing.
I think usually for heavy towing you'll have a flat fee just to show up no matter how long the job takes. Also have charges per mile, and hourly cost for each piece of equipment and one operator. Complex jobs that need additional crew beyond the operators get extra charges too of course.
Frequent customers, or small fleets may have negotiated rates/flat fees for specific services from tow companies.
Hourly port to port plus any extra things like a skid steer or landol
I went to a trucker school and first thing we learn when pinning a trailer is to do a tug test.
What always surprise me is that there is not a one button command to retract the out riggers but you have to manually got to lift then retract each of them one by one.
There is. Ron chooses to extend them that way because if they all extend at once, they go very slowly as the hydraulic pumps only put out a certain pressure, and if you share the pressure, each endpoint gets less of it. He's mentioned this not very recently, but it does seem like a design weakness Miller could/should be fixing on a unit as expensive as this.
Its a safety issue. They are pinch points and Miller want to make sure the operator is in command so nothing goes wrong.
It's probably an intentional safety feature. Imagine hitting the wrong button and retracting the outriggers whilst having a load suspended on the boom! That would not be a good time!
It's a safety feature so you can control the level of the truck as you sit it back down . Otherwise the truck could be off level during the process
@@MGower4465 I seen to remember him talking about that in a video.
Another job well done Ron
Great job. Would like to see more
