    Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Valve. It consists of nine classes, Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy, and two teams, Red and Blu. • @moatrix
    @moatrix 21 день тому +26

    I feel like pyro against soldiers is similar to how trickstabbing for spy is a matter of how creative you can be.
    There are already well defined ways to reflect, just like there are well defined trickstabs, e.g. waiting for the shoot interval. This works on 80% of soldiers once, and it works less and less the more times it succeeded.
    Once the soldier becomes aware of the pyro's "trick", the pyro can become a bit more creative:
    - Some soldiers tend to have very specific "extra" wait time before they shoot, pyros can abuse this
    - If the soldier has a different teammate nearby, the pyro can pretend to focus on them while listening to the soldier's shots and turn around when he's about to shoot for the second time
    - If the soldier really doesn't want to shoot rockets, the pyro can throw him off by rushing into him with flames and some secondary, and then abuse the shoot interval
    - Reserve shooter is a really good punishing tool against soldiers who rocket jump away from danger
    - Bait 4 rockets around the corner and then rush to the soldier
    - Airblasting soldiers (and anyone, really) into the air can really mess up the aim of someone (useful against shotgun users)
    - Changing hats mid-game can unironically work
    - and so on
    It's one of two favourite match-ups, it's always fun to find ways to punish good soldiers.
    Cheers,
    1200+ hour pyro main

  • @xhq82395
    @xhq82395 21 день тому +22

    Pyro main here (though Soldier's one of my most played too). I LOVE the mind games that pop up with an experienced soldier at close range - it's a game of chicken where the only way out is to hard read the opponent. You give a really great and in-depth analysis, but I think the one thing you didn't emphasize enough is that baiting one airblast doesn't mean a pyro's completely screwed. You can usually get one or maybe two shots off if you're really close, but once airblast is off cooldown the game resets. In a clip like 12:44, a good Pyro still could've reflected that second rocket, so if you know your enemy's good at staying calm under that kind of pressure, don't let up just because you got one hit off. I see too many Soldier players doing that. One of the meanest tricks you can do is firing just a little bit slower than cooldown, but not so slowly that they can start reacting rather than predicting - I've got several hundred hours on Pyro and still don't hit those that consistently.
    Also, surprised you didn't bring up the Beggar's. It's still possible to get plenty of reflects off on a Beggar's soldier, even though the firerate's a little faster on spam, but a burst fire is too fast to reflect more than one.

      I think reflecting 2 beggar's rockets at once is possible, since airblast hitbox is so long. One rocket a bit behind the pyro, and another rocket is right on the front edge of airblast. If pyro angles the hitbox to the side, and soldier is firing from slight elevation, that should be doable.

    Against Engineer, I find that if he is using the Wrangler or just capable of effectively tanking his sentry in general, that it's a good idea to instead aim any rockets at him and/or his Dispenser rather than the Sentry. Catching the Engineer with enough splash or directs will simply kill him and make taking down his Sentry easier, while aiming for his Dispenser will either: 1) Divide his attention between maintaining his Sentry and his Dispenser if he's far away from his Dispenser. 2) Remove his constant metal resupply if he's near his Dispenser. 3) Will also damage the Engineer if he's right next to his Dispenser. 4) At the very least it removes a source of health and ammo for his team and you get to feel good about the coveted Dispenser Pick.

      @@Schtoples "There's no difficulty playing Soldier beyond learning to rocket jump."
      I literally wrote it for you the first time.
      You don't need rocket jumping DURING a fight. Only to get to or away from a fight.
      FIGHTING classes as Soldier is easy : spam rockets at feet. That's it.
      The "difficulty" of Soldier is getting into the position to be able to spam rockets.
      And that is done with rocket jumping. A "skill" even someone like me manage to hone in barely an afternoon with rocket jump servers.
      So it REALLY isn't as hard of a skill to master as people pretend.
      Soldier is almost-skill-void overpowered class, made for people that wanna pretend they're good at the game but can't manage to learn any of the other 8 classes that ACTUALLY have some weaknesses to overcome.

      Actually yes, it is. Team-stacking Soldiers is a strategy that works 99.99% of time.
      There's a reason why 6s teams have TWO Soldiers at all time and them being the most game-defining class of Competitive (Arguably more than Medic. Arguably.)
      "“LMB is skill” Heavy exists."
      Heavy need situationnal awareness to not die to Snipers and Spies, and the tracking required to consistantly land shot do require regular training.

      HAH, the not-at-all biased take of a Soldier main who think their opinion is a fact.
      Soldier has :
      - Tank-level of hp
      - Absurdly immense, easy-to-learn, low-cost mobility (said cost can even be reduced further)
      - High consistant damage with VERY forgiving splash damage basically eliminating the need for precise aiming
      - Unlocks that boost his survivability by an enormous amount... as if he needed it.

    I watched this video since i have roughly 250 hours played on Soldier alone and he is by far my favourite class is any game let alone just TF2 and i must say the advice given here is absolutely solid, Soldier is the definition of a class that is easy to pickup but hard to master.

    As a god tier gunspy myself (stock revolver enjoyer), I rarely go for fights against soldiers unless they're somewhere below like 140 health or I'm at such a range that the soldier cannot do anything about me peppering them for 21 repeatedly. 150+ health is just a very hard threshold for spy to hit when he can get 2-3 shot. So a good gunspy will avoid fighting in this disadvantage unless they're sure they'll get away with it, so take note of that and be careful if they are engaging during these times. There might be a trap waiting for you of some sort if you bomb.
    I would say Soldier and Scout are probably gunspy's 2 hardest matchups, so if you've got the health for it, bait out a dead ringer and then give chase to wherever you think they'll reposition and just outdamage them. You might be at critical health but the spy should be absolutely dead as long as you very aggressively push into them post DR decloak, similar to fighting a demoman really.
    Now of course, if the spy is positioned well enough, a few revolver shots might be enough to ruin your momentum when bombing, so try to stay out of the sightline when trying this until the last possible moment. I apply this knowledge when fighting good gunspies (rare) while I play soldier and it gives very good results. Pop the DR, chase, finish them off if possible

    Funny how many people point out that soldier has a low skill floor and then either put aside or completely ignore the rocket jumping aspect which is among the highest skill ceiling things in this game by far. Soldier also has the most skill intensive subclass in trolldier. There are soldiers who can't fight well at all but can bust out a t6 jump map with impressive speed. Conversely there are soldiers who probably couldn't even do a t3 jump map and go godlike in pubs. Combining these two aspects of the class make his skill ceiling unbelievably high.

    • @spellbrand477
      @spellbrand477 14 днів тому

      No one in their right mind rocket jump 6 times in a row, you only see that in jumping servers cuz you don’t lose health there. At best you’ll see 3-4 times by competitive players, because they’re already well aware of the map structure and have a route to health packs. You don’t wanna be like LazyPurple, lmao.

    as a spy main I 100% agree that soldier is a good counter to spy.
    And unlike pyro he actually feels fair to die to. (90%of the time)
    Also deadlyness of a spy (imo) isn't really about how good him or the enemy team is but moreso about how good is his team compared to the other team.
    You can have good by casual standards team but if they're fighting froyotech even a 10 hour spy can get the job done.

    ...as a "sentient" engineer player, I don't use wrangler because it's ass to play against. Instead I prefer SC as it allows me to 1v1 soldiers and demos with some consistency even when I don't have a turret. Also great for protecting turret and teammates, and for catching spies, and for obscuring head hitbox a bit as a (copious) defence against a sniper.
    Oh and there's a jumping tech with it but it's niche.

    • @TJ-hg6op
      @TJ-hg6op 21 день тому +8

      I kinda disagree. Soldier can counter every class, depending on the game and skill of the enemies. (Strong pyros can easily counter soldiers). Also, soldier has probably one of the lowest skill floors in the game, as rockets are easily understandable and fairly easy to hit for beginner players (Soldier is one of my lower played classes, but I can still do very well at it lol). Though I agree his skill ceiling is very high, like all the other classes.
