Minor correction: Glacial Lance was indeed nerfed from 130 -> 120 BP, but Astral Barrage was already 120 BP in Gen 8. The move didn't get changed at all in Gen 9.
Actually, I think Protean was reworked not because of Cinderace and Greninja abusing it, but because it called too much with the terastallize gimmick. Cinderace and Greninja weren't exactly overwhelming in VGC's meta in previous games.
Cinderace was one of the most used mons in Series 5 VGC back in gen 8, it was even banned in Series 6 VGC (the format that banned the top 10 most used mons in the singles and doubles ladder) it did get a LOT less usage starting in Series 7 or 8 tho
Its actually still decent believe it or not. By no means is it at the near-banworthy level it was in gen 7, but it is basically greninja's only niche in gen 9, as the boosts can make it tough to deal with in rain
I'd add GSC Snorlax for likely changing how EV's worked from Gen2 to Gen3. GSC Snorlax is up there with Gen1 Mewtwo, Mega Rayquaza, gen8 Zachian and gen 9 Calyrex-Shadow. It warped both GSC OU AND UBERS around it. In gens 1 and 2 you could max out all of your stats stat experience (aka in later gens), so stuff was bulkier that it would be in later gens. One-shotting something wasnt very common due to this, and GSC Snorlax was a nigh-unkillable tank. As you know this was changed to a total of 510 (508 really as 2 EV's does nothing), so you could only max out two stats. They also had DV's instead of IV's, but they were very similar aside from controlling several other things and only went from 0-15 instead of 0-31. They also controlled: 1. If a Pokemon was shiny or not 2. The Pokemon's gender, if it wasn't a gender-locked species. 3. Hidden Power type and power 4. Unknown's form a. fun fact, the only two legitimately obtainable shiny Unknown were the letters I and V Likely due to hardware limitations due to how pressed for space GSC was.
Neutralizing Gas and Order-Up weren't "nerfed" perse. Those were proggraming errors by GF's developers, they weren't meant to have those interactions (Not ignoring Paradox's Abilities and Buffing even when protected against, respectively)
I swear, I've slipped into a parallel reality. Because I could have sworn Pixilate/Aerilate/ect were originally 33% boost that got nerfed to 25%. Like I can seriously remember looking this up multiple times, and yet suddenly that's no longer the case.
I love how game freak says “yeah these pokemon are breaking our game, let’s make their moves have 5-10 less base power” as if that’s gonna fix anything😭
In singles, Prankster Riolu was also ruining lives with its Copycat + Entry Hazard strategy where it would keep priority Roaring every turn until your opponent lost all 6 Pokemon. Prankster is generally responsible for a lot of disgusting strategies. Para + Swagger + Foulplay is one of the most disgusting teams where I have seen people just run Pokemon with these moves to sweep teams. I am so glad most of these got nerved. Also I feel a lot of moves that can be spammed in weather got nerfed like Fire Blast (Sun), Flamethrower (Sun), Blizzard (double target in Hail/Snow), Thunder (Rain), Hurricane (Rain), Surf (Rain), Hydropump (Rain). And guess Thunderbolt and Ice Beam were a bit too powerful for generic spamable moves with secondary effects. On the other hand Focus Blast which never hits remains 120 base power. All Overheat like moves got nerfed to 130 from 140, except Deoxys signature move. Probably because for the amount of damage you make, the downsides are not high enough. I think Burn got nerved because halving stats with the high amount of damage per turn, especially with a spamable move like Scald, made it too much for the formats.
Both videos are great. However, I’m surprised you missed out on Hydreigon being the straw that broke the dragon-dominated meta game’s back causing the introduction of the Fairy type a generation later. DragMag in general was extremely dominant but I feel like Hydreigon being insane in gen 5 was a call to arms for the Fairy types introduction.
Order up wasnt really nerfed, increasing a stat even when hitting protect was a glitch, never intended. Glitches shouldnt count for this kind of lists, they werent balancing the competitive, they were fixing a programming error, same happened with neutralizing gas
Neutralizing gas actualy are a bug, they forgot to progaming this abilliyies by mistake. Wolfey vgc abused this in a tournament and Gamefreak said tgat this was actually a bug and fixed it!
A link to the previous video shows up in the top right corner of the video during that part, and on mobile, there's a link at the bottom of the description. They're both easy to miss though, so I can see how you didn't notice them.
I think it's worth mentioning that Zoroark is likely the reason that team preview exists
It is

Oops, my mistake!
I love when normalize makes my notmal moves normal type

Today I learned that Battle Bond still exists and has been reworked instead of removed
rip ash greninja
Its actually still decent believe it or not. By no means is it at the near-banworthy level it was in gen 7, but it is basically greninja's only niche in gen 9, as the boosts can make it tough to deal with in rain
@@jmcbango yea but like half of the reason why we use battle bond is ash greninja.
@@jmcbango wild
I'm Sylveon's biggest soldier but pre nerf Pixilate was definitely a bigger issue on Mega Gardevoir
Xerneas was removed because of geomancy power herb
ash greninja was removed because ash was
That actually makes a lot of sense.
So this confirms that there is and never will be someone capable to have a friendship with their Pokemon as strong as Ash?
@@nicolasromani3523what’s crazy is that pikachu been w him for decades and greninja within 1 region had a stronger bond w him.

No. I would bet a million dollars your wrong
It was changed because Gen 3 was a soft reboot of Pokémon’s mechanic
Dondozo's Order Up was glitchy. So it's a bug fix, instead of an actual nerf. Still a nerf, nonetheless.
Neutralizing Gas and Order-Up weren't "nerfed" perse. Those were proggraming errors by GF's developers, they weren't meant to have those interactions (Not ignoring Paradox's Abilities and Buffing even when protected against, respectively)

At the Xerneas section I laughed out loud
Really enjoying binging your videos, but godamn you were teasing talking about sets, i would love to see more mathmatical analysis in pokemon❤
I love how game freak says “yeah these pokemon are breaking our game, let’s make their moves have 5-10 less base power” as if that’s gonna fix anything😭
Talon Flames's gale wings got nerf because of he's part of big 6
i loved dive cats ~

Wasn't that only possible in Showdown, not the game itself?
@@jaschabull2365 it was possible in the game. I recall seeing a youtube video demonstrating it.

Astral Barrage was always 120 BP. Glacial Lance was 10 BP higher for some reason. And Grassy Glide released in Teal Mask, not Indigo Disk
Look how they massacred ma boi Greninja 🥲
