For me it has to me Adventure Tails, seeing him grow and mature in those two games were actually amazing, for a fact. If I could have my own variant of Tails I'd probably inspire him off of the adventure era(1 and 2) along with Frontiers(Minus dlc stuff) and so on
Tails is just an example of an adorable underdog who tries his best to be the hero he looks up. And I’m so happy with what frontiers did with his character and him wanting to go on his own adventures and be independent. Sonic’s and Tails’ brotherly relationship is just so adorable/wholesome
One of the reasons why I like Tails because unlike a lot of other "smart" characters he doesn't have issues socializing, which is refreshing. (And the issues that he does have come from the fact he got bullied as a kid) It's even reflected in his theme song which has a lot of lines about friends helping friends and stuff like that, when in contrast Sonic's is all about his personal philosophy and Knuckles specifically talks about how he's fine by himself and doesn't need anyone (he'll be singing a different tune by Heroes by yk haha)
While it's not as apparent, Heroes does still show a bit of his bravery from the Adventure games. A lot of people just show the same old clip of Knuckles teasing Tails about Shadow being a ghost, but Tails was also the one to get Eggman's message and got Knuckles off his island to help him and Sonic. He was also the first one to volunteer to help Sonic defeat Metal Overlord. He still has his moments of insecurity and fear, as he's still around 8 when Heroes happened, and it's completely normal. I would definitely say he fell off around Unleashed, as in Shadow the Hedgehog and even 06, Tails was still willing to help in those final battles, but man. Hopefully after Frontiers and everything, Tails will finally grow back into his own hero, maybe finishing off his Adventure arc in his own solo game or SA3. That'd be neat. Tails is my favorite character tbh, and I really want to see his development go up after Frontiers. So, hopefully, we do get to see that, instead of more character regression. With Ian Flynn on board in the writing room now, I have hope for Tails' future.
I have my own thoughts on Knuckles teasing Tails about ghosts is so to deflect from his own fear of them, given that Sonic is there. Because surely if Knuckles expressed a fear of ghosts, after his experience in SA2 with the King, I'm sure it'd leave him open to some light teasing from Sonic. Not sure I trust Flynn with Tails though, given the nothing burger that was his growth in Frontiers that basically boiled down to, "we'll write him better next time... maybe." Especially when compared to Sonic and Tails R, which did the same crisis of confidence before Frontiers, and had a meaningful pay off, with the kid earning his new found confidence for himself, after being concerned he was "slowing [Sonic] down." Meanwhile Frontiers sees Sonic gift him it on a silver platter, without Tails really doing anything to earn it himself. Like confronting his Shadow Self he spoke off.
Tails has always been my favorite since my introduction to the series. Personally I admire him more than Sonic because of how he acknowledged that he’s not gonna be able to grow as an individual simply by following and copying Sonic’s style. He’s proven that he’s already a hero on his own when defeating Eggman in SA1 and saving Station Square. He’s also shown to be incredibly brave in Sonic X when Shadow was after Cosmo and Tails just flung himself as him knowing he may not get anywhere but still took the leap
So I had the same reaction as most people when they made Tails back into a chicken in Forces 😑🤦♂️. Anyways while Sonic has been a role model for us . I think people would learn a lot more from Tails since a lot of us can relate with him.
I think the fact that Tails was able to create a fake chaos emerald that was similar enough to a real one for Sonic to use Chaos Control in an emergency just shows how much of a true genius he is. That is an insane feat that I don't think most people in that universe could even come close to, but Tails was able to do it.
I find Tails relatable for his backstory, it's why I love Nine in Sonic Prime. And this perspective on Tails as someone who wants to face his fears with bravery and confidence is a trait that I too find relatable, overall this was an amazing video, thanks.
If we apply the Robin makes Batman a better hero logic to Sonic, he could have been a hedgehog with a real attitude similarly to his Fleetway self and probably was on a high pre-Sonic 2. Upon meeting Tails and letting him tag along, it might have made him gain a more responsible side that tempered him enough to avoid becoming someone who would have been conceited and arrogant without the parts to ground him or to make him someone worth admiring. Becoming a better hero because of Tails.
I love Tails (as my Username already implies) and you described why perfectly! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was not only my first Sonic Game, but the first game I ever played. I played it with my friend, he as Sonic and me as Tails. So i experienced what Tails felt firsthand - wanting to help and become as good as Sonic/my friend. That feeling I will never forget, and it was so nice to see him grow alongside me in the Adventure-era, as you described it was for yourself as well. That is why Tails is one of my favorite characters of all time.
Tails is and will always remain my most favourite Sonic character, having been introduced to him when I was 6 years old back in 1993, though nowadays he is also tied with Blaze the Cat, who is my favourite of the Sonic girls. Tails is just so adorable and cute, so caring for others, and while he is also shy and timid, he does his best to be brave and stand his ground when he has to. I find him very relatable since he is like me in so many ways, I'm pretty smart, but not like to the same level as him, I'm very kind-hearted, a bit on the shy side, and just as he was bullied for his two tails, I got bullied growing up due to my sweet personality, plus being an underdog myself, I root for underdog characters. I also have a soft spot for foxes, so he gets extra points for being one. So yeah, Tails is without a doubt the MVP of the Sonic series, he's someone you would just want to give a big hug, cuddle with and protect at all times as he is just too pure for this world. An upstanding hero who is such a wholesome precious little angel with a heart that makes him as sweet as a jar of honey, and out of all the Sonic guys, he is the most emotionally mature and down to earth, which is a reminder that no matter how cruel this world can be, we need a Tails to balance out the darkness.
Many people over the years have complained that tails regressed back to his old self in recent games and while I cannot doubt this here’s the thing, tails is still growing and learning. Whether you look at the comic or games/shows, yes he has setbacks and cowers from time to time but just like all young children and even adults he is still growing stronger and better. Even when he fails he gets right back up and gives things another go and I feel sonic frontiers tackled this beautifully. Just food for thought😊
7:03 oh my god they fixed the subtitle error for this line. And I’m not talking about the auto granted subtitles. No I’m talking about the game’s subtitles where normally is says “Amy you’re timing is impeccable” and now the subtitles says “Amy your timing is impeccable”.
I remember talking trash about Tails when I was younger, but in recent years I've grown to respect the little dude. He may not be my favorite character, but I can say he's not the wimpy sidekick I once saw him as.
9:07 basic monsters? Have you seen the size diffence between Tails and the Dark Gaia Titan? Considering that only Sonic as a Werehog can fight these enemies, it might be a bit much to expect Tails to take on a Titan and a swarm of regular minions single handedly. And let's not forget, he's a little 8 year old kid, alone in the dark who's come across a band of scary monsters, how else should he react?! In more recent years I thought Tails was handled quite well when he was having a crisis of confidence, and voiced his concerns about being a hinderence. That's right, I'm talking about Sonic and Tails R! Where the kid actually gets the chance to do things alone, and earn his new found self confidence before going off into the world to have his own adventures. Also with Tails hating his name Miles, I kinda have a bit of a head canon to that angle. I guess it it might be due to him being a little kid and he's yet to grow into his name. Perhaps when he turns 14 he might become a bit more comfortable with being called Miles by others, but that's not to say his friends wouldn't still call him Tails of course.
You should look at how the sonic shows treated Tails. I feel like Tails is treated much better in the shows than he has been in the games. I do also have to mention that he actually grew through the shows, even though none of the shows are connected. Now, admittedly, Tails was pretty much just Sonic's sidekick, and an adopted younger brother. Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Tails found sonic when he was looking for a home, and literally fell upon Sonic. Eventually Sonic let Tails stay with him, and basically adopted Tails as a younger brother. In the rest of the show, Tails is not really much, other than Sonic's sidekick, and younger brother, in fact, Sonic is very protective of Tails, even though Tails is capable of much more (and Tails does save Sonic many times). SATAM (Sonic The Hedgehog) probably has the worst portrayal, mainly because Tails is just a kid who idolizes Sonic. I mean, Tails doesn't go on missions with Sonic, is treated like a kid, and I'm pretty sure Tails isn't very technically advanced either (same with aosth). Later in the show, he does prove himself, but ultimately isn't much other than a kid who is besy friend with Sonic. Sonic Underground doesn't have tails, so I'll go to Sonkc X. Sonic X probably has the best portrayal of Tails ever, which is also kind of funny because season 2 follows the story of Sonic Adventure 2. Tails was being bullies by other animals, who were destroying Tails' inventions, which caused Tails to run to the beach, where he found the Tornado. Tails is super interested in it, so he paints it blue and makes is faster. Sonic catches Tails doing this, and likes what Tails did to the plane. From then on out, they were froend. Throughout the series, Tails grows a whole lot, and in fact is actually pretty independent from the beginning. He's definitely still a sidekick, but he's a lot more independent than the previous portrayals. Later, Tails does save Station Square from being blown up all without Sonic, and he grows much more than any other version. You'll have to watch the show to see what I mean. Sonic Boom is also a really good portrayal. We never get to see how Sonic and Tails meet, but we do get to see how much Tails and Sonic care for each other. The first episode, Sidekick, starts out with Sonic in a fight with Eggmam. Tails gets hurt, which makes Sonic fire Tails as a sidekick all to protect him. Sonic then hold sidekick auditions, where anyone can try to be Sonic's new sidekick. Against Sonic's wishes, Tails tries out anyway. Tails does eventually get back as Sonic's sidekick. Even though this episode is about how Tails is Sonic's sidekick, throughout the show, Tails is not just a sidekick, instead a friend. In fact, Tails is very independent, owning how own house and workshop (apparently he doesn't have an official age, but given how the characters act, they're likely to be a bit older than in the games), and in fact makes all his inventions on his own accord. He is not fearful, in fact many times he faces danger when Sonic is not around. Sonic Boom still has one of the best portrayals yet. Sonic Prime is a weird one, because there are actually 4 different versions due to the multiverse aspect of the show. We don't get to see much of the regular Tails, but we do get to see that Tails still has the smarts and bravery that he never left in Sonic X (seriously, I'm telling you, Tails grew through all the shows, even though none are connected), and is a great friend to Sonic. We do actually get to see his backstory though. Tails was being bullied, and Sonic came and stopped the bullies, then they became friends, you know the standard. What really stands out with Sonic Prime is that there are different versions of Tails who did not grow up with Sonic. The jungle version is the worst, as he's literally just a fox, cannot speak, and is not very smart (it's also shown that he didn't know he could fly until Sonic told him he could). The pirate version is better, because he's very smart, and loves to tinker. There's not really much more than that. The main version though, that's where it really starts to get good. Tails, or Nine, from Egg Yolk City, did not grow up with Sonic, and did not get saved from the bullies. After a while, he eventually made himself 7 more mechanical tails, giving hime nine tails, hence why he calls himself Nine. He is not a sidekick in this version, instead his own person who never had any friends. He is the most brave version, all because he never had anyone to look towards, he just had himself, and the misery of life. Throughout the show, he is still his own person, more allies with sonic* than any other version, in fact, he is never a sidekick. * Spoiler warning: at the end of season 2, he becomes the enemy, because he doesn't want to fix the paradox prism, but instead use it to build a new reality, basically starting over. Sonic wants to fix the paradox prism because that'll fix the universe and make it how it should be. Overall I think there's a whole lot more to unpack when looking at the shows, mainly because they stray from the games a lot, and show much more character development. While the games have been getting worse, the shows have been getting better. I actually like the shows more, because Sonic is one of the only video game series that actually translates super well into other media. It's kind of funny how Sonic thrives in shows, movies and other media, whereas the games are really only made because it was originally a video game series. To get a full grasp on how amazing Tails is in the shows, you'll have to watch them all. Thanksfully the first 4 shows, aosth, satam, Sonic Underground, and Sonic X are officially on youtube for free, while Sonic Boom and Sonic Prime are on Netflix (Sonic Boom is probably elsewhere, but since Sonic Prime is a Netflix original, it is only on Netflix). Now, you don't have to watch all the shows, in fact you can just watch a couple episodes of aosth, and just skip Sonic Underground (that is a terrible show, believe me), but you need to see satam, Sonic X, Sonic Boom, and Sonic Prime.
But Mugi, Tails hadn't seen or heard of the Dark Gaia Monsters between them, and there was 7 of them. Also, you compare the D.G Monsters to level 1 robots from SA1? Are you serious?
And let's not forget one of them was a Dark Gaia, that towers over the fox cub. It might be asking just a wee too much to say for Tails to take it down by himself, even without the other six enemies. Plus there's the fact he's an 8 year old child alone at night who's ran into monsters, of course he's going to get scared 🙄
Knuckles is the most relatable to personally wise I think my personality is similar, adventure version sometimes Boom it depends also Sticks if you know 😎
Tails is a much better sidekick , he has very good speed and can fly and swim very good in water and is a good pilot and has great gadgets and weapons....and he is cute and lovely character.
Tails doesn't actually have an IQ of 300- Eggman does, but because they get compared in terms of intelligence so often, this became a common misconception. Same for Tails hating the name Miles - this one comes from aosth, but in the games he never expresses negative feelings for it. (He doesn't even correct Sage when she calls him that multiple times, and occasionally refers to himself this way, for example in tsr). He just prefers to go by Tails, for no reason given. (Somehow I don't see anyone thinking Eggman hates the name "Robotnik" just because he goes by Eggman now)
Tails DOES have an iq of 300 I think it's on the wiki? He's considered a genius kid just like Jimy Neutron, he's as smart as Sonic is fast and Knuckles is strong
@@berserker3414 no, it's not on the wiki. (Not to mention anyone can edit that, so you still need an actual source). Of course he's a kid genius, but why spread factually incorrect information and mislead people? It just makes everything else you say seem less trustworthy. You could say "He has intellect comparable to Dr Eggman, who has the IQ of 300".
I disagree that Tails has become a burden to Sonic... Even though he was stripped of his physical prowess and somewhat his bravery he was still helping as tech support, tactician and pilot. (Not to mention exposition fairy lmao) Of course he wasn't playable so it seems almost like nothing, compared to the games where you have a chance to get immersed in what he's doing and gain appreciation for it this way.
I would still argue he didn't do anything from Colors to Lost World. Him being an exposition fairy doesn't change the fact that the exposition he usually gave was ultimately pointless or obvious and something anyone can figure out. That's what annoyed me so much about Colors era Tails, they SAY he is helping but we don't really see it. In Lost World, he helped disable the Doomsday Machine but that was the game where he was defeated by a buzz bomber. In Sonic Colors, his translator is only there for stupid mistranslation jokes even though they wouldn't need one to know what was going on with the whole wisp kidnapping. Sonic Unleashed, he was a pilot, that's it. Sonic Generation, LITERAL definition of NPC. Sonic forces, do I even need to say it. If they were going to strip him of his fighting skills instead of developing it at least use his smarts to make him more relevant and likeable, not cowardly like in Forces or a straight up jerk like in Lost World.
@@jamarpeters5082 Of course he's an npc, you can't play as him? You are aware that he has does other things in Forces besides cowering from Chaos? It happens at the very beginning of the game, but afterwards he provides help as a strategist. Exactly what you're talking about with using his smarts to be helpful and relevant. As for the other games, you're just agreeing with me - he does accomplish things, but because we don't play as him, they don't seem significant. (Ig we'll just have to agree to disagree about the exposition being "pointless") (Sorry you don't find him likable in Lost World, but he's just being insecure which is one of his established character traits and his biggest flaw: insecurity isn't always cutesy "oh they're great but they don't realize it", sometimes it makes people obsess over their flaws, excessively seek validation and snap at others because they develop trust issues. It's a character flaw that is taking Tails a lot to overcome, but it's still a flaw, it's not always gonna manifest in pretty or pitiable ways. That's why he takes the W at the end of the game despite "acting like a jerk" - it's meant to be a moment of him proving himself to himself, overcoming his issues somewhat. But of course, the writing in the game isn't that great so this arc is lost to a lot of the audience)
What's your favorite depiction of Tails? Let me know!
My Favorite Depiction of Tails Is Classic Tails
IDW comic Tails
Your animated version where he wants to have sex with Sonic in Robotnik Clause.
Sorry not sorry, make it canon you coward!
How have I never acknowledged the existence of this channel before lmao

Every sidekick in fiction would like your home address.
Actually, the name "Tails" was invented by his bullies when he was growing up. It just stuck to him I guess
You should look at how the sonic shows treated Tails. I feel like Tails is treated much better in the shows than he has been in the games.
Indeed my mortal self is indeed the best sidekick, hes immortal like me and never dies in the sonic games
Knuckles is the most relatable to personally wise I think my personality is similar, adventure version sometimes Boom it depends also Sticks if you know 😎
Knuckles is dumbass
I find it interesting how Tails is more appealing to girls and little siblings compared to most other sonic characters.
Other Sonic characters are so broring
Tails is amazing
@@TIWANDUBNow come on. Tails is amazing, but other characters like Knuckles and Shadow are also amazing.
@@Xxandrew01 yeah this is true
He's just really cute and I saw a lot of Tails fanboys too
New subscriber 🤯
Iove tails 😊
Tails is a much better sidekick , he has very good speed and can fly and swim very good in water and is a good pilot and has great gadgets and weapons....and he is cute and lovely character.
Yeah forces sorta $@+/#+ him up
9:21-9:30 I don’t know man.
9:59 why was sonic moonwalking?
Blame Pontac & Graff.
Tails can be a best sidekick if Sonic team don't ruined him again...
Tsisls
Are you focusing on this channel now?
Yep.
I don't think he's gonna fully stop uploading on the MugiMikey channel, tho.
I disagree that Tails has become a burden to Sonic...
Even though he was stripped of his physical prowess and somewhat his bravery he was still helping as tech support, tactician and pilot. (Not to mention exposition fairy lmao)
Of course he wasn't playable so it seems almost like nothing, compared to the games where you have a chance to get immersed in what he's doing and gain appreciation for it this way.
(Ig we'll just have to agree to disagree about the exposition being "pointless")
(Sorry you don't find him likable in Lost World, but he's just being insecure which is one of his established character traits and his biggest flaw: insecurity isn't always cutesy "oh they're great but they don't realize it", sometimes it makes people obsess over their flaws, excessively seek validation and snap at others because they develop trust issues.
Tbh all the characters kinda got the poor handling....some worse than tails, lIke shadow and amy
