Nutrition research aims to be unbiased, but still leaves most people confused. In this interview, we fact-check nutritional claims and shed light on the latest nutrition research, diets, and intermittent fasting studies.
My quest is Dr. Gil Carvalho - a physician, research scientist, science communicator, speaker and writer. He is a medical doctor with PhD in Biology and has published peer-reviewed medical research in genetics, molecular biology, nutrition, behavior, aging, and neuroscience.
Dr. Carvalho aims to bust nutritional myths with balanced science-based approach, investigating the truth behind nutrition and health. He evaluates the quality of the evidence, it's applicability to humans, and the research methods, and comes into a un-biased conclusion. He discusses his findings and ideas on his educational channel Nutrition Made Simple on UA-cam.

When doing Intermittent Fasting say 16/8, in that 8 hr eating window, I'm only eating two meals per day so it is less calories while Fasting (IF) and that works for me and many others. If I want to melt fat fast, I'll workout Fasted. My take-away, does not work for everyone, or every body!
Yes I think this is exactly what Dr Carvalho was referring to. That large amount of the fasting benefits for weight loss specifically comes from the reduction of the calories. I noticed the same. Since I started fasting 7 years ago, I lost 6 kg (13 pounds) and that never came back. No dieting or calorie counting. I did not start it for weight loss because I’ve always been normal weight but still resulted in weight loss “accidentally “.

Interesting. What is longevity? I'm 75. I am not on medications except thyroid. I went through all types of eating habits. We ate home cooked meals, canned vegetables, lots of meat. I was always athletic as much as a woman could be back then. The British music invasion brought Twiggy and crash diets. Atkins came in my 20s. If that worked wouldn't people my age be trim and slim? Then there was fast food. Then weight watchers. Etc. Etc. I ate horribly. I ate very healthy. I am now basically plant based. My sister is keto. Do what you can to live with long term I guess.
Longevity is equal to lifespan but it's also used for describing health span.
Lifespan is something you'd consider from your birth to death (years)
Healthspan is something you'd consider to be your "healthy years" before you get disease or your health gets into a degree where you feel your life quality is significantly lowered.
