Yamaha SY35 Music Synthesizer (1992)
All sounds in this track are SY35 factory presets, including the drums. Most are from the "Internal" memory banks, which focus on synth sounds, with the bass in the verse coming from the "Preset" bank, which is aimed more at replicating acoustic instruments.
The SY35 was launched in 1992 and is effectively a hybrid of Yamaha's outgoing FM synthesizer technology with their new AWM sample-based engine, with 2 FM operators and 2 AWM oscillators. A joystick provides vector control to blend between the chosen waveforms in the patch in different ways, either by affecting their volume (Level) or their pitch (Detune).
Patches used:
drums = I88 DR:Kit
chorus brass synth = I53 BR*Fat
chorus bass synth = I51 BR*Punch
end chorus synth strings = I13 SP*Full!
chorus mellow synth = I22 SC*Elgnt
first chorus lead = I72 ME*Drama
end chorus lead = I38 SL*AnaSy
end chorus short notes = I32 SL:Squar
verse chords = I17 SP*Fog
verse bass = P53 BA*Slap
verse melody = I66 SE*Elect
verse bells = I24 SC*Coin
verse lead = I71 ME*Wide!
Programming new patches via the front panel is a fairly thankless task, but there is a good editor out there: ctrlr.org/sy35...

The SY35 is so solid, what a hidden gem
Great demo , of a underrated gem ⚡️
Nice intro, could have been a 80's John Carpenter Horror/Thriller movie 👍 😎
Sound like sci-fi groovy! 👊🏾💯
Synthwave heaven, very well executed indeed! Thank you for the effort and giving us this musical pleasure!
Beautiful track!
I have SY22 and SY35, SY55, SY77, SY85 and the Flagship SY99!
Thanks. That's quite a collection!
Great to hear it in use again - you do it justice ;) Aside from having a test of the SY-35 the sounds here in your track also reminded of the Roland D10 that I fixed up and sold on. Strangely enough wiki make a comparison between Rolands D series LA synths and and Yamahas SY series here (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_arithmetic_synthesis). While different, both are hybrid synthesis methods from that golden transitional age.
Interesting. I need to try out a Roland D series sometime. :)
Very nice demo. Love it Alfonse.
This keyboard was engineered by legendary Dave Smith ! So it’s One in a kind, quite secret 🤫 😊
Great sounding track! Love the sounds, the song and of course the sy35 👍😄
Thanks Fabio. I'm enjoying the SY35 myself - I'm hoping to do another video with custom patches, but need to actually take the time to make some...
@@alfonsemusic Great! Even if I've some recent keyboards at home I'm fascinated by this vintage keys, they sound pretty warm :)
My biggest problem is that I haven't enough space 😁
@@FabioFalcucci I know that problem well...
God I love your music, you are really an inspiration to me!
Very kind! Thanks for listening :)
Sounds great. 🙂
Fantastic demo
Great Video! Music like Stranger Things!
...or Turbo Kid!
Amazing deep synths, love it! Alfonse is keeping the little robot alive! 👏
I do my best to keep it happy
Nice!
Thanks Erik!
Very beautiful! Thx for bringing back such inspiring timbres.
Alfonse makes a track = we listen.
These feature a 2 op FM synth on par with the PSS 480-780.
There are some pretty good editors out there I hope to see you get ahold of and make more tracks!
Also the SY 22/TG-33 are different enough that you should try getting one of those models too! Some say they like the sound better.
Cheers Kenzie. Just need to find the time to sit down with an editor and make some decent patches, but I hope there will be a follow up video at some point. Interested to try the 22 as well, in that case.
🙂👍
I have a problem with Yamaha Sys 35, I can't get Midi to recognize me, I don't know if anyone can help me.
where did you get your little robot from ?, I want one...😃
I've had that one since the 80s... but you should be able to find them on ebay with luck
@@alfonsemusic thanks...🙂
