I made this without the chocolate. I just covered the whole cake with the rest of the whipped cream and strawberry Preserve mix !!! And it was tasty as hell !! Thanks !
The reason behind the ganache being lumpy is due to the fact that you're not supposed to have the top part of the 'double boiler'or in this instance, the top pot, touching the water. It causes the chocolate to seize, as moisture gets into the chocolate due to condensation, which creates the lumps you see in this one.
I use a piece of cotton sewing thread to cut a cake into layers, put the thread around the cake where you want to slice, cross the ends of the thread together and pull the thread through the cake. then do it again at the next level. works GREAT! every time. By the way I love your videos.
Adding some vanilla pudding would make that cake taste even better. :) Mmm. I will be buying the ingredients for this tomorrow to make. Looks fantastic.
You had me til you poured all that chocolate over the top. It went from looking elegant like something you would get at a nice restaurant to over indulgent. If I would have made this I would have just done a chocolate drizzle over the top with some strawberries to garnish it with maybe a light dusting of powdered sugar
for the double boiler, you can use a glass bowl on top/inside of the pot. just make sure when the bowl is in the pot that the bowl doesn't touch the bottom of the pot
havent mentioned it until now but seen alot of your movies you always wear a ring even tho you say to wash hands etc when a ring like that is the perfect spot for germs to hide(might be your marriage ring but still lots of germs can hide under that ring) love your shows
Looks very delicious...i have 2 questions for you plz? 1)how long will this last in fridge before going bad? 2)what is the reason you have to refrigerate it before eating? Thank you
adding a bit of butter to the melted chocolate while its still in the pot in the water, will give it a creamier taste and texture and give it a lot more shine.
hi jack if you were to enter come dine with me (the tv show). which 3 of your recipes would you choose? keep in mind you need appetizer , main course and desert. thanks.
That cake does look good, but as a suggestion (just a suggestion) you could put more of the jam into the whipped cream and use that as the frosting and put strawberry slices on it for garnishing. You could even, as a variation, use blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries. I like that shortcake desert. Thanks. By the way, I love your Lazy Man Recipes.
hei..i love your recipe..but i have a bigg problem..where i live you don't find whipped topping or whipped cream in stores..so i was wondering if you can help me with that..do you know with what i could replace it?because i really what to try this..thanks
This actually looked really good til you dumped all that seized up chocolate on it. Next time, if you must add chocolate, don't bother with the double boiling. Just heat the cream, then pour it over the chocolate... wait about 2 mins and it will easily have melted the chocolate and stirred in for a super smooth chocolate coating.
@porksnott it really wasn't. It was very thin layer on top. That's all that gets served. Next time I might drizzle on each piece of cake. That would be way cooler.
hey jack i want to buy the best sauce you ever tasted but i want the hot version but i want it separate can i buy separate or do have to buy the 3 jars
My grandpa used to make a cake just like that :) We got it as dessert every sunday after the big family meal. I have to try it too :) Miss you grandpa.
that looks so good but rather than all that choc id put a thin layer over the top n then frost the rest of the cake with the coolwhip and strawberry mixture
That press and seal product looks good , i don't think there is anything on the market like that in the uk. Obviously cling film but that's different ... Nice cake, needs a cup of tea to go with it :D
That you did when you were melting the chocolate is called Bain-Marie, and it is use when you want to cook with more delicacy. If you were to put the pot right on the heat, the chocolate would burn easier and stick to the pot.
@porksnott I have to say that the extra chocolate on the tray was perfect for dipping strawberries into. It really was light tasting even though it looks rich in flavor.
@DrakoNemesis it was actually on the may the 4th. But jack had the episode that week already filmed. And the next week was the knife skills episode. Because he wanted to show the pictures, he had to wait till this week.
Finally something edible
I’d make but think I’d cover w the cool whip instead. Chocolate looks like a big mess
Because he didn’t make the cake💀
It looks good. You just want to spread your hate💔👎🏾🪞
I made this without the chocolate. I just covered the whole cake with the rest of the whipped cream and strawberry Preserve mix !!! And it was tasty as hell !! Thanks !
and add 4 heaping tablespoons of mayo
Surprised that theres no mayo.
I was waiting for someone to bring up mayo 😂😂
Tbh I don’t think 4 heaping tablespoons of mayo is enough play it safe go with 8 heaping tablespoons
This is the first time I’ve seen you make something edible

Hey Jack, if you turn the cake on its side, you might be able to see the layers a little better. Just a suggestion.
I use a piece of cotton sewing thread to cut a cake into layers, put the thread around the cake where you want to slice, cross the ends of the thread together and pull the thread through the cake. then do it again at the next level. works GREAT! every time. By the way I love your videos.
piece of fishing line or regular dental floss works too. :)
that’s a great idea
That is brilliant, thanks 😊
It’s so annoying when people feel the need to pump up their stuff on someone else’s video. Make your own video. Good idea! Thanks so much.
Very good Channel! Enjoying the recipe very much, Looking forward to making this looks delicious
The ganache was overkill! Looked pretty good before that.
i know right! I would whip the heavy cream and top the cake with it instead!
Adding some vanilla pudding would make that cake taste even better. :) Mmm. I will be buying the ingredients for this tomorrow to make. Looks fantastic.

I’ve seen recipes using pound cake and this is the best one I’ve seen. Thanks
@TelepathicT I appreciate it. You are right. I was being lazy and ti works. I really appreciate your input and we are totally good.
@adtv2 great idea. Yes there are white chocolate chips.
It looks edible..... to edible
@itzMehPreet yes. You can do anything to top it or just serve dry with ice cream
I’ve seen the recipes using pound cake all cut up with a bunch of stuff in there, but this is perfect!!!
@ace2472 yes. In fact, the original recipe was raspberry cream cake.
for the double boiler, you can use a glass bowl on top/inside of the pot. just make sure when the bowl is in the pot that the bowl doesn't touch the bottom of the pot
Thank you for the easy recipes Jack I really do appreciate the work and time you put into your show.
Wow when you poured the chocolate on top it looked kinda scary.
havent mentioned it until now but seen alot of your movies
you always wear a ring even tho you say to wash hands etc when a ring like that is the perfect spot for germs to hide(might be your marriage ring but still lots of germs can hide under that ring)
love your shows
I just found you and this post is 12 years old! I'm lousy with desserts but I think I can manage this one! It looks wonderful!
@dharmalost16 any whip cream will do.
Looks very delicious...i have 2 questions for you plz?
1)how long will this last in fridge before going bad?
2)what is the reason you have to refrigerate it before eating?
Thank you

hi jack
if you were to enter come dine with me (the tv show).
which 3 of your recipes would you choose?
keep in mind you need appetizer , main course and desert.
thanks.
@dacohov you are so kind. Glad you enjoy the show
"Come in close" ~Cooking With Jack
if you coat the cake over a wire rack and put a parchment paper underneath you can coat it without the mess and even scrap up the excess
@MytMowse I bet your right. That would be awesome.
Hey jack,,,,if u used raspberries would you have used raspberry jam ? What i mean is do u match the berries with the jam
That cake does look good, but as a suggestion (just a suggestion) you could put more of the jam into the whipped cream and use that as the frosting and put strawberry slices on it for garnishing. Why do so many people hate on this guy? He has a lot of talent and he just wants to express it :P I think Jack is the best!
I think you could do this with cherries (even cherry pie filling) for a Black Forest effect.
Needs more chocolate.
Jack Davis hahaha

This Recipe looks like a must try 2-thumbs up for me
Love the strawberry preserves tip tyyyyyyyy❤
@obsidianwing great tip. I will try that next time.
It look's so good...and its a good idea for a simple birthday cake
@tamalaursa I never heard that. It worked perfect for me.
That looks really good, that's a great thing to make in the summer. No over required, lol
Nice shortcut instead of strawberry short cake ....it’s all good !
@Khyberbanzil I hear you.
Hi jack I was wondering if I could get your taryaki sauce for beef jerky
"frigerator" UGH
@porksnott it really wasn't. It was very thin layer on top. That's all that gets served. Next time I might drizzle on each piece of cake. That would be way cooler.
hey jack i want to buy the best sauce you ever tasted but i want the hot version but i want it separate can i buy separate or do have to buy the 3 jars
@CrazyAmberRun most of it was on the plate for dipping strawberries in.
I don't know why. But when I type in my address(which is in Toronto, canada), it seems that I can't really buy ur sauces. Is there a problem or sth?
Chocolate syrup in cool whip very tasty 😋 if you didn’t want all chocolate 🍫 loved the video
looks great Jack ! ty
When you use a double boiler I thought that you weren't supposed to let the bowl/pan touch the water?
I thoght you were gonna say "It needs a little garlic at the end" I was like D:
STOP HATING GUYS!! He's actually helpful unlike you complainers
samar zayed PREACH
You're not supposed to have the top section of the double boiler touch the water but it looks like it's alright if you use a pot that's insulated.
@PUMBAZZ I know. I should have let it cook about 15 minutes.
I hate chocolate on cake (I dont know why >:O) can I just use the whip cream to cover the outside?
@TelepathicT that is why I said IF YOU DON'T HAVE A DOUBLE BOILER, you can do this instead.
@jaywilton18 fixed it. Thanks.
also can i use the teriyaki sauce as a marinate
my eyes got so wide when you poured the chocolate over it, i wasn't at all expecting that. O_O
What kind of knife do you use
@pandamuffin2121 stater bros. in Cypress, CA right when you walk in.
My grandpa used to make a cake just like that :)
We got it as dessert every sunday after the big family meal.
I have to try it too :)
Miss you grandpa.
Ephieites sorry for your loss i hope you carried on the tradition
Is he resting in peace?
what program do you use for your videos?
@XGamerz808 final cut pro
that looks so good but rather than all that choc id put a thin layer over the top n then frost the rest of the cake with the coolwhip and strawberry mixture
And before I leave I'm just gonna get strawberries and cream and call it a day
✌
Hahah
That press and seal product looks good , i don't think there is anything on the market like that in the uk. Obviously cling film but that's different ...
Nice cake, needs a cup of tea to go with it :D

@adtv2 with white choclate chips you probably need more cream. Because the white choclate is way thicker when melted than the brown one.
@teebird11 that's a cool idea. I might do that.
for the chocolate topping you could just get a can of chocolate frosting and microwave it for a few sec's on high then set it in the frige to chill
@ALXD1974 great suggestion.
1 question: Why didn't you tell us to put it on the plate we are going to serve it on before we did the cake?
he didn't realize the mistake it was
Did your chocolate seize up?
Isn't there a rule that the pan should touch the water when you're melting chocolate? I always follow that rule.
what is total preserves
Great vid!!!
If the jam is too thick to spread, heat it a bit.
@Mistabeen6 I used Toll House and I noticed that the chocolate icing didn't seem all that sweet, it's nice.
I so much LOVE youR videos, keep it up man!
@iVolkswagen I gave the cake to my friend Joe after filming.
I always get sooo hungry from watching your videos.. :p
What Generation iPad Do You Have ?
@porksnott I have to say that the extra chocolate on the tray was perfect for dipping strawberries into. It really was light tasting even though it looks rich in flavor.
The lazy man vids are my all time favorites!
Looks so good!
pink fingernail polish?
Thanks Jack now my M&M's going to make this cream cake for Thanksgiving tomorrow
Love this channel :)
@da3daluz Thank you. I will remember that one.
I have made this with seedless raspberry preserve and ricotta cheese .Then dust the top with 10x.
Make sure you wash your hands and dont have a big ring on your finger.
Is there added sugar in the whipped cream? Why didn't you just quickly whip something yourself? :)
@DrakoNemesis it was actually on the may the 4th. But jack had the episode that week already filmed. And the next week was the knife skills episode. Because he wanted to show the pictures, he had to wait till this week.
Keep up the videos man!! They're great!
