- Viewer's request - how to do the '80s doubled octave synth bass line
00:00 Introduction
00:25 Sequential Circuit Pro-One's built-in sequencer
03:02 Linn LinnDrum beat synchronized to the Pro-One's sequencer
03:40 Roland Jupiter-8 melody lines with BOSS DD-3 digital delay
05:21 Full mix ditty with all three machines
14:04 Conclusion
I know that was a "generic" song to demonstrate technique but that was an awesome tune.
Right? !!!
Like Koto meets Laserdance - I would have run to the store for the 12" in the 80ies!!! :D
absolutely beautiful
Back in the day, I though 80s music was so cheesy; but, this was a jam!
@@Zundaaa with a little bit of Alphaville's Sounds Like A Melody...
it takes a lot of energy to get these machines going and happy and working together, never mind jamming out something with all three, and performing without mistakes and setting up camera shots plus providing technical explanations. HUGE amount of work and great synth tunes. respect.
And then you go to edit and it's out of focus..
Yeah the sync part isn't THAT hard, in fact it's REALLY with pulses and with just three pieces of hardware, but playing it perfectly is the harder bit. Sounds good.
Waw.. this sounds more 80s than music sounded in the 80s. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and taste !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Crocket jumps in his testarossa...
Was thinking same thing lol...
my thoughts exactly... but I did prefer the Daytona... :)
Definitely had that sound. Was thinking the same thing.
Lol
Homer hits the streets on the couch
The youtube algorithm knows exactly who I am and what I enjoy.
I just took a screenshot of the comment for personal use, hope that's not a problem.
Me too!
@@nosville22 You have my full support.
You tube spy on everyone.
Synthmania is the king of octave funky basslines
This
Octave basslines are disco
Definatley their tunes are fab !
Reminds me of lazerdance.. I can never get enough of 80s ITALO.. SPACE.. DISCO.. thank you!
laserdance for the win. I think my favorite album is Technological Mind but Hypermagic is pretty close.
Better than Laserdance.
Sharper, more aggressive sound.
Don't forget Koto :)
@@MarshalRedDog SynthMania has the better Equipment, lol
...Laserdance used JX8P and Juno 106/60 for bass
The Pro-One and JP8 have more balls
Koto ;)
Music sounds like I’m installing a cracked software.
Awesome!
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
hahahhahaha =D=D=D=D nice
damn right LOL
You know the music played in cracks and keygens is loud and fun just to distract you while it deploys virus and loggers right?
ANSI demos
Could listen to this forever...
it is literally forever 😄😄😄
Same.
@@iSirTaki nice but sooooo long :)
Paolo is the King, he can make a full LP of the best Ítalo Disco, better than 80’s!!
Lord knows I'd buy an LP if he did one!
Been saying this for years!
This is how I wanted music in the 80's to sound like 👍👍
it takes me months to make something that doesnt sound like garbage and this mans pumps out this track in like an evening
Thats what 30-40 years of experience give you
Yeah the process is way more complicated now than ever. My 30-40 years of experience has only made things harder, albeit the quality is also more consistent in the end.
Not only is this channel the BEST for synth demos, you get to learn how to make sounds of the past & future! Thank you for all you do my friend!
Wow, thanks!
I have to agree. Your channel is pretty good too Rik! Mine is a synth novice channel and I go to guys like y’all to learn.
I totally agree @Rik Marston Official Paolo is the person who gave me the 80's synthesizer bug and now I often go to his channel to learn more. Take care, Sam.
@@SynthManiaDotCom hi! I want use your voise at _3:25_,and make song!🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
May i make it?????
Rik Martston beats me to all the videos that UA-cam recommends!
THIS its like when you have fun playing, get lost in the sound and nevermind the time playing 💖
I have come to love it every time I hear Paolo say "Porrtameeiinto" :-).
lol
That JP-8 lead has a really nice early Howard Jones Human's Lib feel!
Have you heard HoJo's Transform album? Really very good. :)
Yes it reminds me of 'Equality'
@@naoidfpaiourej3299 totally!
That’s EXACTLY the song I thought of when I saw this!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I would pay good money to watch him do "synth demos" live.
As I recall the Pro One can sync to ANY audio source, making it one of the most versatile mono synths out there. Nice to see one in aciton.
Can't get more 80ies sound. Still loving it!
That ditty is more than a ditty... it's a banger!!!!
Only 15min video??? I need 10hours or more of this 80s music!!! Well done!!
That's an almost 20.000 dollar demo/song :). I'll just keep on dreaming and listen to awesome videos like this one
Paolo, you called it a "ditty". I call it a monster jam! So good! Thanks so much for taking the time to show us. Please do more. Take care!
I love the use of a very simple pattern with an arpeggiator and sequencer (like Stand Back by Stevie Nicks or Bladerunner by Vangelis)
Spectacular! Especially when you consider this is all early 1980's equipment and the skill you must need to make it all work together so seamlessly
The Italo King strikes again :-)
Paolo is the GREATEST!! Thank God for this guy. He is doing a FANTASTIC service to every music lover, keyboard players and wannabees all over the planet....mucho mucho gracias Paolo!!!
That full mix sounds like it would’ve easily topped the dance charts back in the day. 😂
Honestly sounds pretty good for something slapped together for a video.
Alphaville - Sounds Like A Melody.
lol Obviously you don't recognise the track then
Sounds better than a lot of stuff out today!!
Sound a little like KOTO and Laserdance 👍🏼
Killing it! Love these sounds together
Seriously...You should do a separate channel on nothing but 80's style synth. You're awesome.
Mind blowing how awesome this combo sounds! Amazing!
Thanks a ton, Marshal!
4:42 That sounds like a melody :-)
Love what you do Paul. Always great!
This is so amazing, such eargasm. Thank you so much for your videos!
Thanks Paolo! Your music takes me back to the 80’s and always puts a smile on my face.
the divine sound! amazing!!! +++
Whow, seems so simple and sounds so GREAT. Many thanks!
The sound of the 80's will forever have a big place in my heart. Especially the synths and groups like Laserdance, Koto etc. This is one of my absolute favourite UA-cam Channels and Espen Kraft from Norway. Thanks Paolo.
Great video, as always. This one nailed my teens. JP-8 is of course Howard Jones, Pro-one is Vince Clarke and Linndrum, ooooh, so many. And the song, so very Laserdance!
Every part of this is fantastic!
Spectacular sounds! 😎🔝👍
Sounds fantastic. Loving the 80's sounds.
Glad you like it!
Damn, that was good.
I fell for it at the first listening. That characterizes a hit.
Could easily have become a big hit back in the 80:s.
This is nothing short of amazeballs. Thanks!
This is just... so good - thank you for sharing. Love your channel, keep up the amazing work.
It's great to see music like this being kept alive. I've always been fond of the synthesizer sound!
Superb I could listen to this all day long.
Glad you enjoy it!
I did!!
I could listen to it over and over again, good job Synthmania!
Perfect, beautiful sounds and with your composed and beautiful music, you made me dream of 80s music
Can’t stop rewatching this session. The Bible.
Everything is so classy and cool, incl walking thru bass variants on fixed chords. Playing this session thru shows massive skill and makes it look too easy, Paolo! :)
Er mejo!!! Grande Paolo!
Great video Paulo! Love that track!
Congrats! I love listening this
Reminds me of playing Test Drive on my Amiga in 1988
the song also sounds a lot like Top Gear's music from SNES
"Accolade Presents.."
haha.. was just thinking the same thing! Amiga 500,1000 and 1200 past owner here.. Also the pirate intro music.
Божественно! Браво! Есть всё, на что молились и от чего умирали в 80-х =) Работа Великого Мастера!
What a combo of instruments 🤘👊 Well played sir
KILLER TRACK! GREAT JOB
Wow, took me right back, 80's sound is still the best, everything made now comes from that era, keep it alive!!!!
Fun fact: hardware in this video will set you back around 40'000 - 50'000 USD
Kinda bullshit TBH considering how cheap PC hardware from the time is now.
@Leigh Hewit it’ll get you 90% of the way there, it’s the law of diminishing returns. Would I ever pay that much for synths? Fuck no I’m still just renting Serum lol. But it’s fun to see how stuff used to have to be
You can get damn close but all the quirks of the original hardware are going to provide a unique character that you just can’t recreate.
@@jclark1693 It existing is already proof it can be created. There is no reason why it couldn't be recreated as well then.
Cheaper than a time machine though! ;-)
I'm so amazed, no word to add !
Very nice tune and demo!! Praise!
U got 2 let the music... move MY feet :) Потрясающе, as always!
And Alphaville original - though better here!
Sounds like just about every tune on the 'Italian Style' label.
Google global truth project and read "The Present" to see the truth about life/death in four pages.
Fun jam, thanks for sharing, love the Linn Drum!
jezz... just discovered ur channel and I'm amazed with it!! Congrats for the hard work and love for the good and old music
And this video solidifies your no.1 spot on all time most amazing UA-cam channels.
Love it !
Outstanding video, thanks for posting, much appreciated. A+
Wow, that synth sounds absolutely great.
Man it sounds so great!!!
I really miss those 80s vibes.
This is an awesome tune! It gives me that wonderful 80's dance feeling. Thanks for all you do on UA-cam. Take care, Sam.
Thank you, Sam, glad you enjoy it!
So good, brilliant. A REAL lesson 🙏 Thank you 💙🇮🇹
You're a genius! That's such a catchy tune! Very well done!
In the beginning the bass line sound like something from Commodore 64, but later with the Roland melody its like any Commodore Amiga demo tune. Very nice explanation.!
Tracker music has absorbed a lot from Spacesynth and in general the fact that Spacesynth is alive now is primarily due to the popularity of Spacesynth in the demoscene in the 90s.
Wow! :) some moments of Your song (fun with JP8 ) are close to "Rofo - Beach Love" and reminds me first Laserdance records from 80's. Pure Spacesynth/Italo space disco style - I love it!
Been a subscriber for years but haven’t been on your channel in awhile, this is awesome AF. 🙌🏻
You nailed it!
Great demo, thanks a lot.
Definitely has an early Alphaville vibe, very cool.
I like the energy of this track.that sviglies are 2die4 and the lead reminds me of Capella from early 90.paolo you did an amazing job as usual 👌👌👌👌💝💝💝💝
Capella! Yes! Exactly my thought as well. >> ua-cam.com/video/WXvB3w3hu6Y/v-deo.html
Definitely a great demonstration how to... I could learn well. Thank you.
Awesome. Just love that JP 8. Can't get enough of it :-)
10:46 reminds me of "Sounds like a melody" by Alphaville, awesome demonstration!
Exactly what I thought when I eard it !
The night begins to shine
Big smile on my face watching you play. Back to the 80s at last. Thanks!
GReat. take me back in time as usual when you play .... great job...
Brilliant. When the Jupiter kicks in it reminds me of Capella’s U Got 2 Let The Music. I swear they must have used a Jupiter too. Yours has more 80s charm and a lot less 90s cheese! Great performance and great sound
Why didnt he credit them? Seems a bit odd.
That's quite a collection of 80s hardware. I have the modern versions of the J8 and the Pro 1 but those originals sound awesome
I have a Boss DD-3. ; )
I LOVE THIS TRACK ! And all your synthesizers 🤤🤤☺️
Sounds amazing! This is a great step back in the 80s! Awesome video!
Wow, the way you played all three live is amazing! Truly 80s in every way! 😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
you have managed to perfectly capture those late 80's pop / rave feels ...
(your gear all looks new =)
Must have good covers
Me ha gustado mucho. Enhorabuena por tu interpretación.
Fantastic skills on some legendary synth technology. A step back in time! Thank you.
You are one inspiring individual. I have used DAW versions of the Jupiter 8 and the Prophet One. But, seeing the actual instruments in use is amazing. I have just found a new UA-camr to subscribe to. Keep up the great work.
Sounds incredible!!!!!!!! I could picture Dead or Alive singing on this, or Silent Circle, maybe even C.C. Catch!🎹🎶
Absolutely fantastic music👍
Thanks for the video. Great demo!
Wow, i really enjoyed this. You should put your ditty out as a real song. Your a talented man.
He wouldn't be able to. Sounds identical to Sounds Like A Melody by Alphaville.
@@darklordojeda I knew some of it was familiar but couldn't really point where. You're right that the JP-8's unison lead sounds quite similar to 'Sounds Like a Melody', but I still wouldn't say it's identical and even the other parts of it still bang.
I'm sure he could release it with a little tweaking and it'd be a great tune! Cheers.
