Nope, no keyboard. That was all Chris! He actually hits himself in his throat, with his hand, to break up the note. Incredible to watch. Incredible singer. He is missed.
I would at least put him in the top three, and I would also include one of Chris’s favorite artists (and mine): Jeff Buckley. Although he didn’t get the chance to have the amazing career Chris did since his career was just really taking off and he was about to record his second studio album when he died (of accidental drowning) in 1997. Chris wrote the song Wave Goodbye in memory of Jeff; it’s on his 1999 solo album.
if you are not careful. You just might turn into a metalhead. The stank face You posses when " You get it " is so refreshing and genuine. This from the cool cat in Dallas. Love your originality and passion.
Dude I am having soooo much fun watching you discover Chris Cornell. I don’t know if you know but the band behind Chris in Audioslave is the band that backed Zack de la Rocha in Rage Against The Machine. It’s nice to see when young folks who’ve mostly just heard rap and hip hop their whole lives discover a truly great band like Soundgarden and an epic singer like Chris. I don’t know if anyone suggested it but Rusty Cage was also a good Soundgarden tune and Spoonman kicks ass!! The video is awesome too. Yeah, please do Spoonman!! Chris Cornell also did a version of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean that’s cool too.
I once saw a video on Facebook that had the worlds 100 best guitarists, and it defined each guitarist with a single sentence. For Tom Morello, it said "Tom Morello...he wins the 'has never played an unoriginal lick or riff in his life' award." I would call that 120% accurate.
I really love watching someone NEW to Chris listen for the first time. When he died, I was devastated, and for multiple reasons. His voice, is by far, one of the GREATEST rock voices VOICES of ALL TIME - PERIOD. I saw him LIVE in 2014 - A tiny show in a tiny theatre. He had cancelled the main gig due to bronchitis and this was a make-up the he MADE SURE TO RESCHEDULE and he kept his word. I didn't know this was the one and only time I would ever see him alive. It was an acoustic show - just him - and I'm so honored and humbled to have had the moment in my life to simply have been, for a moment, in his artistic world. What a fucking loss. I miss him deeply - along with so many others. If you haven't listened to ' Jesus Christ Pose ' make sure to. Watch the video with it. It's early on in his career. God Bless!!
Off ramp, 1990s moes, at one point they were just another local band playing on a Saturday night in a Seattle club. Soundgarden. Never saw rage but loved toms riffs,
Chris really left earth some great, great stuff... His craftsmanship... i know his nice to look at lol. Which got a lot of attention. But, wow, just wow. His talent was just brilliant. Generations will respect the Chris cornell, inspire writers, poets, singers....
"I am the highway" Chris Cornell was a phenomenal singer R.I.P. you should check out his cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. Just him and a guitar.
The is solo broken up with a phasing, fluttering effect by Tom Morello, achieved by using a combination of tremolo picking the high E-string, using his trademark Dunlop Cry Baby wah pedal and a ring modulator effect.[1] On the final note, singer Chris Cornell achieves an unusual effect by repeatedly striking his throat with the side of his hand while changing pitch.[2
Awesome reaction! Chris is just amazing, top favorite singers Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, and Rodney James Dio. i'd like to suggest Audioslave - Shadows on the Sun or Exploder. and Alice in Chains - Rain when I die. Side note.. its not "Nail in my hand" its "Nail in my head" talking about being like Frankenstein. "Built with stolen parts, telephone in my heart, someone get me a priest" dunno why they put that but eh, still sick.
That riff is #NastierThanWhitePeoplePotatoSalad o_O LOL That totally deserves its own hashtag. Brad & Tim are one of the most solid, groovingest, rhythm sections I've ever seen, & they don't get enough love- kudos for at least looking up their names. :)
The lyric is actually nail in my head ....he is referring to himself as a Frankenstein that God made...the nail is depression and asking God to show him how to fix or overcome it....that is what I get from the song
Surprisingly the first time I heard this song was at a fraternity beer pong tournament (2018) and the guy who played it makes soundcloud raps every once in a while...go figure lol. Got me hooked on the grunge/rock sound right there. Banger of a song, good message, same as you I'm mesmerized by the ending when he changes his voice. Keep it up!
Try one more from Chris Cornell, it's called hunger strike! It's a pearl jam and soundgarden collaboration, over the death of longtime friend andrew wood. They called the collaboration Temple of the dog. One of the greatest albums ever dedicated to anyone!
I’ve watched a good amount of your videos so far, and like. I just gotta say. You’re fucking awesome. It’s so cool to see people who are open minded in music despite the major genre they listen to. Keep up the good work brother and God bless. I got a song for you that mashed up Metal AND hip hop. I know this video is a alternative rock song, but, regardless!!! Check out Public Enemy and Anthrax - Bring the Noise. I think you’ll dig it, it’s a cool collab.
Can't say for sure in this case, but that effect you asked about Tom was doing on the solo, he sometimes does it by unplugging the guitar cable and touching the tip of the jack on the strings close to the pickups. Also, something he does a lot is to use the switch he has on the lower part of the guitar (either a toggle switch or killswitch, not sure what's the correct one). Of course he has a bunch of other pedals and effects going, but I think that's what that is.
IMHO, Chris was the best singer ever. Losing him was the worst. I miss him so much. There are so many videos to send you to watch..omg. Thank you for taking the time to do the ones you have. :) My personal favorite is his performance on David Letterman singing Incessant Mace. It is hands down perfection. ua-cam.com/video/4P_OmmCx00o/v-deo.html
"Cochise" official video, you will freak out. oh and I've been white my entire life and I never ate potato salad with raisins in it ever, never even heard of it. Red Skin tater salad ftw.
"I am the highway"...you will love the vocals from him on that...he hardly comes up for air...he holds the notes out on it so much that one word goes into the next.

Oh no, dont put that shit on us, lol, we yankees like normal potato salad. Must be a midwest thing....but i will say that "White People Potato Salad" might just be my new band name.
The song could be interpreted as someone talking to God. But Chris said that the song is actually about Frankenstein's Monster, hence the built with stolen parts. The song is all about how he was abandoned by his creator and now he has no idea how to be a human.
In the studio that last voice effect is probably an electric effect, but you can get the same effect by singing a note and tapping your Adams apple, give it a try!
He gets that choppy guitar effect by a custom toggle switch he gets from the hardware store. Its basically an on/off switch that he works underhand like a DJ. He gets really creative with it.
I seen a live Video where he only used one hand on the Strings to create that sound. No toggles, no peddling . . Just straight one handed finger picking
This collab was insane..freakin' special. You should also check out Velvet Revolver..includes Slash (guitarist for Guns -n- Roses) and Scott Weiland (lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots)
You sir! Are absolutely adorable and I’m enjoying your reaction to my favorite bands and what I grew up on. I suggest system arials, bounce, chop suey. For some rage music, it’s my clean the house quick music.

Yeah, manual vibrato. I learned it from Fair to Midland's singer Darroh Sudderth, and when I heard Chris do it, I fuckin came.
From my humble point of view.... And humble it is, Chris Cornell is the best voice in rock music.
