    Always chuck a little plaster in there for good measure in big fights.
    You could also just use steel or titanium plates too.

    Having the roll upside down makes it harder to work with. It's also easier to go towards the outside of the hand, not towards the thumb .

    • @DoomRater
      @DoomRater 9 років тому +9

      Andy Robinson This is a fight wrap. It's meant for when you're about to fight. Hand wraps are quick and enough for sparring...

    • @arcticwolf8313
      @arcticwolf8313 9 років тому +5

      Andy Robinson Even for sparring or heavy bags you should use gauze and tape. If you don't want to waste that much time and money, combine pre-made wraps with a gauze knuckle pad, but don't put a limit in keeping your hands safe.

    • @3420boxer
      @3420boxer 6 років тому +2

      I agree with this comment; although you can also simply use "Bag Gloves" which are much heavier and not allowed in the ring (which is why they are deemed "bag gloves). But you can use 180" Mexican Style/Semi Elastic wraps and bag gloves without needing to gauze and tape your hands. Make sure that you properly and securely wrap your hands (wrist, fingers, thumb, knuckles, figure 8, etc.), and use bag gloves and you should be fine. When my fighters work the bag, unless we are one-on-one and I'm holding the bag for hard hitting drills, you are not really punching a brick wall. So again, properly wrapped hands and bag gloves should suffice.

    • @TylerRobertSmith123
      @TylerRobertSmith123 6 років тому +1

      I don't believe there is statistical evidence that shows using gauze/tape is better than simply using normal hand wraps on heavy bags and in fights. I believe it mostly falls on how well-padded your gloves are. Wrapping your hands mainly helps keep your thumb in place. However, there is something about getting your hands wrapped with gauze/tape that feels like you are getting reading for a real fight so in that sense I believe it helps mentally prepare your fighter.

    Hi Shane!
    I've been looking other videos because I just bought that Everlast hand wrap.
    And I found 2 major differences:
    1 - It's said that the wraps don't need to protect the knuckles because that's what the gloves are for.
    2 - They cover the palm many times over, specially because of the X pattern they use.
    My question is: Why they do that when is basically everything opposite to this method?

  • @AcVocaTail

    Whats the difference between this one and the normal handwraps i usually use,the one with the velcro on it

    • @davidm9121
      @davidm9121 5 років тому +1

      first thing is it's not a "wrap", common mistake using the wrong term. This is taping hands. What you mentioned using are wraps. Huge difference and those that are educated in the difference will use the proper term. And what you use with the velcro are less supportive, assuming someone is actually taping a hand properly

    • @arcticwolf8313
      @arcticwolf8313 8 років тому

      It's not impossible, BUT you will have to make a pad out of tape and you won't have a bar to grab onto so that you can go in between the knuckles. You can still stick your tape knuckle separators onto tape under your hand, but it won't be the same as having a gauze bar. I would very strongly recommend against using only tape, but it could be done.

      @ChucksSEADnDEAD 9 років тому +2

      They help keep the strike pad in place. If you just wrap across the knuckles it can move back and forth when you put on the gloves.

    • @JackToeRip
      @JackToeRip 8 років тому +1

      it's a bit lighter than cloth wraps which some people like. In my area it's cheaper to get gauze than cloth wraps which is a consideration for some people and it is one use. For ufc fighters gauze might fit a bit better in their smaller gloves because the top layer of gauze can smush just a bit. I personally use Cloth 180 wraps but if you prefer gauze that's fine. It also just comes down to preference sometimes

      .D3ACON RAYM0ND tuck your chin and when trainning think about keeping it that way so it becomes a second nature

    • @nicklatimer961
      @nicklatimer961 9 років тому

      Put a golf ball or ping pong ball under your chin when you're shadow boxing to get into the habit of keeping your chin tucked, I used to have the same problem.

    Can u do a vid about pulling hair in a fight?

    • @spongekupo
      @spongekupo 9 років тому +1

      Koleon Chrek he already did. The vid isnt exclusively about hair pulling but basically the idea is to get closer to the attacker, dont try to pull your head away.

    Knowing how to do this correctly is super important. Fucking up your hand and putting you out of training sucks. So make sure to do it right people.

    Why is it illegal to wrap knuckles?

    • @nicklatimer961
      @nicklatimer961 9 років тому

      It's illegal with tape because it's too hard, Shane said

  • @davidm9121
    @davidm9121 5 років тому

    Common style, though this isn't wrapping, this is taping hands. Wraps are the cloth rolls and are illegal. Those with an athletic training/sports background know the difference and wouldn't make the mistake of calling this a wrap. Even though it's the common term everywhere. Spread the knowledge and avoid the confusion for others. This technique could make some improvements but it's what you'll commonly see at events.

    why we shouldn't wrap the palm?

    • @1957346

      alexdriftersupraman so you can close your hand into a fist

    • @davidm9121
      @davidm9121 5 років тому

      @@1957346 that's not the reason at all, if you can't make a fist then there is an issue with who is taping your hands.

    • @davidm9121
      @davidm9121 5 років тому

      No reason, you're fine to include the palm but for MMA it limits the ability to grab and improve control

    In my area of the UK ive seen many pro boxers get hands wrap, we do quite a few less layers than that
