System of a down are: Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards) Daron Malakian (guitars, background vocals) Shavo Odadjian (bass) John Dolmayan (drums) They are Alternative Metal. There are many different influences in it, like Thrash Metal, Rap, Punk, Nu Metal, Psychedelic Rock, Folk, Progressive....They are one of the most unique bands from the 90ies and 00s. They are from Glendale California, but they are all from armenian descent. That's why you can hear a lot of eastern european but also middle-eastern folk music sounds and rhythms in their work. Their lyrics are mostly about social topics, society, politics, anti war, antiracism, spirituality and sometimes just silly and fun. They go dark and deep, but also include a lot of satirical humor. They had a couple of No. 1 albums and platinum selling records in the US and worldwide, they won two grammies and a couple of MTV awards. Their producer is Rick Rubin (Public Enemy, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica). They released five albums between 1998 and 2005. Since then they are only touring but haven't released any new music. Unfortunately they can't agree on the direction of any new output, each four of them have their own music projects and bands now. And we fans are missing them badly.
Didn’t know you hadn’t checked them out, or I would have suggested them. Serj has an incredible voice, and can go from a metal growl, to spitting fast bars, to beautiful melodic singing. I believe he is classically trained. Plus the guitarist, Daron, sings lead on some of the songs. Together, they can harmonize unbelievably well. Chop Suey is a great on to hear a fast delivery from Serj. BYOB is another good example where you can here his full range. And Lost in Hollywood is one Daron sings lead, and you can hear some great harmonies with Serj. Can’t wait for more. Cheers!
SOAD doesn’t make bad songs. That’s not opinion. That’s a fact. “Chop Suey” is the obvious next song you should check out because it’s their biggest hit. But any song from their catalogue should hit your ears kindly. Enjoy.
Very unique band. I feel you are genuinely liking our crazy world of rock and metal. And trust me, I've seen hip-hop acts you would die for. Mantronix and just ice. Run DMC. Public enemy .and the beastie boys. Even got to see the original gangsta rapper schooly d back in the day. Some benefits to being a older fella. But I still love my gigs and music. And I love when I find someone with such a open mind, it's the essence of intellect. I love all music. If it's good then its good. I could recommend loads and loads of bands. But the last pre covit gig I went to is a band called Gojira and they are brilliant. Progressive and smart contemporary intelligent. There are so many great songs they have done. But maybe start with stranded or prey or silvera. 3 great songs. They can be really heavy. But they can also be really atmospheric and beautiful at times. I would not steer your wrong on this my friend. Do have to do a reaction..just have a listen.. ☮️
@@jayrahvisions absolutely you do. Art of dying is superb.. Don't forget. Deftones. Korn Slipknot. Here's a reaction you.should do. Bring me the horizon. A wonderful life featuring Dani filth from cradle of filth. You will love it mate.😁🤘 .
Toxicity is by far their best album. Every song is amazing. And perhaps Toxicity is their best song. Maybe not your favorite, but it's their best. You can listen to people asking you to check out their radio singles like Chop Suey and BYOB and Aerials, all great songs, but I highly recommend Science, Deer Dance, and Forest. Trust me.
Jay Rah, you've been reacting to such a diverse array of music, it's really impressive. I've gotta say it, I think you're ready for Frank Zappa. It's a dive into the deep end, it's not easy music to absorb on a single listen, but there's a lot to react to, for sure. Try "Inca Roads" from the album One Size Fits All. It's a reactor's rite of passage!
I think Toxicity is my favorite .... but I also really like CHOP SUEY and also AERIALS. I love about everything about this band ... the lead singer, their unusual harmonies, the banging rhythms (how about that drum set??)!!
I think you might find this one interesting. It's The Spencer Davis Group "I'm a Man" from 1967 white band out of England. Lead singer is Steve Winwood (keyboard, vocals) who became a huge success later on his own. This song has become under renewed focus due to it's current use in the number 1 Netflix show, The Umbrella Academy in a phenomenal fight scene (season 2, episode 2 near the end). It's short but really great. Even better when you hear it while watching the fight scene 😂 I love your intro BTW ua-cam.com/video/N0n1a6S6BWE/v-deo.html
Here's the live version from 1967. ua-cam.com/video/4_gFF-z9OS8/v-deo.html Played simple instruments back then and had to have actual voices with no enhancements.
Yeah Serj has a great voice. Right up there with Maynard and Greg Gaffigan He even cut a track with Tec N9ne a while back that’s really great. You should find his Dead Kennedys cover of ‘Holiday in Cambodia’ its a good way to dip your toes into puck rock
If you like spicy then you need to check out these 4 songs from Falling in Reverse: Popular monster And the trilogy to watch in order: Losing my mind Losing my life Drugs I challenge you to figure out what genre of music he is 🤔😂😂😂.
Hey brother you want to see something really fun and Awsome, check out this nine year old girl name Nandi, she is a drummer and she is kick ass, she plays the drums to this song and she kills it . it's worth checking out you will love her
You’ll really enjoy more SOAD. Check of their music video “ Sugar”, I think you’ll like it, especially considering you haven’t even begun to hear Serj spit bars and truth. You may be able to hear that other spiciness, which is their Armenian infusion. Not much real Armenian talent gets the spotlight, so when we were kids and they came out it was a big deal. They are a very deep group, much like that of Tool and Pink Floyd. Oh how I could watch you watch Pink Floyd all day, lol. Hope you fall into this rabbit hole because like others have stated, there really is not a bad song. I appreciate your videos, thank you!
Chop Suey music video!! thats a must for anyone getting into SOAD. The production on that song is incredible
System of a down are:

I always felt he has an operatic voice that works so very well 😘
Aerials is one of their beautiful songs IMHO. No one bigger back in the day, sadly no new music since forever
Didn’t know you hadn’t checked them out, or I would have suggested them. Serj has an incredible voice, and can go from a metal growl, to spitting fast bars, to beautiful melodic singing. Respect for the Lou Reed comment
"Straight Out The Gate" is a Tech N9ne and Serj Tankian(SOAD singer) collaboration. You should check it out sometime.
I think Toxicity is my favorite .... but I also really like CHOP SUEY and also AERIALS. I love about everything about this band ... the lead singer, their unusual harmonies, the banging rhythms (how about that drum set??)!!
