I’ve learned more here than in high school and college combined
Same!
Forreal
@@ln7032 I would say just art but he puts life lessons in the mix too
Same
Same but not only for art. I went into IT college studying to be a developer (art school too expensive but I had to get college grades so I choose this) and when we had to stay at home during covid and work from home, I realized I learned more things on internet in 2 weeks, than in 2 years of going physically to college. This is really insane.
Now I work as a developer, but I still don't like this job and I study art on the side when my brain isn't too fucked up, I don't get much sleep so the spacing effect will maybe help me, thank you Marc
I absolutely, 1000% recommend the book called "Make it stick".
It goes in depth not only about the spacing effect, but also about retrieval practice, the generation effect, and many other incredible techniques for learning. It's an absolute must-read for anyone studying anything.
Thank you for suggesting this, I just started the book 2 days ago and im hoping to see resultss
Thanks
I don't read books much but if this helps then I better check it out
@@chrissameii4677 I'm listening to the audio book version of it
Wanted to ask , If we did the podoromo technique is that counted?
this will multiply my brain power by three times!
3x0 = 0 💀
that is insane😭
Psychology major here, this video is accurate. Learning in general requires time, your short-term memory can only hold so much information, the exact number is currently known to be 7 kinds of words, terms or ideas with a deviation of 2. You can use chunking and other tactics to allow for your short-term memory to hold more information, but it will eventually either disappear from your thoughts, or it will be encoded into your long-term memory through the spacing effect or REM sleep, which is the primary way we as human learns. Do keep in mind that everyone is different and outlier exists within statistics. Good luck learning!
Also a psych student and I agree!
Is this spacing effect have something to do with default mode network? Should you try actively think about what you just did or should you just stare in open air? Can this spacing effect be nullified by say notification or by switching between tasks? Can you please answer?
@@kolijoker For "chunking", the psych term for the spacing effect, it's good to take your mind off the topic at hand for a bit, then come back to it later because that's actually how chunking works. So no, switching tasks would not nullify it, information actually encodes better when you chunk like this. Also using the 3-day window is a good way to chunk information
@@kolijoker didnt see the reply so a little late. Doing absolutely nothing will indeed be better for the retaining of information after you have been studying for a while. You are still obtaining information if you are switching task, you must stop obtaining information entirely for the information that is already in your short term memory previously to have a chance at being encoded into long term memory.
@@erastal Thank you
Marc, we appreciate all the things that you show us every week; the discipline that you have is insane, keep going!
Exactly it’s inspiring
"If you don't sleep enough, you don't learn anything"
Dammit, Marc!
What is it with you and the all-precise shot at my current issue?!
I think that the most important part to learning is motivation and wanting to learn. Like I didnt learn anything in school, but I learned everything in this video because I was curious and i wanted to know and learn about it.
This is why it takes time to get good. Be patient with yourself. I'm a mix engineer and it took me multiple years to get to where I felt confident enough to put my stuff out there.
We can feel your passion for teaching, freaking love it!
That example with the painters’ styles and changing between the fast and the slow flashing of the images was one of the best visual examples I’ve seen in a ‘how-to’ video and even better than most college lectures I’ve attended. It demonstrates the experiment by making us go through nearly the exact same test and I immediately noticed the difference in recognition for each design when they slowed down. That moment definitely earned my like.
Can't lie that i'm here mostly to get entertained by Marc-sensei's explosive intros, but you're undeniably a big help in my digital art studying progress!
This is exactly why I am subbed to you, thank you for being curious enough to find such stuff that aren't directly related to the medium but are helpful to it. No wonder you are really good.
No sólo es mi profesor de dibujo, si no que también es mi teacher de ingles, ya que utilizo muchos tus vídeos para aprender el idioma, gracias señor Marc. Oh quickly, this class is started!!!
Lo mismo, sirve mucho para mejorar el listening
Jaja same! Aprendí muchos términos sobre arte que solo sabía en español .Aunque la frase en realidad es "the class is starting" xd
Nobody speak inca

I've been feeling like my learning process is sluggish and ineffective lately, so this video came at the perfect time ♡ Thanks for being such a great teacher, and giving amazing information for free, Marc!! I appreciate you so much, my art journey wouldn't be NEARLY as far along without ya!!
Thank you again for an amazing video - just realised how little sleep I’ve been getting lately and why it’s been so difficult to finish anything, art included!
this is 100% accurate i have been doing this without even noticing and found that no matter the subject material i can digest information and also retain it much better. thanks again for the wonderful and informative video Marc!
Hey Marc! Just wanted to say, thanks for all you do!
I've learned so much watching your videos! Thank you so much for doing what you do. Keep going, man!
Watching the technique while you draw while listening to your advice is my favorite learning method! Thanks so much so far, Marc!
Love how its always new knowledge to learn from Marc
That’s very interesting! Thanks for the epic class this week. Truth be told, I have been struggling with keeping with your class lately. I’ll try this out!
Thank you again marc, ive improved an insane amount over the last year thanks to you, the amount of time and effort you put into these is amazing.
Man I was just distracted by your line confidence, the drawings are so beautiful and clean
I was really struggling with my process, this vid was helpful afff
You are a motivation pill, thank you.
Thank you so much for always sharing your knowledge!
Thank you Marc for your continued work and efforts to share valuable information with everyone.
Thanks for making these videos. They are really inspiring and help me keep on track with drawing. I can tell my mindset when it comes to art both visual and music has changed for the better thanks to you and I appreciate that :)
Thanks, Mark. I knew about that before, but I didn't know what it is sooooo effectively. Thank you! I will be pause my learn and remember learned offten than did it early.
Thank God and you Marc for the artschool ans these videos. I Restarted the ArtSchool a two weeks ago and in my mind I remembered you talked about this just after I forgot in two days almost all my what I learned in the very first videos of term 1. I don't sleep well thes last months. now its the time to take notes.
Amazing video, thank you Marc!! Those drawings you did are gorgeous! I can’t express well how much I enjoy seeing you draw. It’s inspiring!
Yess a brain hack, my single brain cell will appreciate this a lot!! Thanks teach! Always love your classes so much. I'll be getting your art course soon!!
Marc always teach us and go all his way to teach us the right way. I've been learning so much and use ur free brushes and I must say : Marc is my favorite art teacher. he always got our backs ❤️❤️ I am forever in debt to you , Thank you 🥰❤️
I actually unintentionally used the spacing technique last night when I was doing some pen dexterity exercises, and I noticed when I went back to do more, my hand was noticably more steady than it was before and my lines were much smoother. So I'm glad I watched this video as it confirms my experience as not being imagined.
I also realize that I tend to take small unintentional breaks when I'm learning japanese and it's interesting how quickly I'll go from not recognizing a new kanji to basically being an expert at reading it.
I guess this means the breaks I take will be more intentional going forward. Thanks, Marc : )
Thank you sooooo much! I will try that! you are my favorite art teacher!☺💖
Love videos like this... I study how the brain works as well, but this is super helpful for me and helps everything click. I realized in this one that I do this with some things subconsciously.. I’ll give it a try deliberately while working on art and studying languages. Appreciate it! The other video like this I sent to my dad too, it’s golden information. Thanks! Best art teacher for me for sure. But also just a good teacher ha this applies to everything and I love it
thank you for putting this together, very interesting
That's pretty helpful advice. Thank you.
Really cool stuff, Mark. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for teaching me I learn a lot from art class I'll apply this knowledge everytime I learn something new ❤️🔥
I love your Videos, i've learned so much from you. Keep going!
I watched a video yesterday and can already see an improvement. No lie!🤝🏿 Thanks for you awesome work!🌸
Your art style is really unique, I really like it
Dude, I love you, thank you for the new knowledge!
Thank you so much!
Lucy from Edgerunners on thumbnail ❤️
Thx a lot for the help Marc
My first and only art teacher. Thank you very much 💯
I already learn super fast.. So this is great fr fr.. Thanks Marc, with 600 years of art, you have great art advice.. 😍
😭 I love this man's content too much
Fantastic Lucy!
Remember that time you drew hands for 12 hours straight? I'd be mad about that now. 😂 But this was excellent information. I do this by force because I rarely get to draw for long periods of time uninterrupted thanks to kids and pets. Haha
you enrichen my days of living, every second I listen to your wisdom, a little more
thank you so much for your help😊😊
Thank you Marc, I hope this will give us a bit of an advantage in times where AI generated art is flooding the internet!
Thank you these videos are very helpful. Can you make a video on how you filled in the color like that or how to color in general??
Fantastic information, thank you Marc 👌
Odd comment but I love how clickbaitey the thumbnail/title of you videos can be while being the most professional and constructive free art courses on youtube
great value tx❤
Awesome Information Mark, am gonna try this out 4Sure, Thanks for Sharing
Wow, this really is mind blowing!
This is an incredibly useful video!
Thank you very useful
slept badly last night, have a lot of stuff to do today, didn't feel like practising, but now I really want to try this out so I guess I will do some practice. thanks Marc
Videos like this are the reason why you are the best art teacher 🔥
Thanks marc now i going to do a recap of all of your videos about how to learn more faster to make the definitely recipie!!
Thank you, Explodo sensei
Marc isn't only knowleadgable in art, but also science!
Great video
I’ve been doing this for ages not just in my artwork but in school and other things. Sometimes in school it would feel like I’m getting behind due to all my break’s, but it turns out to be the opposite.
Works well!! DANKEEE
I always beat myself up over taking too many breaks while drawing, like I wasn't "focused" enough, but now I can get rid of that guilt. Yeah, science!
A couple of books you might find interesting.
-Make it stick: the science of successful learning
-Peak: secrets from the new science of expertise
The book make it stick covers the spacing effect and others such as interleaving and the generation effect. Peak was written by Anders Ericsson who was known as the expert on experts. His book covers different types of practice and what it takes to get to high levels of ability. Also the truth about the 10,000 hour myth is mentioned in it as well.
Awesome video BTW. Thanks
Hopefully this helps with my upcoming exam. Thanks 👍
I like every video bro thank you. Good price
Thanks, Marco
Awesome content
Thank you so much for the always detailed and insightful videos you make! Good to learn new things!^^
May I can ask if is it possible you will also upload the 10th Art school term on your cubebrush store later on? I unfortunately cannot afford to pay for the artschool in one payment, but still would love to learn from you more depthly and i thought I could buy all the terms one by one whenever I can afford it. (I'm from Europe so paying installments is not avaible for me here ..)
Thanks for the video! for the lucy too :D
First thank you for the lesson, 2nd I love you for drawing Lucy during the lesson. 😂❤️
I'm really loving these art hacks
Marc, when will you update your advanced brush set for CSP?
"we can sculpt everything when it's nice and soft"
*draws booty*
Well played sir, well played. 😂
Thanks
Marc... i couldnt pay attention to class due to the amazing Lucy art.... hopefully next week you draw Rebecca as well just as proof of concept ( i know short stacks are hard to draw).
The spaced repetition thing is pretty well known in language learning, though. A lot of Apps to learn languages will use a SRS and automatically space out vocab with the most optimal timing for you. WaniKani for learning Japanese for example does it fantastically well.
Love how everything relates to the gym...after 5 years of going I've learned alot on how muscle memory works and the art of breaking down and rebuilding. So I've applied the same thought process to my brain for learning art and other things...and it seems to work really well. Just like taking a break after a set helps recover and get re-energized for the next set to further damage the body for regrowth same idea applies to the brain. And this video seems to agree with that methodology. Gym bros are smart bros lol.
Hey Mark! Dont know if this is a correct place for suggesting things but i finally mastered default head poses (look exactly like yours ♡~♡) and now i'm really thirsty on learning how to draw extreme head angles! I'd LOVE to hear your ideas on that!
that shit is smart. thanks Marc
This lecture is actually life changing for me 😭
Hey Marc, can you make a video for freelance artist and about starting their own business?
the brain is so amazing. gonna cool down and think ab this video for a bit after seeing it
Cyberpunk edgerunners drawings? A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
So to improve faster you have to add processing times.
This is so logical and easy to understand, I'll use it right away.
*"Just turn your brain off."*
*Damn, I've been using this technique my whole life.*
"Whenever you're learning or studying, take short breaks for a few seconds at random intervals." I wonder if this has anything to do with how fast I usually learned in slightly slower-paced lectures as opposed to the more typical fast ones.
I have pretty severe ADHD, so I'd often get distracted or subconsciously go on different mental tangents at random times during long lectures or repetitive lessons - even while medicated. I wonder if those mini-distractions gave me the waking rest I needed to retain the information more easily than someone who never broke focus?
Yes! I've been doing this for many years. 😁🤩 Good to know, that I'm doing it right. 😇
Will try this today with gesture practice
The technique is quite beneficial when it works. It's quite hard for me, as even at rest my brain is still sprinting. New ideas, dialog and others thoughts popping up. Anyway, I love this class and I'm excitingly looking forward for next week's class.
This is so cool
I love it to much🧡
