System of a down had their breakthrough in the late 90ies, early 2000s. So they were kinda riding the same wave like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park or Slipknot. So bands in the "Nu Metal" genre. But they are too unique to put a label on them. They combine so many styles, creating their very own thing out of it. If you do a little research you can figure out that their style often is called "Alternative Metal". So they are more in a league with Deftones or Tool. Greetings from germany.

Just so you can understand the lyrics in the song one of the band members had this to say about the song: Guitarist Daron Malakian: "The song is about how when people die, they will be regarded differently depending on the way they pass. Like, if I were to die from a drug overdose, everyone would say I deserved it because I abused drugs, hence the line 'Angels deserve to die.'"

On the opposite side of that sea is another country called Romania, the source of almost all vampire related mythology going back hundreds of years (also the home of the infamous conquerer Vlad the impaler AKA "Dracula".) I'm over in Scotland and I've been listening to System of a Down for a really long time. I really liked your reaction as I really loved playing around with the vocals and listening to what's going into the song from each musician. There's a lot, so it can take quite a few listens to get everything down. They play around with not just nu-metal stuff in their albums but try to incorporate music from other cultures too and I think they blend it in so well.

My top five System tracks are Sad Statue, Darts, Highway Song, Science, and Temper (which doesn't appear on a studio LP). System's songs are varied and great. They tackle serious issues such as unjust imprisonment, the Armenian genocide of 1915, conscious awareness, societal manipulation, and political hypocrisy, usually with a somewhat comedic undertone. If you get the chance, you should listen to all five albums since you seem to like them a lot so far. You won't be disappointed.

this genre would be like "Nu-Metal" which is a weird genre, it is pretty hard but it doesn't have to stay that way for a whole song, so it breaks the mold of metal. the song is about how people that comnmit suicide are blamed and made to look evil or selfish or when people say they were just too weak etc .. so he cries when angels (people with mental health issues) "deserve to die" (according to society) . and thats why he says "father why have you forsaken me" because god turns his back on people who commit suicide even though they do it bnecause of a mental illness. the song is so deep im glad that you got some of it at least . alot of reactors dont get it and call him satanist or whatever .

methinks he’s talking about the inflated self-righteousness of christianity and having Jesus die for everyone. idk. That’s what I’ve always taken from it. Especially when he says: “father into your hands, I commend my spirit, father into your hands, why have you forsaken me?” Super biblical. cheers brotha.

System of a Down is its own thing to me, the vocalist trained classically to sing Armenian-American Folk music, the whole group are Americans of Armenian descent, so there's this great non-western musical influence, and then crazy melodic metal and Heavy political metal. I have three albums, at least.

Yeah, like someone else commented, there is somewhat of a biblical reference in this song. Self-righteous suicide and father why have you forsaken me is about Jesus being crucified. He couldve easily gotten out of it but He knew He would have to go through it to save mankind from sin. Self-righteous suicide was Him allowing His Earthly flesh to be killed for us.

7:57 yeah he creeps me out too 😂 Interesting fact, this song came out Aug 13, 2001. Right before the tragic September 11 attacks. The lyrics & the world changing 911 attacks are too much of a coincidence in my opinion. Great reaction though ❤
