A very important mention that wasn't mentioned. The move psychic noise prevents the target from using all healing moves as well as preventing hp recovery. So if you hit a target with a psychic noise as they were trying to bitter blade, the target would not be able to use bitter blade, as if you had taunted a status move.
Not gonna lie I don't like this functionality. I feel like just turning of the recovery effects of damaging moves is more than enough for them, when most are at or below 75 BP, and the few that aren't are signature moves
it's actually the Heal Block status effect that does this, and Psychic Noise is just one of two moves that applies this status effect, the other being Heal Block
This is more for bell than for you, but step can also mean dance in English... Quickstep is a type of ballroom dancing... dubstep is a type of party music made for dancing... There's dance moves like the box step, the feather step, lock step, time step...
Things of note for semi-invulnerable moves earthquake hits mons using dig but it also does double damage to them and surf hits mons using dive for double damage
I know you left it out because it is massive, but I really think Contact moves deserve a brief mention since its separate from physical, not well explained, and interacts with a lot of abilities. If just a "contact moves are a thing but its too big of a category to include."
Clangorous soul, as a dance move, is likely based on the Haka, which is a style of hawaiian dance typically used for competition and/or warfare, and is the namesake of Hakamo-o.
Not a category but I do just adore the move Draining Kiss because it restores 75% of the damage dealt instead of 50%. I think that's a really interesting variance on the move.
Related to two turn moves, there are also recharge moves. Currently no abilitiy or item interactions - i can see an item like Power Herb but for this in future gens Another odd category is Wish, Future Sight and Doom Desire - moves that only use one turn but have an impact later. Too small of a group to include.
iirc Sheer Cold has a slightly lower accuracy when used by non-ice types (like 20% or smth), and the game says Sheer Cold has higher accuracy when used by ice types but it's just back to 30% like other ohko moves
Something to mention is that population bomb isn’t actually random 4 - 10 times, how it actually works is that it has 90% accuracy and keeps hitting up to ten times until it misses
Some things that you forgot to mention: Heal Pulse, when used by a Pokémon with Mega Launcher, will heal the target by 75% of their HP instead of 50% HP. Mountain Gale _doesn't_ interact with Wind Power and Wind Rider, despite its Japanese name translating to "Iceberg Wind." This is because you're attacking with giant ice chunks and not the wind itself.
And twister, and hurricane. I think some others too... I remember wishing to use a skydrop and thunder/hurricane strat in doubles once, but it was just bad xD
Even if Rain Dance did count as a dancing move it would never matter since it doesn’t do anything if there already is rain, so I guess its not a big deal lol, though it is interesting that the name difference is the reason.
@@ProjetoXHunter would it? does using rain dance in the rain deactivate the rain? i think the move just fails, doesnt it? in any case, while this is all true for oricorio's ability, there could be a dance-based ability in the future that interacts with them and then it'll be interesting to see if rain dance is made to count or not. like, imagine a pokemon that gets priority on dancing moves. priority rain dance would be kinda huge, and bring that move back as a way to set rain quickly and reliably without having to solely rely on drizzle
A question about trapping moves: how do they interact with tera? Like if they use sand tomb on you, you get trapped, then following turn you tera into a flying type, can you escape on the turn after you tera? Or tera to a ghost type in general. Similarly, if they use leech seed on you, and THEN you become a grass type, does the leech seed disappear?
As far as i'm concerned, tera just instantly gives all the qualities of the type, so grass teras become immune to powder moves, and ghost teras should be able to switch out no matter if they were already trapped.
Sound is really my fave, tho it's already in the first vid. Going through subs is a really unique property. If they ever add Thick Fog back, I hope Sound is unaffected by the Accuracy nerf, since you're basically just screaming in the opponent's general direction.
5:36 While this is technically true, it doesn't mean much since GameFreak have been very careful making sure a pokemon who can have No Guard doesn’t get access to an OHKO move
machamp could get fissure + no guard in gen1, however afaik a machamp that knows fissure is forced to have its hidden ability if transferred to a gen 8 or 9 game@@CrimpyPlate
TrueGreen7 made a Pokemon that has 196 attack and 9 speed, which would be very fun in trick room. It also has access to No Guard + Guillotine. Imagine if they made No Guard not work on OHKO moves.
Chloroblast is no an explosion move. It does not interact with the ability damp, it simply causes the user to lose half its health after use. Magnet pull, shadow tag, and arena trap are all abilities that trap, not moves.
Didn't know that Big Root had those extra interactions. I always was unsure of what moves bar Bind and Wrap that Binding Band, and Grip Claw interacted with.
I would add accuracy weather dependent moves. Hurricane, bleakwind storm, thunder, blizzard, I dont know if landorus and thundurus feature moves also work this way, maybe.
Ok im confused with population bomb combined with loaded dice. If you’re saying it will have one accuracy check, why would it hit from 4 to 10 if this move is set to hit 10 times unless a miss (which wouldn’t happen as long as it hits the first one according to what you said). Can somebody explain, please?
i think rain dance being "rain prayer" could still count as a dancing move, because i think rain prayers typically involve doing some sort of dancing ritual in so many cultures across the world. but at the same time, it really doesnt need to count, because there's really no point in oricorio copying rain dance immediately after it was used lol, it would change basically nothing about the battle. i guess any future dancing related ability will have to reconcile with it later, but for oricorio's ability, it really doesnt matter also unrelated but it's kinda surprising that there's actually so few recoil moves when you list them out like that. i couldve sworn there were dozens and dozens of recoil moves but you know, i guess not lol. never really thought about that
Actually pretty sure population bomb does t inteact with wjther skill link or loaded dice. It hits 1 to ten times and it just has a 10% chance to miss in each whoch is why wide lens makes it so you always hit 10
