I started photography almost 10 years ago. D3300, D7500, Z50, Zfc, D500, Z5, Z6. I am keeping the D500 and Zfc forever. The Nikon crop 21mp sensor is incredible. Near full frame performance at high ISO/low light, amazing colors and DR, but you have the reach of crop sensor and low files sizes with usable resolution for modest crops.
This is what's so funny about "mirrorless" debate. Composition is 10000x more important. If you can't take good photo with a D850 it's not the camera's fault
I like your video very much. I got a D500 after taking pictures for a while with the D780, a FX camera. Now the D500 is my favorite camera together with the 200-500 f5.6. and I get good results shooting birds in flight (birds of prey). Thank you for your kindness. Greetings from Germany, jo.gerl
Epic camera and still rocks in 2021 Great files Blazing fast AF Amazing ergonomics and build quality On top of all that the bottomless buffer Just bought mine four months ago and no regrets
Get a D850 and with the change of a menu setting you can essentially have a D500. But when you want an excellent landscape camera, you have that too. If you ONLY shoot wildlife, sure the D500 can do that for less. But for the best overall camera that can shoot both, the D850 handles everything extremely well.
The D850 is superb but it cannot match the frame speed or most importantly the buffer rate of the D500, in most cases outside of extreme sports I agree with you the D850 is superior.
mate a Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 lens to the D500 and it's magic for sports photography. shot football matches for many years with mine and I get constant compliments for my action shots
Really enjoyed your video. I presently shoot with a D500 and find it a fantastic camera. I am planning to purchase a Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6. As an amateur photographer I believe this will suit my needs for the price I can afford. I totally agree that the controls are very intuitive if you have owned previous Nikon bodies. Nikon occasionally moves the odd button around to improve its product but the overall layout is very consistent. That really helps me to concentrate on the subject I am photographing instead of my controls. I look forward to your future videos.
I love this cam. I know its mirrorless version is in the making. NOt sure if I can part with it. So many memories for me. So many hiking and nature trips with it. It feels so good in my hands.
I am still using D500 and D850 haven't buy mirrorless yet, now I am thinking to jump for Z9 but still I will keep my both dslr they are very trustworthy for wildlife and nature.
About the reason for the sharpness produced by the D500, you should have highlighted the absence of the anti-aliasing filter. The AA filter while reducing moire also reduces sharpness. Nikon did a wonderful thing by not adding the AA filter to this camera.
The camera is so good that I purchased a brand new one as a backup. The best autofocus system ever built by Nikon. BIF? there's nothing better out there. I do have the Z9 and the Z800 PF. The D500 locks into autofocus in a snap of a second and does not let go for the rest of the tracking, even when you have a busy background behind the BIF. The Z9 is not as good and still lacks behind the D500 on that matter. I wish Nikon launches the D7 with autofocus sensors spread all over the viewfinder. theMulti-CAM 20K 153-point AF system fits the width of the D500 frame. That is the difference to the D5 (has the same autofocus module in it) which I purchased brand new and sent back. You have to put your BIF on the center all the time and when you try to recompose like I do on the D500 the D5 loses focus. There's not enough sensors spread to do that. I have heard that the Multi-CAM 37K autofocus system on the D6 it's even better. However, Nikon insists on having the sensors in the center of the frame. No, it did not spread 1.6X to the side like they say. Tell me about "funny" marketing from Nikon... Remember when they have made a big splash about the Z6 and the Z7. LOL what a failure at the time! The sensor distribution on the D6 has the same "scale" compared to the D5. It's not enough. Had they spread more sensors into the frame like the D500. I would've moved to the D6 in a heartbeat. Hopefully they will realize that the Multi-CAM autofocus system is superior to reading pixels on a mirrorless sensor and will not kill the DSLR pro line. They have registered the "Names" D7, D8 and D9 when they launched the D6. Let's see what happens. Meanwhile, let's have fun!
I love, love my D500 for birds & wildlife. What is Nikon’s mirrorless equivalent? I know crop sensor cameras are priced/aimed at beginners but I treasure the extra reach…

Say you are using the D500 for all shooting scenarios including landscape, portraits, close ups as well as action, wildlife etc, what range of lenses would anyone recommend to accompany the camera to cover all bases?
I use a Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 for football matches, swim meets, and basketball. For portraits and general purpose photography, the Sigma 17-50mm F/2.8 is outstanding value that will let you reach out a little more (think school events, music, etc). Most would recommend a prime lens like a Nikkor 50mm F/1.8 for more artsy stuff..
D500's legacy... so good that Nikon discontinued it because it posed too much of a threat to their new mirrorless line-up. D500 is an epic camera and a photographic legend.

I use the similar kit. Trust me you will neither need a monopod nor a tripod with this combo. Even if you have to wait for a bird to take off after its meal. I gave away my tripod with a gimbal after I bought this lens. I was using a 500 F4 before this that used to weight 3.8Kilos; lens only. With the PF lens shooting birds in flight is a breeze. it just weights 1.4 kilos. ... Hope that helps. Cheers.
@@imtiazindia I have used this for sports. You would have to be quick. that introduces shakes if you switch from one position to the next. Especially if you're "running and gunning". Like i said depends on the situation you're using that for.
