    Niely done. I used to have the D500 and was the best crop DSLR I owned. I am surprised how it held up against the Z9. Now video is where the Z9 trounces the D500, no contest, but then again, so is the price difference.
    I think Nikon went with the lower resolution on the Z9 LCD screen to be able to output the 8K video without having it choke on all them pixels.

    Looking at the price difference, the Z8 doesn't offer much of an advantage over the D500 and any differences can easily be fixed in post. No wonder used D500's and D850's are so popular. You can buy either with a 150-600mm Sigma or Tamron lens for less than the price of a Z9 body and still have enough change for another lens or a decent tripod and gimbal head.

    d500 actually has a software limit. if you were to press the shutter button once again, it would start yet another series of 200 photos. that's not a limitation of buffer, more like safety mechanism, in case of shutter button being pressed by accident in the bag

    • @theCameraVille

      Actually if you look at the audio of the D500 , 5:51 , you will see that the D500 is slowing down and chugs therefore it has its own limitation. If it was just a shutter software limit, there should be no chugging. Proof is in the pudding.

This is a setting to prevent you from accidently having the shutter stuck down like in your camera bag and have the shutter go off continuously and kill the shutter. Granted, in your test the buffer was starting to fill up anyway, but if you let off the shutter button and go back on again it would probably have been able to keep going. But the comparison in crop mode on the Z9 I don't know if it makes much sense, who would use the Z9 in crop mode? I have 4 D500 bodies. I can shoot all 200 images to my XQD or CF cards without the lag toward the end of the 200 that you experienced, where there started to be a slow-down between images. Mine go all the way to 200 in 20 seconds without any change in the speed or sound. It may be because I shoot RAW, not JPG, but on top of that, I rarely shoot 200 images at a time anyhow, so this really doesn't matter in real life. The reason for the buffer was because there were folks who found that the power switch would sometimes get switched on in transit and the shutter button get pressed, only to fill the card and/or kill the battery. Did that lesson transfer to the Z9? Apparently not.
    The monitor on the D500 having 2359K dots vs the Z9 having "only" 2100K dots is such a small difference that it is trivial and nothing for anyone to be concerned about. And to say that Nikon would "cheap that out" just shows how little you know about the role the monitor actually plays in determining whether an image is sharp or not. Your statement infers that those extra dots make a huge difference, when all it really does is up the bragging rights for those who care about being arrogant.
    "D500 shooters are amateurs" is a laughable statement on your part. That is simply a statement that attempts to shame people into spending money to keep up with a trend that they may not be able to afford, or more likely have the intelligence to choose not to follow.
    I came here because of owning the venerable D500 and thought I might actually learn something, but that is sadly not the case. Maybe you should learn how to actually operate the cameras you're testing before publishing videos about them.

    • @theCameraVille
      @theCameraVille  8 місяців тому

      That is depending on your shutter setting. My test is a stress test. The faster the shutter, the more data transfer which will equal the lag. When you tell me you dont see that, that means your using a slower shutter so your card is able to recover. . Basically you are shooting like its 2015. Also the dynamic range isn't as good on the D500. So on top of the stress test, the Z9 carries more data information than the D500.
      D500 is discontinued . Soon just like the other discontinue bodies, they wont be repairable. You might end up paying a higher price tag than usual at a camera shop just for a repair. In a nut shell, you have 4 dslr that has an end date. No one is using a D500 for professional photography. Hobbyist only.
      Cheers~

    • @hotflashfoto
      @hotflashfoto 8 місяців тому +2

      Shutter speed has nothing to do with the amount of data being transferred with each image. When the mode is set to "CL", the rate is 10 FPM, so whether the shutter speed is1 /8000 or 1/30, the amount of data is exactly the same because the size of the file is exactly the same. If you had actually read my comment, I said that it records 200 images in 20 seconds, and if you do the math, that is 10 FPM, so I'm not using a slower shutter speed in some lame attempt to "allow the card to recover." Or maybe math isn't your strong suit?
      Claiming that I'm shooting like it's 2015 is another lame attempt at shaming, also known as a put-down. This is 2023, and I shoot like it's today, not 8 years ago. What was your point in making that statement? Trolling me? Try again.
      The dynamic range is just fine on the D500. If it wasn't, then it would never have sold as well as it did, nor be as favored as it is. With only a slight tweak in Lightroom, I can make it look like anything I want. And I'm not talking LR from 2015.
      The first fact you've actually stated is that the D500 is discontinued. Well, I hope the Z9 hasn't been discontinued yet - it just came out! The D500 had a production run of over 6 years. Your contention that it won't be repairable is a forecast that you can't back with any facts. Good cameras are worth the time and money spent to keep them in good repair. Nobody in their right mind uses things beyond their useful lives. I take care of my equipment. Besides, why do you think I own 4? It's to ensure that I have a working version of this marvelous body for years to come! For what I've spent on these 4 bodies, I've still spent less than the purchase price of just one Z9.
      To claim that "no one is using the D500 for professional photography. Hobbyist only." is another statement you've made with no facts to back it up. You are all just fluff and no substance. Anyone who tries to make a point will bring facts to the table, not baseless arguments. Or was that another put-down attempt? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.
      As I said the first time, I had hoped to learn something about the D500, but instead I learned that not all YT videos actually have something of value to offer.@@theCameraVille

    💥 I can’t believe the image quality that you got out of both of those bodies when you pushed the exposures being so underexposed initially. The D500 is a little better than my D7200 but I could never get any kind of results like that seeing the detail that you show here. My shadows would have been a muddy disaster.

      Просто на D7200 вы используете совсем не тот объектив, которым снимает автор видео. Но даже свой объектив нужно настраивать н камере, вводя поправку. А если это Tamron или Sigma, то надо отъюстировать объектив на докстанции, введя нужные поправки. Тогдв D7200 будет снимать отлично. У него лучшая матрица, чем у D500.

    Feeling much better about D500 as it can now kick Z9 out in real world as two D500 bodies with amazing Lenses together can cost half the price that Z9 and Z lenses will cost. So, decision confirmed on D500 then. In fact Z8 is way better in comparison to that big chunky Z9 which is a nightmare to carry.

      @@theCameraVille agreed. However, with good use it will take another 5 years before I may need to invest any more. By that time a much better offering may come in Mirrorless that can convince me to move ahead of D500 and D850 in terms of cost-benefit analysis. So far, Z8 is really impressive in Nikon's mirrorless line-up except it's terrible battery-life.
