Excellent point: It doesn’t say so anywhere but MS has managed to produce two versions of its Whiteboard app...surprise, surprise! The version within MS Teams is very limited!
Hi Frank, thanks for sharing this technique. I have been using ms whiteboard(local pc) for tutoring students as I could upload n number of pdf pages and infinite canvas. But I have encountered a problem, when I share my screen via google meet or any other platform, students cannot see the movement of mouse cursor. This is little frustrating because this problem is consistent when I tried to record lectures using OBS(even though I selected Capture Cursor). Moreover, the hovering and movement of cursor is seen(record or shared) when using "This PC", Paint, Control Panel and Sketchbook Pro. But it disappears when I open windows settings, ms whiteboard or desktop whatsapp. I tried searching this problem on internet but it seems that I haven't found any solution. FYI, I use XP pen tablet for tutoring. Please share your thoughts on this. What did you do to display your mouse cursor?
Let me take a look - I have an editing feature for my mouse, but that is post-production. When we share the Whiteboard, the user is represented by their Teams profile icon (picture or initials) - but that won't solve your issue. I'll see what I can do.
Hi Frank, first of all thank you for creating this video. Lets say I work for a sales support team and when we were office based we had an actual whiteboard. On the board there were key metrics like sales, profit etc. There was also memos like a new product guide that got pinned to the whiteboard. What I would like to achieve is in my Sales Support MS Team I want to add a permanent whiteboard that any member of the team can add to. I don't want the board limited to a meeting, it should be a constant tab in the MS Team. Is this possible?
Yes - it's possible. If you create and share the Whiteboard it is shared until you stop sharing it. So any invited team members can open their copy of whiteboard and access it, contribute, etc. The downside is that it is shared under the account that shared it. So, you "could" create a special account for that. Or, use your own. It requires a bit of management that way - but I just tested it and it worked well. I created a whiteboard, shared it, then had the other account connect. I then closed it on my computer, but the other account was still accessing it. When I re-opened it there was a very slight pause and BOOM! all the changes made by the other account showed.
All of this is very useful, however I am looking for a collaborative whiteboard which I would be able to use in a class I am teaching on MS Teams. I have been trying to find a whiteboard specific to channels (breakout rooms) of one Teams meeting. In a recent meeting the whole class ended up working on the same whiteboard, making it absolutely chaotic. How would I assign one whiteboard to one channel?
I'd like to use the one that incorporates Math manipulatives. How do I import virtual manipulatives such as provided by Toy Theater? Will Microsoft provide their own manipulatives soon? We need more than a ruler and handwriting to text. Signed, advocating for online students and cautious f2f kids who shouldn't have to share. Thank you!
It would be great to have better math functions. One solution would be to use Microsoft OneNote instead - it has a better math use case. I did a video that might help:Help your kids with math! - even if you forgot it ua-cam.com/video/c2kpuIOzEHg/v-deo.html You could share the OneNote App and demo it
My downloaded whiteboard doesn't always share easily. Its open and running but when i click on share in teams its not among the things i can share. It shares in zoom ok..
Hi Can I run the ppt presentation with all the animations n transitions on downloaded whiteboard? Also can I teach the children online with whiteboard? How to make the teams on downloaded whiteboard and how to invite them? Please tell
The scenario you describe can be done - but not with the Whiteboard. What you would use is Teams. In a Teams meeting, you can share PowerPoint with transitions. You can use Teams to share the Whiteboard and use that to teach. So Teams becomes the “classroom” and then you share PowerPoint and Whiteboard inside of that. I have a coupon videos on Teams that may help with that.
I'd like to get some clarification: downloaded whiteboard- uneditable by other members normal whiteboard- usable by other members? Lastly do you think that the downloaded version will be okay for presenting in a group of 35 people w/o significant lag?
Alexander Mai thank YOU Alexander - I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. I’m here to help - so let me know about any topics you need information on.
That is true - unfortunately, if you record the meetings I have also found the built-in Whiteboard does not get recorded (I did a video on that as well). I'm actually starting to use a web-based whiteboard these days - with more functionality than both the Application or the built-in. It's called HeyHi - and I did a video as well :) - I seem to have a lot of Whiteboard videos hahah!
@@rosalieaguilar4566 Oh - the iPad version is also somewhat limited. There are a few things it cannot do the same as the desktop version. It would be nice if it was a bit more powerful - but things like sharing documents from one App to another on an iPad are difficult.
Does anybody know if you can download the Microsoft Whiteboard onto a MacBook Pro? I contacted MS but they said I could not. I wanted to check incase I wasn't asking the right question! Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately not - but I did do a video on an alternate choice. However! Stay tuned! I have a VERY useful video coming out next week on an extremely cool option for you.
Haha - it’s like a lot of companies: there’s the “lite” version and the “full” version. There’s actually THREE versions - sort of. There’s web-based and OS based. So the one in Teams is (I believe) actually the web one. Don’t get me started on the Mac one...
Second video watched in a row. Thank you so much for the great content. Greetings from Brazil
Thank you for this very informative video. Watching from Philippines.
Thank you for this great video. May I ask how you manage the Picture in Picture? Is it a seperate software eg OBS?
Thank you for watching! For the Picture in Picture - that is my editing software. It allows me to capture my screen and video at the same time.

Can you share how did you get that cursor?
It’s a feature of the screen recording software

@@LearningandTechnology Thanks Frank for replying, I will give it a try.

You could assign a “group leader” for each channel/breakout room and have them share a whiteboard for their group.
Oh - another option is to use Padlet. I did a video on Padlet vs Whiteboard. The only thing is that Padlet has an associated expense.
I'd like to use the one that incorporates Math manipulatives. How do I import virtual manipulatives such as provided by Toy Theater? Will Microsoft provide their own manipulatives soon? That’s unusual. I haven’t had a case where it hasn’t shown up for me. Is it possible that it is minimized or something?

The lag issue is always a concern - just because if delay. However, in terms of presentation - I use the downloaded one with great success.
@@LearningandTechnology thank you. And awesome video
