Final Fantasy XI still features some incredibly difficult Superboss fights, now called the Master Trials. They aren't just single enemies, but full parties meant to fuck your team up. The first of these were the Shadow Lord and the three Beastman Leaders, then they introduced Ultima and Omega, as well as Alexander and Odin along with all his Valkyries. They introduced two more later one, one featuring Eald'narche and Kam'lanaut with all five Ark Angels at the same time, and another with August and Teodor from Seekers of Adoulin. These fights are BEYOND brutal, the arenas have very funny aggro effects in place, so a tank has to work hard to keep enmity on him, and death is very hard to recover from as about every square inch of the arena is an aggro zone after first engagement. The prizes for the Master Trials are interesting too, cause they only provide you technically useless level 1 weapons with no stats, but the weapons are awesome laser weapons that activate the blades when they are drawn (players like calling them lightsabers). There's a sword, greatsword, hand-to-hand weapons, a dagger, and a spear. They can be locked as glamour weapons (replacing what your real weapon looks like) and they are great bragging rights rewards. I've been in a party that was able to beat the Shadow Lord one (for the greatsword), and attempted the one with Alexander and Odin, before I took an extended break from the game.
absolute virtue also DID get a few nerfs after a certain....incident where a player nearly died during an attempt against it but yeah till the level cap was boosted that thing would devour your entire day to date 14 has not yet introduced any boss that is as much a time sinc indipendently, there are a few who if you track the questline for them begining to end take longer, but there respective fights...not so much.
It's hard for me to have any respect for Absolute Virtue as someone who never played XI because all combat in that game just looks like the boss is just sitting there auto attacking and nothing is happening
AV is often the one that comes to mind, but it was PW - Pandemonium Warden that truly earned notoriety for XI in a rather horrendous way; As a resident of Seraph server (now merged with Bismarck) I actually knew (loosely) some of the members of BTL - Beyond The Limit, one of the premier guilds back in the day and it was they who infamously fought that nightmare for over 8 hours straight onoy to eventually wipe to it; The incident actually made the news at the time and as a result, forced SQEX to adjust it and eventually AV as well as it was a PR nightmare. Let it be known that Vana'diel will not suffer the weak :P Oh also: hoping that for 14 you guys pick Nael Hard Mode from 1.0 because hoo boy... Even the Savage version in Coil pales in comparison.
When I was 8 and crashed my Submarine into Emrald. I was shitting bricks. Then after finding out how to fight it thanks to my Bradi Games guide I was so stoked! Now as a man in his Mid 30s I replay some of my childhood fav games and just steam roll them and think goddamn I was dogshit when I was a kid. Lol
29:11 this is perhaps the best example I can think of of how different countries or more specifically cultures have completely different almost Alien ways of thinking to each other. I’m a fairly hardcore gamer or I was at times in my past (now I’m both ill and disabled so I can’t keep up the levels of gaming I used to even if I still had the time) and I know some even more hardcore gamers but none of them would have considered doing the level of gaming it was taking to fight this boss that’s a completely different level of thinking.
I think Absolute Virtue is the toughest boss ever created in any game ever. My LS (linkshell) on the Diabolos server fought that thing numerous times, and always ended up frustrated. Just getting the pop items required to spawn it represented a lot of time and effort running around Sea to beat all of the Jailers. The Jailers required their own pop items gained from other Sea mobs too. We'd usually accrue pop items for multiple of each Jailer since they also could drop rare gear. I quit FFXI not too long after the level cap was raised to 99 since the game just became too easy at that point, so I never had the satisfaction of beating Absolute Virtue.
I hope at some point the omega weapon from final fantasy 15 will be talked about. He is the only other omega i defeated beside ffx, and is my absolute favourite in the whole franchise
"Oh boy, part 2! I can't wait to see my favorite Final Fantasy covered! It has so many superbosses and references to the older games!" *Sees video length* "Oh :/" I'm actually curious how much time you'll spend talking about 12 lol
Very good, now we're going to see Kaiser Dragon, Omega Weapon in FFVI, Zodiark, Omega Weapon Mark XII and Yiazmat in FFXII and finally Long Gui and Vercengetorix and FFXIII in part 3. 🙂
Man, Zeromus EG seems so familiar, but I don't remember playing the GBA version of 4...I know I've seen it though. Maybe it was just that long ago, since an ex-friend did introduce me to FF via FFI on the GBA...
I remember playing for the first time FFX withou leveling up, but I had Yojimbo, and I remember all my aeons has been clapped on the Braska final aeon fight, but not Yojimbo, AND that moment when Tidus is down, Auron is down, And Yuna have abou 1k hp I just summoned Yojimbo my last hope, then I pay him my all overwhelming amount of gil (like 80k gil because i didnt farm the whole game) then Yojimbo just one shot Jecht, my fucking heart in that exact moment just start to pulse like I do cocaine for everyday, that memory will be in my head to the end of my days.
I've never played FF11, in fact it might be the Final Fantasy I know the least about, but from the horror stories I've heard, Absolute Virtue might be the hardest boss in the franchise's history. There are accounts of people fighting it for over THIRTY HOURS, and to no avail at that! People have gotten physically ill in real life just trying to fight it. I know it's a running gag in the community about how absurdly long it takes to fell bosses like Yiazmat from 12 or the Adamantoise in 15, but at least you could pause those games. 11 is an MMO, so there is no pausing.
Uhh...Wait hold up. Around @26:50, their HP is over 999? How is that possible? I played the crud out of the PSP FF1 (not the dawn of souls version) and I always wondered if that was the true max or not.
I NEVER could complete ALL 50 floors of that PSP only FF1 dungeon to even FIGHT it in the first place so that's a LOT harder to do then the actually boss fight against it especially due to LACK of Save points.
i do hope we see how savage fights different from ultimate fights in FFXIV, since we had to wait until Stormblood for the first ultimate fight against Bahamut
My hardest super boss is Chibi Terra from World of FF. How can anyone possibly attack something as cute and adorable as sweet little Terra? Oh, same goes for Vivi. World of FF is cruel!
So we are not gonna talk about the super boss that guarded Vegnagun? That Fiend was a menace in its own right. 😂. Had me was like; fuck this, lemme play this piano and skip this guy.
As much as I hate mobile games down to their very concept, I will admit that the little facet with Jade Weapon's battle changing depending on your real life location is actually a pretty wild idea.
Ugh, the look on my face when I grinded 6 Iron Dukes in the original FFX-2.... only for the remaster to give 5 of them from a single Major Numerous fight....
Though I have played and beaten most of these Final Fantasy games, the super-bosses (for the most part) were always unbeatable for me. Only few were somewhat manageable, the weaker ones such as Ultima and Omega in FFX, but beyond that - good lord. Never had the patience to grind that much, and cheap one-hit kills were beneath me. Well, admittedly, I did defeat Angra Mainyu by abusing that one ability which allows you to shoot an enemy a bunch of times for massive damage. The most I ever achieved without such tricks were a few of the Dark Aeaons, but only a handful of them. While I enjoy the idea of super-bosses, it sure is often a task for those who have no other obligations in their lives and just grind, grind, grind. Impressive for sure, but also quite insane.
The only one I didn't at least try was Tiamat from XII. I'm a nervous person and wouldn't even want to leave my console on that long lol. Ozma from IX and Ruby and Emerald from VII are the only ones I've never beat from the games I actually played. I never played III or IV or XI and otherwise I;ve been through every main game and spin off. A lot of them have a cheese of some sort. He mentions most of them in these videos honestly. I didn't know about the Cait SIth strategy for Ruby until a few years ago, and always wanted to go back and try, but there's just too many games and only so much time.
the sheer difficulty of Absolute Virtue is a bit down played here, I only remember cause i was there lol. the dev team released a video 3 years after the introduction to him to give clues how to beat him, didnt work. even when his hp got reduced cause the 18 hour battle with pw, it didnt work. i remember going to sleep after a wipe on him, and coming back the next day and different LS's were still fighting him
I never even played Final Fantasy XI but I definitely saw the news articles of Absolute Virtue (and Pandemonium Warden) requiring an unhealthy amount of time to beat. And these were articles in non-gaming media sites too, it was nuts.
Or you can cheese Major Numerous with an impale team and Mushroom Cloud, then get all the those sweet sweet Keys to Success and Iron Dukes you can dream of.
Does Greg or the leadup fights to him in 7 Rebirth count as superbosses? While they were the hardest fights in the game without question, they still didn't really feel as impossible of a wall as most superbosses usually do.
@@maybayV2 I did it at level ~48 on normal on my way to start Chapter 13. And yeah I wasn't sure how "hard" it is in the context of some of the hard mode stuff. (Edit: Also that odin + alexander fight was imo way harder) I needed a break after sinking 120 hours into it so it'll be a while before I go back for the completion cleanup.
@Xenodyne I mean, literally all I did was focus Odin, and he just teleports away. Meaning it's just Alexander 1v1 until he comes back like 5min later. It was probably the second easiest for me.
My first super boss was Bass from Megaman BN 6, I dunno if it’s actually a super boss. But it’s optional and I had mentally stuck myself on that fight as an 8 year old.
I really don’t see the issue with these horror movies. If they don’t like them, just move on to things they enjoy and ignore them. Peter Pan in a certain light is pretty horrific, though. So it’s the only one that kind of makes sense?
Absolutely no mention about every time players would find a way to down Absolute Virtue, Square would retaliate, punish the players, and "fix" the way they downed it. This lead to players to push well beyond reasonable fight lengths and compromise their health.
Thanks for the comment! It is indeed a shame that players had to endure such odd behaviour by the developers. I'd perhaps recommend re-watching that section of the video though, as there is mention of the developers voiding strategies that were not deemed correct in their eyes. ~Darryl

Saw he was preparing an attack, right sacrifice time, summoned Yojimbo and paid 1 gil, Yojimbo used Zanmato
Me:... you couldnt wait a few encounters?
That was the only time he ever used Zanmato for me
Well you have to defeat Dark Yojimbo 5 times to actually beat him, so don't feel too bad about it.
@@callmeshaggy5166 its more against Yojimbo than Dark Yojimbo here
Final Fantasy XI still features some incredibly difficult Superboss fights, now called the Master Trials.
Can't wait for part 3 with FFXII and FFXIII Trilogy. ;
absolute virtue also DID get a few nerfs after a certain....incident where a player nearly died during an attempt against it
but yeah till the level cap was boosted that thing would devour your entire day to date 14 has not yet introduced any boss that is as much a time sinc indipendently, there are a few who if you track the questline for them begining to end take longer, but there respective fights...not so much.
Zeromus EG took me so many tries. But it felt good when I finally defeated him.
It's hard for me to have any respect for Absolute Virtue as someone who never played XI because all combat in that game just looks like the boss is just sitting there auto attacking and nothing is happening
Are you going to cover the super boss from final fantasy 7 crisis core
The ones I've beat: Shinryu FFV, Emerald FFVII, Ruby FFVII, Sepentarius FFT, Omega FFVIII, Ozma FFIX, Nemesis FFX, Trema FFX-2, Adamntoise FFXV.
AV is often the one that comes to mind, but it was PW - Pandemonium Warden that truly earned notoriety for XI in a rather horrendous way;
As a resident of Seraph server (now merged with Bismarck) I actually knew (loosely) some of the members of BTL - Beyond The Limit, one of the premier guilds back in the day and it was they who infamously fought that nightmare for over 8 hours straight onoy to eventually wipe to it;
The incident actually made the news at the time and as a result, forced SQEX to adjust it and eventually AV as well as it was a PR nightmare.
Let it be known that Vana'diel will not suffer the weak :P
Oh also: hoping that for 14 you guys pick Nael Hard Mode from 1.0 because hoo boy...
Lol
16:34 min as a german ive had a good laugh on this one 😂 (it sounded like rise of the Salat (Salat = salad in german))
I am here to claim first, and to say I adore this channel.
7 seconds dam you
You got 2nd actually
Thank you so much! ~Darryl
Talking of Penance, I got the trophy for beating him in the PS4 version when I beat a random enemy in the Calm Lands. It was pretty weird.
Cries in Dragonsong's Reprise (Ultimate) flavored self destruction
I would argue the dark aeons are just a string of bosses with Dark Penance being the "super" boss of that group
I hope at some point the omega weapon from final fantasy 15 will be talked about. He is the only other omega i defeated beside ffx, and is my absolute favourite in the whole franchise
"Oh boy, part 2! I can't wait to see my favorite Final Fantasy covered! It has so many superbosses and references to the older games!"
*Sees video length*
"Oh :/"
I'm actually curious how much time you'll spend talking about 12 lol
I had no idea you could fight the Dark Magus Sisters separately.
Very good, now we're going to see Kaiser Dragon, Omega Weapon in FFVI, Zodiark, Omega Weapon Mark XII and Yiazmat in FFXII and finally Long Gui and Vercengetorix and FFXIII in part 3. 🙂
I always forgot yojimbo existed until I fought penance. Then I thought fuck it lets make cheese. Gave him my life savings and won lol
The final fantasy xi portion screams “I have not actually played much of this game”
you mentioned yojimbo for penance but if i remember correctly you didnt mention the end for omega weapon in ff8
One thing about Divine Might: ArkAngel MR can use Charm on players.
Imagine being so angry that you become a superboss (Omega FFX)
Great episode but it makes me sad that I gotta wait for ff12, 13, 15, and 16
Uhh...Wait hold up. Around @26:50, their HP is over 999? How is that possible? I played the crud out of the PSP FF1 (not the dawn of souls version) and I always wondered if that was the true max or not.
Meanwhile Chronodia
"Am I a joke to you?"
Don't worry, Chronodia will have its time to shine. We just haven't got to that part of the chronological evolution yet! ~Darryl
I NEVER could complete ALL 50 floors of that PSP only FF1 dungeon to even FIGHT it in the first place so that's a LOT harder to do then the actually boss fight against it especially due to LACK of Save points.
What mods are being used in the XI clips? I have mine modded and it doesn't look as good as that. lol
I remember having to spam quick hit repeatedly to beat nemesis 😂
i do hope we see how savage fights different from ultimate fights in FFXIV, since we had to wait until Stormblood for the first ultimate fight against Bahamut
My hardest super boss is Chibi Terra from World of FF. How can anyone possibly attack something as cute and adorable as sweet little Terra?
Oh, same goes for Vivi. World of FF is cruel!
Black rabite from mana series is hell
If i rember right you had a extreamly small chance to steal Excalibur II from ozma so their was 2 ways to get Excalibur II
So we are not gonna talk about the super boss that guarded Vegnagun?
That Fiend was a menace in its own right. 😂. Had me was like; fuck this, lemme play this piano and skip this guy.
I can't wait for the FF14 segment, at the very least Ultimates should count as a multi-phase superboss encounter if nothing else.
As much as I hate mobile games down to their very concept, I will admit that the little facet with Jade Weapon's battle changing depending on your real life location is actually a pretty wild idea.
I have to ask, where can one download all of these piano themes of FF music?
I hope next you will talk about the super boss in XV
Ugh, the look on my face when I grinded 6 Iron Dukes in the original FFX-2.... only for the remaster to give 5 of them from a single Major Numerous fight....
Angra Mainyu was such a letdown;
Two Dark Knights > Darkness x2,
One Alchemist > Al Bhed Hi Potion,
Repeat as necessary
If you say check the link in the description you should put a link in the description
Would Cluex from mario rpg be considered a ff superboss? Being across dimensions with four elemental crystals, and appropriate music lol
the sheer difficulty of Absolute Virtue is a bit down played here, I only remember cause i was there lol. the dev team released a video 3 years after the introduction to him to give clues how to beat him, didnt work. even when his hp got reduced cause the 18 hour battle with pw, it didnt work. i remember going to sleep after a wipe on him, and coming back the next day and different LS's were still fighting him
I never even played Final Fantasy XI but I definitely saw the news articles of Absolute Virtue (and Pandemonium Warden) requiring an unhealthy amount of time to beat. And these were articles in non-gaming media sites too, it was nuts.
Or you can cheese Major Numerous with an impale team and Mushroom Cloud, then get all the those sweet sweet Keys to Success and Iron Dukes you can dream of.
What about the Dragons on the Dragon Isle in the post game of FFVI advance.
Absolute virute also didnt have a 100% spawn rate and people were scared of him. In fact people would start running when jailor of love died
Does Greg or the leadup fights to him in 7 Rebirth count as superbosses? While they were the hardest fights in the game without question, they still didn't really feel as impossible of a wall as most superbosses usually do.
Ngl, they honestly weren't that hard.
I had a harder time fighting White Terrors on hard mode.
Who’s greg
@@HoneybadgerGames it's a joke for people that play FF14 ;) My hint is that it's a reoccurring summon that's name also starts with the letter G
@@maybayV2 I did it at level ~48 on normal on my way to start Chapter 13. And yeah I wasn't sure how "hard" it is in the context of some of the hard mode stuff. (Edit: Also that odin + alexander fight was imo way harder)
I needed a break after sinking 120 hours into it so it'll be a while before I go back for the completion cleanup.
@Xenodyne I mean, literally all I did was focus Odin, and he just teleports away. Meaning it's just Alexander 1v1 until he comes back like 5min later. It was probably the second easiest for me.
There were alot of other neat bosses that were added to FF1 with the dawn of souls version. Kinda sad only omega and shinryu got mentioned
No mention of Yiazmat XII?
31:55 Espers in ff4??🤣🧐
My first super boss was Bass from Megaman BN 6, I dunno if it’s actually a super boss. But it’s optional and I had mentally stuck myself on that fight as an 8 year old.
Show of hands, who else just cheesed Penance with Yojimbo?
Hello British Darryl I'm your American counterpart LOL
@@whilstdumping my name is Darryl and I'm from Texas? Lol
Not ff but my battle against dulahand and the three you must beat before that where my greatest achievement in rpg.
I just wish Dark Valefor and Dark Shiva weren't in the way, and that Dark Shiva didn't ambush you. I hate that about the FFX remaster.
I really don’t see the issue with these horror movies. If they don’t like them, just move on to things they enjoy and ignore them.
Peter Pan in a certain light is pretty horrific, though. So it’s the only one that kind of makes sense?
Omega in FF10/JP had 99.999 HP
In international it was 999.9999 HP
Nemesis has 10 Million HP in both versions
Absolutely no mention about every time players would find a way to down Absolute Virtue, Square would retaliate, punish the players, and "fix" the way they downed it. This lead to players to push well beyond reasonable fight lengths and compromise their health.
Thanks for the comment! It is indeed a shame that players had to endure such odd behaviour by the developers. I'd perhaps recommend re-watching that section of the video though, as there is mention of the developers voiding strategies that were not deemed correct in their eyes. ~Darryl
Are you saying "two hour ability?"
Just letting you know, omega had 99,999 in ff10 original and went to 999,999 on the international, nemesis always had 10m, 100x the original and 10x the international
Ultima and Omega weapon were...disappointing the first time i beat them. Granted, i did some grinding in the dungeon you find them in, and the dungeon has some initially difficult monsters before you get used to them.
um ff4 had super bosses on the moon, rewarding many ultimate weapons, all optional. not to mentin the optional summon fights which we also meant to be super bosses, compared to most other bosses in the game
5:30 Nine!!
