    I keep my San Pedros in the sun all day and they look ok. Nice and very green. I live in Malta which is zone hardiness 11a. I think they get used to very hot conditions and adapt well. But i give them plent water during summer. Also they unlike some other plants i have, rarely get attacked by insects and other pests(which we have in great abundance) maybe because of their high alkaloid contents

    full sun exposure is paradise for cactus!!! PLEASE DON'T cover your cacti, the direct sunlight in case of san pedro will turn his color from vibrant (in winter) to faded (in summer) is a natural cicle, but if they turns yellow it's just a matter of nutrients
    , i can assure you from mine growing with direct sunlight exposure (12 hours x day during the summer) on a rooftop in south italy

      It's a little routine, not that bad, plus I like to spend time with the plants. This said, at the moment, I am covering the plants more than I used to due to them being too yellowish for my taste. When they return to a greener/ blueish color, I'll probably ease the shading ;)

    Hi Jerry greetings from Florida and thank you for the wonderful videos. I have just been blessed with 3 Peruvian torch cuttings.. two tops of about 70cm each and a middle cut of 50cm each. Do you recommend that i cut the bigger ones in half or is it best to keep them long and plant them as is? Thanks for your time and energy regarding my questions.

    • @sanpedromastery6262
      @sanpedromastery6262  4 роки тому

      Definitely keep them as long as possible, they will grow better. The smaller you cut them, the smaller the pups will be and the slower they will grow :)

    • @sanpedromastery6262
      @sanpedromastery6262  4 роки тому

      I can't remember the percentage of shading, possibly 90% for the better quality shade cloth, and 70% for the cheaper one. But I don't believe that these advertised numbers are correct. Probably closer to 50% and 30%. I recommend going to a DIY store and taking a look at the fabric in person. It's a trial and error process.

    Thanks Jerry for your video.
    My question is , how this plant tolerates so much sun in the nature ( middle or South America ) but doesn't in Europe?
    This is exactly how some people say , don't water your cactus in the winter , even it rains in the winter in the nature.
    What is that information that we miss?

    • @sanpedromastery6262

      Over there they tend to grow on hills or mountains and only have half a day of sun. Mine gets a full day of sun. I have recently realized that this is too much. Now I have to cover them a lot until they recover a greener/ blueish color. Afterwards, I will cover them a bit less.

    Hello, first of all, great videos, really helpful and well produced. Second I hope to ask you a question about repotting. I have a San Pedro that I am about to move to a bigger pot really soon. The bottom part (the length of the cutting when I got it) is not so nice looking and is actually a little thinner than the new growth and the ribs on that part are not swelling up like the rest when I water. And it has actually formed a "preroot" on that part as well. Could I plant the cactus deeper to cover that part and hope to form new roots or would it be too big of a risk of rot?
    Best regards

    • @sanpedromastery6262
      @sanpedromastery6262  4 роки тому

      Difficult to say without a photo, that depends on the height of the plant, and how thin the lower part is compared to the top part. If you want, you can email me a photo and I will let you know what I think. If it was mine, I would probably leave it as is. If you bury it some more, the deeper it is, the more chances it has of rotting.

      @@sanpedromastery6262 thank you for your reply. I planted it deeper about 2weeks ago, have been keeping the soil dry and hope it will root and not rot. So fingers crossed 🤞

      @@3ok403 I agree seems like humidity would help them as long as the soil is dry and or sandy. I use worm casting mixed with gypsum as "soil". mine live through 115° summers. sometimes I mist the plant with hydroponic fertilizers so they bloom since I don't consume my plants I just collect cactus because I live in the desert and I like flowers. Barrel cactus and prickly pear cactus grow like weeds and you can buy nopales cactus at the grocery store for food.
