I have a 10' tall monstera in great health but the bottom 3' of vine is bare. If I chop it and propagate the sections, will anything grow fgrom the bare stem sections even if they have no leaves? Also, will anything grow from the stump left in the pot as it will have no leaves either?

The mother single vine stump will be left in a 18" terracotta pot with a nice big rootball or Should I trim the roots and pot it down or would you leave it?

I bought a medium-sized (70 cm) Monstera about a year ago, after a week I changed the pot to a slightly bigger one and I water it about once every 10 days and place it right in front a well-lit window. a year later it took half of my relatively large bedroom and grew up to about 3 meters in height and occupied 6 two-meter large moss poles. one night it flipped itself on me while I was sleeping and took advantage of my unaware presence, it was too heavy for its pot so I changed the pot to an 80cm* 50cm larger pot and balanced the upper leaves by hooks to the ceiling. now it stopped its rampage and grows 5 to 6 leaves every 2 weeks thus focusing on its roots, guess changing the pot wasn't too bad for my safety since the plant is happy and I'm not getting groped by a drooling pervert of a plant while I'm sleeping.
Blimey what a monstera! 6 leaves every 2 weeks? Unheard of around these parts. Do you have tons of natural light?

i need to clarify that this monstera consists of 4 distinct plants and I bought it from our culture lab at the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NIGEB) in Iran so it may have some modification in gibberellin 3beta-hydroxylase gene's promoter but as far as I know, looks like a regular one and yes direct sun light and 20liter of agar enriched water every 10 days @@SheffieldMadePlants

Not too long ago I bought a Monstera.I have been watching it and wondering why it didn't look right so today I decided to take it out of the pot and examine the roots. What I thought was one plant turned out to be seven plants !I potted them all up in their own pots and now I have quite the collection.Thanks again for another entertaining and informative video.

It's very big now so I knew repotting it would be a pain in the butt, so I decided to wait.
It's still growing like crazy, and you just gave me the perfect -excuse- reason to wait with the repotting 😂

I've had to move mine further back from the window, it's become enormous.So much so, that visitors couldn't see the telly. Was going to repot, but think I'll just dress the top of the soil.

I put my largest monstera in the biggest pot I can find. Filled the pot with pine bark. I push all the aerial roots into the pot. It sits next to a window and puts out giant leafs. I had to chop all the leafs but the last one because this monstrosity was blocking the window. I don't worry about being with one leaf. It's big enough to keep the plant going. I am waiting for the last aerial root to root into the soil so I chop the top of the plant off and restart it over again. I am looking for weird design where the monstera is going to be suspended in the air by aerial roots and no stem. It's going to look like real monster.
I have a monstera that sits outdoors on a warm, Sicilian patio. I keep it in the shade because in Sicily the sun is so strong you could actually find the pot melted down. So it gets light, but obviously I don't let it get sun burned. I still find brown tips although it gets fertilized regularly. I was getting ready to repot, into a larger pot but then I read your comment. I am now thinking of leaving it in the same size pot but this time I want to fill the pot with perlite and orchid bark. Sgould I add some soil or is the perlite and the bark enough?
@sallomonaco I live in Maryland and I found for my environment the best mix is pine bark and peat moss. It's mostly bark but peat moss is important because it fills the gaps between the bark pieces and retains moisture while staying fluffy. If I use only bark It's going to get really dry when it's dry. I don't think you need perlite if you already have bark. My mix is mostly bark and peat moss and very little soil. Some fertilizer like worm droppings or slow release fertilizer help but I also water with general purpose liquid fertilizer (about 2 tea spoons per gallon of water.) Summer in my area is very humid. I need chunky mix so my plants don't rot. Also in winter when plants are not growing much they may rot because they don't drink much water. So, again I need chunky mix so they don't rot. I don't know what your humidity levels are like but if your mix dry out fast you may have to stick to using some good old soil in your mix together wit the bark so you retain some moisture. Peat moss does retain moisture but if it dries out it needs very good soaking because it becomes water resistant. Another good medium is baked clay balls. I don't think you need clay balls for a large monstera but when mine was small and manageable it was in clay balls for some time. For some plants I use mix of clay balls and soil mix. For Haworthia or similar plants that may rot when it rains a lot I just use clay balls almost entirely. When I repot I just shake of the soil from the roots without trying to take off all of it or break off any roots and plant the Haworthia in the larger pot with clay balls. Some plants I even grow in spaghetti strainer or basket for even better drainage. I also use red volcanic rocks ot bottom of pots to prevent clogging of the drainage holes or put mulch on the bottom of the pot for the same reason. I did buy perlite before but I found it completely unnecessary so I don't buy it anymore. I like spagnum moss but I use it on smaller plants especially when propagating or trying to air layer. It can get expensive if I use it on large pots. On the question should you use bark I can say it may be beneficial but how much really depends on the climate in your area. If you climate is very wet like mine more bark is good. If it's dry a little less. In my case it's about 70 percent bark and 30 percent Miracle-Gro(which has a lot of peat moss in it already so I don't have to mix peat moss with soil because it can get messy if you don't do it outside in your yard. I am sorry the answer was so long but the short one wouldn't do. I hope it is helpful 🙂

I love my Monsteras, they're super low maintenance but my cat has learned that she can get my attention by clawing at the leaves (she never chews them so I'm not worried about that) so the nicest leaves don't last very long lol.

I live in Australia, the sun can be very harsh here at times and I see some Monsteras here in full sun thriving, but those are probably quite used to it.

yes it’s true. i have 2 monstera, monstera king i put in larger pot and still stuck 3 leaves, but my deliciosa i put into smaller pot than king now already have 6 leaves

this is what my mom always told me, but I like big pots. So I'll wait a good while until the roots fully takeover its massive pot
A tip for a good compromise. :) Just have your monstera in a smaller pot, and put the smaller pot inside a bigger one. Also makes it easier to move around once it is time for a re-pot.

My monstera only gave me one new leaf in the past year. He's not growing any new roots either. I just downsized the pot, mixed in some orchid bark to the soil because it was way too dense and moved it into the sun porch. We'll see what happens!

Your recommendation for more light has helped my 2 year old monstera, i swaped out a medium Sansi bulb fpr the biggest one and she's putting out leaves with holes now! Cant wait for summer to see how many holes i can get

My monstera of nearly 8 years wasn’t pushing any new leaves and the leaves were turning yellow. I cut her roots to half and gave it new soil. Did some pruning as well. Fingers crossed I didn’t kill it 😅

Gonna let you know before it’s too late, moss pole plants shouldn’t be potted in your average soil mix. At the rate moss poles dry out, the soil will always stay wet due to you always watering the moss pole. The roots will grow in the moss pole and you need to keep the moss pole moist or else the roots in the moss will die. All this watering will lead to the soil mix staying wet while the pole dries out. What I do is create a very chunky mix. 1 part large perlite, 1 part bark, 2/3 part coco chips. The coco chips and bark are the only things retaining water which means the soil will drain freely so you can water the moss pole without worrying about the soil getting too wet. I hope this makes sense. It was difficult to word.

I spray mine daily with water aswell and maybe once every 2 weeks or when soil is dry I water it properly in the shower to get them drenched. They all seem to he doing lovely. Other than my coconut plant 1 of leaves is dying but other leafs looking great. Love you're channel man im new to all this 1 year in

Haha my Monstera has been right by my sw facing window all of 2023 and only in the very hottest days have the leaves shown any burns. I look at mine from the back 😆, it blazed by my neighbours Monstera that's way older and stands about 1,5 meters from her sw facing window. It hasn't been growing neatly against the bamboo that supports it, so I use rope on 2 points. It is still in pure soil, beginner mistake. Will check if replacing it for aroid mix will enough for now or if it needs a bigger pot after about a year in this one

I just made my monstera lose it's only big and fenestrated leaf, it's all yellow and black now. Because it the soil seemed very dry and the leaves were drooping. Ironically as the big leaf died, the rest of the plant kept aggressively pushing small new leaves. And it's still drooping and a couple of older small leaves also browned. It's a truly enigmatic schrödinger's monstera who doesn't know what it wants. Ironically the monstera is also getting whole 500 lux of daylight for like 12 hours a day now that winter has quickly passed, no longer darkness. I know it's not +10 000 lux that people say plants want from "real daylight", well that's not what we have to offer here. I think the monstera has been pretty happy living in its spot, just not filling the room with growth.
Anyway nice to have tips, even though I won't be following them, I guess I just wanted to share the fascinating lives of my children and their oddities.

I've not tried. I'd wonder how you'd keep the leca moist. It doesn't stay wet for long

My Monstera (her name is Mona) still puts out lots of leaves but the older she gets they're just getting smaller and smaller, and many of the new leaves don't have any fenestrations. How can I help her to produce nice big holey leaves again?

@@bassekaman8315 I don't think it could be that as my flat is south-facing with floor to ceiling windows and it gets good light the entire day (as much as is possible for the UK anyway lol)
How near is it to the window? How are the roots looking?
@@SheffieldMadePlants about 2 metres from the window where she gets good light. She used to be right next to it but was getting a bit crispy so I moved her a bit further away. Her roots look fine I think! I repotted her about 6 months ago because of this small leaf issue to see if that would help but it hasn't :(

I have 11 monstera plants some in water and the rest in soil, 9 small and 2 bigger ones that are starting to give me fenestrations but it will be a long time before they are anything like Mr Sheffields plant 😢
