I'll be 60 next week and I haven't been wearing makeup for about 10 years but want to get into it again. This video had valuable information for me. Thanks very much.
Have a nice birthday!
@@bettyhappschatt3467 Thank you very much. So kind.
Congrats! You should check out Wayne Goss too. Him and Aly are my absolute favorites
@@BJGreene Wayne Goss? Okay, will do. Thank you very much.
At the end of the day, wear what you enjoy.
Thank you for addressing older people 🙌
I am 72 and I loved this video!!!! You are one smart woman. Thank you!!!!
You’re very good at helping without hurting. You manage to point out where women can improve without making them feel or look foolish. Thats a fantastic skill. I’ve been a fan of yours for a few years now, and I just want to say I really look forward to your content. 😀
Very well put into words! I agree
Yes. Very good at helping without hurting. Her content has always been strong and this subject is very important for many women who choose to age gracefully with beauty and style❤
I took a class for mature makeup to update my routine for my changing face. Covered many of your points. It made such a a difference I got accused of plastic surgery or injections. 😅 Also many get stuck in skincare routines that no longer work for their changing skin.
I’d love to attend a class like this. Where was this offered I’d you don’t mind me asking? I’m glad you enjoyed it.
That's my mother. She's been describing hormonal changes for the last 15 years, but hasn't changed her routines even though her body has changed. I think part of it is denial, because you have to accept that yes, you're aging. I also think part of it is them not wanting to listen to a generation that came before them.
10:20 So true! When i see a stylish older woman, or an older woman that dresses in a way that complements her face, body, and coloring I think I want to look like her when I grow up 😂❤
I'm really grateful for having my grandma as one of those ladies as a child ❤ She never was a wealthy woman, but she visited the hair salon on a weekly basis (something unthinkable with nowadays prices lol) and she loved simple, elegant jewelry. She didn't need more to mesmerize me!
@@ZurditaDinamitaIn Spain they still do that. 😊
There's a 53 year lady who goes to my yoga studio. She's a biochemistry professor, wears crop tops that highlights her abs and tattoo, and radiates warmth and kindness, never treats anyone like they're beneath her. I want to be her when I grow up (I'm in my 30s)
Can you mention very thin hair in older women in your next hair video
I use dry shampoo and it makes my hair look thicker and more styled. I use "Clean Freak" by "Not Your Mothers" for dry shampoo. Its the best product I've ever used on my hair (and I've tried a LOT) it makes a huge difference in my hair
Hairdresser Justin HIckox uses Topix on himself and recommends it to clients.
Aly, you are amazing. I love how you present things. You’re so kind and right to the point. I love how you say it’s not about the wrinkles, it’s about the overall look. I’ve watched your videos for quite some time, and
there’s no one quite like you, you’re so unique. I appreciate all the info you provide.
You have a very good eye. Thanks for detailed analysis & tips.
Thank you for doing this near Mother's Day. I know you miss her. 💖
Love you Aly! You're always giving great advice. Thank you.
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for these great advices. I am one of these, who struggle with old blue tattood eyebrows and finding the right product. I agree, that the harsh dark undereye strikes look horrible on older women - and most of them tattoos - look unfortunately messy. My first recommendation for all the beautiful young ladies:
NEVER let a tattoo anywhere on your skin - especially on your face and neck! Some times later you will regret it.
Aly you look perfect & stunning - stay healthy & happy! 🌹👍
I have a friend who did the tattoo lining, it has turned a blue color. From far away it looks okay, but close up, a bit strange. I'm too afraid to let anyone tatto my brows or eyes, once it's done, it's done and who knows if the person will even do a good job; then you're stuck with it.
I quite enjoy my tattoos, but they are not on my face nor neck. They are on my chest, thigh, and upper arm. I do agree, that face tattoos are usually a bad idea. Neck? Depends on the size and where it is. I've seen a cute small one on the back of a middle aged woman's neck. Looked nice.
Microbladed brows look very natural they don’t look anything like the brow tattoos from years ago.
I agree with your tips and observations! I disagree with the implication that people did makeup badly in the past and know better now. There have ALWAYS been keen-eyed people who eschewed trends to apply these tricks (and more) for naturally beautiful makeup.
This video is the most helpful one I’ve watched on this subject. You show relatable examples and critique with a big dash of kindness. Thank you!
Agree with most, just I kinda liked how the colorful blush look on the ladies you showed! That looked fantastic on them
Same. On some faces lots of blush on the apples of the cheeks is adorable! As an individualist, I fully support wearing whatever makeup makes you happiest at any age. Who cares if it's not trending anymore or doesn't make you look natural or younger? But if you are trying to look chic and very modern, then her advice is good. It's all about why you wear it in the first place. :)
I love makeup and probably wear more than she suggests, but it’s who I am. Not gaudy, just not the “no makeup” look. 😊
This! The woman in glasses at 13:39 looks SO GOOD! I didn't expect that to be a no-no look lol I could sign right now for looking like her at that age. But I guess it's a matter of taste, I'm more into the colorful craziness than classical elegance.
I got my eyebrows tattoo when I was 50. I only have half eyebrows, and it made such a great difference, and made my face look a lot more fresh and complete. That was the best thing i have done for myself, and its still looking nice, 3 years later 😍
Same here. Best money I ever spent in terms of less products to buy and time spent trying to draw my brows. When they fade a bit more I will go back for a re-do. I got microblading, not tattoo
@@PoshPilgrim1776 Yes microblading was the name, couldnt remember....☺️
Where have you been my whole life? Your tips are so helpful and delivered with such kindness ❤
I love bright colors on my eyes.
When I first got into makeup in the 90s I remember reading in magazines (more than once) that the start of the brow should be in line with the edge of the nasal alae. For most women this isn't the most flattering, especially if they have a wider nose, the brows end up too far apart.
I use my eye for the start and end of the brow.
Yep and now my brows are kinda stuck far apart. I'm finally getting the tiniest bit of growth back between but it usually falls out quickly and I'm back to square one. I'm just trying to rock it and not feel too self-conscious!
I remember that, because I followed that tip.
Thank you for remembering the more mature ladies. I've been making all of these mistake, lol. Very helpful video.
You have the best information on you tube
As you get older lipstick will feather if place at the edge of your lips. It's hard to control. Putting more pigment inside lip line and blotting outward will help, and the saturation looks more natural. The lips still have full volume, just not fake or bleeding outline.
Spot on, as always - sending this video to my mum and aunt! Aly, can you make a makeup tutorial for your own look of the day? Especially your eye makeup is gorgeous!
I loved your encouragement to keep makeup application simple. 🥰
Fabulous advice! I loved this video, especially where you talked about the unimportance of wrinkles in the whole aesthetic of your style and how you look. I agree 100%, which is why I will not have plastic surgery or filler. I am 72 and get frequent compliments on the way I look because I take care of my body with yoga and weights, I don't dye my hair but wear it stylishly cut, and I avoid heavy makeup in favor of softer, more natural colors. As Diana Vreeland once said, "There are no ugly girls -- only lazy ones."
This is helpful. Previous to this last year I looked much younger than my age. But this last year has been hard and I caught up and look awful at 65 - older than my 93 year old mother. I also gained 10 pounds. I’m very depressed. This helps because I have no idea about make up and I am going to try. I’m going up to stay with my oldest grandkids and I’m going to have my 20 year old Grandaughter go shopping for makeup with me.
💞stop that negative talk right this second! I bet you look far from awful. Get a gorgeous red lipstick when you go shopping, pamper yourself, have fun with your granddaughter🤩
Makeup Wakeup by Sandy Linter, makeup artist to actresses and models, was published 2011 so the product recs are outdated, but she has many helpful techniques for older women. I bought a used copy on Amazon.
All very good points! As we age, our face loses volume, color & definition-it's so easy to add too much makeup and detract from appearance. Another one I would add is not to use much powder and to make sure skin is hydrated before applying foundation/tinted sunscreen.
Agree. I aim for a dewy look; not sparkly or shiny, just moist looking. I pair that with the slightest hint of blush so it looks natural, not applied. A matte foundation on dry skin is the worst.
@@Cherrysmith2809 I never had dry skin until my 50's, but it is definitely a factor to contend with now!
I really enjoyed this! Im 66 and been doing beauty videos for 11 years and I still learned from you today! Thank you!❤ new subbie
I absolutely love these videos Aly! Thank you!
I’m 47 and so glad you talk about less makeup… I don’t wear anything other than brow gel and red lipstick. I do get my lashes done and I prioritise laser for my skin instead of makeup. If I ever do think that some face makeup is a good idea I quickly change my mind as I just seems to enhance any flaws!
Thanks again and can’t wait for the next one ❤
You are so informative and uplifting of all women! Fanned and faved.
I just love the information in your videos! I will be 70 years old at the end of this year. Happily, I have made adjustments in my makeup over the last several years because of aging and not wanting to look dated i.e. shiny highlight under the eyebrows. Based on the info in this video, I am doing most everything correctly. But I think I should make an adjustment on how I do my eyebrows from the advice you shared.
This is an amazing subject that not many people are talking about. Thank you for all the tips, I'm going to watch all the recommended video's and look forward to seeing what comes next.
You look so stunning Aly! You always do but your hair and outfit really suit you here. Also you really favor your mother these days ive been noticing❤
Great video! I think I’ve been darkening my eyebrows too heavily in the middle of my face bc I am a winter, and I look good with more-than-average drama. But, I’m going to try toning down the wide/square/dark starting point of my eyebrows in the center. Thank you for this video.
Love "red lipsticks". Super vidéo💄💄💄
One problem with the brows is that those with thyroid problems will often have thinning of the outside ends of the brows. This will make the brows look uneven and the outside part looks higher and shorter. If unaddressed, thyroid problems get worse as we age. 🙄 I have no idea what to do about that.
Have you considered microblading? It looks very natural and mimics the strokes of hair.
Yes, thyroid problems. I have that. I tell people I don't shave my brows ALL the time.❤
@@kitkat3155 I have some contraindications when it comes to microblading, but it is a fantastic option for a lot of people!
Powder brows/ microshading have helped me a lot. Didnt know the thyroid was to blame...
I use Grande Brow to regrow the sparce brows.
you & your content are my favs💗
This was a great video and wonderfully informative. Thank you!
You are spot on. You are observant and kind. Everyone should do what makes them feel good, but tips like these can only elevate us - if we take the time to try it out.
Agree with almost everything, although, like someone else said, i prefer more blush, it just needs to be in the right area and eell blended. Also, the longer tail on the eyebrow suits those who have longer brows in general. If I plucked my brow tail to stop higher than the start, I would look as though Im trying to achieve that fox eye look, but unsuccessfully. My eyes are wide and straight - no slant upwards ir downwards. The tail of my eyebrow goes slightly lower than the start and that looks more youthful. Shortening it and leaving it higher looks artificial
great advice
Lovely video, Aly. Thank you.
Aly, I really appreciate your videos! You give great tips and your advice is always very balanced taking into consideration all types of faces, body types and ages. Its very informative and educational. Please keep going and thank you!
Love this video. Thank you Aly.
Absolutely love your content! ❤❤❤❤
A well-known makeup artist says that makeup looks need to be “sweeter” for aging women. I think some women fear the invisibility that comes with being an older woman and can’t let go of dramatic makeup. Better to be overlooked rather than noticed for things that are unflattering (too heavy, too shiny, too much in general).
Exactly👍🏼
Thank you, Aly !
Excellent advice, love this video! I'm 52, and am planning on implementing some of these ideas.
WOW!! What excellent advice! Best ever. Thank you for talking about older women.
The pictures are ki''ing me hahahaha. I feel like I have been transported back to Yugoslavia in the 1980s
Same! They remind me of my russian aunts lol
Thank you for this information as a mature 64 year old this was very helpful ❤
Would you be able to post the names of the two lipsticks that you showed us on your hand?
Yes, please!
Aly you are just so beautiful!
Great video! Thank you!❤
THis was wonderful ! I will soon be 61 and have salt and pepper hair . Those brow tips were fantastic !
I agree with everything you said. But also a soft winged liner instead of that thick black (or turquoise 😅) smudged bottom lid liner would upgrade a lot of older women’s makeup A LOT.
Just wait another 5 years. Everyone will be doing heavy black AND turquoise smudged bottom liner! 😅 What goes around…. Caitlyn Moran will always be in style. 😊
I was hoping for more makeup videos from you as your vids give my looks an upgrade for flamboyant gamine and soft classic looks… woohoo watching this now 💖🤍🥹
Gorgeous dress 🥰
i love and appreciate your videos - they are so valuable - thank you so much💖
I don't know which looks worse: underdrawing, or overlining.
Maybe some hot takes but: the women at 11:40 look amazing with their colourful makeup and I don’t think it’s aging at all, the clothing and hair were more aging. I also like the shaved beginning of eyebrows. The dark under eye makeup being too close to the eye line makes the face look longer, and can potentially make women with thin and long faces look much older as a result.
IMO things that *can* be aging if you don’t have them naturally are : arched eyebrows (can make the face look longer/thinner), lifted upturned eye makeup (when the person never had upturned eyes even in youth it looks unnatural and harsh), obvious fake tans, contouring under the cheekbones for thin faces and overly dark eye makeup is always going to look more mature. These things apply to younger people as well, and if someone young wants to look older they generally do these things I listed.
Those women that you pointed out look very dated with their colorful makeup
Colorful makeup doesn't necessarily look DATED!! You just need to update application techniques to look more modern. I often do rainbow eye makeup...it looks extremely modern!!
You are so good at explaining things 🎉🎉 thank you🍀
Great video!
Great advice! Thank you!
Love this topic!
At the 10:05 mark! You nailed it, Aly!
❤loved your pointers !!! So well delivered !!❤
Tolles hilfreiches Video Aly, danke dafür.
Das Kleid steht dir sehr gut.😊
Nice advice!
Thank you! I’m 70 and I use neutral colors always. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks
My favourite series 🤍✨
Gosh I needed to see this lol
You're the best. Thank you.
great video! as always
You are a genius! I'd very much like to know how to do my brows. Just a few days ago I had them wrongly done at a beauty salon:(
Dear Aly- Can you please do a video for the different Kibbe types current best makeup looks? As a Dramatic/Soft Dramatic ??? natural no makeup looks do not work for me.
You mentioned how the outer corner of the eye can start to droop and make you look sad. That is my #1 problem! I have fairly round eyes, not really hooded, but the outer corner has a fold that extends into the crows feet area. Looks almost like winged eye-liner, but curving down and out.
You are a treasure!
It’s good to see my friend Kerry-Lynn as a “do” example!
I would, though, love to see a video from you on make up applications on older women!!!!!
Quite a few makeup artists on youtube for older women
@@PoshPilgrim1776 and they are all overfiltered.
Hey could you do “Stylish old women looks” for all body types 😍
That was really good one 👌
Aly you're a treasure 🙏❤
Great video
Thank you 👍🏻🌻 love your videos 🫶
Please, please do an updated makeup tutorial for mature women. I am still following your video from 9;years ago on how to make your eyes look larger. 😂 could you also include your everyday makeup tutorial as well? Thanks!❤
Loved this. I suscribed 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Totally agree with the brows. I have good brows. The closer your brows the thinner your nose looks
I LOVE YOUR CONTENT!! I'm 57 so keeping my ears and eyes open 🙂
Благодарю вас, ваши советы мне очень помогают.
It isn't always OVER Tweezing. They begin to stop growing. I never plucked much but at 56 thinning. Not their fault. But filling in is a good thing
Great video. What is the red gloss you had used on your hand?
I'm 42 and I dress like a teenager. I share clothes with my daughter who is 15 and I k ow I can look like teash if I am not careful. I wish u were one of my bffs to help me ❤️
I’m a young looking 70 year old. I haven’t worn eye makeup in decades because I have crepey lids. Please give me some hints to apply lid color.
Nikol Johnson does videos for older women
I never wear eye liner..as my eyes are deep set..I stick to kohl pencil and smudge it Fair hair and green eyes!..neutral colours only ♥️ btw deepset does not mean heavy lids, quite the opposite!
The dark haired lady at 1.23 is Lynda Bellingham she died 10 years ago from cancer and at the time of the photo was being treated with chemotherapy amazing really she was even there maybe not a good choice of image.
Is there a certain shade of red to use?
I've been accused of overplucking between my brows. But I don't pluck or wax. The ends are sparse too. Been practicing drawing them on but can't get them even.
Microblading is a game changer. Otherwise you might like brow stencils from Nikol Johnson
I have always liked your videos, kind, current, gentle, and low fluff factor. I am learning so much from you. Could you please add timestamps to your content? Thank you,
I don’t wear blush at all and I just used one eye shadow colour, medium brown for 20 years. I don’t like pale lipstick. I use berry color lipstick.
Pale lips on an older woman looks corpse-like
This was so good! Well dang I’m going to have to give up my underbrow highlighter 😂😂
