Well, Chris is often misunderstood. Though hardcore Sonic fans despise him, he was there for a reason, and it is to relate to the viewers. Japanese audiences aren't really Sonic fans per-se, but I heard they can relate to Chris as the one rich kid who felt very lonely until the animal friends from another world landed into his world. Chris even helps them achieve their goals easily, or sometimes, feel pain from foes until they understand better from him.

That's very interesting. I like how you emphasize the business and cultural needs of the time which resulted in the dub as we know it. It makes a lot of sense. I first saw the English dub and I thought it was fantastic. Only years later I found out there was the Japanese version and I started watching clips of it and thought, "wow, I was really robbed of a lot of good things in the dub." But that actually turned out to be a happy accident because watching the Japanese version was a bit like getting treated to the whole show all over again anew. It was also a really amazing surprise seeing the stuff that was omitted in the English dub, things like what actually happened to Molly, and the ending of the whole show. So these circumstances all worked out quite nicely for me. I was blown away by the English version, and then years later blown away a second time even more by the Japanese version. A surprise double treat.
An uncut dub is highly welcome, and anything is possible. Recently, Saint Seiya (1986), Sailor Moon, and One Piece have all been given an uncut dub treatment despite being years (and decades) old. Imagine if TMS Entertainment and Studiopolis produced an uncut dub, and have many of the Naruto voice actors voice the whole cast. It's like hearing Deidara's voice on Sonic, Sexy Jutsu's on Amy, Konohamaru's on Charmy, etc. These same voice actors are still voicing Sonic and pals for at least a decade, and it would be interesting to hear a dub like this. If new home video releases happened, there would be Japanese, French, and uncut English as the possible audio languages, since they should all sync perfectly.
There was also one more lasting impact 4kids made to the Sonic franchise the intro song gotta go fast has become a mainstay in the franchise even becoming Sonic's official catchphrase even though MainLine Sonic hasn't even said it
From what I heard, Sega asked 4Kids to make some of the edits because they needed them to meet Fox's network standards. I can't confirm it, but, it actually does make sense, since again, standards are a thing. Also, the Americanization might've also been from input from Sega, and honestly, I don't think previous Sonic shows have been strangers to adding specifically American foods into the shows. Like how the first Sonic show had Sonic's favorite food canonically be Coney Dogs (Which, as a Michigander myself, I'm actually kind of proud of.), so, I don't think Sega actually cared that American food was added in, since, it was consistant with a previous Sonic show which also had American food featured. Now, I don't currently have a source for this, but, it does make sense why Sega may have asked 4Kids to make the edits they made.
I didn't mind the dub, I think the actors for the characters all fit very well (the only two that I thought were a strict downgrade from their predecessors in the main games were Amy Pallet as Tails and James Carter Cathcart as Vector). I consider Jason Griffith, Lisa Ortiz, Dan Green, Kathleen Delany, and Mike Pollock the default voices for Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, and Eggman. And they did improve over time, just listen to how Jason Griffith sounds in 06 and Riders vs how he sounds in Unleashed and Black Knight. But sadly because of a lot of complaining (and because the 4Kids actors replaced the old cast during the time of two low quality games), they were replaced.

I often wonder... why didn't the classic 3D Sonic voice cast voice the characters in Sonic X for the English dub? It's kinda funny how it ended up versa.
I kinda disagree with your comment about Sonic X not being canon is something that goes against today's SEGA and that it is totally beneficial We can see that isn't true because of the Sonic Movies, they're recent-ish and they're still their own continuity The thing with Sonic X is that it was always about being a different universe, since it doesn't fit with the games AT ALL on its premise and even the story that's set even PRIOR to the anime's first episode, just like the movies Things like the Sonic Movies and Sonic X are their own universe because literally their own world building stops that from happening, with things such as (but not exclusively) Sonic's world and Earth being 2 different planets, that's also true with things such as the Sonic OVA and the, Archie Comics, Sonic the Comic, the Shogakukan and Super Spin mangas, etc. for example On the other hand, things like the IDW comics are already set to happen taking into consideration the events from every Sonic game, so the storyline of the comics already can't go much further because of its world building being the same as the games, so making it canon doesn't change the creativity that could've been had with them, it only adds for BOTH universes, especially since the games were already canon to IDW On the other hand, for example, the saddest part about Sonic X being its own thing is that we don't see Cosmo anymore and we have to live with the fact that she didn't even existed at all in the main continuity, it's -1 guarantee point that she would be kept around or at least something about her story just like how Gamma and Emerl are still remembered and have call backs to this day even though they died, the same probably would've happend with her plant pot The only thing that really is the oddball is the fact that Sonic Prime is considered canon, because it doesn't respect a lot of things and rules set by the mainline universe and makes it seems that it's only canon for the sake of being canon so it gets hard to know if it was already made with the intention of being canon but the writters messed up by not caring about the story of past games or if they just made it canon for marketing purposes But one thing that proves that current SEGA just doesn't simply make everything canon as much as they can is the fact that there are still many side-things and universes that are not part of the main continuity like the crossover games or other games that Sonic has a cameo in So, to make it short, my point is: It depends on the idea and world building of the media, if the original idea is to consider the games or other media into its story, then there is of course no problem with making it canon, if the idea is to make something separated, then it's better not to, and that's the decision that it seems they make to decide if something is canon or not (excluding for Prime, but I already explained that) making a canon with events that happend and carried over for future media from the same universe is cool, it's cool to know you're seeing the same character that got through so many things, playing Sonic Adventure and seeing Sonic 3 & Knuckles comebacks is cool and canon connected things always were a thing, even in that time the games already had a continuity beetween each other but Sonic X didn't because it didn't need to
Were can I watch Sonic X in sub? I remember watching it on UA-cam, but it got removed. I haven't finished watching it. I enjoyed the 4 Kids dub, but it was corny, and I realized that they changed everything from the original game and cut out the original story.
Last I checked it was on Hulu and the whole show is currently available on Blu-ray by Discotek! Definitely recommend picking up the Blu-ray so you can have it forever. Just like with UA-cam, streaming services are always changing and just because it's there now doesn't mean it'll always be there.
I honestly didn't like Sonic X. No offense to everyone who loved it - there's nothing wrong with liking things I don't - but it's actually my absolute least favorite Sonic cartoon. I even like Underground better (because it's so bizarre and bad in interesting ways). I honestly thought the animation in X was offensively bad, and the characterization was just bland. To be fair, I am not a fan of anime, which probably didn't help, as I find Japanese character tropes unrelatable? But I will cite a big example - who asked for an episode of something where Sonic plays baseball? Edit: I forgot to mention that, while not big into anime, if I were, I would demand dubs or nothing. I can't personally stand subtitled media. It's exhausting having to read every line of dialogue, and to me, it defeats the point of video versus just reading a book or screenplay? Plus, I'm very much a multi-task sort of person, and like being able to look away from the screen and still know what's going on.
Well, things change and the Latin Spanish dub of Sonic X is cursed, specially the third season (because the third season got unaired in Mexico besides Japan), so at least Sonic X needs a Latin Spanish redub, just like One Piece, I’m gonna start a dubbing career to do it (and if my dubbing company it’s a success, I can expand it to English, I can even dub that Animal Crossing anime movie), because the Mexican anime market has uncut dubs like Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seiya, One Piece and EVEN THEY REDUBBED NARUTO!, so yes, Sonic X needs a Latin Spanish redub, Sonic X Latin Spanish redub is gonna be better than the French and English’s ones (there’s moments better adapted in the English dub than in the French dub, like episode 40, the French dub ruined that but they improved episode 52)
I personally like Sonic X’s English dub, but I can’t deny that the Japanese original is better. The replaced music really hurts the tone of the episodes, some more than others. My favorite episode, Sonic’s Scream Test, has unique music that the English dub replaced, which somewhat ruins the feel of the episode. I always found it cool that the 4Kids voice cast would then go on to voice in the games, though.
wait the uncensored dub of shaman king and yugioh were successful they just didn't know how much it will cost to make uncensore anime so they stop making them
I did watch Sonic X in English as a kid and enjoyed it and even got the toys (mostly because I was very impressible and I threw the Sonic X toys from Toy Island in the trash because I didn't like Toy Island's Sonic figures) but as time went on, I grew to hate the 4kids dub of the show, while their dub of Pokémon was great I think 4kids was getting very cockey (especially with One Piece) I discovered Sonic X on a Sonic fan site and thought it looked cool and could top AOSTH, but I felt Chris held back the show (and I hate Chris Thorndyke with a passion, I hate Him more than Omochao, Elise, Mephiles and Infinite) and didn't have that feel that characters like Sally Acorn and the Freedom Fighters had for Sonic Satam and the SSSSS Squad had for AOSTH and the rest is history. Now I think We can see a uncut redub of Sonic X done by Crunchyroll with the current cast and Mike Pollock dubbing new lines for the show and have Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley write the dialogue for the show with the OG music and Crush 40, I know some fans will get upset (mostly because I still remember when Spax3 made angry rant videos on Jason Griffith replacing Ryan Drummond for the games.) To Me Sonic X was the beginning of the Dark age of Sonic and well I don't want to go down that rabbit hole, again, while I still think we might see Sonic X Uncut on Crunchyroll and it may or may not happen, that's up to SegaSammy until then, I'm happy with the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic OVA and Sonic Prime for My Sonic shows.
Originally, I dropped Sonic X after "Satellite Swindle", and was unable to get caught up after that episode. I re-watched the series when Vortexx was a thing, and I honestly enjoyed it. I'm afraid Chris is one of the most misunderstood characters in the Sonic series. He's there to give the audience a character they can easily relate to, as Japanese audiences aren't really Sonic fans per-se. I think TMS and/or Studiopolis would be better choices for an uncut redub. Imagine Naruto series VAs voicing the whole cast, like Deidara's on Sonic, Sakura's on Tails, White Zetsu's on Knuckles, Yamato's on Espio, Konohamaru's on Charmy, etc. They have all voiced the characters since Sonic Colors, and continue to voice them this day. I'm sad to hear that Sonic Prime ended, and none of the episodes adapted the IDW comics or the Dreamcast-era games. It would have been sweet to see Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 adaptations that follow the games more faithfully.
I cant really see Sonic X as being the beginning of the Dark Age for sonic. A tv show badly adapted is just that. When you realize their bread and butter is the games. Sonic '06 will always stand as the true beginning to the dark age
@@NewGabeOrder Oh no I'm sure Sega-ATLUS will get studiopolis for dub the show 100% for sure, but they'll need to distributed it aswell, being how big crunchyroll is RN Sega-ATLUS will have to go with them to distribute Sonic X Uncut on their streaming service
@@necrodamus5481 It was for me, when I saw that teaser image of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Cream and Cheese with Chris, what was going on in my mind was "Am I getting to old for this series?" and Sonic X aired I felt disappointed, but if you really want to go by the games, Sonic Heroes was the beginning of the dark age of Sonic.
I would honestly take a version of the 4kids dub that just replaces the new music with the original japanese music. It's so hard watching Sonic X dubbed with that goofy ahh generic cartoon music, especially since the japanese version has a much better soundtrack that fits more with Sonic.
What are your favorite memories of watching Sonic X? Lemme know!

I often wonder... why didn't the classic 3D Sonic voice cast voice the characters in Sonic X for the English dub? It's kinda funny how it ended up versa.

Ngl, I like the english dub. Just they should've calmed down on the unnecessary sensorship. Well, its too late now, 4Kids shut down long ago.
I kinda disagree with your comment about Sonic X not being canon is something that goes against today's SEGA and that it is totally beneficial
We can see that isn't true because of the Sonic Movies, they're recent-ish and they're still their own continuity
The thing with Sonic X is that it was always about being a different universe, since it doesn't fit with the games AT ALL on its premise and even the story that's set even PRIOR to the anime's first episode, just like the movies
Things like the Sonic Movies and Sonic X are their own universe because literally their own world building stops that from happening, with things such as (but not exclusively) Sonic's world and Earth being 2 different planets, that's also true with things such as the Sonic OVA and the, Archie Comics, Sonic the Comic, the Shogakukan and Super Spin mangas, etc. for example
On the other hand, things like the IDW comics are already set to happen taking into consideration the events from every Sonic game, so the storyline of the comics already can't go much further because of its world building being the same as the games, so making it canon doesn't change the creativity that could've been had with them, it only adds for BOTH universes, especially since the games were already canon to IDW
On the other hand, for example, the saddest part about Sonic X being its own thing is that we don't see Cosmo anymore and we have to live with the fact that she didn't even existed at all in the main continuity, it's -1 guarantee point that she would be kept around or at least something about her story just like how Gamma and Emerl are still remembered and have call backs to this day even though they died, the same probably would've happend with her plant pot
The only thing that really is the oddball is the fact that Sonic Prime is considered canon, because it doesn't respect a lot of things and rules set by the mainline universe and makes it seems that it's only canon for the sake of being canon so it gets hard to know if it was already made with the intention of being canon but the writters messed up by not caring about the story of past games or if they just made it canon for marketing purposes
But one thing that proves that current SEGA just doesn't simply make everything canon as much as they can is the fact that there are still many side-things and universes that are not part of the main continuity like the crossover games or other games that Sonic has a cameo in
So, to make it short, my point is: It depends on the idea and world building of the media, if the original idea is to consider the games or other media into its story, then there is of course no problem with making it canon, if the idea is to make something separated, then it's better not to, and that's the decision that it seems they make to decide if something is canon or not (excluding for Prime, but I already explained that) making a canon with events that happend and carried over for future media from the same universe is cool, it's cool to know you're seeing the same character that got through so many things, playing Sonic Adventure and seeing Sonic 3 & Knuckles comebacks is cool and canon connected things always were a thing, even in that time the games already had a continuity beetween each other but Sonic X didn't because it didn't need to
Sonic X maybe came looking 4 Kids and TMS Entertainment.

To do that you gotta download the mod called Better SADX for the Steam version!

6:45 I get that too
Sonic X Anime 4kids
If America never got an uncut dub I highly doubt Latin America will get one

I personally like Sonic X’s English dub, but I can’t deny that the Japanese original is better. The replaced music really hurts the tone of the episodes, some more than others.
My favorite episode, Sonic’s Scream Test, has unique music that the English dub replaced, which somewhat ruins the feel of the episode.
I always found it cool that the 4Kids voice cast would then go on to voice in the games, though.

wait the uncensored dub of shaman king and yugioh were successful they just didn't know how much it will cost to make uncensore anime so they stop making them
I did watch Sonic X in English as a kid and enjoyed it and even got the toys (mostly because I was very impressible and I threw the Sonic X toys from Toy Island in the trash because I didn't like Toy Island's Sonic figures) but as time went on, I grew to hate the 4kids dub of the show, while their dub of Pokémon was great I think 4kids was getting very cockey (especially with One Piece)
I discovered Sonic X on a Sonic fan site and thought it looked cool and could top AOSTH, but I felt Chris held back the show (and I hate Chris Thorndyke with a passion, I hate Him more than Omochao, Elise, Mephiles and Infinite) and didn't have that feel that characters like Sally Acorn and the Freedom Fighters had for Sonic Satam and the SSSSS Squad had for AOSTH and the rest is history.
Now I think We can see a uncut redub of Sonic X done by Crunchyroll with the current cast and Mike Pollock dubbing new lines for the show and have Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley write the dialogue for the show with the OG music and Crush 40, I know some fans will get upset (mostly because I still remember when Spax3 made angry rant videos on Jason Griffith replacing Ryan Drummond for the games.)
To Me Sonic X was the beginning of the Dark age of Sonic and well I don't want to go down that rabbit hole, again, while I still think we might see Sonic X Uncut on Crunchyroll and it may or may not happen, that's up to SegaSammy until then, I'm happy with the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic OVA and Sonic Prime for My Sonic shows.
I LOVED MARVEL DC Transformers Sonic The Hedgheog🔥🔥💕💕..
