    This is a BRILLIANT video Ana and very informative :-D we have had a wonderful few weeks of very sunny weather, and although our temperatures are cool compared to Las Vegas the direct sunshine can still burn our plants in Ireland we have in the yard as our yard is very sheltered and gets very hot on the sunny days, our polytunnel reached 98F on Thursday, even though it was 75F outside, all your plants are looking amazing and the shade cloths are fantastic to protect them, you have a fantastic collection, WOW at the 9% humidity, thanks so much Ana for sharing, and sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a sunny Saturday ahead XXXX

      When I watch your videos and I see your humidity levels at 80%, I am wishing I can get at least half of your humidity over here. Hahaha. My biggest challenge here is the hot and dry air which turns every plant into prunes. 🥵 But I’d take this weather anytime over snow. 😉 Thanks Lyn and I wish you a sunny and warm months ahead. CHEERS! 😃🌵☕️

    Hi Ana! I wanted to watch your video earlier when I woke up at 6.30am but I had to do my chores first so only had the time now. So much shade protection!!! I'm sure your husband had a big hand in putting them all up 👍👍😊😊. I too am afraid if my cacti have burns or any other markings because it'll be there forever. I love all your cacti arrangements on the racks, pots and even your desert garden. Everything looks perfect 👍👏 and you've housed them so well. They're all living in a 5 star hotel with a good director in charge. 😍😍😍☺️☺️

      Molly Cher 5 star hotel?! Hahaha. Not quite yet. Yes, my husband put up all the shade cloths. He even dug and cemented a 10-foot pole in the middle of our yard to anchor the shade sails. He did a fantastic job. The heat here is so intense. Even if you are under a shade, the air that is blowing is hot like in an oven. Shade cloths are definitely a must or I will end up with toasted cacti. 😁

      Oh welcome to the hot desert! Other desert areas are dry but not hot. Here it’s the real deal. Lol! This year is one of the worst heat I’ve experienced so far. Good thing we got good rain late winter. It gave the cacti an early head start to grow and flower before the extreme heat started. Hang in there! 😥

    Wow,Anna you always “hit the spot”with us newbies.Was wondering as this is my first year,how to go around this scorching heatwave we had in Cali in the last 4 days.With the myth that cactus are desert plants,the cactus we get are born in the greenhouse,so they are different from those wild cactus that thrives in very hot weather.Thank you for mentioning about flowering ones,take it out from hot sun,very informative.Again,you are an awesome blogger and always looking forward for your new videos..Love from Cali😘

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you. Yes, this heat is sometimes too much for the cactus. In the wild, many of them grow partially shaded by grass or rocks. They can go long without water but the scorching sun can burn them.

      I can only imagine how hot it can get there! The humidity there is so low. Not very good for the human skin. Nakakatanda ang dryness, sis. 😱😂 thank goodness for shade cloth. 😂 i am worried about the epiphytic cacti though. I agree with you, they really have to be brought in to protect them. I water my flowering/pupping cacti more frequently because the plants use so much moisture when they are exerting effort. Loved the intermission! Lovely flowers, as always. Thanks for sharing, sis. ❤️🌵🌸🌼🌺🥰❤️

    • @edithcoliagrandis
      @edithcoliagrandis 4 роки тому +3

      Cactus Caffeine yes. You can supplement the humidity by placing them on a tray with water and pebbles but make sure that the roots are not sitting directly in water. When the water evaporates, that will add a bit of moisture in the air or you can use a humidifier to give these plants a better chance of surviving the summer. 🥰

  • @snoywntr2
    @snoywntr2 4 роки тому +1

    I’m considering what shade cloth to get. My temps aren’t as high as yours. Zone 7. I was considering 40% but I’m also thinking I can get away with 65%. And that would be more comfortable for me - this will be on the pergola of my back deck where I keep most of my succulents. If I go with the 65 will that be too much for my plants? They seem mostly happy in full sun except for some sunburn in the spring. But I’m hoping to make my deck a little more comfortable for me too. Now that I have a pergola! Also how much does color matter?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 роки тому +1

      Honestly, for me the color is only for aesthetics. But the sun protection that they give is the same as what is indicated on its label. Sounds like even just 50% shade will work for your plants especially if they only get morning sun. 🙂

    I see how you use different levels of shade cloth to protect your cactus. I use a covered patio with two layers of 6 mil plastic, tree covered area and areas of full sunlight in different parts of my backyard. I live in Los Angeles near the ocean and the temperature is rarely over 85F and humidity is normally around 40 to 50 percent. There are many cactus that need more heat and colder temperatures and some will survive but, most will not. I grow my wife's orchids next to succulents and cactus and they are an odd combination.
