Peacemaker, the elephant in the room of the DCU. He thinks we can’t see him, but we definitely can. The DCU is almost a clean slate but then you got that damn ending in Season 1. I hope they’ll be some retcon that explain away that appearance.

@ParkerCS2 Peacemaker was a minor part of the DCEU hence why its not a big deal and still can be considered a more hard than soft Reboot imo as the vast majority of characters are being recast. Keeping Cavill and others but rebooting events would be very stupid imo and even more confusing to everyone as why not just continue the DCEU at that point

From what I understand, events similar to The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker happened, but aren't 100% canon. Basically if someone died, like Captain Boomerang in The Suicide Squad, but his death isn't mentioned or he appears later in the DCU, that means he didn't die in those version of events. Or if like Harley Quinn wasn't shown or mentioned to be part of the Suicide Squad, then that means she wasn't in those events of the film
Another that would help is Young Justice season 4. In it, Razer from Green Lantern TAS appears, but Greg Weisman said it's not the exact same Razer, just YJ's own variant of Razer that follows the same events. You could also say the same with Avengers Endgame. Say, for example the 2012 where Loki got the Tesseract, prior to that the events are the exact same as the Avengers, but what happened onwards are different.
Him not having to Force a script to push for a justice league Formation storyline will definitely justify his quality to quantity approach and I'm definitely up for it,Fingers crossed.

I’m pretty sure a big part of the first part is about transitioning from characters like Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and the Authority being in charge to characters like Super Man, Green Lanterns, and the Justice League taking over.

How does getting the co-lead role in an hbo series constitute getting benched? Yea, he’s a bit older than what you preferred, but he’s definitely not just disappearing after this series. He’s already an established GL legend, that gives plenty of opportunities for movies set in the past about Hal.
@ so far it’s only speculation, but established narrative convention from similar stories/projects in the past shows us that legend mentors don’t last long in stories-often helping set up their protégé before dying somehow. The actor for Hal is only signed on for one season with no other projects in this universe-as far as we know. If they do show Hal Jordan stories from the past, they’ll be before the Justice League forms-so we’ll never see him interact with Superman, Batman, Barry, and the rest of the league despite the fact that he’s supposed to be a founding member. Even if they’re going with post-crisis continuity, it still doesn’t make sense for him to be so old by the time John is introduced.

No other Green Lantern has accomplished as much as Hal Jordan has in their entire history. Even if you just search it up on google, Hal pops up. Everything he worked on along with some of the events or Blue Beetle are canon. From Creature Commandos on, nothing else from the DCEU is canon unless its mentioned in the DCU. It's not complicated, DC has done the same with Batman and Green Lantern in every comics reboot, everything you liked about those characters' stories is canon unless it contradicts with something in the new canon. Basically, don't worry about anything being canon or not until its stated to be canon in the new universe.
Timelines they mean time periods. Also, Time travel isn’t inherently bad as long as they only do it sparingly but yeah you’re right to be cautious and concerned. I don’t like the idea of some of the DCEU still being canon and not recasting everyone. Gunn picking and choosing is just stupid.

@@ParkerCS2 For a long while it wasn't confirmed to be canon following the fallout with Norton and the rights belonging to Universal who were playing hard ball with Disney. It was barely acknowledged by the higher ups. It wasn't until around the time of Civil War that Marvel started openly acknowledging the Norton movie and putting it in their timeline graphics. The Netflix shows went through a similar phase too while Marvel and Disney were beefing with Netflix.
It's literally simple. DCU is reboot with some similarities n events same as previous universe. Peacemaker is too good to be discarded I'm happy he's keeping it.

Honestly my only disappointment from whats announced is the fact that we are gonna skip over at least 2 full robin storylines to streamline into Damian.
In my opinion, it has never been confusing. It’s only been confusing for people trying to overthink it, or people with a preconceived disdain towards James Gunn.
I think we need to wait and see the first couple of projects to make a true opinion on what James is doing with the canon because I think right now he is having a hard time explaining it with words and we will just have to see for ourselves, but that part where he said there were more meta humans now than before and they were more a problem makes me think that the theory people have with the reverse Kingdom Come might actually be true somewhat. Also I do think that the Centre will be the main Villian for chapter 1 and it fits the theme they are going with and I think the first Justice League movie will be the New Frontier and it will serve as the closing movie to chapter 1.
im a james gunn fan i love his art of cinema and shows. i'll say something that is the harsh truth here and i support him for what i am about to say which is everything james gunn made related to any DC projects (live action) will be canon to DCU and any projects that was not made by him will not be canon to DCU. which makes sense from a business perspective and he is the CEO if he likes his projects then its his wish if he is going to keep it or not.
I think itll be pretty simple to understand once the first few projects are out. Theyll probably do a Peacemaker S1 recap were they reshoot the JL scene and replace them with some of the heros in Superman and therefore make Season 1 canon. Then besides that they will refer to events in The Suicide Squad making the EVENTS of that movie canon but gives them leeway to maybe recast a character or two like Harley Quinn. I think once the first 3 projects are out this canon debate will be pretty irrelevant and resolved.
They should’ve went hard reboot. And made peacemaker and every other suicide squad project as elseworlds. If they wanted a soft reboot they should’ve kept Henry Cavill instead of disrespectfully firing him. You’re a hypocrite if you like Gunn’s reboot approach.

Kind of whst happens when you don't have a starting point like the MCU did with Iron man. Don't need an origin story, but just an introduction to these versions of Superman and Batman to begin. Then World's Finest crossover. Then build up the rest of the Justice League. Instead it's everything is canon, even shows/movies that are completely insignificant. It's not easy to follow. It's not linear.
I don’t doubt the quality of any of the announced DCU projects (besides Brave and the Bold if really directed by Muschietti) but I just can’t take it seriously that so far this announcements and lineup are a conscious and planned strategy for a new DC connected universe to build an audience. I know people are really hyped but you can’t tell me that these priority projects with Z listers, spin offs and continuing projects from the dead DCEU makes sense from a marketing viewpoint in a company with so many superhero flops trying to earn money out of this. Like really, the DCU will start with CREATURE COMMANDOS instead of Superman, and the priority after Superman is season 2 of Peacemaker from the previous universe and not Batman, WW, or any of the big guys.

The moment I see Damian soloing high level fighters like Deathstroke or Shiva or crippling Nightwing like he's just some chump off the streets I'm walking out of the theater. Damian needs to actually grow and not feel like someone's fan fiction if they wanna sell him to me. Gunn is good with character building so I have faith in him but Damian is a red flag for me any time I see him. They also need to do away with that wild ass story where Talia grapes Bruce to conceive Damian or at least address it seriously.

Gunn said that Peacemaker season 1 is canin to the DCU and they'll address the Justice League cameo in season 2. That means The Suicide Squad is also canon but some of the events and people were slightly different like Margot Robie not being Harley.
Origin stories: I think Gunn had it right with Rocket's story in Guardians 3. Heartbreaking thrill ride with an upbeat ending. Canon: He's the boss, so he can do what he wants; but now, he's turned every movie into one ginormous easter egg hunt, the eggs being every single off hand comment, every computer display, every bookshelf, every poster, every prop. You guys are gonna have a blast. (I'm only invested in Quinn; the rest of it's fun, but I'm not picky). I think you can trust Gunn. I'm gonna have to trust Robbie can license BoP, because that looks like the only thing left. At least Lehto won't be rearing his ugly head.
I am so happy that James Gunn is trying something new and creative for the DCU. Rather than reusing the marvel formula. I am extremely excited to see what he’s going to do with these characters and established lore. I hope the theme of hope is a through-line throughout the plan. I’m just sick of the pessimistic, nihilism that is in so many shows like The Boys, GoT, and stuff like that. It be nice for the DCU to be about hope and optimism , not just preachy politics or “nothing matters” nihilism.
After Guardians the suicide squad and peacemaker I have trust in James Gunn. He's not just randomly throwing shit at the wall and looking at what sticks like the previous old guard. He's slowly establishing villains as well as the heroes. Creature commandos is filled with villains like circe clayface doc phosphorus and Amanda Waller for a reason. The biggest critique of the MCU has been that the villains are forgettable. With the current slate the villains can develop alongside the heroes without rushing into a Trainwreck like BvS or Snydercuts or suicide squad with Tekkashi 69 version as the Joker. He's already setting up Superman,Batman,green lanterns Hal John and Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific. That's 4/6ths of the justice League core members. But he's also paying off with Waller,Clayface and Circe.
Honestly as much as i believe in James Gunns vision and structure hes providing DCs movie and show slate and his track record makes ot easier but man the more I hear about the Lanterns the less excited I get😂 the whole grounded and realistic tone is not something associated with Green Lantern and it feels like its gonna be its own thing rather than drawing influence from the source material not to mention aging up Hal Jordan which just makes me think hes not gonna last long which sounds like such a waste but hey ill wait for a teaser
You need to read more GL comics because they have tons of grounded stories, especially the GL/GA run where John Stewart was introduced and became a pupil to Hal.

Well it’s not just James Gunn inheriting control of the DC universe he’s also partnered with peter safran. James gunn won’t be writing/ directing every movie, he’s gonna allow the creatives to make their own product. I’m sure once the universe gets started, they’ll explain what is and isn’t going on in the DCU. I think fans should hold back criticism until the projects actually finish and come out.

as far as i can tell there is no DCU Canon - at least not for a long time - if they ever get anywhere with the first projects to be release - which are 1 - CREATURE COMMANDOS 2 - SUPERMAN 3 - PEACEMAKER SEASON 2 4 - SUPERGIRL WOMAN OF TOMORROW What possible connection or canon can be established in these projects for the next 2-5 years ... nothing. The DCU is DOA imo, canonicity does not matter in this series which is why JG has repeatedly said hes focused on each movie being its own tone and style - they will barely connect to another if even at all, which is why early screenings of superman have left audiences telling JG he should have just #restoredthesnyderverse! All in all itll be cool to see a new superman movie, but i dont have any care for it goin elsewhere, imo its a one and done movie about superman.
It's easy to know why he is doing this. 1. He is into the monster/ gimmicky side of comics etc so no surprise 2 It's a way of testing the waters and seeing how his full length idea will be accepted. Animation is a cautious way of getting feedback. 3. He knows his demographic. Fan boys and girls who are more beta male/female than anything else.

From what I understand, events similar to The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker happened, but aren't 100% canon.
Basically if someone died, like Captain Boomerang in The Suicide Squad, but his death isn't mentioned or he appears later in the DCU, that means he didn't die in those version of events. Or if like Harley Quinn wasn't shown or mentioned to be part of the Suicide Squad, then that means she wasn't in those events of the film
Another that would help is Young Justice season 4. In it, Razer from Green Lantern TAS appears, but Greg Weisman said it's not the exact same Razer, just YJ's own variant of Razer that follows the same events.
You could also say the same with Avengers Endgame. Say, for example the 2012 where Loki got the Tesseract, prior to that the events are the exact same as the Avengers, but what happened onwards are different.

How does getting the co-lead role in an hbo series constitute getting benched? Yea, he’s a bit older than what you preferred, but he’s definitely not just disappearing after this series. He’s already an established GL legend, that gives plenty of opportunities for movies set in the past about Hal.
@ so far it’s only speculation, but established narrative convention from similar stories/projects in the past shows us that legend mentors don’t last long in stories-often helping set up their protégé before dying somehow. The actor for Hal is only signed on for one season with no other projects in this universe-as far as we know. If they do show Hal Jordan stories from the past, they’ll be before the Justice League forms-so we’ll never see him interact with Superman, Batman, Barry, and the rest of the league despite the fact that he’s supposed to be a founding member. Even if they’re going with post-crisis continuity, it still doesn’t make sense for him to be so old by the time John is introduced.

No other Green Lantern has accomplished as much as Hal Jordan has in their entire history. Even if you just search it up on google, Hal pops up. Everything he worked on along with some of the events or Blue Beetle are canon. From Creature Commandos on, nothing else from the DCEU is canon unless its mentioned in the DCU.
It's not complicated, DC has done the same with Batman and Green Lantern in every comics reboot, everything you liked about those characters' stories is canon unless it contradicts with something in the new canon. Basically, don't worry about anything being canon or not until its stated to be canon in the new universe.

@@ParkerCS2 For a long while it wasn't confirmed to be canon following the fallout with Norton and the rights belonging to Universal who were playing hard ball with Disney. It was barely acknowledged by the higher ups. It wasn't until around the time of Civil War that Marvel started openly acknowledging the Norton movie and putting it in their timeline graphics. The Netflix shows went through a similar phase too while Marvel and Disney were beefing with Netflix.
It's literally simple.
DCU is reboot with some similarities n events same as previous universe.
Peacemaker is too good to be discarded I'm happy he's keeping it.
It shouldn’t have any ties. A real reboot needs a clean slate. No carry overs, no past connections. And if he wanted to continue peacemaker then make it elseworlds and not part of the DCU.

The menu for the DC Universe is starting to look more and more delicious.
In my opinion, it has never been confusing. It’s only been confusing for people trying to overthink it, or people with a preconceived disdain towards James Gunn.
DC loves hiring logo designers. Create one that's only for use with James Gunn's universe. That way we know going in that it's part of his deal.
I think we need to wait and see the first couple of projects to make a true opinion on what James is doing with the canon because I think right now he is having a hard time explaining it with words and we will just have to see for ourselves, but that part where he said there were more meta humans now than before and they were more a problem makes me think that the theory people have with the reverse Kingdom Come might actually be true somewhat.
Also I do think that the Centre will be the main Villian for chapter 1 and it fits the theme they are going with and I think the first Justice League movie will be the New Frontier and it will serve as the closing movie to chapter 1.

im a james gunn fan i love his art of cinema and shows. i'll say something that is the harsh truth here and i support him for what i am about to say which is everything james gunn made related to any DC projects (live action) will be canon to DCU and any projects that was not made by him will not be canon to DCU. which makes sense from a business perspective and he is the CEO if he likes his projects then its his wish if he is going to keep it or not.
I think itll be pretty simple to understand once the first few projects are out.
Theyll probably do a Peacemaker S1 recap were they reshoot the JL scene and replace them with some of the heros in Superman and therefore make Season 1 canon. Then besides that they will refer to events in The Suicide Squad making the EVENTS of that movie canon but gives them leeway to maybe recast a character or two like Harley Quinn.
I think once the first 3 projects are out this canon debate will be pretty irrelevant and resolved.
They should’ve went hard reboot. And made peacemaker and every other suicide squad project as elseworlds. If they wanted a soft reboot they should’ve kept Henry Cavill instead of disrespectfully firing him. You’re a hypocrite if you like Gunn’s reboot approach.

Kind of whst happens when you don't have a starting point like the MCU did with Iron man. Don't need an origin story, but just an introduction to these versions of Superman and Batman to begin. Then World's Finest crossover. Then build up the rest of the Justice League. Instead it's everything is canon, even shows/movies that are completely insignificant. It's not easy to follow. It's not linear.
I don’t doubt the quality of any of the announced DCU projects (besides Brave and the Bold if really directed by Muschietti) but I just can’t take it seriously that so far this announcements and lineup are a conscious and planned strategy for a new DC connected universe to build an audience. I know people are really hyped but you can’t tell me that these priority projects with Z listers, spin offs and continuing projects from the dead DCEU makes sense from a marketing viewpoint in a company with so many superhero flops trying to earn money out of this. Like really, the DCU will start with CREATURE COMMANDOS instead of Superman, and the priority after Superman is season 2 of Peacemaker from the previous universe and not Batman, WW, or any of the big guys.

The moment I see Damian soloing high level fighters like Deathstroke or Shiva or crippling Nightwing like he's just some chump off the streets I'm walking out of the theater. Damian needs to actually grow and not feel like someone's fan fiction if they wanna sell him to me. Gunn is good with character building so I have faith in him but Damian is a red flag for me any time I see him. They also need to do away with that wild ass story where Talia grapes Bruce to conceive Damian or at least address it seriously.

Origin stories: I think Gunn had it right with Rocket's story in Guardians 3. Heartbreaking thrill ride with an upbeat ending.
Canon: He's the boss, so he can do what he wants; but now, he's turned every movie into one ginormous easter egg hunt, the eggs being every single off hand comment, every computer display, every bookshelf, every poster, every prop. You guys are gonna have a blast. (I'm only invested in Quinn; the rest of it's fun, but I'm not picky).

After Guardians the suicide squad and peacemaker I have trust in James Gunn. He's not just randomly throwing shit at the wall and looking at what sticks like the previous old guard. He's slowly establishing villains as well as the heroes. Creature commandos is filled with villains like circe clayface doc phosphorus and Amanda Waller for a reason.
The biggest critique of the MCU has been that the villains are forgettable. With the current slate the villains can develop alongside the heroes without rushing into a Trainwreck like BvS or Snydercuts or suicide squad with Tekkashi 69 version as the Joker.
He's already setting up Superman,Batman,green lanterns Hal John and Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific. That's 4/6ths of the justice League core members. But he's also paying off with Waller,Clayface and Circe.

You need to read more GL comics because they have tons of grounded stories, especially the GL/GA run where John Stewart was introduced and became a pupil to Hal.

Yea I ain’t gonna, as hyped as I am for the DCU the cannon of the DCU has me scratching my head. I’m still hyped 4 it tho

Well it’s not just James Gunn inheriting control of the DC universe he’s also partnered with peter safran. James gunn won’t be writing/ directing every movie, he’s gonna allow the creatives to make their own product. I’m sure once the universe gets started, they’ll explain what is and isn’t going on in the DCU. I think fans should hold back criticism until the projects actually finish and come out.
I don’t mind taking some things from dceu but overall DCU needs time be a clean slate, but I trust Gunn enough to do right by that
I’m hopeful but I’m also aware of the fact that if Superman fails then it’s over. 😭
Lmao this is nothing new to comic readers. It’s basically new 52 all over again. It’s a complete reboot except some things here and there still happened. It’s easier to just not think about it and take it as it comes. They will establish the new lore in the coming projects I’m guessing
As long as we don't have a Fox X-men or Transformers live action movies situation, we are good.
I believe there was a comment on a poll that said they should start with green lantern that way they can introduce brainiac them have him be the main villain in Superman or be a justice league villain if Superman happens to fail/can't beat braniac alone
Ngl Tudyk as DCU Clayface is a huge L imo. I'm sure he'll deliver a fine/great performance, but it was the perfect opportunity for someone new and theyre just going for Tudyk again?

I don't understand creature commandos is animated how it's gonna have any effect on live action DCU movies?
They want the voice actors to play their live action counterparts which is just insane. They want everything to be so connected that you have to watch everything even if you’re not an animation fan you have to watch everything. Same problem marvel has.

@ phases 4 & 5 have literally forced movies to be tied to tv shows as extra homework. You’re argument is invalid. You have to had watched WandaVision and Falcon and winter soldier to understand Doctor Strange 2 and the upcoming brave new world.

as far as i can tell there is no DCU Canon - at least not for a long time - if they ever get anywhere with the first projects to be release - which are
1 - CREATURE COMMANDOS
2 - SUPERMAN
3 - PEACEMAKER SEASON 2
4 - SUPERGIRL WOMAN OF TOMORROW
What possible connection or canon can be established in these projects for the next 2-5 years ... nothing. The DCU is DOA imo, canonicity does not matter in this series which is why JG has repeatedly said hes focused on each movie being its own tone and style - they will barely connect to another if even at all, which is why early screenings of superman have left audiences telling JG he should have just #restoredthesnyderverse!
All in all itll be cool to see a new superman movie, but i dont have any care for it goin elsewhere, imo its a one and done movie about superman.
It's easy to know why he is doing this.
1. He is into the monster/ gimmicky side of comics etc so no surprise
2 It's a way of testing the waters and seeing how his full length idea will be accepted. Animation is a cautious way of getting feedback.
3. He knows his demographic. Fan boys and girls who are more beta male/female than anything else.
