    If you want to look youthful, don't let bitterness rule your life. It will do more for your face than concealer. The perpetual journey to looking youthful is like a dog chasing his tail. Those that look past you because your old will have their turn. Enjoy life.

    2 yrs ago I stopped dying my hair- its to my shoulders now, 100% silver and I have never loved my color as much as now. Its ok to be 64. I wear fun pinks and all different funky baggy jeans, scarves and hats. its wonderful to let go and be free to express yourself.

    5:03 The hair on the right is BEAUTIFUL! Very adjustable and modern. Wave or curl or texture spray can be added for more movement. It’s actually what I’d consider a “bowl” cut.

  • @cynthiamurphy3669
    @cynthiamurphy3669 7 місяців тому +2

    As someone already said, the styles at around 5:03 are appealing. I was actually relieved to see those, since it pretty much looks like what I've been doing with my own. I'm near 70 and cut my own hair shorter these days but always want a bit more length with some curl and volume on the sides and top. What I usually do is old school roll it on top most nights, so easy to do, though the curl doesn't hold as well when summer comes. Oh, and no more bobs ever again for me, too much work on my fine hair, and one side always is more difficult to deal with. And I always have some bangs.

    I laughed when you described how to make small strands of bangs on curlier haired women so it won't "piss you off". Bangs have always "pissed me off"! I could never understand how women can stand hair anywhere near their face. I agree that older women (like me, I'm 69) should keep up to date in their hair styles. Our colouring fades as we age - your skin and hair - making deep strong colours (make up or hair dye) jarring. Love the photos your share Aly! Thank you for another really helpful and entertaining video.

    I actually liked the woman on the far left of 12:56 - and I almost always prefer natural hair shades on middle aged and older women! The hair cut was rather flattering, and the dark strands provided a bit of whimsy to what would otherwise be an uneventful style. I also think it flattered her appearance: the dark sections sweeping under the chin helped define her jaw.
    Assessing her face, we see frown lines between her brows - which can make women look angry and unapproachable. The lighthearted hair styling counteracts that effect. If I had to guess what line of work this woman was in, I’d think it was either in a creative/artistic field, or has something to do with interacting with people: real estate, a teacher, or some kind of administrative position which requires a lot of meetings (like a hospital administrator). So while at first glance this woman’s hair may look odd, it could be serving her very well in her professional capacity. As you said - lifestyle needs to be taken into account.

    I am so happy you made this video!! I am 50. I realized a few years ago that makeup was aging me so I stopped wearing it. BUT that isn't looking my best, in my opinion. When I was younger I loved classic French girl makeup but my lips are shrinking🙄 so red isn't my best, and my eyes are not the worst but the dark eyeliner I used to wear just makes me look hard. Normally I have longer-than-shoulder length hair and I was going for a lob but let's just say that didn't go well and my hair hasn't been this short since I was 6. I'm making the best of it, but honestly the only thing I can do is wait for it to grow.
    Sorry for the long backstory, but this was supposed to be a thank you!😅After I watch this one I'm going to watch the makeup video mentioned here and I am so appreciative. I also love that although you're not mean, you don't tiptoe about human...ummm...uniqueness. Sparing my feelings doesn't get me out the door looking my best. You're wonderful, Aly.

      @TrinaGallo 7 місяців тому +1

      I NEVER wear makeup (aside from lipstick/ gloss) and isn’t it easier? I feel beautiful (most days lol). Confidence is attractive. But I guess it’s easy for to say because I’ve never really worn makeup (except when I was going out clubbing as a teen- my 20’s.) But now in my 40’s, it makes me look older.If I’m getting glammed up these days, I wear a tinted moisturizer. I think that’s SO COOL that you were born with such a unique hair color.! 💕Like Elizabeth Taylor with her violet eyes!

    • @CleoHarperReturns
      @CleoHarperReturns 7 місяців тому +1

      @@TrinaGallo Yeah, my confidence has been...sagging.😆It is much easier without daily makeup, and also easier to keep my skin nice as well. However when I stopped wearing it, I was thinking it didn't matter because it was me and my pup against the world! I felt like I needed no one else and didn't really care how others saw me.
      I wouldn't call it letting myself go, as much as appreciating my dog's snuggles and sensitive nose. I'd also retired about the same time. It was so stress-free, not having to go through the never-ending routines just to leave the house every day. I wanted to wallow in that freedom for a little while. Which turned into years.
      As it happens, Cooper -- my beautiful boy, the Dog of My Life -- passed last October.💔 I was no longer looking at myself through his eyes.💔 After I took that knife out of my heart I realized two things: First, I did need people after all. Second, it had been a long time since I actually paid any attention to my face. Etc.
      Now, playing around with makeup is fun again, as well as doing my hair, etc. So as long as I feel it's something I enjoy I'll keep exploring but I'll definitely never go back to full face again. Seeing my skin as skin and not a mask (read: foundation) has had a major effect on me.
      I'm not exactly sure what you meant by my unique hair color. I didn't think I mentioned it; my hair color is basically a mousey light ashe brown with a lot of gray. What does one do when they suffer a great loss? Change their hair of course. I bleached then dyed it a pink champagne blonde but just a touch of really warm pink. Definitely not natural but I think it suits me. Brings out the green in my (hazel) eyes. The extreme haicut was *not* a part of the plan. My mom's a retired hairdresser but let's just say she had a moment. She's 76; she's allowed to have a moment. My hair will grow back. In about a year. Maybe two.😥But absolutely Liz Taylor's eyes were so unique and beautiful!
      I've chatted your ear off long enough, my apologies. You seem like a nice person and that's so refreshing I went a little overboard.
      😊If we ever e-meet again I'll try to pull it back in a bit.💖

    • @TrinaGallo
      @TrinaGallo 7 місяців тому +1

      @@CleoHarperReturns First, my condolences for your loss. Cooper was like your child. So the makeup-free decision was at a really low point in your life. No work, no Cooper… 😢
      But I’m glad you saw benefits to your skin, and the freedom. I’m glad you’re not going back to makeup on your skin. And if the eye makeup, etc. is having a positive effect, go for it! It looks pretty for people who do wear it in moderation.
      👩‍🎤 Wow, that’s awesome!
      By unique, I mean my original natural color was light auburn/ gold. Then started going gray, got highlights many times, but my virgin ??? is to my cheekbone, and the previously highlighted is from there to my waist. I get color glazes every 8-10 months but it’s semi permanent so no damage. But the virgin color is… unique! Sparkly white, blond, and some red/ gold.

    • @CleoHarperReturns
      @CleoHarperReturns 7 місяців тому +1

      @@TrinaGallo Thank you so much, Trina! I've had other dogs before but Cooper was just special. All dogs are special of course, but if you're a dog lover you know there's the one that reaches straight in and sniffs out your heart. Then of course wants to chew on it.🙄😆
      I am definitely not sad about not working though. With the exception of my dog I like spending a lot of time alone, always have. I seem to need a lot of social recharging. There's always a project; that kind of stress is so much nicer than work stress. If I screw up my own stuff I can just do it over again.
      I read somewhere that if you line your eyes with the same color as the rings around your iris (if you have rings) that it really makes your eyes stand out in a subtle way, so I tried it, cool gray. Wouldn't you know it that was just what I needed?? No hard line, just smudged on the top lids only (my eyes are droopy so I skip lining the bottoms). I do my lips now pretty much the same as you and use a cream blush. I'm thinking about contour (that 50 yo neck) but other than that I'm thinking less is definitely more at this age. We must have the same kind of wrinkles because you can't see mine unless I put makeup on them either. But don't worry, you don't have the same wrinkles as a 50 yo; my whole family looks 10 years younger. Wish we got that skinny gene.😆
      I've always loved auburn hair, natural or otherwise. Aside from it being so pretty and catching light like no other, I think there's also a (good) attitude that comes with auburn. My mother (Edwina Scissorhands) says whenever I share a video with her the UA-camr seems to have auburn hair, no matter the country she's from. It's not an attraction thing on my end but just something of notice.
      I use semi-permanent as well. There's just something about being able to change your color whatever you want, whenever you want, and go back to default blonde. In my case, I was able to dye it temporarily back to brown to attend a funeral back home (distant distant family, met the poor woman twice). I have several older brothers and I just didn't want to hear about pink hair on a 50 yo woman. Nor any of the jokes that went with the critique, as brothers do. Went home and was lilac for a week. Easier than changing nail polish.
      So a question about clear glazes (if you know): since they're semi-permanent, I assume they don't use developer, just like the dye? And also is it possible to have both on your hair, or does the glaze pull out the color? Or is it possible to mix them? When I do an oil leave-in, whenever I wash it out it takes the color with it. I could go for a more expensive color deposit but I like the even shorter lifespan of cheaper deposits for reasons mentioned.
      Oh hell, I've done it again haven't I? It's got to be late wherever you are. I'll let you get some rest. Again it's been so nice chatting with you! This must be the most I've ever babbled on about makeup etc in my life.💄

    You are absolutely correct ! I'm growing my hair out now....I had to cut it all off back in January 2024 due to allergic reaction to hair dye....I said enough is enough. It's not worth my health to dye my hair my original dark brown so I have transitioned to platinum blond and it's looking good....however, now am in the "grow out" stage and every morning I wake up to a "bowl head" just as you described, but I have a great hair gel I use to slick it down and back....making it look more elegant. Once I apply my make up in the morning and slick my hair back, I look half way decent...but wow...when I look at myself in the mirror when I first wake up I think....UGH....Great video. Thank you

    Thanks for this video! Some of the images that you have in this video ARE wigs on models. I think if someone wants to look better, they should try some wigs to see what really suits them and there face shape, and lifestyle. You should look into today's wigs. They are beautiful and can transform people's lives. You can not tell that it is a wig. People tend to keep the same hairstyle forever. That is what ages us! Color is a problem too. Wigs may be a way to see yourself differently without the haircut and color that you might not like.

    This was a great video. I have natural curly hair if you can call it curly. It’s more kinky and frizzy and full of air. I’m 60 years old. The women in my family have thin hair. You can see their scalp. You can see right through my hair. A few years ago, I started wearing human hair wigs. They are gorgeous. I wear them to my hairdresser, and she cuts and styles them in my head. These wigs are from Daniel Allan, by Follea. The quality is unprecedented. When she cuts my hair, she’s proudness and says, “no one will ever know. Haha No one will ever know.” She makes me feel good, but it’s true. Even our neighbor whose a hair dresser couldn’t tell. She thought I pulled my hair straight. 😂 my husband said what you said. Don’t bother with makeup, just put the wig in if you don’t have time for both. Thank goodness for wigs.

    You’re so funny! I was all rock ‘n roll in the 80s (dressed like Joan Jett) but had my hair cut like Princess Diana’s. I’d never wear my hair like that now; you’re spot on about your hair being the biggest indicator of age (with raccoon eyes a strong second).

    Aly, please help ! My hair didn't turn gray but pure snowy white. It is quite striking. It is
    thin so I sometimes wear wigs. I'm advised to get a wig with dark roots and the hair platinum so it will look natural. My natural roots are white/platinum. Why should I choose an unnatural feature to make me look natural? Pure white hair doesn't grow from dark brown roots! What to do? Thank you SO much for everything!!! Really good. My naturally black hair began to look too hard, as I aged. I do go lighter now, and it makes less shadows on the face as well as might compliment my skin a bit better, esp now that I am older. I don’t do cool brown, as I am olive skinned. It looks better on me to have warmer highlights, but that may be just my preference!

    To add, whats trendy in America, for example might not reach another country for years sometimes. Also, if most people around where you live and tend to have the same look, people have a tendency to mirror others. Others get locked into a look they had 20-30 yrs ago. What might have looked in style then, only looks out of style now. That's where the aging you can come in. Might help to go through magazines or photos of those woman you like of and pin them. You can start to define what you like about yourself and try out various new looks to see what suits the new you x amount if years later. Doesn't mean you're changing you whole aesthetic, you're just refining it.

    Loved this video. However, I am a soft natural and recall from the Kibbe videos that our hair should look a bit untidy. Regarding the highlights ~ Gitta Banko is a gorgeous 50+ influencer with highlighted hair. Do you think her hair is achieved by the smudging technique you mentioned? My hair is much thicker than other 58 year olds and already ash brown but I wanted to get highlights again. It is naturally wavy (not big curls like the pictures you’ve shown) so I have to use a flat iron to get my hair to look anything like Gitta’s hair.

I tried the entire head blonde thing in my 20s, and this is nothing like that. This is more sophisticated, fashionable, youthful, and lovely. Also tried straightening and curling irons. Dyson Airwrap is ok, but curls still frizz after while. Only way to avoid that 80’s hair seems to be to pull it back in a low, tiny bun.
