I resisted being typed as a Natural for the longest time but this video convinced me that I am a Soft Natural. Often videos show boho style which is NOT my style - I prefer chic and minimalist, and your examples opened my eyes to how good that can look.
Thank you, this was very helpful! For a future topic, I’m curious about the most flattering way to wear scarves. I love scarves, especially silk patterned ones and love how they look on others but find when I wear them, it doesn’t quite work. Maybe to do with body type and how it’s tied/draped?
Oh it definitely does. I do know about silk ones (sounds classic) but winter scares for SN that do.not look good with high necklines as she said) so I do not go for small geometric but kinda leaning Lenny Kravitz, huge light ones than can go around the neck and still fall loosely over the body
I’m mostly Soft Dramatic but maybe part Natural too (I don’t have a very well-defined waist.) I have large chest and square shoulders, long legs &arms. My rear is not round :-(. I do find the drop waist works well on me! I usually wear things that emphasize my bustline and long legs, but I have such a hard time finding clothes that flatter my waistline! I wish I could get beyond leggings and tunic tops!
God really decided to give us shorter Naturals his toughest battles Edit: sometimes I really wish designers would come up with a new era of dress designs specifically made for us Naturals. FG had their moment with Audrey, R with Marylin, G with Twiggy, and there are so many designers dresses that seems they were made specifically for D in mind etc, but for Ns (N and SN mostly) we mainly have to work with whatever we can find. People say 2000s fashion was more focused on N and SN , but idk, I mostly remember pants, low rise jeans et more urban wear from that era. We never had our glamorous N era
@moemoeanisong but what you're saying isn't true at all. Do many stars are naturals they dominate the screen and music. Brittany Spears is a famous soft natural. Princess Diana a famous FN, most of the original super models and half the Victoria secret models as well. Also from the 2000s all those slip dresses only looked great on the flamboyant naturals.... Take another look . It's the most common type in the general public, so that's what stores sell now they are well catered for
Thanks for sharing. 👍Would you be able to do a video on long hair styles for soft gamines? I just feel more feminine with my hair shoulder length or longer.
I think it would be cool if you did a video where you analyze the body types of people and their family members. Like to see what kind of variances there are between siblings, or between parents and their kids. I’m SC, my sister after me is SG, and I’m not sure what my younger sister is yet she’s not fully grown, but I feel like she will have a vertical line unlike me or my sister.
I'd love a video for women with short torso and long legs. I'm a gamine (FG in the new classification). My torso is really short (like crop tops aren't really cropped on me 😅). Sometimes it's hard to balans the proportion with waist emphasis to not end up looking like there's just boobs and then legs staring away...
she used to say she's a soft gamine, but then she said she was wrong about it. I don't know if she already has said what type she think she is, but she promised she would do that. hope that helps ^^
I got a color analysis recently for carol Brailey and I was a true winter but I’m in the natural family I think. I don’t know how to balance my color pallet and body type.
hi Aly, this is more of a complicated request, but what would you say about trying to maintain a style of your own while also trying to wear your own lines?
Aly, in 1975 i went to Joan Sanger’s house in oakland around the corner from me and got my colors done. She also taught a course which covered all this stuff about essences and body types. I am a Natural. John Kitchener a protege of hers and Ron Sackmans did my son’s colors in Oakland a few years ago and typed him as a Natural and said wear whatever brad pitt wears….haha. Are you familiar with these people. I don’t know how Kibbe fits into them but it’s exactly the same stuff. I have signed up for Kibbe’s november book on amazon. Love to hear the history that includes, Joan sanger, Ron Sackman and John Kitchener. And wear Kibbe fits into their evolution. I know there was a hollywood lady back in the 20s that began it all. Thanks in advance and love to hear from you. I watch all of your very informed videos.. when will YOU write a book?
Aly, I wonder if you can help me 🤔 It’s a challenge and I’m fed up and feel lost. Ok, I’m 62 years young, and have always loved fashion, make up and hair. The last four years I’ve had two failed operations for a prolapsed bladder that has put a stop to the power walking I loved to do. All in all I have gained weight around my middle with the added daily discomfort. Finding clothing that is comfortable let alone fashionable is hard. I’m 5ft 4”. Any suggestions would be welcome🤷🏻♀️ 🙏🏻🫶🏻
Aly, can you please give advice about the body types after 40? I grew up classic. But my current proportions are more stomach. I feel like a romantic without the narrow waist. How do I hide my belly weight while continuing to accentuate my natural figure?
I have that theatrical romantic dress on the thumbnail. Despite that I have wide shoulders(in my opinion), people always compliment how good it looks on me.😅
@sandrasrm9815 I don't like sharp halter dresses on Romantics, even slightly sharper TRs. They look amazing on my Natural friends and celebs alike because it shows their shoulders and muscles nicely. Some Dramatics and Dramatic Classics look great too. I'm a Gamine and they look horrible on me at every weight.
Yes. I think she has a video on this. Some men look better in loose clothing, others in a fitted slim look. This is because they are different body types.
I appreciate your explanation and examples...but I'm still unsure which body type I am. It's just too much - LOL. I'm 5' 2", small bone structure, small breasts, evenly proportioned. I guess I could be natural or classic.
@glassawata lots of FNs look great in that cut because it is in harmony with width or horizontal artistic lines. These are Ally's personal guesses for discussion and entertainment. She doesn't dress people for a living.
No… long and short legs are beautiful 🤩. Long legs are just one more unique feature about you. Who doesn’t want that? Wear outfits that reflect your lines and composition (musculature, flesh, and bone structure). If the clothing silhouette harmonizes with your natural body, it will be amazing ❤
It depends on which body type you’re referring to. Soft Naturals, Soft Dramatic, and Romantic can all be described as voluptuous, but all expressed in different ways
@@MsMyraEmily mmm in general, I wouldn't describe as delicate, because you know, delicate is something fragile-like,and voluptuousness can look soft, but not delicate.

Ok, thank you that makes sense. I’m always drawn to the classic but alas I’m a N. 🙃
Thank you Aly. Please do a video on evening gowns for the body types. Thank you,
Aly you are amazing! Thank you.
🙏🙏🙏
This was wonderful! Thank you Aly ❤
I learned so much from ur videos Aly, love u and thank u ☘️🌸💝🩵🌹
I would love to see a video of how you style your hair in your music videos. The waves are so pretty.
I think an A-line skirt could probably work for a romantic/theatrical romantic with ingenue essence
I agree!...
@@thehalfbloodserb or a full ingenue woman that isnt tr or r. Just ingenue.

I'm the exact opposite! My torso is wayyy longer than my legs - my husband is taller than me, but when we sit next to each other I seem taller 😂
Thanks Aly for this vidéo🖤🖤🖤
Aly did you ever say what type you are?
I think flamboyant gamine? But it's just a vague memory, so 'don't quote me on that', as they say.
Soft Gamine I believe but that was years ago. Don't know if she's changed it since
she used to say she's a soft gamine, but then she said she was wrong about it.
I don't know if she already has said what type she think she is, but she promised she would do that. hope that helps ^^
Im assuming she would have been a straight up gamine had kibbe not gotten rid of them.
Not soft enough to be a SG. Maybe a FG.
very helpful, thank you!

content idea: what if you get models of the 5 body types and dress them?
Flamboyant gamine is always like half minute video. Why so short my friend? Good advice but compared to other body types it’s the shortest.
I feel the same.
quite literally skimmed right through FG😭
Yes,is always the last...I think she doesnt like this ID...
Same feelings 🤔
I have also noticed it. But I always thought it is because they slay almost everything! The most versatile ID in my opinion.

Which body type best suits a-line shape?
I think A line would look good on most people, maybe not so flattering on shorter individuals or people who are heavier.
I have a question: do these rules apply to men too? Meaning: can men be divided into the after mentioned categories?
Yes. I think she has a video on this. Some men look better in loose clothing, others in a fitted slim look. This is because they are different body types.

I think the main problem with gamine dressing is not being too feminine or masculine.
a minimalist approach with some details, but not big details.
Either Im the only FN that looks great in a tube top, or Im totally dysmorphic because its my favorite cut😅
@glassawata lots of FNs look great in that cut because it is in harmony with width or horizontal artistic lines. These are Ally's personal guesses for discussion and entertainment. She doesn't dress people for a living.

Romantics are not the only women considered as sexy. There are a lot of women who are considered sexy who are not Romantics.
I literally rewatched this twice to see if I had missed Aly saying this. She doesn’t. I’m not sure what you’re referring to?
