And that love TRULY trumps everything!!! (I think it also definitely helps that--aside from one of them having powers--they're the only people on planet who know what the other is going through. Like they are in a VERY unique situation and they literally do rely on each other to get through the day! The show honestly wouldn't work if it was just one of them.) I mean, down the line, I can see an outside force SOMEHOW pitting them against each other.....but as of now, their relationship is one of the most REFRESHING sibling relationships I've EVER seen on television!!!!

If the characters are written in a way that they behave like mature strong family, fans/viewers will love the show even the plot is weak. Thats whats been missing from other arrowverse shows. Arrow/Flash both suffered coz in each season, there was was always 1 or 2 main characters written unlikable. not the case with superman and lois s1.

I don't think it the budget as much how they use it. They're much better at hiding the iffier fx and because of the nature of Superman's powers many thing are easier to do in practical w cgi enhancement, like normal flying or feats of strength.
That the one thing I'll give Supergirl, it generally did have slightly better fx than Flash for some of the same reasons. They just weren't near as good at it as the S&L crew

All the other CW shows really need, is Superman and Lois' level of writing.
The problem is, WB TV oversee the writing of the show not CW.

A great script and great actors help, but it's wasted without good directing with a good vision.
The other cw shows honestly seem like everyone gets the script and written directions on the scenes and they just kinda go from there. Arrow specifically seems like the director calls in their shots most of the time, and the few times other people direct it is VERY obvious (James Bamford, for example).

I’m a Snyder guy but to be honest this is the most accurate representation of Superman we’ve had. Although I still do enjoy Henry Cavill as Superman.
Another reason imo is the weird release schedule.
They keep taking all these little breaks throughout the season and it's killed a lot of the hype and momentum they had early on.
We know they're already doing a second season so I only hope they avoid doing this next year.
Honestly, when I first heard about it I didn't care for it due to how badly CW DC shows have disappointed me (especially Supergirl, genuinely hope Melissa Benoist gets another opportunity to potray Supergirl in a much better show). I’m actually so glad I decided to try watching it.

Shows like Stargirl, Superman&Lois and early seasons of The Flash and Arrow prove that the CW CAN make amazing superhero shows. They just need to get their heads out of their butts. And less episodes per season.

Well not amazing, daredevil is amazing, but decent the cw shows whether they are ok, bad or terrible are carried 100% percent by actors cause action is always bad at best and the writing is the bare minimum at best, when a scene is good (rarely but it happens) it's because of the actors on screen, not the writing

@@Mirrorcomics24 I have no doubt that that bum Eric Wallace has put zero effort into the Flash, ever since he joined as the head writer and I believe show runner, the show has gone down so much in quality. The Arrow writers were trying but the show still dropped in quality, however it ended on a good note. Supergirl is ok, I don't know who the writers are and I haven't watched the show in a while but it's ending so I don't care.
I've watched maybe the first few minutes of Batwoman and nothing else. I don't care if that show is garbage or not because the trailers were a complete turnoff.
Legends works because it's weird, but it's still dropped in quality. In fact, one of my favorite seasons of the Arrowverse is legends season 2. I remember it was so damn good.
It's sad tbh remembering the good memories of these shows and how good they used to be. Most of them have turned into shit and if they aren't shit yet, they're getting there. Superman and Lois is a breath of fresh air. At this rate the only good CW shows are gonna be this and Stargirl.

Saying that the Flash looks like an early 2000s Power Rangers show is an insult to the PR seasons that came from that era. At least Rangers worked with what they had back then. The Flash has been on for 7 seasons and yet the budget still feels like it needs improvement.

I'm probably the *only* person that *does not* want Jonathan to have powers. I want him to still have that conection with Lois, a human between all this chaos and supernatural events. I want his power to be his compassion, his intelligence and his maturity. Jordan and Jonathan in a sense, mirror the relationship between Clark and Lois, where Clark/Jordan struggling to balance their power and responsabilities with their human life and Lois/Jonathan continously proving their value and importance to the story and the heroes. Both relatioships are loving, mature and balanced. I know people thinks Jon deserves powers, but I actually think that would be a disservice to his character and his arc.

I wasn't going to watch Superman & Lois, but I saw a review on episode 11 and went and watched that episode after hearing such great things. It instantly hooked me. I've watched every episode now and I am in agreement with you - this Lois and Clark is the best interpretation we've had in live-action so far. Tyler (especially, because to me he's been the biggest and best surprise with how he's just embodied Clark Kent and Superman so perfectly) and Bitsie are knocking it out of the park. I'm really excited for the rest of the season and season 2. Hopefully the show has a few years in it, and can maintain the high quality.

Stay Comic Accurate but also put a new twist on things. Also it shows that sometimes it’s okay to take ur time and lesson to fans , also Superman and Lois have accomplished understanding the character because the writers probably read the comics and understood what Superman is supposed to be , Who Clark Kent is . The Flash had sense of this but then lost it once Eric Wallace joined the boat . All we need is someone who cares about the character

I love this show and I am so happy Superman and Lois is doing everything I ever wanted especially as a huge fan of the superman rebirth series from peter j tomasi and Patrick Gleason this show is doing everything fantastic which I approve. :)
This is such a good show. Really surprised me. Tyler, Bitsie and the rest of the cast are really good. The writing so far on this show has been great and characters aren't one-note, they are being fully fleshed out. While S&L looks great visually it is the writing and the acting that's making it stand out, I watch a lot of shows and I can accept the visuals not being great due to cost etc but when the characters and writing are bad, I'm out. Thankfully, this show so far is keeping me hooked.
Some kids are just ready for life, it's rare but they are out there. They are self-possessed, confident, and smart; they give this old man hope for the future, maybe.
If this continues for a few years, I could see this show being the greatest “arrowverse” show. Maybe on par or surpassing Arrow

I love Arrow, but even I have to admit that Superman and Lois is superior all around.
Just like you said, this series in season 1 has not had any filler episode in it. It's all connected and condensed and all moving the plot forward. That's why i really love it. It engage us without ever having to dragged us with unnecessary things.
Also the cinematography and story are strong. The best yet in Arrowverse. It really shows us if CW showrunner and writer rrally do care for their series, it will ended up like this series. Heck, i even dsred to say that this series has surpassed and better that The Flash, Arrow, and any other Arrowverse show.
By far the best CW DC shows of all time,as long as it doesn't become a cash cow,but it is unavoidable.

Superman and Lois made me love Tyler Hoechlin, I hate how they downplayed his strength and status in Supergirl. Superman and Lois elevated him as Superman for me
Superman and Lois also saved his portrayal of Superman.
That's because Supergirl became a very woke show. It started off good on CBS. But when it got transferred to the CW, the longer it ran, the more woke it got.
So by the time Superman got there it was this whole female uber empowerment thing.

Henry cavill's physique and suit (I think it's the best suit coz the of the attention to detail)
Christopher reeve's charm and likeability
Tyler hoechlin's dialogue and love for his family and the people of smallville/metropolis
I'd add that Brandon Routh brought a certain level of warmth and kindness that I don't think even Reeve had.
I don't like Henry suit at all. To dark in my opinion I perfer a bright suit matching superman's kinda and charming persona.
I love that the show focuses on Supermans personal life instead of some earth destroying threat all the time. Tyler also portrays exactly what I want out of a superman
I think both can be balanced in a Superman movie.
for me this isn't just the best show on the arrowverse, but a heck of a show of its own, period.
I'm very glad that superman and Lois is a thing. Superman was underappreciated and mocked in favour of his female counterpart Supergirl in her TV show. Which I hated.

That opening montage on the first episode gave me feeling I have not felt since the first Christopher Reeves movie.
I despise how Zack Snyder made Superman dark and gritty. Don't get me wrong, MoS was a good modernization, but now it's led people to believe that this incredible character is overpowered and boring.
He lost me when he made Kal kill Zod, there is always another way. Zack Snyder was good for Watchmen, maybe Batman solo film could work , but certainly not Superman or other more lighter characters, basically anyone from Justice League. Still I did enjoy Snyder Cut and the way Snyder made Cyborg kinda makes me regret my first statements about Snyder not being able to properly make lighter characters.
You have to look at it from his point of view, which most of you nerds aren't. There are different versions of Supermen. He was the first to start down the different Superman path. WB and most critics didn't like his version. I for one loved it.

Most people always thought Superman was boring. And he grew irrelevant over the years. Zack Snyder made him modern and relevant again by giving him some actual depth. I just don't understand what some people have against some "grittiness".
This is how you make a realistic Superman without removing his hopeful attitude. And how he embodies hope is very realistic and I love that. I am going to miss this show.

This is the first arrowverse show I was interested in, I watched because I heard you say it was great. I watched the whole show in two days. Thanks for giving something to do while I had COVID.
Dude I totally agree with you! I did not think this show would be that good but it has really won me over! I do think this is the best live action Superman we’ve ever gotten! And I love Henry Cavill, Smallville was favorite show for many years, grew up with Reeves and think Routh is underrated but this show really is the best Superman we’ve ever gotten and I couldn’t be happier that it is!
The family man Superman from the Rebirth run is definitively my fav version of the character and this show captures that while also adding on a little more.

Tyler Hoechlin is a good representation of live action Superman, and shows proper direction of how the character should be portrayed in morden times. But despite that the best Superman will always be Christopher Reeves.

With so much over saturation of "what if superman or someone essentially superman was evil" depictions and stories, it's so refreshing to see a version of Superman exhibiting the best qualities to him. The dorky optimist who doesn't have all the answers but is trying to help everyone. And it's not just filating him saying he's a savior he's a symbol of hope above people. They show why he's viewed as a symbol of hope, and hammer in he doesn't wanna be viewed as above humanity. Despite not being human he is filled with humanity still and what makes him a part of the people.
The reason why the show is good is because this is HBO Produced including the writing and only released on the CW.

I agree with everything you said here. Christopher Reeve is always gonna be Superman for me, but this show absolutely reflects Clark. Makes me damn proud to be a fan.
Aside from the writing, CGI, story... It's the first time where I've actually cared about every single side character. Hell, I don't even care about the OG Team Flash anymore. Meanwhile Superman & Lois has characters like Kyle and Sam who are becoming some of my favourites. I hope to see this show hit a 5th season at least. Maybe even a 6th.

Every character in the show has a motivation that feels natural. Nothing feels contrived or forced to arrive at a plot point. It's entirely organic.

Just saw this and you pretty much matched my thoughts. That "power rangers " vibe of the CW shows statement described the other shows. This show is underrated. I was also on the fence with the casting at 1st but Tyler and the cast nailed the characters and the cw writers finally nailed it. Hoping they can have 5 + plus seasons but with the current dcu situation not sure if that will happen. This show is indeed refreshing.

Superman has always been CW's strongest suit and no matter how shitty the seasons might get they never fail superman which is always so welcoming.
Also supergirl never wrote superman as a sidekick. Litterally the first eps of the season 2 people were almost like kneeling to him as he flew into the DEO. In truth super girl was the actual side kick but superman since he is in kara's city wanted to give her the spotlight then take all of it for himself.
What was meant is that supergirl was supposed to be the one who had shadow over her but they made superman inside her shadow kinda, They decided to make Supergirl a female Superman, ya know showing supergirl to be superior than superman is where the problem lies.
Superman was portrayed as weaker than Kara. He said himself that she was stronger than him. Even though he's been on the planet for 20 more years than her. I can't go into detail as to how he was portrayed as the sidekick because it's been so long since I've watched the show, however I know it happened.

Also supergirl being an adult just like Clark and her spending her teens in krypton gives her an edge to superman soaking him on the radiation. In terms of the power levels both are pretty similar. Also supergirl being just as powerful isn’t anything new even in the comics just look back at how she rag dolled darkseid with superman

I've never managed to watch a full season of any cw show before (tried flash and supergirl). And I only got interested in this one because I've seen few comments somewhere that "it's suprizingly great" so I turned it on... And the first few minutes of the first episode completely got me hooked on.
And I binge watched it in 2 days.
And now I can't get over it. I keep watching the overview and so on.

That's probably debatable. Or definitely debatable. Christopher Reeve's and Richard Donner defined Superman. That movie defined pretty much the entire Superhero genre of films and tv and gave the definitive live action version of Superman. Gave Superman a soul.
Gave vulnerability to the invulnerable. The Man beneath the Steel.
Christopher Reeve's acting in the scene where he finds Lois dead is a prime example of how.
They started the superhero franchise but superman and Lois feels like every good part of superman (including reeves)combined
That version was good and was very influential in the superhero industry and just movie industry in general, however Superman in this show embodies every amazing aspect of Superman.
All respect to Christopher Reeve and it's fine if you prefer his Superman, but what I appreciate bout Tyler's version is that Clark Kent is the real person and Superman is the secret identity. I don't think it's fair to use a word such as "definitive" since there will always be someone with a different opinion. I think that's the best thing about the character -- there have been many interpretations, many actors bringing him to life, and we can all find one version of Superman that speaks to us. That's what makes him such an iconic hero, right? As of now, my personal opinion is that I'm very much enjoying Tyler's Superman more than I've enjoyed any other interpretation (but it doesn't take anything away from Reeve or Donner).
I find it extremely ironic how you claim reeve made superman vulnerable when he was the literal embodiment of a plot device. A prime example actually IS lois' death. What does he do afterward? He time travels and saves her. Was this established previously? No. Was it ever explained? No. The movie gives him whatever power he needs to solve the situation, whether it be time travel, amnesia kissing powers, telekinesis, "rebuilding vision", or cloning, etc. That's not vulnerability that's hax.

Jonathan is the heart of the show. He doesn't need powers. Jordan takes after Clark, while Jon takes after Lois.

I rank Hoechlin and Tulloch right up there with Reeve and Kidder. And if you check out comic artist Gary Frank's version of Lois Lane in Action Comics, she's a dead ringer for Elizabeth Tulloch. And this was several years before she got the part
That’s one thing I loved about this show is the character development. Some shows go way too long without making significant progress with the character
16 seconds. Within 16 seconds they sold me on Tyler Hoechlin during the first episode of Superman and Lois. From the moment he gently sets down the car, to when he says: "Thanks! My mom made it for me!". That was when I knew that this series understood Superman fundamentally, and is the clip I show to people to generate interest.
From that moment, I knew it was going to be the only CW show I watched on a regular basis. I dropped off of Arrow at season 3, Flash at season 2, never finished Supergirl past season 1 (episode 18 is the furthest I got), stopped Legends of Tomorrow after season 2, and I never started Batwoman OR Black Lightning. The CW from a writing level is more often than not objectively bad (take this from someone who ACTUALLY watches Riverdale), but Superman and Lois? It's in a whole other league. Personally I hope S&L stays mostly disconnected from the Arrowverse because I don't want to see the quality of these characters dip again.
EDIT: I'm glad it has an HBO Max budget and the benefit of having shorter seasons. I think 13-15 episodes is a perfect length to tell a complete story rather than the 22 episode standard the CW is set on.

People want good content and will reward quality with their loyalty as a consumer. Superman has always been my favorite superhero but he is the OG which deserves respect but when portrayed in a compelling way, audiences respond to the character’s morals, values, and reverence for human life in much the same way as Captain America. Both are heroes but not because of their powers. In fact, it’s their goodness that makes them continue to be relevant and in fact, the success of this show and failure of others prove audiences don’t want a Superman darkened or gritty, he simply has to be the beacon of hope for his character to work. Also, his character always works best when the adaptation realizes that Lois is as important as Clark/ Superman and how she is not simply the love interest. While we’re on the subject, this show has such a clear and comprehensive understanding of the characters that Lana Lang has finally been done well. Smallville was an exercise in pointless agony considering they spent eight years on a relationship everyone knew would end but this show also hasn’t relegated her to a thing of the past. I adore this show.
A lot of the people I've seen hate on this say it doesn't have enough action and at that point I immediately know they're a movie fan and not a comic fan. Superman doesn't fight all the time, he's a character and has complicated relationships and people who only watch the movies don't understand that

It was the peak? It created the peak for modern superhero shows not just for DC, not just Marvel, but non DC and Marvel superhero TV shows like The Boys and Invincible.
The Crossover Lois was cringe AF with the Feminsts BS the Supergirl writers made her into, Glad SM&L writers chose the different road for her.

Im just cherishing it as long as it's good, one thing I did wrong was being over-judgy for flash S1 and S2 and now looking back at it I should've just enjoyed it while it was good before it went downhill, I'm doing the same here.
I think Superman could have been a skinny dwarf and still be Superman.... It's not like his muscles need to grow.

another thing i loved was that Lois loves clark for clark. In the OG superman movies(which i love to death) one of my only complaints is that Lois never falls in love with clark but instead with superman. she only wants to be with “clark” when she finds out that this lovable and dorky guy is actually superman. But in this lois is directly asked about how she feels about superman(before she learns who he really is) and says that she likes clark kent instead which i just love! that is 100% the relationship that they both have in the comics and in my opinion is the relationship that they both should have
People won’t write it off, because it’s a DC Property.
I hope CW adopts this style to their other shows. It’s so much better to have 10 well written, movie quality episodes per season than 30 episodes a season of low quality drivel.

Tyler is not only a fantastic Superman but he plays one of the best Clark Kents as well.
Cavill does a great Superman but I always thought his Clark Kent was off the mark and even Christopher Reeve's Kent was played up too much as a bumbling clown.
Hoechlin'S portrayal of Clark is so balanced and just as strong in his own way as his Superman persona
In Reeves' defense, he played the clown so that no one would suspect he was Superman
The part where you say the CW shows always looked like low budget TV is pretty spot on.
On top of the cinematography the editing and direction is usually bad.
This stuff can be overlooked if you got a strong enough narrative. A narrative that consists of likeable characters that you can get behind.
Something that Flash has even with the low budget TV and lifeless direction it can have.
Supergirl as well people could argue seeing as how the show does seem to have a devoted following despite the production quality
Finally! A S&L video that doesn't take potshots at DCEU Superman! I like both Supermen and I don't think either them needs to be brought down even a single peg just to prop up or propel the other forward.
