Have I watched these seperately? Yes. Am I gonna sit through all 3 hours of this? Also yes. Do I have an unhealthy obsession with Final Fantasy? ALSO YES.
I like how Warmech foreshadowed how Final Fantasy was going to focus more on being a high fantasy/technology-hybrid series instead of just high fantasy.
the entire flying fortress kinda foreshadowed that it made clear that the lufenians were not just any ancient civilization, they had way more advanced technology than people could even fathom at that point.
What an impressive list, includes even the different versions. Despite having a lot of experience with Final Fantasy it looks like there's a lot of bosses I haven't defeated yet.
That was a super fun watch. Brought back so many memories of when I was REALLY into FF (mostly 1 to 12 and some spin offs) and made me want to try some of the games I never played.
You know, i bet you could probably make an entire Evolution video on Omega alone with just how many times it has appeared, or at least had an homage to it in the series
When I was a kid, I remember fighting Warmech... No guide to explain things, and no idea that the boss would be 1/5th or less as scary... So I remember grinding and grinding and doing everything I could think of, getting the party ready to reliably spank warmechs when they spawned for me... only to walk in and shitstomp Tiamat easily... bit of a mistake, but at least the final dungeon crawl wasnt as bad.
Awesome video! I've handled a handful of these growing up. In case anyone didn't notice, "aire tam" is just materia spelled backwards. A decent clue on how the attack worked. Ruby Weapon could be cheesed with a materia setup involving KOTR + HP absorb. I believe it also needed a magic counter + KOTR, and you could cast the summon once and just walk away from your game. Your one living character could just duke it out with the boss automatically. As long as you could tank the ultima attack, you were golden. The game's numbers would only show you healing for a few thousand HP on each cast, but it gave you a full heal every time, breaking the 9,999 heal limit.
Wanted to clarify the FFXI NMs u said were 24hr respawns are 21-24hr respawns after death with a few exceptions which were 48-72hrs. Absolute Virtue was not always guaranteed to appear after defeating Jailer of Love.
Perfect Alexander mentioned YAAAAAAAAABABEY. thank you for this long history coverage of super bosses. i was wondering if you were gonna cover ultimates. great vid.
Great long form video thanks! A correction: you stated that in FF VIII the Omega weapon fight difficulty could be mitigated by taking advantage of the game's unique system of enemies scaling to party levels. In the original PS1 version, this was not true. Like the enemies on Island Closest to Heaven/Hell, Omega was always lvl 100. That changed for Omega in PC and Remaster releases. Ask any OG speedrunner.
It would have been cool to see Bravely Default make an appearance in this list, because even though it isn't a Final Fantasy game in name, it is one by heart: FF: The Four Heroes of Light (which was included in this list) ended up leading to the development of Bravely, and Bravely's world building and gameplay harken back to the early Final Fantasy's (with 5 having a spotlight).
so at the end it all circles back to ff5. ff the four heroes of light was originally gonna be the ds remake of ff5, and bravely default was originally gonna be a sequel to four heroes of light. weird
I hadn't noticed before, but now that you've pointed it out, I'm genuinely irrated that you guys don't have a million subs already. By far, the best FF channel on UA-cam
@@NoOne-fo1di my comment is related to your "best FF channel" it's weird how they didnt mention that Warmech was part of a sort of giveaway, if you found him you could sent them a screenshot, can't rem3mber exactly what could be won
@S4NSE are you saying that they're not the best because they didn't include the information about a reward you win for doing something outside the game ? I mean, that's neat but isn't really related to the evolution of superbosses.
i feel like people don't give zack enough credit. we all talk about lightning and clive for being literal godslayers, but so is zack. minerva pretty much is the goddess that genesis refers to. and there's no reason to believe that zack doesn't defeat her in battle.
took me days to finish watching it but i watched all the same. totally worth it. thanks for your high quality content. keep up the good work. wish you well
To get the most difficulty out of the Omega fight in FFVIII, the best level to fight it at would theoretically be around 30-40. It's Magic Attack caps at level 30 while it's physical caps at 40, making it's Terra Break about as strong as possible. Beyond that point it gets miniscule stat increases besides it's HP value. So levelling up starts to make the fight easier again rather than harder. Many fights in the game are like that where they don't really get that much harder after a certain level, letting you "over level" them afterall. That said, if you are keeping your party low level, than the actual hardest fights are probably the random encounters on the two islands which always spawn max level monsters regardless of your own.
As an avid FF14 player today, and someone who grew up with FF7, X/X2 , 12 - I always loved fighting bosses. I wish I could've been there for the Ifrit (Hard) challenge when it was around. Something about that old battle system looks so charming, even if it sucks
Another point about FF5 Omega: there are multiple other enemies in the game that use the exact same sprite as him, so at first he doesn't seem unusually threatening...until he gets a turn, that is.
those weren't really superbosses, just optional bosses that had ultimate weapons as a reward. but they weren't stronger or harder than the final boss, had way less HP, and just didn't fit the other "required" features of a superboss
i never knew deathgaze is a superboss. he felt like just a regular sidequest to get bahamut. the 8 legendary dragon feels more like a superboss to me just from how difficult it was to find all of them.
One notable tidbit that I think is interesting about Yiazmat. We all know that it had the highest amount of HP in the game - over 50 million. BUT.... if you were tocombine the HP pools of every other enemy in the game, you wouldn't reach a quarter of that. This meant that Yiazmat had more HP than every other enemy in the game combined.
The best part about Almighty Shinra is that you can recruit him into your party once you manage to beat him. (Same with Trema, but AS is more powerful.)
SOMEHOW I never found out that Airtam Storms damage was linked to materia equipped, until a couple years ago. I figured it always dealt 9999 damage and so the only way to beat it was with the couple flawless materia combinations like final attack rezing or many mimes and many KOTRs to not give emerald a chance to counter. Makes me want to play again with this knowledge. Also i want to try the lucky 7's manipulation strats that I tried to do but never could as a teen👹
I still remember when people was talking about the possibility of another phase in the Omega fight (Alpha Omega) and I just could not believe that it actually existed til people started posting it on Twitter 😭
X's version of Ultima and Omega Weapon also had the one time weakness to Holy and healing spells and items due to being unsent. So casting Hastega on you party and having Yuna with her fully powered ultimate weapon just casting Holy every turn, dealing upwards of 99,999 damage to break damage limit. I haven't fought Nemesis (cause those unique arena monsters are 10x harder than endgame mobs) do I don't know if that same strat applies.
Today I came up against the super boss known as HR and the mandatory training special attack! It was a long battle with near complete party annihilation but myself and my colleagues consumed the potent coffee X-potion and finished the battle victorious Thank Friday and thank this video for providing a pleasant closing credits
You should use WOL Theme from Mobius Final Fantasy. I recommend this one from the game since few songs are ambient. Also, plenty are leitmotifs and homages to other FF games. A fan piano-arranged version is from YT channel called Mei Chan.
Do wanna note you missed Omega, from Final Fantasy Explorers, specifically the later missions he appeared in, as he was fought multiple times in the post game missions
Superbosses are good when designed to be a cool secret or expand lore a bit. Most people got excited to prepare to face emerald weapon but few people actually liked ruby weapon in the ps1 era and then there is ozma and hades where most people dont like either of those 2 at all. It seems that most players like a challenge but they hate when its taken too far or a frustrating gimmick ig.

Can you do the complete history of final fantasy brave exvius? And the Sworn eight of paladia?? Please please please.
Have I watched these seperately?
Yes.

As a XIV player, this video really reminded me just how much and how deeply that game draws from the franchise's history.
All those familiar names...
I was thinking the same thing lol😅
Friends: You doing anything today?
Me: I have a 3 hour lecture to attend...with pen and paper.
A 3 hour video about final fantasy to get me through the rest of my work day? Yes please!
I had the same thought😂
Get another job

Paused at the Record Keeper segment. I miss that game so much it’s unreal. Magicite bosses were hilariously difficult.

Warmech is what happens when you accidentally swap out your DnD character sheet for your Battletech one.
"I cast... uhh, AC/20."

What about the book in the library during the countdown in FF9? That is generally considered a super boss too.

In the remastered of final fantasy 1 wish they would have brought the Dawn of souls version with the super bosses added in.
We’ve come a long way… Final Fantasy X out of XVI mainline games, and we’re only 30 minutes in…
The main question now is how many times they're gonna remake FFIV before a new FF comes out.
they haven't remade it in a while. the pixel remaster doesn't really count because they remade every game from 1 to 6.
Slobbering sue😩😫
What was the first song playing? Is there a full music list?
