The BEST Modern Adaptation of Superman
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 кві 2024
- Superman & Lois is a live-action DC CW show that exists outside the continuity of Arrowverse shows like The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow. The portrayal of Superman in the series is one of the best in recent years, compared to other adaptations such as Henry Cavill's in the DCEU with Zack Snyder's rendition, as well as the DCAMU. However, My Adventures with Superman also shares some of the lighthearted nature of Superman & Lois. James Gunn's upcoming film, SUPERMAN, which is set to kickstart the rebooted DCU, will hopefully share some of the same elements that make the character so special. This could be a possible glimpse at a new Justice League with the introductions of Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Mr. Terrific.

God I love that line so much " thanks my mom made it for me" it's something Superman would say and he's so happy too.
They took that line from the comics - it was a great moment!

@@manehriimao2079 thanks, I'll definitely check it out
His super suit was originally made by Martha out of his baby blanket he was wrapped in from krypton.
The fact that most of the adaptations of Superman lately especially this one, the new 52 animated movies, and My Adventures with Superman actually get the Superman character and Clark and Lois's love story right is so great to me
I don’t about Lois and Clarke or the new 52 dc films

Question how good is the show?
I will never watch the show
But I am curious

@@kadegetslaid634 cool
I'm so confused about why Superman & Lois is barely talked about in any community.
Everyone is whining about a faithful Superman & yet this show rarely gets mentions. I swear people talk about My Adventure with Superman more than this show.
Because it's a cw show and the show is padded down with drama
It's a great show. Except I think that because they are a 15 episode show where each episode is like 45minutes long they had to padd out the show with drama. If it was an 8 hour show with 8 episodes I think it would have been a better show with less fluff
@@vincentluong7550i don't get why people forget there drama in the comics, there's human elements to every story. Yes I didn't like Sarah Cushing after the Jordan thing but not once I hadn't had a good time with this show. Like Supergirl and later season of the Flash were trash.
@@KonEl17 not all of the drama was bad. However I would say outside of the drama with the Kent's family. I didn't really care for any of the other drama. Yes there was drama in the comics however it never felt like they had to add drama to the stories to pad out the comics. I felt that superman and lois due to them having 15 episode seasons and they didn't have an insane budget either. They were limited to having to pad out the runtime with drama
@@vincentluong7550 then how would you compare Smallville probably the 1nd most notable tv live action Superman title. That was a 20 to 24 eps showing then budget couldn't be as high as S&L
Tyler is extremely underrated as Superman. Superman & Lois will be missed, but I hope they are able to finish the show strong.
Agreed.
HBO didn't co-produce Superman and Lois, it was wholly funded by The CW.
Yeah, Jordan having anxiety is a normal thing for teenagers, but I think that having Clark as a parent being so heavily affected by this normal, human occurrence helped ground the show.
This. It's such a weird rumor that gets passed around without any evidence. HBO is just a secondary distributor. Berlanti just negotiated with the CW for a larger budget and shorter seasons (so they could spend more time on it) because it's Superman and would bring prestige to the network and possibly allow them to charge more for ad slots. They've lowered the budget for the final season, sadly (which is why the regular cast is shrinking), but hopefully they can make do. I trust the writers at this point.
@@Swenglishwow didn’t know that
A lot of people lost their poop with Superman telling Kara she was stronger than him etc, but Clark having zero ego and saying that stuff to help build up his cousin is to me the most Superman thing Superman would say! (and yes - "S&L" is an awesome show and I can't wait for the final season!)
I wasn't interested in this show until I saw the "Thanks, my mom made it for me" clip about his suit, then I was sold. It legitimately took five seconds of just writing Superman as he is in the comics to sell me. That just goes to show how badly the character has been handled in recent years.
Tyler Hoechlin did a great job as Superman, even on the CW Supergirl series, despite that series disrespecting Superman to hype up Supergirl. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman in the Superman and Lois series is a great modernization of the character, as he's allowed to act like Superman, while also doing some things different with the character that further develops his character. Tyler Hoechlin does justice to who Superman is and what he stands for, while also showing how Superman is still relevant in modern times.
The more praise this show gets, the better.
Elizabeth Tulloch is easily my favourite Lois Lane.
I will never lost interest in Superman no matter how much Dc hate him or nerf him. I will watch any thing that has Superman in it
Also. This isn’t a CW show. This produced by HBO, just like Stargirl. It was only streamed on CW
Ty someone giving this show love, spread the love!!!!
I think the show really knows what makes Superman great. Whenever he’s given a moment for himself, Superman shines. Tyler is in my top 3 Superman actors. Unfortunately, the rest of the show isn’t really interesting to me.
Sad that Henry Cavill has the Superman appearance to him. But he’s so underutilized. Tyler does Superman right with character development.
Henry is aware of this but Snyder instructed him not to smile too much, to keep with Snyder's dour and sour vision of the character
I love Superman n Lois , I need a season 4 in my life
We’re getting a season 4 but it’ll be the last season.
@TheRealHerbaSchmurba I don't mind tbh, it was gonna end at season 4-5 anyway and if they stretch it out farther it's more likely it'll get worse
@@TheRealHerbaSchmurba and for a bullshit reason, too. I wish the characters from most of the DCTV shows came back for another multiverse crossover since many of these shows didn't get a proper ending and have it end with most of those shows retconned in the same universe just like the Crisis did with the CW DC shows at the time!
And also a lot of the actors won't be returning. @@kadegetslaid634

I love Superman and I'm happy he is slowly but surely getting more and more respect
After a decade of Injustice Superman and Zack Snyder’s Superman practically brainwashed a certain group of fans for the last decade, it’s no surprise that Superman and Lois and My Adventures With Superman just feels like a breath of fresh air.
You mean reignite fans love for Superman because that is the Superman we need now.
Im Glad My Boy Tyler Hoechlin Superman is Getting The Respect He Deserves
Superman and Lois is My Favorite Superman Adaptation Of All Time.
All I hear are facts
*3:33** They also stated, with Diggle saying it, that in this Universe(Earth-25) Green Arrow went missing while on earth 1 He Clearly dies & everybody knew it*
Unpopular opinion: Sam Lane's season 2 finale speech on was the worst moment of the entire show. The dialogue was forced and felt less like a Superman and Lois moment and more like a Warner Bros moment. Because they needed a way to confirm that the show was NEVER part of the Arrowverse. They could’ve just made all of the show’s changes part of the Earth Prime changes. Even if you hate the Arrowverse, leading the fans on with Diggle cameos and mentioning Oliver and the Crisis for two straight seasons was a dick move that disrespects the fans' intelligence. Which is exactly what Warner Bros does, especially with DC fans.
And even at the time, I knew the retcon was gonna be pointless. Which proved me right because after the following season, it was announced to be cancelled after the next season!
Between the retcon and Legends of Tomorrow, the 3rd official Arrowverse show, getting cancelled on a fucking cliffhanger, just so they wouldn't have to pay for the sets anymore, the last-ever official Arrowverse season was a bad final season of a once great show that cares more about simping for a badly written side character and less about giving the characters an exciting, definitive and respectful ending.
The Arrowverse-scratch that-MOST DCTV shows in general deserved better management. And I can't think of a better way to give them an epic ending than by making another multiverse crossover! With better writing, VFX, etc! And then have it end with most of the shows retconned in the same universe, something many of the fans of these shows have always wanted. They could always bring back this universe in whichever project the same way the DCAU returns in a different project once in a while. The fans of all these shows want it, most of the actors of these shows want it, some of the writers of these shows want it. However, I won't be surprised if the writers/producers of S&L don't want it.
@@AJ-xc4qe Based Truth, I Agree with everything you said, & a little trivia:
Both Constantine City of Demons & Deathstroke Knights & Dragons were originally part of the Arrowverse, But Warner then stated that Constantine Was actually in the DCAMU but the writers said otherwise & now that show is in a limbo & depending on who do you ask, the show is either part of the Arrowverse or the DCAMU; & with Deathstroke, in the first draft of Knights & Dragons, the show was directly connected to Arrow s6 Finale, but later the project was re-written to be its own separate thing
@@AJ-xc4qelol
Agreed hands down a great version of the character.
I have seen alls of the seasons for this show and I gotta say this Superman might be my new favorite version of the character not gonna lie
Superman & Lois is basically what the DCEU's Superman should've been hopeful, optimistic, and most of all likable. Superman is the ideal superhero he's not a boring edgelord. Making Superman an edgelord takes away what makes his character so great. Superman isn't an edgelord he's an optimist he believes in good no matter what. Hopefully James Gunn's Superman will be as good as Tyler Hoechlin's that's what DC films desperately need. I'm tired of dark evil Superman it doesn't work and it's overused. It's time for superheroes to be heroic again.
Ironic coming from the guy who like the ANTI-S*mitic Moon Knight 2022 Show, aparently disrespecting characters is Ok aslong if SPECIFICALLY you from all people don't care about the source material 🤢🤮
superman and lois is probably one of the best.
Will see how Gunn's version go. They are using their best storyline.
6:43, Right after this threat, he slightly softens the blow by adding that he will use his investigative skills to expose his various crimes and have him arrested. As menacing as he intended to be, he still is depicted as having enough restraint to cause too much damage or exploit his power to brutalize a relatively defenseless man, because at his core, he is a compassionate and honorable person.
This is what Snyder’s depiction missed in his depiction of a more flawed, somber and insecure version of Clark. His compassion was far more generalized and his restraint was born more out of fear of persecution rather than compassion for the people around him. Killing Zod could be justified with the lack of other methods to decisively beat him and prevent further immediate loss of life like Kryptonite, by the African warlord was completely defenseless and with his abilities (especially his speed, which he is shown to have better control over in sequels to the point where he can avoid generating pressure waves with his movements), he options to subdue him rather than ram him through a wall, and he too threatened Lois with a gun.
It’s not to say every aspect of that adaptation was wrong or that a Superman developing and solidifying his morals with experience doesn’t work (Smallville is famous for it and some elements of that series can be seen in Man Of Steel, most notably Clark vandalizing a bullies truck), but with the trajectory Batman V Superman went, with Clark immediately resorting to killing a normal human and failing to immediately inform Bruce on Luthor’s plans instead of getting baited into a fight, those flaws were never intended to be rectified with character growth like in Smallville.
He reminds me of the 50's Superman George Reeve.HUGE COMPLIMENT!!! Minus the boys pf course.
I hope supes & lois gets appreciated by the fans at least now that it's ending, when the time comes this show will become a classic Superman adaptation
As a huge Supermnan fan, I am fed up of evil Superman depictions. I just want another feel-good Superman film like the Chris Reeve days. Maybe not as campy, but the classic fly up into the earth and smile at the camera moment.
superman and lois is one of the best CB shows we have got, could be the best CB show we got.
This is now my favorite live action Superman. He feels so genuine & can be really funny
I watched ten minutes of this show, and I was hooked.
Yes more love for Superman and Lois here’s hoping it gets a worthy send off
I actually met this Superman at comic con he's a really nice guy
The thing about this Superman that got me was the beard. They try to keep him clean shaven at first but eventually just give up and honestly, it's not a bad look. Superman (and other heroes) usually has(/ve) a beard to show a time skip or something but seeing Superman with a beard in a normal setting is pretty cool.
thankfully superman and lois took an entirety different direction than the arrowverse
4:34 thank you. my wife and I have binged this show and love it but yea Sarah is just the worst we both love talking shit about her lol.
Imma give it a watch definitely because I loved watching the CW legends stuff arrow and the flash.
My fav superman
What an excellent, well thought out, and concise analyses/review of this show. Spot on on every point. I had no hope for this series and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
I remember months ago kind of saying the 2020s as a possible "renaissance" for Superman after the characters dark age of the 2010s as well as say "Superman & Lois" being seen as the best piece Superman media in years, "My Adventures with Superman" despite myself having a hard time getting into it.....does have its audience and even the comics seem to be giving us future classics like "The Warworld Saga". Maybe James Gunn's "Superman" will be a hit and we may get a great Superman miniseries starring Brandon Routh.
While "Superman: TAS" and "Superman & Lois" are easily the two best Superman shows with how they go above and beyond with their quality. All a Superman show really needs do for me is to be is good comfort and the George Reeves show "The Adventures of Superman", "Lois and Clark: The New Superman Adventures" and even "Smallville" succeed in that regard.
I agree. My favorite Superman iterations to re-watch are Lois and Clark and Fliesher's Superman cartoons and, of course, Smallville.
This IS Superman.
Tyler Hoechlin was a really great Superman. He's portrayal of the character ranks in my top three. He's the first modern day Superman since Tom Welling to get the characters personality right. I rank Brandon Routh low because he was basically Christopher Reeves Superman all over again. Henry Cavill definitely had the potential to be the best modern day Superman. But some of the writing prevented that. Tyler Hoechlin definitely understood the character. So for that he's up there with Christopher Reeve and Tom Welling.
Also something cool is that this show at least for the first two seasons doesnt actually have a bigger budget then the other CW shows.
Season 3 is 50 % drama n 50% sweet spot it was bitter sweet
Tyler and Bitsie have such amazing chemistry, it's one of the main reasons this show is as good as it is. I missed the show as it was being released, so I ended up binging it last year and was really upset with myself that it took so long for me to watch these episodes. A shame season four is the last one.
Nailed it about this show. Very underrated portrayals. Tyler is one of the best Clark Kent/Superman portrayals we've had. In Supergirl he wasn't as well received, but the Superman and Lois show really stepped up their game with the writing. So good, will miss it when it's gone
this show actually made me like and interested in superman
6:37 Oh Snap!!! 😮😮😮
This is my absolute favorite DC show of all time, it adapts Superman amazingly. This and Stargirl are both the best DC modern shows imo.
Tyler Hoechlin >>> Henry Cavill
Not saying Henry is an inferior actor, but Zack Snyder proved he doesn't know sh!t about the dichotomy of Superman and Clark Kent
I think this video makes the best possible argument for why this adaptation of the character is by far one of the best possible ones ever put to screen. Any "DC Fan" who dogs on it with "dollar store superman" or "cosplay" is missing out on it so much
@ 3:15 I believe the show WAS taking place on the same Earth. Lois having twins instead of just Jonathan was a crisis change and it was mentioned at the end of the event, Lois says something about the boys waiting for Clark and he responded with "Boys? Plural?". Then somewhere during season 2 of the show the showrunners decided they didn't want to be apart of the cw nonsense anymore and had John Diggle claim they're on a diff earth.
It made no sense, still doesn't, but it's whatever doesn't affect a whole lot.
And this is why I am pissed that they are canceling Superman & Lois. They clicked on every aspect of Superman and family that I practically felt like I was a part of their journey. WB needs to open their eyes and actually consider these masterpieces
I never got around to watching Superman & Lois because it’s labeled as a CW show. But from the things I’ve seen from this series interests me
Definitely give it a watch, it’s really good and very different from the other CW shows
@@LuisMorales-ly1fn bet I will
Smallville is better but its close
My conspiracy theory is that some high executive in WB really hates Superman and greenlights every project that will depict him as a bad character. They actively tried to sabotage Superman and Lois with the changes in platform and giving them as little publicity as possible
GREAT VIDEO BROTHER🖤✊
Thank you for saying this. Tyler is the goat for me so far after reeves
I have a lowkey hot take. Tylers is my favourite interpretation of live action superman, BY FAR. And im coming to the conclusion that maybe superman would suit better in a tv show over a movie.
Facts, i pray DCU Superman is based off DCAU Superman
this is the best superman live action show after smallvile
I love Tyler Hoechlin for Derek in Teen Wolf!
Hes so good and underrated af
Agreed 100%
There are no lies in this video
It's kinda Ironic how CW needed to change a lot of Key Aspects of Superman because they gave those aspects to Supergirl, & as an end result we got THE BEST ADAPTATION OF SUPERMAN EVER & the worst adaptation of Supergirl ever 🤔
It’s because Tyler Hoechilin is an extremely underrated actor thats why is portrayal of the man in blue is so good.
Dude, at the end of Crisis, Clark finds out that one of the changes was that he now has two sons instead of one. Johnathan and Jordan. That's why most people would assume Superman & Lois was still Arrowverse.
Agree. Tyler did an extremely awesome work as the character and the writers interpret hin very well. Love Seasons 1 and 3. The season 2 story was garbage but his acting never failed.
You convinced me, I'll go check out a few episodes from the series.
Episode 1 and 11 together form almost a perfect little origin for Superman. If you haven't watched the episodes in-between, some of the main plot in 11 isn't quite going to make sense. But if you like those ones enough, you'd probably enjoy just watching the whole season. But those two are definitely the best episodes, of probably the whole series.
I agree. It is a pity the series is coming to an end. This is certainly the best Superman live-action TV series.
Honestly I’m so glad we can FINALLY chill on Batman! I LOVE Batman, but all this dark and gloom has lost its edge for me. I wanna see Superman hope again lol
this show has my favorite Superman action scene (besides MOS flight and Smallville fight) when Clark saves the day in the S2 finale
Superman- The Animated Series is the Best
2:14 dude this was basically how Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 ended and treated Peter Parker. It’s like the same team wrote it.
I never realized how much I like super man until I started just talking about the stories I read.
In every fandom there's always a bunch of people who think that a specific character should be a jerk. I remember people saying "Superman isn't a goody two shoes. He bullied people in the old comics". Some even say that DCEU Superman is comic accurate. They think being dark is a good personality trait. Positive people are lame. Even in the Spider-man fanbase there're fans who think Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-man simply because he was cocky. These kind of people really hate nice guys. And don't get me started with Batman fans. They hate to see him smile. They want him to be dark, edgy, cold, rude.
As a Batman fan, yes. I want some of those things. But only for characters like Batman. Because I believe all superheroes walk two paths. Either they walk in the dark, cut from the cloth of Batman's cape. Or they stand in the light like Superman. So archetypal are those first two superheroes that I think they're the models for everything that comes after. A hero that follows Superman's example is never going to be like Batman. So Superman himself damn well better never be.
The plots gets a little out there but the themes and characters are there
It's a real shame that this is the version of Superman, it's outstanding cast is the one that is getting candled. The last 3 seasons have been consistently fantastic, and if anything has improved. I don't know about season 4 though don't know if it's out yet. And the reason for it being canceled is just stupid, it will conflict with James Gunn's vision! I am looking forward for Gunn's take on Superman but that's over a year away, another season of Superman and Lois could be made and released in that time. I guess the one positive form this show being canceled prematurely, is that at least we can say that it has been consistently good. Unlike a lot of CW shows, kind of bitter sweet when you think about it.
It's a nice change, superhero movies were moving for a while into a dark and edgy vibe, and most superheroes are not that. This series gets it, and i hope James Gunn get it too, or we might get another bomb like the snyder dcu.
My Superman is Tom Welling, but Tyler is good.
This show is good. I was worried because how bad they did Supes wrong on SuperWokeGirl show.
All the live action Supermen ranked:
1. Christopher Reeve
2. Tom Welling
3. Tyler Hoechlin
4. Henry Cavill
5. Brandon Routh
6. Dean Caine
To me, Brandon had the least personality. But maybe that was just his movie because I liked him as Superman in that crossover.
I really love superman and this show is it.
I would really love to see you do a full video on their version of lex luthor !
I agree with everything in this video. Snyder was trying to do the alien who doesn't know how to interact with humanity and just made him to be a miserable person. If the script was better it would be better than what we got. Still Superman will always be the GOAT
To be fair… 🤓 in the end of Crisis when the new Earth 1 was made, Lois said “Boys”. The show when it started it was in Arrowverse, but they made best decision ever in season 2, when the show runners said it’s on it’s own Earth.
Superman and Lois is a great show, but the best adaptation of Superman is 100% Smallville
Can we talk about the amazing music too?
DC treats Superman/Clark Kent like Paramount treats Mr. Spock.
Yep finally someone actually breaks down the beauty of Superman and Lois from the music to the acting from Tyler is just fucking glorious
Just remember that Zack Snyder unironically (and probably unintentionally, since he clearly doesn't read comics) quoted Manchester Black at a panel, to justify his adaptation.
Please keep that man as far away from our boi Clark. PLEASE.
I didn't have an initial issue with CW Supergirl being STRONGER than Superman because in some comic stories; that is accurate!
However, it was the fact that they constantly had to make it known that she IS stronger and even worse Supes was the one who had to drive that point home at least half a dozen times; as seen in your montage.
Seriously, there were gassing him up at the start of Season 2 like he was HIM but it got watered down a lot especially in the Season 2 finale when he was no longer that guy anymore smh
I've really enjoyed this show, which I didn't expect to after how he was written in the Supergirl series.
I feel bad for sleeping on this, epsecially when I loved Tyler in Teen Wolf and planned to watch it in the first place before the DCEU made me sour on watching DC live action in general. You were right, Superman shouldn't be seen as some kind of god or messiah figure like the movies try to portray himself as. That's the last thing the man himself wants to be seen as. There's a reason he's called a boy scout.
I’d argue that Superman & Lois isn’t the best thing DC put on the CW, but one of the best things DC has put on any television platform period. Up there with Peacemaker!
4:50 is so crazy how u get mad that u get slapped after saying that lmfaooo
You 1000% understand superman!
This show got better every season
