Great tutorial, I feel you could make an entire series catered to beginners since this game has gotten such an advanced meta. Your instructions are very clear and unpatronizing, overall great vid 🙏
Your demoman guide really helped when I started playing a lot of demo, and as as soon as I decided I want to start playing soldier you post this. Very helpful!
thanks so much for this. this guide actualy layes the foundation of your future skills and not some pillars that have a hard time carrying everything above it often not being able to carry anything above advanced skills. after 4 years of playing tf2 i just realized that i never pick my fights, and just killed that what needs to be killed. it often worked, but only applied medium pressure and medium damage. maybe one of the main reason why i got a liking of engineer and medic. also never realized that soldier is a generalist. thats a helpfull guideline.
You know a video is excellent when it makes me want to immediately go to my computer and open TF2. Great video, it was very entertaining and the constant clips in the background really supplemented it well. I have a feeling your viewership is gonna blow up in a week or two thanks to this video. Definitely subscribed.
Amazing guide as always. I got into your channel because of the roamer guides you made for competitive TF2 just about a year back. You help people like me a lot with roamer and just Soldier in general with these kinds of videos keep up the good work brother 🙏
In my eyes this is a downside but people are citing it as an upside in the comments of my quick fix video... in any case the quick fix is awful compared to its competitors.
former roamer now generalist main here, loved this video, it covers so much of what you need to know in such a short timespan in comparison to other guides that just ramble on about other stuff for 2 hours and only covers the relevant stuff needed rather than anything for the class, such as immediately pointing out different weapons on their lack of power for roamer while i do enjoy using the more weaker weapons mentioned nowadays, such as the mentioned liberty launcher, this guide was definitely a great watch for me and should help get some rust shook off with a few more rewatches with more attention paid to it, overall, love the video man, keep up the good work:)
The quick-fix doesn't necessarily "suck" it's just a different medi-gun used differently to all the other medi-guns. It's built for quickly replenishing the health of many people and not for overhealing specific players consistently.
It's also a lifesaver when your team is getting heavily damaged, can't protect you long enough to build uber, or the enemy team is good at stuffing uber pushes. You trade that 8 sec invincibility for faster healing, +10% ubercharge rate, and still get a super-heal rate uber on top of that. It makes a huge difference if you know when to use it, because what good is having a stock uber if you can't keep the team alive?
Roamers are my friend with the quick fix. When I’m between fights and need to get around, rocket jumping is free mobility and also free uber. Paired with my overdose, I can get in and out of risky situations and keep more people topped up.
I have played Solly for 1.5k hours, and you verbalized many things that I've learned to do along the way subconsciously, and I have learned some pretty useful stuff too Great video my friend!
I love the quick fix, I don’t like to pocket anyone unless absolutely necessary, I find more success as a medic when I can quickly hop between teammates during a push and keep them topped up rather than taking time to overheal someone. I love roaming soldiers because the quick fix’s mobility makes it easy to keep up with them and I often use them as quick transportation if I need to get to my team or a health pack faster. Also, if I keep switching heal targets rapidly, it’s harder for snipers to predict where I’m going to be or who I’ll prioritize. At least that’s what I tell myself anyway lol
It’s hard to put into words how much I love this video. The editing and style was soooo good, please keep making videos with your editing style. This will easily become a huge channel one day
Very informative video. I don't see this type of a video in the tf2 sphere often but it is very useful and I don't doubt it will improve my soldier gameplay. Keep up the good work.
When I watched your demo video I immediately got so much better at playing him, to the point where I was top scoring consistently. I usually always play support soldier so I'm looking forward to trying out a roamer playstyle. Great guide dude!
subconsciously I've always tended to play like roamer soldier, but struggled in many situations due to lack of experience. this video sure helped me recognize and avoid my mistakes. thanks!
Med Main here -- Love this type of video. Pushes soldiers (both opposing and allied) to get better, which pushes us all to get better. The road to mastery is the most enjoyable part of this game. GJ broccoli.
Ive been wanting to see a concise guide to Soldier for a long time!!! This video is really good! I lean more to a Pocket soldier gameplay wise. But Ive been really needing to learn how to be a better roamer. It looks so much fun
Great vid! Shoutout to all casual roamers, with one request from a Medic main - IF I KRITZ YOU PLEASE DON’T ROCKET JUMP AWAY FROM ME! Yes, in certain situations, you might need to rocket jump to hit a group of enemy gamers from a better angle. But if we’re not in that situation, if we’re piercing the enemy lines to do maximum fraggage, I pop, you shoot two rockets and all of a sudden you jump away from me… not only have we wasted most of a Kritz, your team’s medic is now deep with no pocket. (I’ve already taken a chance by kritzing a soldier, with slow rate of fire and small clip, instead of a heavy or a demo.) I usually die and it dissuades me from kritzing you again!
As a Soldier main, seeing a fully fledged informative guide for Soldier is really nice, especially how there aren't that many video guides for the class nowadays. You've earned my sub.
This is a high quality video, subbed. I have many years in the game but if I didn't this would've been an excellent and comprehensive introduction to Solly. Thanks!
Super good vid, I’ve been playing for almost 10 years and I recently had a crisis thinking “am I actually good at the game??” (The answer is no) But guides like these are super helpful for solidifying fundamentals
Great video, I pop into the comments to just say that the liberty launcher works well with the Panic Attack and the Reserve shooter for more a more combo oriented playstyle while thanks to the damage penalty not doing as much damage while rocket jumping, I think for the future if you want fotage of the liberty launcher you should try those playstyles even if it ain't exactly the roamer playstyle.
As someone who has never had a main and just kinda played what the team needed, this video actually helped me learn from some mistakes in my mindset I learned really early on. Great video man!
nice video! i hate playing against pyro. so i decided to play pyro. it's absurd how much i could get away with playing pyro. made me much more aware of what i had to pay attention to when fighting them. it's always good to play other classes to understand them. now i am more proactive against pyro flanks and playing in their blindspots to avoid airblasts.
also, as a pyro main: if you're gonna fight a pyro don't hold down the fire button. you would not BELIEVE the amount of over-confident soldiers i've fought who die to a point-blank reflect because i know what the rocket launcher's firerate is.
Great vid, it will help me a lot! Also glad I could make it into your background footage, even if it was you dropping me lol. That Pier game was very fun
(3:15) if you hold right click with the rocket launcher out after you use all rockets you dont switch to your meele, that can also be used to stop the auto reload on all weapons if you have it on
I wish this video was out when I was learning the game, the 6s meta is pretty hard to pick up on and a video like this wouldve helped a lot, at least better than muselk lmao
This guide is well made, I'll give you that. The respectable Gunboats are phenomenal, an essential to roaming. But I am incapable of unequiping the shotgun.
Actually one banner that suits roamer pretty well is conch. The hp regen allows you to hang back when you need health and it's faster charge makes getting banners much faster
I like! I will now become better at my main mission - reaching at least 3rd place in killscore! Second goal is to find cure, or effectively reduce depressione!
As a med main, I’ll always try to hand out buffs, but crit heals are very, very appreciated since casual means my job gets really busy, really fast. As for the Vaccinator, don’t worry, there’s a reason I’ve names mine One Bad Day. If I’m running around with that bad boy out, there are bigger concerns than a slow overheal. (Or I’m just absolutely fed up with a sniper)
As someone with almost 5,000 hours on Medic, do NOT make a habit of what you see at 10:03. Utilizing the situational awareness you need as roamer to determine WHEN to be a pack goblins is important as well. Not only that, but look around at your medic when they’re healing you. If you’re the only person near them, for the love of everything holy, DON’T jump away. I’ve died so many times because roamers will just… abandon me. I’ve wasted ubers as well; if roaming would be a detriment to your medic, please don’t. 17:29 isn’t always an object permanence issue. Almost every time, it’s someone thinking “Ah there’s plenty of other players, someone else will handle that” or “I’ve got X hours on Soldier, I don’t need to stay behind and waste my time on a scout/engi/whatever behind us”. Do NOT think like that, it’s TEAM fortress 2. Even when you’re playing flank and making picks, it’s to help your team. Don’t let problems you can handle quickly snowball out of control. Kill someone behind your lines, swap to engi for 6 seconds to upgrade a tele, go medic to arrow someone waiting at a health kit or retreating to spawn, *do for your team, always.*
I know you didn't want to talk about the Liberty Launcher, but honestly I recommend giving it a shot with the Gunboats and Market Gardener. You're essnetially playing like a Rocket Jumper trolldier but you do still have the option to just harass people with your rocket launcher. Is it as good as Soldier's other primaries? Not entirely, but it's still fun to be that extremely mobile annoying mosquito.
Great vid, wish you would've tried Liberty Launcher as it is nice on roaming because it is functionally a worse version of Gunboats x Stock launcher, cause -25% dmg and -25% blast dmg meaning -56% dmg on rocket jumps. The good thing for that loadout compared to stuck is that you get to keep shotgun. Dare you to try it! Have a great day :^)
The issue with ammo capacity can be helped if you use the shotgun instead. Sometimes, I find myself jumping little on certain maps, so I switch to shotgun just to get that little extra damage which makes a big difference on my survivability.
I've developed scaredy cat playstyle pretty naturally playing demoknight, as you cant really win in 99% of encounters. From here I started playing Soldier and had much easier time with the power of ~running away~

In defense of the quick-fix, rocket jumping also brings the medic with you.
In my eyes this is a downside but people are citing it as an upside in the comments of my quick fix video... in any case the quick fix is awful compared to its competitors.
