    I had a cutting that I had growing in water which was doing ok and decided to pot it and first mistake was putting it in a much larger pot and lost about 50% of it to root rot. Quickly pulled it out and back in water. And just recently repotted into much smaller pot after getting it back to a healthy state. Doing well now and it’s gifting me with a growth spurt in the last 1.5 months! Love this plant which was from a much older (20+ yo) monstera which sadly I didn’t get to keep so I’m making sure this one will be mine for the next 20 🥰 and oh I’ve also managed to have 2 smaller cuttings from this monstera and doing well too in a small pot although no fenestration just yet but I don’t mind since it’s doing quite well! I appreciate the education into caring for monstera and other plants! ☺️

    Reg thrips; I recently saw Plants with Krystal using diatomaceous earth to treat her infested plants. I’m giving that I try today, as I’ve been battling a massive thrips infestation for over 6 months now. by the time I figured out what was going on (and that thrips even existed) almost every plant I own was infested. I think I’m slowly winning the war (a few plants have been lost), but it’s been exhausting.

      I also went through several pests infestations with thrips being the worst for the past few months. It’s definitely morale killer. Diatomaceous earth was way too slow and not aggressive enough for me, I was out for revenge. 0.5% Spinosad did the trick in 2 applications, particularly because I have several plants in pon! Good luck, don’t lose hope/enthusiasm.

      Generally no. You cant graft monocots.
      There is an article called "Monocotyledonous plants graft at the embryonic root-shoot interface". So there is evidence that you can technically but you wouldn't be able to graft it in the same simple way you would an apple tree or something.

    Hey Lee,
    I have been wondering for a while:
    If you have monstera/Aroids in mineral mix (lava, zeolith, pumice), does a plank or a birch pole work as well?
    Because mineral poles just get too heavy and too complicated if you need to stack them in my experience.
    I would be really glad to hear your opinion, since i am thinking about skipping my one monstera variegata back to aroid mix instead of the self watering mineral mix because of the pole problem.
    Thank you for your channel 💚

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  10 місяців тому +2

      If you do put a plank in I would probably take the time to coat it with some kind of sealant. I get 2-3 years in soil before rot unsealed. So I assume in something like LECA or pon it would be much sooner.

  • @ion599
    @ion599 7 місяців тому +1

    I think your statement on pot size is not entirely accurate. Monstera deliciosa will grow fine in arbitrarily large sized containers and they aren't particularly picky about soil either. The bigger issue is that people aren't providing them enough light. They need 12+ hours of very bright conditions. A small window facing anything but south is not going to provide enough light. The issues people have with too large pots might be better solved with a grow light running 24 hours a day over their plant. If you are going to spend 20 dollars on new soil and a pot, you might as well get a grow light and skip all the repotting work.

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  7 місяців тому

      Yes, I've made this statement in my "why ppl keep killing their Monstera" video.

    I had to get rid of all the leaves of my large monstera due to thrips. I tried replacing all the soil and soaking the full plant in the bath to get rid of them. I’ve used various techniques such as homemade neem oil solutions, pesticides, cleaning the leaves every day and nothing worked. It got to the point where my plant looked so bad and I was fed up of trying to get rid of the thrips. So I chopped off all the leaves and just had a pot of sticks. It’s been a couple of months and I’ve got a full pot again but the thrips are still just as bad and I’m at a loss on what to do. They are on every leaf. The damage isn’t too bad at the moment so I want them gone before it gets worse. This monstera is my biggest and oldest plant so I don’t want to just get rid of it but I don’t know what else I can do. Is there something else I can try to get rid of the thrips infestation?

    Good to know that moss poles are to be avoided.
    With my plants at the office, a gnat infestation went crazy in no time. Wrapping in plastic and using spray didn’t work, or not completely, soapy smell was obnoxious.
