THE "NOT A CONTAINER", CONTAINER LIFT WAIT... WHAT???

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I take our flagship Peterbilt 389-X, Miller Industries, Century 1150R heavy rotator towing and recovery unit on a LONG journey....to our parking lot, to unload and unusual "container". When the job was called in, we were told that we were supposed to unload a 20' long sea container (conex) box which was loaded with household goods and weighed less than 12,000 lbs (5443 kgs). Upon its arrival we find that this is NOT a standard shipping container and we will have to change our plans. There is also no way to no for certain how much the box weighs or what it's COG (Center Of Gravity) is. That is, until we lift it and find that it weighs almost 20,000 lbs (9072 kgs), not the 12,000 lbs we were told it would or should be. This may seem simple, but one wrong calculation or one incorrect rigging point and we could lose the whole thing. What is going to happen? I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

You need a special "bopper" tool to remind Gavin every time he doesn't have his hardhat on. Just give him a gentle "bop" on the head before he hits it on something harder. 🤣
Pool Noodle...
Better option would be to have one surgically attached.
A whack-a-mole mallet!
It's always harder when you have rethink your strategy when you're doing a job, but you always stay safe while doing it. You guys always work together as a team, Ron. God Bless you guys in all that you do.
Great seeing Kenny helping teach the younglings too.
Interesting scenario... 'Not a container', container... and loaded way heavier than declared... At least Ron was prepared for anything and everything...
Get er done..!!! and that you all do..Love your videos and all that you and your crew does..Stay safe and may God keep you all safe always..
Anytime it's a safe and successful job it's always a win ! Good job to all involved there Ron !
Looks like a pod container.
Could also be one those portarage (portable garage)
It is a storage unit. I delivered these types of units. You went through the trouble of lifting when you could have just used your rollback. It would have rolled off the truck.
This is how we loaded and unloaded them with a rollback.
People use these because there cheaper the going to a storage place far from home.
There easier with moving also. You can move you stuff and not have to hurry and unload. Keep it until your done or have the monthly fee like any other storage units.
Safety Comes First Allways
The rigging is tremendous! Basically a trade in itself.
Especially when kids think that they will not be using the maths that that should be learning in school.
My dad used to say that the starting point is math. Physics is applied math. Engineering is applied physics.
Ron, Gavin, Kenny and Dalton, nice job guys! You conquered the "not a container." Stay safe out there!!
Did you see the video of the car hitting the down ramp of the tray truck, at speed? Apparently didn't notice them working on an accident on the highway. Apparently it was in Florida. Video released yesterday.
That one was hairy. If the container wasn't loaded evenly, it could have caused more trouble. By the way, love watching your video's, from Victoria Australia. Don't miss one. Great start to the weekend.
I saw that video on the news in south Australia and was like geez that is not good
@@southaussiegarbo2054 Demolished the cab of the truck.
I saw that video (thought it was Georgia though), no excuse for the driver not paying attention but it didn't look like the tow operator had any cones out or lights on their truck?
She's lucky to still be alive. Police said she flew 102 ft in the air.
@@thryduulf it was Georgia
Hope we get a part 2 as to what happens with that box!
Ron, a thought, on your firehose - add a couple of short straps/ropes to secure them once they are rapped around the slings. This will to slip without falling off. As always great video!
Kenny is one of my favorites of the Midwest Truck crew. Hopefully, family will follow.
You guys did a great job again as usual. Have a blessed day.
Good morning Ron. Have a great weekend
If he cuts hair short hard hat won't fall off
I know Ron is a good guy if not he is a great guy to get you know and work with but with Ron all about safety I would figure proper hair cut to keep a hard hat on your head would be at hand when it come to safety and being safe
It does my head. I need a chin strap to keep it on
Ron had to be a osha inspector in a previous life! 😂😂 lol
Full crew! Much needed on this job. Great job by everyone!
Ron. I just heard my dad. “ Don’t scratch that paint”😂😂😂
It helps to have a good team of people. That was a task that could have been a lot tougher. Always be safe.
Neat video. All the gear, man power, activity. Thank you
The slings we had a work for picking up the mining trucks had a sleeve already on the slings to keep protection on the ends. Of course the slings were much bigger and we hauled them in a big wooden box because sometimes they were used outside
A container ?? That's bigger than any container I'm aware of. Great organized job, as always. GOD BLESS and be safe !!!
Glad to hear your finger is healing. Thanks be to God for healing.
Good video Ron and guys... Good to see you all not on the highway... and nice to see Kenny, Dalton and Gavin...!
The ARFF Truck, with foam, put a fast attack on that fire,
Great job as always , thanks
Good morning Ron up here in Canada we call those shipping container a pods they are mainly used for doing household moves
Thanks for your time Ron an all 😊
Given that you weren't sure of the weight and where the CoG was, would using both spreader bars and main lines been a better option?
LOL talking about your Larry the cale guy ringtone, i got to see him live when he came to my town about 13 years ago
I like watching your videos and the information I get from it. I'm not sure why you can't get employees to stay with your company. I know you like to teach and to make sure everyone is safe, but you tell the same people the same things at every scene you are on. I am sure it would be nice to have Mike back on the road with you. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there. Don't want any of my friends picking you up alongside the road !!
Awesome job Ron You and the guys an awesome job
🌟 With all those slings, you need better organization. How about getting some mesh bags that cinch shut and place each length of sling into one bag with a label. So when needing two 20 foot slings, all you need to do is grab the 20 foot bag and not sort through half of the inventory!
That seemed unorganized for you Ron. I pray all is well.
Great job! Y’all stay safe.
Pretty impressive Ron you guys always get er done.👍🇺🇸
Great job brother!
Ron get r done. God bless you and your family
I know I'm late to this video, but I just wanna say as someone who also has to occasionally wear hard hats for work, I feel your pain Gavon. No matter how I adjust mine, the dang thing never wants to stay on either.
Hery Ron, some very important info for you. i was watching an RV recovery on another channel and i wanted to share some info for your safety.
RV's these days are being equipped with much higher battery capacities than in the past and many will have converters that supply 120 VAC(household power) throughout the RV even while on road. There also may be solar panels on the roof supplying power to the RV after you have disconnected the batteries or the batteries have been destroyed in an accident. the solar panels my still be supplying power to the dc- ac converter which can still supply that 120 VAC throughout the RV.
this can all be a concern in a catastrophic accident where you maybe cutting wires and picking up pieces of the RV
Be careful out there!
In my mind I imagined you using both spreader bars, one for each line so that you can control the container better. I don't remember you using both in a video or maybe I did not pay attention. I know it is extra setup time, but might be faster to lift.
I do kind of remember watching both being used at least twice, a video set up for a fair and fishing some car from a deep ditch. There is probably some other ones but drawing a blank at this time.
That is a moving Pod style container. There is a specialty trailer for those with a matching self propelled gantry crane.
Ron, right now especially, I’m keeping the folks in Nova Scotia in my prayers due to the wildfires there affecting our air quality. Please keep them in your prayers.
God bless you and your family and friends stay safe out there
Have you ever thought about carrying a small whiteboard and some markers in the rotator to do a quick "tailboard training" to draw and explain your rigging plan to your crews that are still learning the "ropes"? Some people are visual learners.
Thank you so much for the video please post more videos a week God bless
Best greetings from Germany .
You guys rock get er done. Please be safe God Bless.
That looked like a backwards loaded trailer with fork lift on the front end and box on the back great video and great job with the wrecker and God bless from GA and stay safe
just as well the trailer was organised that way , otherwise they would have been lifting a box of unknown weight & CoG over the Fork Lift ... not a good option
Ron please take care of your self great job
Thank you that was short and sweet. Nice outro
Enjoyed watching you
Weird ending to an video but totally unexpected to the weight, like jeepers.
Well that was an interesting lift & 20k# that's ALOT of weight!
In England we have a saying : many hands make light work .
In merica the same proverb : git er done ✅
Hey, Gavin Ductape, works good as a chin strap. 😂
Nice job guys love your videos
i love your video's and like your way of training the guys .
Looks like a POD container with out being a POD container. Wonder if the standard question will be now with containers involved. Is this a standard international shipping container or a unique local container.🙂
😂😂 hi Ron yea sorry us here in CA we say container (when it's clearly not) great Job
4k content is nice when on a 5k monitor watching in full screen, not as pixelated as 1080, content is top notch no matter the resolution though :)
Seem like they didn't know the difference between 12k and 20k! Good teamwork getting it unloaded!
Thanks Ron.
Mike M.
19 plus 26 an the litl box I’d say frighted…haha 😂😂
That is a Pod moving container pod is a portable storage company
Good job
Have a great weekend Ron
After several reminders about the hard hat, you might offer to rivet it on.
If it's the hair that the problem, threaten to have it shaved off for charity.
Watching from Europe it’s always surprising that the US is so far behind in not using truck mounted Hiab type cranes.
Gavin neds to glue his hat to his hair ;-) (or grow his hair long enough so he can tie it over the top to keep the hat on...)
I told you every time I watch a video with Gavin in it the poor guy looses his hard hat 😂. I hope Ethan is liking school. 👍. As always thank you Ron for the video look forward to the next one. God bless.
Actually if y’all wore metro fire helmets you’d have straps and a visor that would give more head protection than a hard hat plus they would look cool with your logo in front instead of fd logo just a thought
In the spring of ‘08 I messed up my left thumb.
The worst thing was buttoning my pants.
Thank you for the video. Thank you Sir
YES!!!! I have now broken a finger on my right hand and my left hand this year. I am in a winning streak. LOL. I'm just glad they were minor and I could still do what I needed to do. Thank you for watching and God bless.
Is good. Hi Ron, it was assumed 12,000 lbs when it was 20,000 lbs. If it was more weight would you have used another lift cable one on each side?
I guess it was difficult to 'contain' your surprise when you saw the 'container'. Nevertheless, another mis-described job done well with the usual team effort. Greetings from the UK. God bless.
Ised that he dudnt say "Thats not a container box, that looks like the box that containers come in".
Yes, I know that is not real thing), but it would make me smile. Ron is such a nice guy.
Did everyone see the car jump the rollback in Georgia?
The team got a mystery box today. What is it? How much does it weigh? COG? Slow and steady wins the race.
To me the twist was created by the 2 20 footers being uneven, by which I mean the ends coming up from each fork pocket were different lengths causing each side to be more of a scalene than an isosceles triangle. Would you agree Ron?
As always, a well executed job, with the expectation that it may not be what you were told, re CoG and weight.
Good to see you older guys passing on some of your knowledge and skills to the future old guys
Every time Ron says Dalton’s name I think of the movie Roadhouse.
Ron there are so many pieces of the puzzle it is hard to remember which order they go in. But somehow you manage to make sense of it all. There is a Midwest Truck Manual on how to make all this work correctly? Haha!
I left my hard hat at the house🤣
Good morning Ron Pratt
I'm thinking maybe put some wire ties around the firehose to make sure the firehose is around the straps.
Thosetorn tendons can be rough my friend was playing tug o war with his mastiff when the pup gave a hard twisting shake and regained his hold on the toy catching that finger up in it and tearing the tendon of his finger two surgurys later and almost a year of therapy and its finally working better a little.
The customer didn't lie. It was 12,000 LBS LOL.
Configuring the spreader bar? Why have the it on the ground, the guys have to squat down to do the work? Why not raise it up to chest level? It would be easier?
finger still wrrapped in a blanket as I see
in germany it is a way to minimize cost but fulliy illegal and you have to proof the dispacher that the customer is wrong. i would make an extra charge for false declaration of the weights
It's a hybrid rolloff container 😮
Watched
All started out interesting but there was no real ending. What was next?
Like your videos, family was originally from the Altenburg area ,and a late uncle, Kenneth or Gene from Wappello. I never liked a hard hat either, UNTIL, one day I was hauling concrete to BJC in St Louis Mo!! The 2nd return load to a Crane bucket, I noticed the laborers ears looked kinda weird, while I was gone a 3x4 sheet of plywood blew off the 8th floor landed on his hard hat after hitting the outhouse and pushed his hard hat almost over his ears!! If not wearing one he probably wouldn't have made it!! A quick question, does Miller Industry's, maker of the rotator have rigging classes, and training for their clients?? I hauled concrete for 30+yrs and Dad had a backhoe co as a kid, seeing things that someone is going to get hurt bad, not listening, not paying attention, or no clue what's going on. Dad was a HARD teacher, you done what you was told once, twice maybe 3times you went to truck and dealt with later, not pretty without cast iron undies!! But it was for a reason, to KEEP US ALIVE AND OTHERS, and from hurting OTHERS , we where NEVER allowed to talk to a operator until his hands where off the controls. NOT CRITICIZING just trying to keep people SAFE, and not going through life as a cripple, and your insurance writer will thank you after watching things. We had people videoing us all the time for insurance writers at Busch stadium, Fed building Rams dome , which is just some of the big stuff we where on..
It seems to be human nature when loading stuff by hand into a big box or container, to deal with the heavy stuff first,. If it has to be by hand, then they should put the heavy stuff in a strip nose to tail down the centre and the lighter stuff on either side and then the lightest on top of all that stuff. If load bracers are available, the heavy stuff could be put 1/2 in the nose, 1/2 on the tail.
Either way it could have been, you guys didd a good job of dealing with what you found in any case.
Hey Ron on the fire horse's y dont u punch holes through them and use plastic ties to make sure that they dont fall off the slings
It looks like a pods box
Or he needs to tighten the knob on the back of the hardhat. Lol.
Hey Ron, I am back as subscriber after quitting for a year because of the “cool cowboy hat” video.
🙏👍
