I love it when super bosses have a explanation for their existence in the story of the game. Sure it's fine to just have a super boss that basically only exists in gameplay to be one last challenge but giving the superboss some cool lore can add a lot of flavor.
That's one thing I love about the WEAPONs of FF7. They have a wonderful explanation in the story, and are honestly great bosses. I wonder with the FF7R project with do with them.
thats why I think one of the great super-bosses from a lore perspective in the series is specifically, Deumion from FF2(anniversary edition). especially with the lore behind the Destroy spell and the tragicness of how he became an eternal guardian, protecting that spell for eternity til Firion and party shows up. it, next to soul of rebirth's Emperor of Heaven, really cements FF2 as a very nice lore-rich game in a good amount of aspects despite the low amount of dialogue. Deumion's ""that is most unfortunate.." as he closes his eyes before he battles you, is something that always stuck with me. he is deff the easiest superboss in the entire series, but the lore surrounding him and his summon, Phrekyos, is very neat.
Oh come now surely... Nope your right. But I will say that the FF8 ones are the easiest for me, just because 8 is my favourite in the franchise so I have beaten them yearly at this point.
If FF9 remake happens I really hope we learn more about Ozma, I remember people would speculate about how it's an eidolon that's so powerful it's unable to sustain a physical form in the human world and that's so fierce. I want this to be elaborated on.
I can't remember if this was in-game or fanon, but I distinctly remember it being an eidolon from Terra rather than Gaia, like the Ark. However, as eidolons are formed from belief/memory/wishes (like real Gods, in a sense), whatever Ozma was had somehow been almost completely forgotten from the collective unconsciousness; all that remains is a swirling ball of colour, presumably brief glimpses of the few parts of it that somehow remain, jumbled and vague.
@@GuyDude-hk8uyI'm pretty sure most info on Ozma is speculations from fans, I remember it having a quick description on theatrythm but as far as I know that's about it
I just like to imagine that, we are seeing its true form. Just’s just an eidolon based off of it’s element but that element is not officially classified as an element in FF: GRAVITY.
About that the PS4 remasters infinite HP cheat for FF9 is useless you can still DIE if you have 9999 HP at lv 99 and Ozma's Meteor spell at random CAN hit for 9999 damage while Doomgaze the FF6 boss is a required battle in FF9 at lv 75 with like 3000 to 4000 HP even ITS Meteor can still 1 shot a lv 75 party with that much HP. But its still NOT a SUPER boss in FF6 that belongs to the Magic Master Tower boss without at least 8000 HP on all his Ultima upon death can do at least that much when he dies at 50,000 MP if you can't use Auto Life/Life 3 phoenix esper spell then you have no option BUT to drop his MP to 79 or less since Ultima still costs 80 MP when that boss dies. But in the GBA version at least 2 Dragons den bosses use Ultima when they die the first being the Red dragon their but the Red dragon can't be killed until it dies from old age so even MP draining spells will fail to kill it and draining like 65,000 MP the Kaiser dragon has 3 times so that it dies and can't use Ultima upon its 3rd forms death isn't worth it either.
@@aelechkoyou're on a youtube video about optional bosses in jrpgs. We're all dorks bro, no need to try to spin being good at vidya into a bad thing. That's a normie tactic
As someone who is a Final Fantasy fan, played almost all the Final Fantasy games and plays Square Enix's games, my biggest struggle of all Super Bosses was *Galdera the Fallen* in Octopath Traveler 2. That boss was way beyond my IQ, especially that freaking *Omniscient Eye.*
I like how the FFVII weapons were part of the planet's immune system, and they could definitely take out Sephiroth, but the players are the real threat that destroys the planet's only defenses.
I remember I ended up cheesing Ultima Weapon in FFVIII by including a really low level party member to lower its level (calculated by the average of your party). It was still a rough battle because I ended up with only the equivalent of two party members, but for me the tradeoff was worth it (just barely).
I remember the first time I faced Ultima Weapon in FFVIII. My entire party was level 100. 😭 I ended up having to look up a strategy and that's how I learned abut the dynamic level thing.
Even at lv 100 The End almost NEVER triggers so I used a holy war/hero's on a lv 99 Rinoa Squall Zell lv 100 against Omega Rinoa can't be at lv 100 for the Angel Wing meteor setup since to null lv 5 death odds are angel wing itself would actually use the death spells and not Meteor against Omega and Omega tends to start with it and I'd rather not let anybody DIE from lv 5 death ever.
I went against Ultima with very little understanding what I was getting into. Squall still had the second to last weapon so no Lion Heart (didn't even know that weapon existed at the time since I missed the magazine). Thank god for holy wars and auras.
Ultima was always level 100 in the original. Omega as well. The scaling for them didn't come til the remaster. Though if you're low-leveling and even make it there, you're probably already junctioned well enough to do fine still.
Gotta love when superbosses are part of a post-game quest. Also, think you guys can do a video on the evolution restorative magic (cure, cura, raise, etc.)?
I remember you covering this topic before but a new version with the growth the channel has made is definitely appreciated because I love this topic and it deserves top caliber production
Good luck! I added 6 hours to my game time, and gained 57 levels to hit 99 for the first time ever (boosters were on but still...). I've never had so much trouble finding the rare encounters until this collection lol
He's tough, but several Lunar Subterranean bosses are arguably tougher than he is. But, most of them aren't hidden like Bahamut is (other than, ironically, Dark Bahamut).
Yup. There's Omega, I believe 13 Original Creations, 8 Dark Aeons (10 if you count the sisters separately), and Penance. 23 superbosses at the lowest count 🤣
Of the superbosses I've faced in games like Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza, and FF, the only ones ive never killed were in FFXV. Maybe i just suck but those bosses were BRUTAL
Also, I agree with what a youtuber named DarkKefka said. Ozma definitely is pretty random if you'll win or not if you're going in blindly. You REALLY have to break down it's AI. It's insane. But those that fully understand it can actually win low level solo fights against it (like a Freya in single digit levels taking it on)
I remember in FFIV 2 Mad Ogres awaited you in a box in Damcyan (I think). They were kind of sort of like superbosses in the sense that they would usually attack first and about 3 times each. Resulting in One hit KOs if you’re not prepared.
Eblan Castle had three Monster chests which you could reach as soon as you got the airship, and they would absolutely wreck you at that point in the game. And the rewards weren't even that great. The Drain spear is only really useful as a thrown weapon for Edge. And the Slumber Sword for Cecil is quickly outclassed by the Flame sword you can find in the Tower of Zot.
About that theirs a few of those time stopping hour glass items I owned enough to make sure those Elban enemies are stopped at the start since even my LV 40 Paladin Cecil and LV 45 Yang would NOT survive a single turn without slop in effect. Drain spear is useful IE killing the Pink Puffs FOR the almost NEVER dropped Pink Tails since HP drain weapons tend to hit those for like 4000+ HP so that Kain and Cecil against those would never die against them.
In the english release, Ultima & Omega weapon in FF8 were always level 70 and level 100 respectively; regardless of average party level. Also if you didn't fight Bahamut before disc 4 you would fight it in Ultimecias's castle instead of Tiamat (though the fight itself didn't change iirc; only the boss name and scan details).
Good video, although I noticed a couple inaccuracies: 13:57 As shown in later footage, Deathgaze did not originally appear on the map in the SNES and GBA versions and was invisible; that dark void thing was added later. 29:05 The way Ozma's extra turns work is that, if Ozma is not currently performing an action animation, and the player gives ANY command to any character, Ozma will immediately get an extra turn before the character can execute their command. Thus, you can bypass this mechanic by waiting for Ozma to act first, then inputting commands before it finishes. Although I didn't fight Ultima Weapon/Omega Weapon in FF8 myself, judging by other comments it appears that their level scaling was also only added in later releases, whereas they were always level 100 in the original.
For the giggles, I kind of hope they give mention to Culex from Super Mario RPG. He may not be an actual FF character, but he is cut from the exact same cloth so to speak. Excellent super boss and a cool gateway character for those curious about the aesthetic of Final Fantasy.
More lore about, possibly, my fav gaming franchise of all time.. Love your videos, been here for years & hopefully more to come. Keep up the amazing work! 💪👏👊💯
Ozma being an Eidolon from Terra would make sense, it normally is able to absorb the Shadow element to heal itself, which it could hit everything with using Doomsday and was also the element used by Ark. And if you want to stretch, even though it came later, FFXIV suggests that Ozma was something created by the mages of Mhach, so the same could also be true of FFIX's Ozma being created on Terra, likely as an initial attempt to attack Gaia only for the Summoners of Gaia to seal it away as the best they could do. The fact Ozma rewards you with a full Pumice, which was the item to teach garnet Ark as a Summon, makes the suggestion of Ozma's connection to Terra all the more apparent. That's just how I feel regarding Ozma thanks to its appearance in FFXIV.
It’s so wild to hear grinding referenced as something invented a while back. I feel old. I still love a good grind on these oldie rpgs, put on some lofi, et al.
Correction: Ozma is not the only or first to mess with the ATB turn order. In FFVIII, if an enemy is next in the turn order, you can cut in line ahead of their turn if you input a limit break before they begin their turn (usually during an animation).
I loved the Ozma fight, because it was quick but hard and a bad combination of moves could always end you instantly. I really dislike these fights, where the boss just takes forever to beat and at worst gets a "You're dead/I'm invincible now" move near the end of the fight.
I had played FF Tactics since I was kid back in the 90s. I beat it, & remember a lot of great moments in the game. Like how Orlandu landed the killing blow against the final boss, while confused, & Ramza was about to die & give me a Game Over. Just 1 of those moments that you wish you had been recording for. Anyway, I beat the game, & in later playthroughs, discovered & explored a bit of Deep Dungeon. Sadly, I never got too far, due to navigating the maps to find those hidden spots was an absolute pain. So I never knew there was ever a Super Boss in the game. Knowing that now, gives me more incentive to go back to either the PS1 or PSP version for a good does of nostalgia.
My friend: Odd that they covered over half of the games in episode 1. Me, who knows both MMO’s are still pending: Oh trust me, they’ll need the extra time
Clicked on this video thinking it would be a general overall history of Superbossess in games, not a series of games. Still, a nice well put well-put-together video that's interesting to listen to.
I would like to point out that the Friendly Yan (FF9) is really tough to beat if you refuse to give him the item that he requests. Arguably, just as tough as Ozma and Hades.
You've made a strange mistake in the video: Deathgaze being visible on the world map is an addition of the Pixel Remaster version of FF6. In the original game and following ports before PR, it was a not-so-random encounter that was hidden on the map of the World of Ruin.
@orsonriven No, that really doesn't seem all that strange. A great many people would have first played FF6 on GBA. It's a mundane and minor aspect of the topic.
Don’t even go here, but it was on my recommended, and clicked because of the character apparently called Omega that looked like it might be an inspiration for Diaboromon/Diablomon from the Digimon Movie, and with it being a ‘secret superboss’ that fit conceptually too with a sudden superhard anime special enemy. And the name of the new Digimon that defeated it? In Japanese, was called Omegamon.
Nice video, I would have also mentioned, perhaps as honorable mentions, the friendly Yan in Final Fantasy IX and the cutted Kaiser Dragon in Final Fantasy VI. I don't know, maybe you're gonna include in the list the various additions made in the ports/remasters/remakes of the first titles in a latter video 🙂
Valuable reminder here that Omega Weapon pre-dates Ultima Weapon. Since Omega sometimes gets redesigned from mecha-spider to Ultima palette swap, that's easy to overlook. Also, Ultima technically debuted in 6, but in 7, it was redesigned - and every iteration since has been a variation on its design from 7. I'm pretty sure 6 also had the first appearance of the Ultima-palette-swap Omega.
I feel that you left out two of the original FFVI superbosses: the World of Balance's Intangir/Sleeping Lion and the World of Ruin's Brachiosaur/Brachioraidos. Both of these enemies are super bosses akin to War Mech and Testukyujin. Only found as a random encounter on the unnamed "Triangle" island in the world of Balance, Intangir, at 32,000 HP, has more HP than Atma Weapon/Ultima Weapon the "final boss" of the World of Balance. This massive beast absorbs most elements, comes pre-buffed with Float, Haste, Shell, and Protect and is immune to almost every negative status effect. Initially encountered in it's "sleeping" Invisible state, once awoken it would counter with the more powerful enemy version of Meteor before going back to sleep unless it woke up at less than 1280 Hp in which it would flee. When killed it would cast Meteor as a final attack on it's killer. The only real reward for killing it is 10 AP while the rare Magicite Shard can be stolen from it. Only found as a 1/16 random encounter in the unnamed "Dinosaur Forest," Brachiosaur can be a massive and deadly surprise to anyone level grinding on the Tyranosaurs there. This beast is a higher level than any boss in Kefka's tower with an HP total of 46,050 that rivals that of any other boss. It makes use of powerful abilities Disaster (Inflict a bunch of negative effects on the party), Meteor, Snort (remove one party member from the battlefield) and even Ultima. Once you manage to kill it it will counter with Ultima as it's final attack. 10 AP and Celestraids/Economizers are the reward for killing it and Ribbions can be stolen from it.
Intangirs are ONLY lethal if you can't Vanish Doom/or Rhodox rage (Snare) effect them and that ONLY works on the SNES/PS1 version on all others I had to wait UNTIL the WoR to actually kill them on the Veldt itself at lvs over 70.
@@veghesther3204 Vanish removing Instant Kill resistance was a bug and if you look at the Intangir capabilities outside of that exploit you need to focus on inflicting Slow and Stop on it to have a good chance of defeating in in the WoB. It is very powerful and needs a pretty specific setup to defeat it the intended way at the point where you first encounter it.
@@veghesther3204 Hello, no need to wait for WoR lol. Like @ultimatecalibur said : it is vulnerable to stop. Beating it is part of my magicite grind on every playthrough of mine.
Stop isn't the problem its that my LV 50 party would barely hit it for even 500 PER Drill/Cyans lv 4 Sword tech hits so unless your doing 5000 to 9999 against those they are NOT worth fighting the only reliable way to kill them WITHOUT that bug is to use Sabins FINAL blitz and to use it in the WoB he MUST be at lv 70 and by then those aren't worth fighting FOR Esper Magic lvs AT all.
one i'm deff curious about is if FF2's anniversary edition would be mentioned as that has 2 additional superbosses in the form of Deumion and Phrekyos(Deumion's summon that apparently, will actually replace him in the Arcane Sanctuary if you kill Deumion for the Destroy spell) the one thing I don't think I seen anyone mention about the Destroy spell, much less known, is that the Destroy spell, if it does not kill a target, becomes a hidden Secret gravity spell for the rest of the battle. you can easily see this gravity effect when its used on the Emperor of Hell as he has more than 9999 hp(15,000 total), which's a fact(gravity part of Destroy spell) that I don't think many people know. I can confirm its absolutely possible to kill the emperor with Destroy(did it myself) but he needs to not use a magic attack for that to work. from what I recall it takes somewhere around.. 5 or so casts of Destroy to kill the Emperor of Hell. its weirdly fun to do too-
The worst part about trying to defeat Warmech is the 30 minutes spent trying to get it to spawn, only for it to randomly cast nuke every turn until you die.
Dude the story of Omega and Shinryu is so cool, I wish they made a movie about it. This ancient civilization was so blighted by a God dragon that they just made a robot on par with a GOD! That is so intersting
Hope you get into some superbosses from remakes, as most fans experienced those games, as opposed to the originals. FFIII 3D remake comes to mind with Iron Giant
Favourite one of mine is Emerald Weapon. Unlike Ruby Weapon and many others in the others titles I've played, there was actually a decent reward for beating him. Ruby Weapon was like "yay, a gold chocobo", I got one earlier to get KOTR in order to beat you, I don't really need another.
@@Cloud971 exactly this. It would've been worth it had it not been given the worst stats possible for a gold chocobo, but breeding one, especially from chocobos that have been fed right & raced to S, could be 20% better right out of the egg.
I beat Ruby without KotR because breeding a gold chocobo would have taken longer than I would have cared to spend. So, it was a legitimate reward, just one that I wouldn't really need.
As a kid I thought their was a little man in the front part of WarMECH. My eyes couldn't fully understand the pixels yet. I wondered why he was just wandering around the tower all this time.
I always wondered if there was a connection between Omega (the recurring machine superboss) and Ultimate/Omega Weapon. I believe at least one incarnation of each was presented as "bio-organic".
So this is how I find out the influence behind FFXIV's Elidibus and Zodiark being inextricably tied to each other. Also holding the "13th" Auracite... Wow.
Lucifer and Demi-Fiend are so iconic that people still compare superbosses to at least Demi-fiend. Lucifer returned as the superboss of Devil Survivor and Demi-fiend returned as a superboss in Imagine and SMTV just because of their notoriety.
I never thought Deathgaze as the FF6 superboss. It was definitely the Magic Master! Far more difficult and had a ton of things you had to do to get up to it!
Funny... I didn't realise Knights of the Round had a counter on Emerald Weapon. The first time I saw him go down I was like 8 and my friend's older brother killed him by using Knights of the Round once and it cast like 6 times in a row. I remember being stunned at 3 things.:The secret boss, the secret materia (you have to go out of your way to get Knights of the Round), and that I had no idea how he summoned Knights of the Round so many times in one turn.
Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon gives me all kinds of PTSD. Certainly Emerald as it feels more like a "beginners trap." Ruby I feel is the most difficult of the two beasts due to it's high DEF and odd patterns needed to defeat it. Same memories for Ultimate Weapon and the stronger Omega weapon in Final Fantasy VIII. Though Ultimate I didn't have too much issue with as a kid (aside from that dang Light Pillar attack...), Omega I had the most trouble with due to not realizing he had a specific repeating pattern I had to read up on.
Funny to me when people were talking about _Final Fantasy XVI_ "going back to traditional fantasy” when the first game had an airship, a friendly robot NPC with dialogue, a chicken-walker warmech with a "nuclear" attack…
I played the nes ff1, I got it as a Christmas gift. So I had all the manuals. I was headed across the bridge, I ran into war mech. I died. I grinded so much thinking it was a mandatory encounter. Imagine my surprise when I crossed the bridge and it didn't pop up. I will say, it took me like 5 years to beat ff1 from the first time I played that game. Just cause I was a stupid little kid
I always cheesed Omega weapon by doing that attk that first removes all defense and then use the Zell limit and then use the basice "up down" or "left right" really quick, allowing me to hit over 10 times per limit, always doing 9999 damage
Lastly, that friendly yan in Final Fantasy 9 could also be considered a superboss (or even a nod to warmech) as well. If you decide to attack it or take too long giving what it wants, it will attack you back instead of running away. It has THE STRONGEST attack used by any enemy in the game (outside of meteor/comet's random damage) and it also has a lot of HP. Also, I do believe you can re-fight it as long as you don't give it the item it wants.
I haven't played the Final Fantasy 1 and 2 release with Dawn of Souls in over 16 years, but I *still* have the fear of God when I hear the names Omega and Shinryu.
For Deathgaze, you can increase the encounter rate by lowering the number of party members. A party of one character will find Deathgaze much faster than a full party of four.
I appreciate the evolution videos a lot, especially the ones about bosses. One thing though, fighting games are widely considered to be limited to games like Street Fighter, Tekken (we even had Noctis in Tekken 7), Mortal Kombat, and Smash Bros (Cloud and Sephiroth in SSBU btw). Games that are designed for 1v1 multiplayer gameplay that share a number of core mechanics and concepts (spacing, frame advantage, pressure, combo's, mix-ups, neutral etc.). Games like Streets of Rage that might look a bit like Street Fighter but only feature CPU combat and lack the interactivity of those other games, these are known as beat-em ups. And punch out is just it's own thing really, nothing really plays like it. To many people it will sound off to mention punch out as a fighting game so I figured I'd mention it
I missed the ff1 and ff2 superbosses but went out of my way to beat Omega and Shinryu in ff5 and boy was it difficult even when using the proper strategies
No super boss can compare to Ragu Regula from the Wild Arms series. In particularly, Wild Arms 3, where he lurked at the bottom of a 100 floor dungeon full of enemies who could warp you back to the start.
Ozma being such an ancient & mythical entity within FF9 that the First duke of Lindblum regularly flooded his city with monsters just to select people who would accompany him to try and kill it (in vain)
What made the Final Fantasy 8 superbosses so interesting is that they were also subject to the level mechanic in the game (yes, even Omega. You can look it up on various wiki and bestiary entries online). I don't think this has ever been done in any other RPG game as far as I know.
23:53 You didn't mention that Ultimate Weapon from FF8 is wielding Cloud's ultimate weapon, the Ultimate Weapon (which he gets from defeating Ultimate Weapon), from FF7.
The only superboss' I ever beat naturally (without looking up a specific strategy online) are Shinryu/Mega Bahamut in FFIV(II), which I did the old fashioned way, grinding and repeatedly trying til I got lucky (and that really sucked to do when I was like 12). The other is omega weapon in FF8, which I cheesed through: playing the card game till I maxed out most magic, junctioning said magic to all my stats, leaving my hp low for infinite limits, using heroes/holy wars for invincibility and quickly getting to level 99 on the isle closest to hell due to FF8 leveling system.
I think a slightly more explicit consideration of "sub-super" bosses would have been relevant for this history. None of the optional bosses in Final Fantasy 4 that give you summons (Bahamut, Leviathan, Asura, Odin) or ultimate weapons (Wyvern, Ogopogo, etc.) are anywhere as near as difficult as Zeromus, but I think that they provide the foundation upon which the true Super-Bosses of Final Fantasy V are built. FF5 also has those summon bosses which are completely optional challenges, but then you have Omega on Shinryu on top of them. It throws the distinction in sharper relief.
Show up with two characters already dead. He'll put his arms in the sand right away. Open with Phoenix and then Hades. Hades will stop him (like dazers). It won't last forever so repeat Hades here and there. Don't kotr unless he's stopped. Having three final attacks paired with revive helps a lot
Dazer's don't even LAST for a SINGLE Knights of the round summon hades against Ruby weapon doesn't either so its pointless just W summon KoTR and live THROUGH its Ultima coounters or failing that Turn on the God mode PS4 remaster cheat Ruby weapon has NO attacks that will do 9999 damage so you can't die and can still W summon KoTR WITHOUT needing to trigger HP absorb on the PS4 remaster of FF7 at all.
Just a heads up though, if he's able to move for long enough, and you have more than one character alive, Ruby can pull his tentacles back up and do the Whirlsand attack anyway. Keep him stopped as much as possible. And I'll reiterate, don't use KotR unless he's stopped, otherwise he'll counter with Ultima Unless you did the trick for 3 mystiles, that will be a horrible counter.
Ozma may not be capable of taking much punishment in theory, but it also can oneshot an entire fully levelled up party with meteor and frequently uses Curaga on itself as a counterattack to effectively increase the punishment it can take past the initial 55535, since meteor will always be part of its moveset, but other techniques may be entirely phased out of it if you completely negate them with immunities, this means preparing too much essentially increases the chance for meteor, as the less attacks it has, the higher the chance for the attack to be picked ending up being meteor. To me, it always felt like one of the most brutally random bosses in the games due to this, if you're lucky, he's a pushover and dies with little effort, if you're unlucky he kills you shortly after the fight begins with the casting of a single spell, and worst of all, he has an additional Pumice Piece, as well as Dark Matter to steal pretty much solely to taunt completionists, as both items are limited in the game, the Dark Matter especially so. Then, when you actually beat Ozma, the Dark Matter from the drop isn't guaranteed either, painful.
My favorite boss of the ones on this list would have to be Emerald Weapon. It's a really well-designed fight IMO, with the fight kinda covering all kinds of bases at once and being legitimately threatening constantly, but not being gimmicky either, you're still "playing FF7" but pushed pretty far. It had some cool vulnerabilities like not nullifying Gravity damage, or taking double damage from Lightning, as well as having a phase where multi-target attacks shine the most. While also not being too abusable with, say, Paralysis just totally shutting it down. The only kinda BS part of the fight is Aire Tam Storm because figuring out what its damage is based on is a crapshoot and chances are you'll only ever see it do 9999 damage outright, but you also don't have to figure it out; you can also just play around killing the eyes fast enough to have him never get to use it. It's a great fight allround.
I think I mentioned it in another video but I think these videos would be a lot cooler if they included more spinoffs, and not just the specific "big" ones like Tactics. Omega in Chocobo Mystery Dungeon for instance is completely missing.
In Final Fantasy VI if you killed Doom Gaze by X-Zone you would lose getting the Esper, it would be trapped in the X-Zone with Doom Gaze. However if you used Vanish Doom you would still get it like if you killed him straight out.
I love it when super bosses have a explanation for their existence in the story of the game. Sure it's fine to just have a super boss that basically only exists in gameplay to be one last challenge but giving the superboss some cool lore can add a lot of flavor.
I am a nerd of lore and mythology, one of the reasons I love FF games, so I totally get you, I love that too.
I agree with one exception: Culex from Mario RPG
That's one thing I love about the WEAPONs of FF7. They have a wonderful explanation in the story, and are honestly great bosses. I wonder with the FF7R project with do with them.
@@paulhiggins6433I hope they’re not stuck in the battle simulator that was in the first part.
thats why I think one of the great super-bosses from a lore perspective in the series is specifically, Deumion from FF2(anniversary edition).
especially with the lore behind the Destroy spell and the tragicness of how he became an eternal guardian, protecting that spell for eternity til Firion and party shows up.
it, next to soul of rebirth's Emperor of Heaven, really cements FF2 as a very nice lore-rich game in a good amount of aspects despite the low amount of dialogue.
Deumion's ""that is most unfortunate.." as he closes his eyes before he battles you, is something that always stuck with me.
he is deff the easiest superboss in the entire series, but the lore surrounding him and his summon, Phrekyos, is very neat.
I can’t sit back and relax at a video on super bosses when each one gives me PTSD from the battle.
Oh come now surely... Nope your right. But I will say that the FF8 ones are the easiest for me, just because 8 is my favourite in the franchise so I have beaten them yearly at this point.
11:20 I love how encountering Warmech was deserving of a screenshot. I would've done the same thing! haha
Me too!
I finished FF1 a couple of times and have never encountered it :( perhaps that's for the best. lol
Good ol WarMech. The precursor to my favorite boss. OMEGA.
I still remember beating Ozma legit on ps1 in 2008. That was one hell of a challenge
I always thought ozma was a joke. I beat it first try around level 45 or 50

I like how the hidden 13th zodiac stone is based on the commonly overlooked 13th zodiac sign.
I ended up having to look up a strategy and that's how I learned abut the dynamic level thing.
My first time beating Omega was through Selphie's "The End" Roulette Limit Break. I eventually beat it without Selphie, though.
How did I even manage getting to Ozma? Jeezus!
I remember you covering this topic before but a new version with the growth the channel has made is definitely appreciated because I love this topic and it deserves top caliber production
They deserve more views and likes!!
I still gotta get War Machine to finish my FF1 play-through on my phone. Great video!
Took me over 2 hours on pixel remaster
Good luck! I added 6 hours to my game time, and gained 57 levels to hit 99 for the first time ever (boosters were on but still...).
I've never had so much trouble finding the rare encounters until this collection lol
I really consider Bahamut a super boss of FF4. He’s optional, hidden, and the hardest boss in the game other than zeromus.
He's tough, but several Lunar Subterranean bosses are arguably tougher than he is.
But, most of them aren't hidden like Bahamut is (other than, ironically, Dark Bahamut).
Honestly the super bosses on ffx could be a video all of its own.
The entire creature creation monster arena said hold my brewery

As someone who has only played XIV, hearing everything had me amazed.
Also, I agree with what a youtuber named DarkKefka said.
Ozma definitely is pretty random if you'll win or not if you're going in blindly. You REALLY have to break down it's AI. It's insane. But those that fully understand it can actually win low level solo fights against it (like a Freya in single digit levels taking it on)
That feel when the Brachiosaur from FF6 was a Superboss in enemy clothing
Swing and a miss. Disaster awaits.
Yeah, I agree with Brachiosaur. A repeatable Warmech-level battle, of a sort.
Intangir as well.
I bet that thing influenced the creation of ff8 Malboro
Enuo in FFV Advance was hard as hell but the necromancer job crystal was SO worth it.
Weirdly, I always though of the chests guards in the lunar palace in FF4 as kinda super bosses.
Good video, although I noticed a couple inaccuracies:
13:57 As shown in later footage, Deathgaze did not originally appear on the map in the SNES and GBA versions and was invisible; that dark void thing was added later.
As a FF14 player who never played tactics the Elidibus part blew my mind
Really enjoyed this video team FFU! Looking forward to the next one
Beat Ozma couple of days ago. Feels good finally experiencing fighting and defeating the infamous ruthless sphere
It’s so wild to hear grinding referenced as something invented a while back. I feel old. I still love a good grind on these oldie rpgs, put on some lofi, et al.
Check out Reignwolf. Their album "Hear Me Out" is brilliant
Correction:
Ozma is not the only or first to mess with the ATB turn order.

"Aire Tam" is Materia spelt backwards, thats why it does damage based on how much Materia the party has equipped.
You mixed causality up with correlation, but I get your point
You've made a strange mistake in the video: Deathgaze being visible on the world map is an addition of the Pixel Remaster version of FF6.
In the original game and following ports before PR, it was a not-so-random encounter that was hidden on the map of the World of Ruin.
Honestly I was about to post the same info. I thought it was strange they said that.
Well now the two of you feel important for an even stranger reason. Congratulations…?
@orsonriven No, that really doesn't seem all that strange. A great many people would have first played FF6 on GBA. It's a mundane and minor aspect of the topic.
@@Thy_Boss >:(

Don’t even go here, but it was on my recommended, and clicked because of the character apparently called Omega that looked like it might be an inspiration for Diaboromon/Diablomon from the Digimon Movie, and with it being a ‘secret superboss’ that fit conceptually too with a sudden superhard anime special enemy. And the name of the new Digimon that defeated it? In Japanese, was called Omegamon.
Omega was such a pain in the butt, but I love these superbosses.

That piano version of the Shinra sector 8 invasion is killer!
Stop isn't the problem its that my LV 50 party would barely hit it for even 500 PER Drill/Cyans lv 4 Sword tech hits so unless your doing 5000 to 9999 against those they are NOT worth fighting the only reliable way to kill them WITHOUT that bug is to use Sabins FINAL blitz and to use it in the WoB he MUST be at lv 70 and by then those aren't worth fighting FOR Esper Magic lvs AT all.
one i'm deff curious about is if FF2's anniversary edition would be mentioned as that has 2 additional superbosses in the form of Deumion and Phrekyos(Deumion's summon that apparently, will actually replace him in the Arcane Sanctuary if you kill Deumion for the Destroy spell)
the one thing I don't think I seen anyone mention about the Destroy spell, much less known, is that the Destroy spell, if it does not kill a target, becomes a hidden Secret gravity spell for the rest of the battle.
you can easily see this gravity effect when its used on the Emperor of Hell as he has more than 9999 hp(15,000 total), which's a fact(gravity part of Destroy spell) that I don't think many people know.
Ruby weapons has always been the most challenging for me due to its mechanics
One of the reasons why 6 to 12 are so good.
Hope you get into some superbosses from remakes, as most fans experienced those games, as opposed to the originals. FFIII 3D remake comes to mind with Iron Giant
Soda Popinski in Mike Tysons punchout was my superboss in that game. I think I only beat him once and I never beat the game.
Plus it's not really competitive for the Chocobo Races... Maybe it's for people who doesn't use KOTR?
Wow.
Shinryu and Omega are probably the most iconic super bosses in all of gaming.
Akuma says hi
Definitely iconic, but I'd argue Malenia from Elden ring has taken their crown with how memed she was.
Perhaps in Japan, outside of it I'd wager Emerald and Ruby Weapon are moreso.
Lucifer and Demi-Fiend are so iconic that people still compare superbosses to at least Demi-fiend. Lucifer returned as the superboss of Devil Survivor and Demi-fiend returned as a superboss in Imagine and SMTV just because of their notoriety.
Eight Dragons in FF6 enable player to use final summon Crusader, they are super bosses I guess?
I hope you'll include Hard mod Bhunivelze+ in your evolution videos. It's by far the hardest Boss of Lightning Returns.
I never thought Deathgaze as the FF6 superboss. It was definitely the Magic Master! Far more difficult and had a ton of things you had to do to get up to it!
I think that Deathgaze earns its place on the list because of the unusual nature of its encounters moreso than the challenge of its battle.
Honestly I never really counted 8 as having a super boss since none of them were difficult, now Ozma gives me nightmares to this day
I played the nes ff1, I got it as a Christmas gift.
Holy shit. No idea Japan missed out on such iconic content like VII’s weapons.
I think Omega Weapon is always level 100 in the PS1 version, but has a variable level in the PC versions and the Remaster.
@@primosdesegundograu1204 yes Ultima Weapon too was always 100

Came for FFX. was disappointed. Then realized this is only part 1. Great video.
Ozma was one of the best because of his written code. Devs were screwing with us and I’m sure they loved it
Oh, I beat Shinmryuu [sp?] back in the day. Never knew it was a secret boss. More Mymic came to mind. But it's actually not a mimic. Haha.
Another absolutely amazing video. Still struggling to defeat Ruby Weapon, although I've got some ideas, mostly having to do with Dazers
Keep digging, by the time you are first able to fight him you can defeat him. All the tools necessary are available.
Always counter/mime
I remember falling into the trap on ff8 fighting omega on level 100 legitimately took me about 3 hours
Oh yeah, Ozma, the one boss that was unfair

Enough said.
My favorite Final fantasy boss's "ShinrRyu" and "Omega"! 😍♥️♥️
Your evolution videos always make my day when I see them post!
I was just watching your previous Evolution of .... :) perfect timing!
