I think one of the biggest mistakes I made when studying anatomy was not studying enough anatomy in pose ie I sat down with medical diagrams and books instead of studying people in poses and perspective. I learned where all the muscles were and how they attached but then wouldn’t always understand them in 3D space. It helped me as a 3D artist but it’s the main reason my 2D art skills always trailed behind my 3D skills. I feel like there’s a wide gulf between “knowing” anatomy and truly understanding it.

You can find armpits looking like the "wrong" one, the area between the back muscle and the triceps will change shape with the configuration of the arm, with the back muscle not going inside the armpit.

    Funny story:
I can't believe that I actually studied real anatomy and memorized the muscles with my own free will. I was a former medical student who didn't have a passion to become a doctor so I changed programs. I draw in my free time and took it very seriously lately. I hated my anatomy class because I don't see myself becoming a doctor but now I meticulously study anatomy for artistic purposes. What a twist of fate!
And thanks to my anatomy studies, I quickly understood what he meant and can follow through with the muscles he mentioned. So I recommend studying medical anatomy and looking at diagrams of skeletal muscles.

When it comes to drawing limbs one piece of advice I love is pairing straight and curved. For example, with the bicep one side is noticeably curved while the other side is comparatively straighter. Obviously some allowances for actual anatomy, but it helps create a more visually pleasing rhythm as the eyes moves across the limb.

registered last month and finally up to the first anatomy portion of the course and WOW. I have never found such clear and practical instruction on anatomy ANYWHERE. I've even tried proko's anatomy course and this one is not only cheaper (and offers way more other stuff) but imho much more in depth. I've been drawing for over 30 years and finally I've been able to start plugging in the missing pieces to my foundations and truly understand wtf I'm trying to draw so i can be more free form in perspective. So glad i hit up the sale, def worth it!

    Takeaway Notes:
    Mistake 1:
Draws gluteus' too wide and/or too round
    Mistake 2:
Ratio between size of hands and feet when the feet should be 1 and half the length of hand
    Mistake 3:
    Draw armpits wrong
    Mistake 4:
If you dont want to make your adult character look like children, make sure their head small enough relative to the body
    Mistake 5:
    Drawing sausage limbs
