    Who went/is still at lightbox expo??! I had a great time catching up with art bros and meeting tons of new peeps! More importantly though, your foreshortening needs help, fix it now

    Aesthetic balance/silhouette reminds me of what you learn in theater/drama. Always open up and turn your body to the audience so that they can see you and understand what you're doing, even though realistically that's not how we would normally interact with each other face-to-face. Understanding it that way has helped me out a bit and made me less ridged with my poses. Especially when I'm posing things that are foreshortened.

    I recently finished a fanart of my fav char. I drew him from above and couldn't figure out how to draw it correctly. I used a lot of references and ended up using a 3d model. Imo it looks good and i'm really proud of how he turned out. The background could have been better, since the angle makes everything a bit akward. But i'll leave it that way, i want to redraw a bunch of my art later when i get better. I'll try using the box thing you mentioned. Thank you very much for all these helpfull tips and tricks :)

    Hey Marc!
    Question on simple volumes here for anatomy. At about 5:20 in this video, I see you using a box for both the hips and the waist+chest combined. That's a different technique than what you have in your Drawing Simple Anatomy video where you recommend using a larger egg shape for the torso and a short cylinder for the waist. What would be the purposes between those two different styles?
    Thank you for your videos! I'm on day 12 of practicing level 1 + watching one of your videos. My skills in drawing characters have never been this good despite a ton of art classes years ago. The skillset got a decade of rust on it before I found your stuff, and now I feel like my identity as an artist is on its way back! THANK YOU!

    Excellent stuff, Marc. Honestly you could probably make a three hour video just about foreshortening in general.
    Perspective and foreshortening is something I always struggled with over the years, and every little bit of knowledge about it helps.
    Great work as always, but just one thing... I as your loyal subscriber demand even wackier intro videos. ;)

  • @notproductiveproductions3504

    Bout time I find a video on this

  • @Vivid_pixcel
    @Vivid_pixcel Рік тому

    That bolder lines in the front thing makes me wonder, is it almost like atmospheric perspective affecting the lines like it does backgrounds? When you have a foreshortened character, the foreshortened part is brought foreword into the foreground....Say that five times fast. And the arm in witch example is even started to back into the background.
    Also, that time on finding the middle of an object in perspective is liquid gold. Thanks mate.

  • @howtofight.8650
    @howtofight.8650 Рік тому

    I found a quick way to get your feet off the ground with foreshortening.
    Take a full length arm, cut four lines into it. One in the middle of the Shoulder Arm, One in the middle of the joint, One in the middle of the Forearm, and the last one in the hand. Then youll want to draw and make every part stop at a line. The Should arm stops at the first line, the joint part stops at the second line and so on. Now you have halfed your arm and you can probably see it turning in space. Repeat it over and over and your arm will eventually turn in space until its practically facing you. You can use this technique to find a specific foreshortening angle you want for your work. If you move the lines closer to each other the arm will get shorter and more foreshortened, and depending on where the lines reside (closer to the hand or shoulder) you can find new posibilities. This also kind works with legs too if you want to give the illusion of a walking charecter (Half the thigh, Half the Joint, Half below the joint, and half the foot) This can technically work with bodies as a whole but its a bit odd

  • @mattparsons433
    @mattparsons433 Рік тому +1

    Whoa, that is a ‘left foot’ of some serious magnitude…

  • @borisp9163
    @borisp9163 Рік тому

    One thing about foreshortening and perspective, the closer object is, the bigger foreshortening is, or if hand is very close it will be huge, but the same pose from distance will be not distorted, almost not at all, so its not that one is correct and other not, it gives perspective how far object is
